Fluval FX6 Canister Filter: amzn.to/3OLJEaH
Hey RotterTubeReef I finished quarantining my fish, waited about 10 weeks and then reintroduced the fish. Now 2 weeks has passed and no ich. I want to thank you because my fish are not dead, so greatful.
AWESOME JOB!!! You need to QT any new fish before putting them in. Also, this is the reason I always use dry rock, never buy live rock.
I have zero experience with canister filters on salt tanks. I did see a few of these videos and thought they could offer some insight.
Do it I’ve been thinking about doing it
Hi. Man! hope all is well. Im thiniking about using a canister as a utilitarian tool to clean sump, pumps, etc.
still got my Ibanez RG550! Playing soon again!
that's a great idea. I did that with a mini canister filter long ago. I just got rid of my RG550 anniversary edition. maybe a mistake, but needed to clear some out. I need to play more.
I actually have real world experience with running the fx6 on a 150. It's how I got into the hobby. It works just fine. Did it for two years. I never did solve the nitrate problem but I was pretty much a novice back then . I use vodka for nitrates now. IMO the biggest con for the fx6 was that I would have to open it up every month to clean it and it was pretty messy project every time. It just got old after a while. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Everything is a trade offing this hobby. ALWAYS ENJOY YOUR VIDS!
Thanks! Yes, that would be the downside....the draining and opening and cleaning. I did it in about 30 minutes...not bad....but I don't have to do it now, so I'm thinking about it.
Would love to see what you do with this …. Wish i had a sump always thinking of trying to add one
My only question is would the overflow from one side be enough water to feed the flow rate without pulling in Air to the canister of the fx6?
This is a great question. I would think that if enough water was always present in the tank...I top off daily.....then it would be fine.
I run an fx6 on my 90 gallon reef tank. I simply placed the inlet tube into my overflow and monitored it by closing my vavle until it all balanced out. Dont really even know it's there.
Where does it return into the tank? Wait, so you have water pulling from your overflow chamber into the fx6? And then how do you have it going back into your tank?
@ROTTERtube runs back into tank in right corner as my chamber is on the left
You don’t have to do plumbing. The outlet couplet are 1 inch so you need a 1 inch bar to connect with current plumbing. You need a good silicone tube add everything.
I got the good silicone tubing. Thanks for commenting! A one inch barb? Use the silicone to go to the canister filter and ditch the canister filter tubing? It's cheap ass plastic tubing.
Canister filters are a Pain in the F--in Ass to clean....i wouldnt even bother hooking that up to your aquarium you dont need it
yeah thought of that. they are a pain in the ass.
