I hope this is as insane as the originals. Elona was an inspiration for CoQ, and it still managed to outweird it (pickpocketing gods, finding turds that weight 16 tons that become doomsday weapons when thrown, the infamous tourist filter that is the infinite pregnancy cycle.)
It is. I ate a bunch of mushrooms the game said were "edible". I proceeded to hallucinate for the next 20 minutes and wander around in a daze. Then a monster that looked like a bunny boy in a bikini(because hallucinating) fucking killed me
a lot of the weird things in elona were just translating mistakes or i should say horny localizers doing what they pleased the pregnancy is actually parasite infection for example therefore infinite unless cured
Wow I never thought I would see this series again. For me ELONA will always stand out as one of those defining rpgs that no one has ever heard of. Oh the days of training my defense against a slime until it inadvertantly became an unstoppable killing machine because it had also been leveling up the whole time. Or waiting to see another adventurer had died in a dungeon then racing to find the dungeon and the body inside to loot all of their gear. They also had ELONA Shooter which is what originally lead me to the game. Thanks for finding this game, I'm super excited to check it out!

As much as you said this game is weird as hell (and morbid too), it gets weirder. IT ALWAYS GETS WEIRDER. One example? The panties (who are most often sold in vending machines) not only are a weapon, it returns to you (like boomerang), deals mind damage (so yeah panties makes enemies go insane) but are also an INSTRUMENT which means you can use music skill to PLAY ON PANTIES.
One fun mechanic about the game is exchanging favor for tickets. Those tickets let you "legally" take items from towns. It can literally be a chest with stuff in inside
I sold a bunch of old tickets for a decent amount through the shipping chest. Not sure if that was the best idea. Bought a letter of recommendation to the Mage Academy with the funds. Can't wait to see what happens.

Something I learned from playing Elona that new players probably won't know - if you want to cast magic, you need to read spellbooks in order to get charges of the spell. Failing to read spellbooks can do a number of nasty things, including draining your mana, randomly teleporting you , and summoning a bunch of high-level monsters to kill you. So, never try to read spellbooks unless you have the Literacy skill, and you are on the edge of a map that you don't care about.

To anyone that thinks this looks interesting. The previous game Elona is a bit difficult to deal with, but the modded version Elona+ is still going strong and is a good game. Its better translated and less buggy. The randomness of it all could be annoying but you learn to work with it. Save scumming is your friend. You can do pretty much anything in that game, its amazing.

Why is it every single time Splat cautions against the graphics of a game, I've just clicked the thumbnail thinking "Oooh I like the graphics!". I guess I like an artform to have varieties of style instead of slavish adherence to photorealism.
Elin is the most beautiful roguelike I've ever seen. I think Splat just assumes pixel art is always going to be a turnoff for a certain number of people, but I agree he sold the visuals short big time

Elona was a headtrip. Like Nethack, Ultima Online, and an early era JRPG had a baby and that baby had a huge list of insane RNG things that would just happen and totally change everything - yes, it did have some big multiplayer mechanics. You could go into other people's houses and the game rated how cool your house was against theirs. You may have to run Elona on Compatibility Mode but it still works, or at least it did for me. Elin has a similar ranking system but I don't know if you can visit other people's land yet. There was Elona, Elona Shooter, Elona+, and now Elin, all in the same world, all illustrate a really strong design philosophy of creating wild moments. Elin in the base difficulty is super forgiving. The higher difficulties allow for loss on death or permadeath. Right now on base difficulty you lose nothing for the first 90 game days, then after that you lose some skill advancement progress. Similar to Rimworld your skills have little flame icons that show how talented you are and how fast you can raise them if you use them, determined by your choices at character creation (race, class). I think your NPC minions have similar things determined by their race, job, and hobby, so you'll see them gaining skill levels in the log as they do things. It seems like in the late game you can get a whole army to run your farm, ranch, manufacturing facilities, retail shop, and other types of things, so you can bankroll fulltime adventuring. And if you advance your land you get raided by bigger monsters so there is actually a mechanic to de-advance your land to lower the threat level. Once it's out of EA there is an aim to have tons of mods and wikis and stuff out there so Elin might have a really wild scene
Elona gave me so much play time and it was such a fun enjoyable thing to me that even though I am not feeling Elin as much as I did Elona I still had to give the guy my 20 bucks to thank him for literally 4 digits of hours of playtime and a "Roguelike" that is more of a long haul experience.

