Never argue with the wife. Just say 'yes dear, you are right', ask for a brew and then do what you were going to do anyway ... Worked for me and I was only married twice .. 🤣🤣
If you're in the market for a Discovery 4, then this is the video to watch. Christian and Vera give such good insight into what to look for in a used vehicle from interior accessories, reading fault codes, mechanical inspection and much more. This video (and all the others) is brilliant! I'm going to be looking at a couple of D4s this week and I will have my eyes wide open with my list of things to look out for.
Love it guys! Your channel is why I bought my my disco 4 about two years ago. She's a 2012 XS with a lot of extras had 117k miles now 126k. So far apart from servicing gearbox and general servicing, it's cost me for replacing the inlet manifolds which both cracked one hot day on Exmoor last summer. She came with a full Landrover service history and two prior female owners. From looking through the computer, she had done 26m in ice and snow settings before I bought her in total and zero miles in any other setting, so I knew she'd never been offroad. Well, she definately has now! We use her as a camper, with an inflatable mattress and all rear seats folded down, we put our luggage on the front seats and it is very comfortable. I look forward to Sundays and seing how to use all the tools I have had to buy to keep my Mall Crawler road and mud ready! To me, your channel is like a video version of the Haynes manual, with jokes and commentary - so thanks for all the useful information and laughter and long may you continue to inform and entertain the rest of us D3/4/Queen - addicts.
One thing is for sure: there will never be a shortage of Land Rovers for these two hilarious people to argue over .. I mean fix for us to enjoy on YT ... 👍👍
So true!!! In the UK they’re impossible to insure as they’re too easy to steal. Even Land Rover won’t insure them. People buying brand new vehicles and having to sell at huge losses.
@@brianbickle7395 Yup - my insurance was £800 last year and £1,400 this year - though the AdBlue (Euro-6) version has a much lower road tax than the earlier versions without AdBlue - so that saves a few hundred.
Thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning, watching you both and the lovely energy between you two. Great that Vera is onboard with your projects. I think she will have more knowledge about Land Rovers than many LD owners!! 👍👍👍😀😀
My 2005 BMW X5 has had zero services and no oil changes during the past six years that I've owned it. Just today passed 158,000 miles and still drives perfect. I love it! 😊
I just bought my new to me 2011 LR4 and I'm very happy with it so far. Timing chain had been done a couple hundred miles before I took ownership so I was confident in the purchase. I've been looking through a lot of youtube videos on LR4s because, well of coarse I would. Anyway, I'm super happy to have found this channel. I love you twos back and forth bantering but also can sense the passion you have behind the vehicles as well. An easy channel to subscribe too!

I have to admit I love these two. Having your spouse be into fixing cars is extremely rare and Christian and Vera are the right type for doing this type of hobby. I realy look forward to new videos from them, just like I look forward to new videos from M539 Restorations.
Absolutely brilliant video. Christian's top tip for buying a used Land rover... buy a beautiful home with a 2 pillar lift first. This is going to be a great series. Glad to see your father in the Christian. Had seen him since the diy line boring video

Guten Tag! I recently subscribed after becoming the proud owner of a 2011 Range Rover Sport equipped with the well-known 3.0L Ford 'Lion' TDV6 engine. My brothers are avid Land Rover enthusiasts and have picked up many tips and tricks for keeping these vehicles in top shape. It's fascinating to see the various insights people share from around the world. One key piece of advice from my brothers is to service the TDV6 more frequently than Land Rover recommends to prevent many of the common issues associated with this engine. Greetings from down-under in Australia!
I did have a full spec 4 but it was just kicking back repeat electrical problems which were costing me a fortune. My 3 did so far 35.000 km on new C&V oil recommendations and I'm smiling. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video and thank you Christian and Vera for enabling me to realise that my D4 has a heated steering wheel, no more numb fingers. I've only had the car nearly 5 years, I am a dummkopf 🤡.
What a pair you are. Fantastic. Following from South Africa with my 2010 LRD4 bought new . Only replaced my suspension pump 4 years ago due to many hard trips through the Kalahari desert.
