    I think your experience of nittos lasting longer but MT hooking better is universal. I had the same experience years ago. I have Nitto nt555g2 on my car on 17” cobra Rs. But when I get tire of driving on ice I’ll get a set of those new drag wheels from LMR and some drag radials. Which one depends how strong my parts are at the time haha

    Good video👍 One very important thing I’ve learned when choosing drag tires is to look at weight; a drag radial is significantly heavier then a bias ply slick, especially when you start talking rotating mass. So if your making less power a lighter tire is going to benefit you more when it comes to actual racing. There’s always a trade off so you have to decide what you want more, streetability or the most out of the power you have.

    A good budget road race or low profile tire for the street is the Achilles 123S. I’m very happy with them. They are a summer tire but still are decent in rain. And dry they grip like crazy!!

      Were talking about real tires man no offense. A normal street tire is nowhere near a toyo r888r or any of the drag radials. When you get up into higher power levels no street tire is going to cut it its just the way it is. You can't even hit it in the first 3 gears with street tires at 500-700+ rwhp.

    I’ve had them all. Best tire ….hands down…..is Mickey Thompson. Wet roads…..you’re screwed….don’t drive it at all. Nitto suck all the way around for most foxbodys unless you have massive suspension upgrades. I have a QA1 level 3 suspension on my cobra. Full road coarse car…..and the Nitos will work but not the best. It’s all about your suspension set up. Don’t buy a tire based on the tire itself. If it’s mostly stock….then go with Hankook, Toyo or Nito.
    Surprisingly, if you have great suspension upgrades….the Hankook Ventus is freaking awesome. All the way around. Freaking grip monster.

    exactly what you said , not all setups are the same , my 91 lx loves L 60 hoosier super dirt bozz on the street and 28x9 good year slicks on the track and skinnies up front on 15x3 1/2 weld wheels , my lx blows up m/t drag radials both on street and track all tests done with 4 10 gears ...started 3ith 308 moved to 373 then when i started using the 28x9 i moved to the 410 ..and yes i hit nitrous off the line ...since 1992 ive tested every single tire out there known to the fox body world and only the combo i mentioned earlier work for my car ...late 90,s i won the 5 liter shootout with over 400 competitors that weekend

    M/T et street SS for the street still blows them off but a stable street tire. I can start in 2nd gear and they will hook ok. M/T radial R for the track. 275/50/15 for both sets. I have the suspension for it though Team Z front and back with strange front coil overs and rear shocks. If you straight hook it’s hard on the drivetrain like you said I broke the weld on my driveshaft shifting into 2nd it sounded like a damn bomb went off in the car. the u-joint and pinion yoke were still attached to the rear end.

    If you have a car that is driven daily in rain and wet surfaces I've had very good luck with nitto drag radials never had traction problems under normal driving conditions on wet surfaces with them of course any tire in wet conditions will spin or slide if driving the car hard the nitto is a good in between tire with decent dry drag race traction and safe for daily driving Mickey Thompson ET street R l agree are better for drag racing and work well on the street if it's dry but l can tell you the Mickey Thompson ET street R are not good on wet roads or in the rain you have to be very cautious even if roads are very slightly wet if you have Mickey Thompson ET street R on your car and the roads are wet it's best to keep the car in the garage unless the idea of sliding around is your idea of fun it's not mine

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 3 роки тому +1

      It isnt really the wet that gets you its puddles if it's raining just hard enough to create puddles that is what will send you sideways if you're not going slow enough. I've drove 305 et street r tires on the street in my gt500 a bunch and I've been caught in the rain several times...it is scary if you go too fast you just gotta slow down alot more than normal and stay off the throttle but from what I've seen the wet in general wasn't too bad if you take it easy but if it starts raining a little harder and hard enough to make puddles that is when you really gotta watch out because they don't have a tread pattern to dispurse the water outward so hydroplanong is enviable. If it's just wet but isn't raining hard enough to create puddles it isnt nearly as bad. My fiesta st which is my daily was in the shop getting fixed from hitting a deer and I ended up having to daily gt500 from October to the middle of December in southwest va and I keep the et street r tires on it all the time because normally it isnt my daily...didn't have to deal with any snow luckily but did see rain a few times. I dont recommend them if your car is a full time daily the nitto would be better for that but if its not a daily and you never drive in the rain (unless you get caught out in it driving in it is doable just gotta be real cautious) then def recommend the et street r even if its mostly a street car like mine. Its awesome being able to hit it hard on 1st or 2nd gear on the street and get traction even with 550 rwhp and 4.10 gears. Car used to blow the tires off all the way up into 3rd gear on 275 nitto street tires...its insane. Too many people try to get by running shit tires on a high hp car because they're afraid of having to replace their tires more often big deal gotta pay to play. No use spending all that money on mods if you can't even use the power lol.

      I don't recommend street tires if you're over like 400 wheel especially with a lightweight fox. If you actually wanna use and feel the power on the street that is. I don't understand the guys who build 700-800 whp cars and roll around on 20 inch street tires lol.

      Track prep will probably not help if your not traction limited. I had a full bolt on catfish camaro SS. That thing on dry rotted stock tires was putting down a 1.9 60ft. Replaced with almost new Michelin pilot sports and I highly doubt it would cut much lower than 1.9 60ft although it did help on the street on slick roads.

      I got 305/45/17 et street r tires on mine same power level with 4.10 gears it hooks killer even in 1st on a warm day even down to 40-50 degrees it was still hooking really good in 2nd. You could probably get decent traction with a Toyo r888r or the new nitto drag radials that is out but it won't match the et streets I just got the radial because mine is 99% street lol. I will do most of my hits and spirited driving on the street where I am at so that was a factor. It isnt my daily so I really ain't concerned with life I should get 5k+ out of em which will have me replacing em once a year prob. Gotta pay to play. If you actually wanna feel the power you have in your car I would suggest no less than toyo r888r or nitto drag radials. They aren't gonna bite like the et street r though which is amazing and even down to 40 degrees or under it isnt bad at all I've driven them in rain and its doable but I don't recommend it lol...gotta go 20 mph below the speed limit and stay off the throttle but its doable. Mine isn't a daily so I don't give a shit I want my car to hook and that it does. Every person has to assess their situation and decide how far they wanna go. Go as far as you're able to based on your situation because you can't ever have enough traction lol.

I since switched my rears from 17x10.5 to 15x10 and they hook even better and ride better too because of the taller sidewall. I have 295/55 et street ss atm they didn't have the r in stock anywhere last time I got tires. These are more street friendly but don't hook as well. I'm now running a gen3r at 750+ rwhp so I have a set of 325/50 et street r at my house as we speak going on this spring. Goal is to hook 2nd with 4.10 at my power level I think it'll do it the 275 et street r I had before hooked killer but I was only at 550 rwhp then. These 325 are gonna hook man!! Haha