Absolutely love this game. I played Elon back when it was barely translated and was so sad when the original dev stopped working on it. Elona+ kept it alive and then I heard about this project on the Elona discord. I dropped as much as I could on the kickstarter and have absolutely loved the alpha and am excited to see it continue to grow.

The fact It was a little girl was irrelevant as you could just as well breed the puppy pet. It was mainly a question to see if the sequel lost its edge.
Can bash the graphics, but remember this and the game it was based off of are primarily roguelikes. Elona, the 2D version, was and still is absolutely beautiful compared to any roguelike that didn't come from a AAA studio since. Elin is that game with a new perspective and prettier graphics and more systems. Inspiration wise, Stardew Valley comparisons are not warranted. Elona came out over 15 years ago. Anyways, I am absolutely overjoyed to see this game brought back with new polish and cannot wait to get lost in it again.

I never in my life thought I'd see Elona mentioned on Splattercats channel. Back when I was looking for free PC games Elona came up and I got sucked into a strange, insane roguelike world. It disappeared from my life for many years but I redownloaded it. Might have to leave it behind and just wait for this new game.
If it's anything like Elona, and 100 times that with Elona+, it also gets super sweaty and meta gamy, there's hundreds of hours for you if you're into that
I think the game looks great aesthetically speaking, sound is old school too, in fact this graphically reminds of a lot of games from way back in the day, ya know those ancidnt times right after dos systems floppy disk going to diskjet and we achieved our first dial up, all while fending off prehistoric dinosaurs and saber tooth wildcats

OH I love this. I remember hearing that the original dev had issues with their publishers using the Elona name for one of their titles calling it Elona 2 despite the dev saying that they didn't want that so they ended up doing the true Elona 2 with Elin.
@@MarkDeSade100 I think the little girls are a reference to Little Sisters from Bioshock. If you eat them you get a buff called "ADAM" that gives you a large bonus to your base stats' exp gain. You also run into Big Daddies every so often as well.

I loved Elona+, the insane power levels you could get to are like something out of a Xianxia game. Definitely checking this one out.

I had a sudden Ultima Online nostalgia mood hit me when I watched this. I think the inventory was the culprit, coupled with the isometric view.

Yes you can. You can also devour the little girl's corpse to get her ADAM and gain a big buff to your base stats.

If it's anything like Elona, and 100 times that with Elona+, it also gets super sweaty and meta gamy, there's hundreds of hours for you if you're into that

I already loved Elona+. Hell, I'll admit I enjoyed the mobile game for a while.
This game is that CRACK once you get passed the learning curve.
I think the game looks great aesthetically speaking, sound is old school too, in fact this graphically reminds of a lot of games from way back in the day, ya know those ancidnt times right after dos systems floppy disk going to diskjet and we achieved our first dial up, all while fending off prehistoric dinosaurs and saber tooth wildcats

My initial impression is that it resembles Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead with isometric graphics.
OH I love this. I remember hearing that the original dev had issues with their publishers using the Elona name for one of their titles calling it Elona 2 despite the dev saying that they didn't want that so they ended up doing the true Elona 2 with Elin.
It's not the publishers but a Chinese (of course) dev team that got permission to make Elona Mobile but not the rights to Elona 2 but did it anyway.

@@MarkDeSade100 I think the little girls are a reference to Little Sisters from Bioshock. If you eat them you get a buff called "ADAM" that gives you a large bonus to your base stats' exp gain. You also run into Big Daddies every so often as well.