I watch your videos with much interest. I have owned two Land Rovers, a series one that I drove across the Sahara desert in 1974 even though it was twenty years old. I believe that Land Rover's reputation has been built on the 'expedition' capability of their vehicles and not just a 4 X 4 that can be driven around forest tracks. My series one could be repaired with a small tool kit by the side of the road (id necessary), I defy anyone to repair a Discovery with the kind of tools that you employ on a regular basis. Keep up the good work.
Peparing the Maul crawler for sale, fixing Vera's D3 steering and now a new engine rebuild lots of Sunday content to keep me entertained. Hope all this doesn't mean too many nights on the couch for Vera.😂
It's "Mall crawler, but "Maul crawler" is a great inadvertent "Denglishism", as "Maul" means "jaw" or "mouth", but is also part of great German words such as "Maultier/Maulesel" for "mule", and "Maulschlüssel" for open-ended spanners ... and "halt dem Maul" as an imperative for "shut up!" ;-)
I've watched a few of your videos in the past,i've had a few Land-Rovers myself but mine were series 2s and 3s,indeed my most modern was a Discovery 1 v8 which i had for 17 years.Up until now,i've not subscribed even though you're both very entertaining but once you said you'd never drive an EV i immediately knew we were kindrid spirits and hit the button! Good luck with this one,it'll be interesting to see what is going on inside that engine
I must thank you both on being so positive over D3 machinal issues. The motor trade runs away on the mention of a LR Discovery in the UK ,Yes only own one if you can fix it, so I'm investing in a 4 tonne workshop ramp. Meantime running my D3 6 spd Manual for 500mls without reverse gear after covering 225000 miles!!! , all it requires is the circlip on reverse selector lever on top of the box? How do you get to it, can't keep putting off the fix!!
You can see the details of the selector in the LR3 rebuild series. Its a strange little clip. Pulling the pin through the side is very tight with body-on.
To Vera…I use a step stool to make me taller. Much easier to lug the battery in there❤️🕊️You guys are a joy to watch Owner of a 2011 lr4 hse mall crawler:)
Great video that I watched a day late as I was at the 4x4 Expo yesterday. You had me rushing out to check my Discovery to see if it had the double-stiched seats and rear loudspeakers. Mine is a 2016 Landmark and I was happy to see that it did have the double-stiched seats and loudspeakers and my control panel is the same as yours and "piano black" as well - so it looks like mine is equipped the same as yours, though mine *does* have the screens in the back of the driver and passenger seats (unlikely to ever use them, though). The tow hook is an option and it costs over £400 in the UK (not cheap as chips as you said) and you have to order the slectric sochets as well as that is also an extra. But - if you are buying a used vehicle it is probably better if it does not have the tow hook or rear diff. as it has likely only been used on-road and not for towing and is likely to be more reliable - and you can always add the tow hook if you want to tow. The one essential thing that Land Rover missed is blind-spot mirrrors. The electric blind-spot monitoring is an optional extra - mine did not have this fitted, unfortunately (does yours) and was only fitted with flat mirrors. I find this dangerous and have had to use stick-on blind spot mirrore. I just wish there was an after-market option to have a mirror that has the outermost part as a blind-spot mirror. I have found one that stickes on top of the standard mirror, but you then lose the heated option - so you need a clip-on one that lets the heat through - still looking... The big problem with the Discovery is that they are so enjoyable to drive that you just want to get out of the house and drive. 😉 😃 Oh - you did mention servicing. Where I live we have two or three superb independent Land Rover repair specialists, one within walking distance. So, after my Land Rover warrenty expires, I will have mine looked at there. And ... talking to a 4x4 tyre expert at the 4x4 Expo I have found that I can safely put 225.55.R20 tyres on, so I can get all-season, all-terrain tyres that have the snowflake/3-peak symbol so I can legally drive in Europe in winter. 👍
@@Vera_and_Christian I thought they all had keyless entry - you can turn it on and off, maybe it was just turned off by the previous owner. I agree about ACC, but I really wish there was a decent optical blind spot mirror option without having to have a stick-on one.
