    So your biggest complaints are as follows:
    - More tire width than advertised
    - Too much bulge running a 305 tire on a 10.5" rim (when the manufacturer ideally recommends 11")
    - The sidewalls are too "busy"?
    - Cleaning the tires when they're dirty is a pain in the ass
    I can't help but be blunt; these are pretty poor excuses.
    Getting an almost 315 profile with greater contact patch area in a 305 (provided you're following the manufacturers 'recommended' wheel sizes) is a huge plus for anyone concerned with traction. Another thing great about those ultimately concerned with traction, "busy" sidewalls and the fact that vehicles need to be washed doesn't usually bother them.
    I can't speak for everyone obviously, but when I'm researching performance tires I'm generally looking at three things: level of grip, treadwear and responsiveness. Sidewall art and how difficult cleaning will be shouldn't even be crossing your mind if performance is what you're really after; anything else is nitpicking.

      The 305 35-20 has been used by a ton of guys running a 10 and a half inch wide wheel. Call it nitpicking, hell call it whatever you want. But the fact is that the Nitto 555r and the Mickey Thompson fit the ten and a half inch wheel better. In the same size. Of 305 35 20. I think I even said that this tire would do very well on an 11 inch wide wheel. Many Challenger owners don't run 11 inch wide wheels because of interference problems with the inner fender. And this video is targeting specifically Challenger owners. Again, with the very customary 10.5 in wheel. As far as Aesthetics go, that's subjective. As far as grip goes they are not quite as good as the old pattern 555r, or the ET Street SS however it is better in the rain. Look at the rest of my videos on this tire and you will have a more well-rounded idea of my opinion on them. It's not all gloom and doom. They actually handle well, all things considered. They handle the rain and wet weather very well, best of the bunch. Back toaesthetics, , as a consumer, I have every right to be as nitpicky as I want. To me the tire looks far too busy, I like the more plain clean look of the older tri-five and the ET Street SS.

    Thanks B for the walk around and review. I'm in the same boat and would probably have to tuck in my fender well a little more, not a huge deal. Looking forward to the 6 month review!

    I went with the G2 in a 20/315..great from a roll but not so much from a stop. Overall good for the street, just dont plan on hooking much better than the stock Pirrellis. So, yes, a good replacement for stock but not much on performance increase. Looking forward to getting a set of 555r's or nt05's.

    I noticed the same thing on the width. I believe they're 12.32 width. I put the 305s on my car yesterday coming down from a 315. These seem to be no narrower visibly I want it comes to the bulge. That was the first thing I noticed. On paper from nittos website they are almost identical to a 315. I was hoping for them not to be quite as wide as my other tires.

    One thing I will add, the old school 555r were known to run narrow, essentially Nitto has made these truer to size like the parent company Toyo. I need a set of 305/35/18s and these were one of the few options in that size

    I agree, that tire's sidewall is busier than a NASCAR car body, and the tread is weird looking with the giant channel gaps, but kind of cool at the same time. I don't have much of a street-only tire choice since I'm running 18x11 Demon wheels on my Charger and want to keep the overall diameter the same (305/45-18). But yeah, think 100-tread wear rating and better wet-weather characteristics and it makes the ugly sidewall look a little better, lol.

    Nitto is supposed to come out with a 295/35R20 tire in the 3rd quarter if that helps anyone considering this tire. The depth of the grooves were probably an attempt to make a tire that lasts longer.

    • @bmasontv
      @bmasontv  4 роки тому +1

      That size could be an issue in terms of height.

    • @hu3.789
      @hu3.789 4 роки тому

      It didn't say in terms of height. All the Nitto website said is that it would be released in the 3rd quarter. Since the 285s are 11.4 inches wide and the 305s are 12.3 inches wide, the 285s should be about halfway in between. Doing the math, there should be less than 1/2" difference in height between the between the 295s and 305s.

      My pattern tests of this tire would like to disagree with your statement. At any less than 24 psi they were cupping fairly significantly. At roughly 28 PSI, the pattern was more flattened out. I ran them at 28 PSI at the drag strip and they dead hooked, track-prepped was also very good.

      Yep, they look like shit when compared with the MT ET street SS, also don't pattern test as well on the more popular 10.5 inch wheel (wouldn't consider mounting them on a 9.5 stock HC) So, they don't perform as well, (not good for a go fast tire) are less attractive (important if asthetics are important) and the only party trick is they work well in the wet.... Well, considering the outgoing 555R was clean looking, fit the wheel better, didn't add to clearance issues and frankly, performed better, I have a lot to whine about. Add to that the fact that I had run the outgoing tri-five drag radial on literally every car that I had owned for years and years... based on my experience, my takeaway is the new Nitto 555r2 is nothing more than a summer Tire with less tread depth and slightly softer compound. Mickey Thompson will be getting my money moving forward. Which is a shame, because I've spent thousands of dollars on Nitto 555r over the years and would happily buy them again if they were released