Really enjoyed watching this video I happen to come accross. Nice to see partners work so well together. I always knew that Land Rovers are the least reliable but had no idea about how many issues, and I'm glad I never bought one.....
Congratulations on the new car, shame its not a Toyota folks🦆🏃♂️ have you considered putting a winch (with remote control) in the back of your garage/shed attached to the floor for ease of moving vehicles around the driveway. you can put several strategically placed anchor points around the driveway to also hook pulleys from when obscure angles are needed it would make it so much easier on you both. Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺
@@Vera_and_Christian that's fine while you are able to Vera but as I can speak from 50 years of experience screw your back up or your knees and that is for a lifetime. For a relatively cheap price you can make life easier for yourselves, able to continue longer and have a extra hand around the place for being able to do many other things, a winch and pulley mounted in appropriate spots could do more than the engine hoist/cherry picker could do and get into positions the hoist can't Think laterally your self and with Christians ingenuity I bet he would soon find it indispensable. Sisyphus didn't have an option, for his punishment, but you do 🤔🙄😁 Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺

Vera and Christian, saving Land Rover Discoverys, one engine rebuild at a time 👍🏻 looking forward to seeing how this one goes. We couldn't really hear the engine sound over Vera's screams looks like the Queen remains on her throne for a while then.
Christian going on what u said about the towing hook on your new Disco 4 we had ours pinched and had to buy 1 from land rover as going away and towing it cost us £580-00 a bit cheaper with bripart but had no time to wait for 1 so everyone look after your, I live in the uk
I've only just found your channel and loved every minute. I am now subscribed and looking forward to many more of your videos. Best wishes from England 😊
You guys are amazing! So, how many LR4's is it now!! Meanwhile here in Dubai, the worst LR3 in the world has just had its 10th Suspension fault (Front suspension has collapsed to the bump stops) and 2 months after a 1-year warranty expired, the 3rd battery has died, so soon it will be 4 batteries in less than 3 years of ownership...Oh, that's on top of needing a new AC evaporator fitting, which is an expensive dash out repair. We have thought of a LR4 or even another Range Rover again, but the dilemma is we have spent more than the cost of the car in repairs and a lot more than the LR3 is actually worth, but we feel we have to keep it long enough to get the "value" from it. It is a nice clean car, and a HSE so the interior is nice and despite issues it always passes the equivalent of the TUV or MOT test here in Dubai. What to do...?
You two are both very brave. When I had my D2 the mechanic used to say he had several customers with D3's looking for something more reliable if I ever wanted to sell it. No wonder Vera has such a trim figure, lifting all those batteries.😄
You're the only man I've heard of who sells his D4 because it's too reliable! Thanks for all the advice, I'm on 80K KM on my late '15 D4 and so far, nothing at all has broken or failed! I should sell it now, shouldn't I? 😆

Soo glad you’ve bought this car! Really looking forward to following your progress!
I never had a vehicle for 17 years. My respect. You did more for the enviroment than any EV driver. Christian
I had an Opel Vectra C 2.2DTi for 20 years, bought it new. It finally died…resting at my dads parking lot.
No denying these vehicles have the best interiors , still looks good inside and out for a 2015.
Brilliant , thank you for making my Sunday morning lie in!
You guys are awesome, you make me smile. Thanks for putting up with all us desk top mechanics. Good luck I'll be watching.
Hi both , I’ve got to say I’m from wales 🏴 in the UK and just found your channel and looking forward to catching up with all your post .
I don't have a Range rover,I never have been in one,I have not even drive one,but your content is purely addicted.
Great 👍🏻 👌
Thanks
Much easier to lug the battery in there❤️🕊️You guys are a joy to watch
Owner of a 2011 lr4 hse mall crawler:)
A new and exciting adventure awaits. Can’t wait for the future videos. Good job guys
Oh - you did mention servicing.
Our black edition has blind spot radar, adaptive cruise and keyless entry. The new one does not. I will be missing the radar. Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian I thought they all had keyless entry - you can turn it on and off, maybe it was just turned off by the previous owner. I agree about ACC, but I really wish there was a decent optical blind spot mirror option without having to have a stick-on one.
Once again my tea and toast was complimented with another quality video, thanks again you two👌
Very refreshing RE tutorial and educational video.
You both are very easy to understand and learn from
TOPS MARKS!
the most wholesome couple you will find out here. Love the content!
I’m looking forward to timing belt replacement.
Thanks for videos.
Really impressive.
guys please do a future video with a RR L322! Pleaseeeee! super cool watching you repair all these cars!
Thanks
Thank you so much 👌🙏🙋♀️
funny couple. light entertainment experience.☺ regards from Australia.
Your both so funny and entertaining, I don't and have never owned a Land Rover but i'm hooked on your videos 😀
Really enjoyed watching this video I happen to come accross. Nice to see partners work so well together. I always knew that Land Rovers are the least reliable but had no idea about how many issues, and I'm glad I never bought one.....
Congratulations on the new car, shame its not a Toyota folks🦆🏃♂️
have you considered putting a winch (with remote control) in the back of your garage/shed attached to the floor for ease of moving vehicles around the driveway. you can put several strategically placed anchor points around the driveway to also hook pulleys from when obscure angles are needed it would make it so much easier on you both.
Tony from Western Australia 🇦🇺
No we just need a little push, no need for winch. 👌🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian that's fine while you are able to Vera but as I can speak from 50 years of experience screw your back up or your knees and that is for a lifetime. For a relatively cheap price you can make life easier for yourselves, able to continue longer and have a extra hand around the place for being able to do many other things, a winch and pulley mounted in appropriate spots could do more than the engine hoist/cherry picker could do and get into positions the hoist can't
Think laterally your self and with Christians ingenuity I bet he would soon find it indispensable.
Sisyphus didn't have an option, for his punishment, but you do 🤔🙄😁

I’m looking forward to your work and repairs. I have also a Discovery 4, but SDV6 - love it!
Vera and Christian, it looks like some more great Disco content coming soon, fabulous!
Guys love your show and watching you work together. Keep up the good work and looking forward to your next video. American stationed in Hessen...
😅👍🙋♀️
Another entertaining Sunday! can't wait for the surprise gifts inside this engine and project. Am curious why the hate on electric cars?Cheers for now...
What a excellent episode 👏👏👏👏 Can not wait for next Sunday 👍😊
you earned another sub, well done Vera and Christian.
Another excellent video from you both. See you next Sunday. 🙏
Vera and Christian, saving Land Rover Discoverys, one engine rebuild at a time 👍🏻 looking forward to seeing how this one goes. We couldn't really hear the engine sound over Vera's screams looks like the Queen remains on her throne for a while then.
Christian going on what u said about the towing hook on your new Disco 4 we had ours pinched and had to buy 1 from land rover as going away and towing it cost us £580-00 a bit cheaper with bripart but had no time to wait for 1 so everyone look after your, I live in the uk
you have lovely accents and your English is better than most of the locals here in the UK
I've only just found your channel and loved every minute. I am now subscribed and looking forward to many more of your videos. Best wishes from England 😊
😅👌👍🙋♀️
Love your friendship you guys, great work
Kloop after a bad season with Liverpool 😂 , great video
Should call this Series...Rover Rehab!
why not "sis wehikel'
The best Time is LR TIME.. Great video guy's 👍
You two are both very brave. When I had my D2 the mechanic used to say he had several customers with D3's looking for something more reliable if I ever wanted to sell it. No wonder Vera has such a trim figure, lifting all those batteries.😄
😅💪🙋♀️
You're the only man I've heard of who sells his D4 because it's too reliable! Thanks for all the advice, I'm on 80K KM on my late '15 D4 and so far, nothing at all has broken or failed! I should sell it now, shouldn't I? 😆
LOL. I would. You should keep it. Christian
Hi C & V... great content.... good banter....you could start saying the MAIN STEALER SHIP which would be very applicable...lol
