For all those that question Robs contributions compared to Chris, this a prime example where he's proved you wrong by using his contacts and saved £2.5k on a replacement engine.
Also if Rob wasn't driving around everywhere picking up bearings and sealant and service kits Chris would have to do that himself and would never have any time to work on the damn engine in the first place
Thats what happens when you have a real old school mechanic on board, not taking anything away from Rob who sourced the opportunity and clearly makes it a team event, what a class act, good on you guys from a 70 year old, old school mechanic ex of Harritsham / Charing now retired to Canada, never miss a video.
That's going to be a nice family car for somebody. Well done guys doing it the old fashioned way rebuilding the old engine not just throwing it away and sticking a new one in. Proper job.
What a touch with that engine. Brilliant work once again. Everyone jokes about all the oils compared to the old days, but it shows you how important it can be to get the right one.
Neighbour had a Ford ranger pickup a few years back and thought that tractor universal oil would do instead of proper Ford approved. I think it cost £5000 for a replacement engine.
You landed on your feet there. Last video I was despairing as I expected that you would need to buy a used engine for around £2500. What a lucky break with all your trade contacts. Regarding the oil and filter, I agree that it is prudent to warm up the engine and dump the oil and filter, it is badly needing a flush due to previous neglect.
Kinda of video and job where knowing each other so well , working as a team without almost talking just works 👌🏻, oh and Ofc having Rob be the Tea / Coffee boy is a vital part of whole operation Chris 😂
Check the oil spec again as I believe the spec for that engine is now a 5w30 Stellantis FPW955535/03 changed from 0w20 in Jan 24. Your local factor has given you the wrong oil, given the problems with that engine I’d check this out.
Can't believe the detailed work you did on this one. Well beyond my pay scale even to consider doing something like this. Impossible to replace the experience you guys have. Thanks for letting us see this.
Been following you guys for a while. This was the first time I was genuinely chuffed for you. Instead of a simple fix (time) with chucking in a new engine, you went with a simple fix (parts)! Really happy for you both!
Hi guys you certainly have shown the benefits of knowing each other’s work ethics when rebuilding an engine, your being friends certainly helps as well, great work as usual lads
Deb’s Jizer is actually a little bit older than Gunk. Deb being best known of course for swarfega is British, Gunk being an American in origin. Price of everything seems crazy these days Rob and also all degreasers ain’t what they used to be (same with paint stripper etc) due to legislation on chemicals obviously getting tighter and tighter over the past 20 years especially) Another great video, keep up the amazing work chaps 👍
Having helped by Dad either re-build or replace several engines when I was younger the smell of Gunk brings back many happy memories. I still use it today along with Jizer - not sure which is the better product or offer best value for money.
You know what Rob, after all these years of watching it's nice to see Chris so happy and open if that makes sense. From when he wouldn't be on camera to not talking to now. I'm so glad he's finally getting the chances of doing the things hes been wanting to do and more. Keep up the good work
Guys Keep up the Good work its very insperational. Unfortunately 1 of my employees crashed 1 of my vans and thanks to yous i ended up fixing it myself filmed it and put it on UA-cam. Thanks for giving me the confidence but i think i will stick to my day job 😂😂
What dedication and you must have very patient partners to let you work on Sunday! As soon as you mentioned Gunk I could smell it, part of my teenage years cleaning and working on engines. Great video looking forward to the numbers. 👍👍👍
Fantastic result on the crankshaft. I've heard of oil turning to jelly, but never seen it till now. Really enjoyed seeing the engine rebuild. Top work. 👍
Team work make the dream work lads , you too are absolutely brilliant deserve all of your success ,transparency, trustworthy, professional.keep it up , love the videos 👍👍👍
Great result for all the hard work, and the fact you got the engine bits you needed off a mate free then at that point I knew it was meant to be, you guys work so hard & always go by the book. This truly is the best UA-cam channel ever!!
What a credit to the motor industry you two are, not just you integrity and thoroughness, your great ethics and principles, but your knowledge and skill are admiral.....even the way you respect each other...top blokes .
Possibly your best one one yet . Not that it was the most complex but it was the most hard to analyze , and you followed your gut feeling . Well done both .
This is propa old school wheeler dealers stuff and actually makes far better tv then old school wheeler dealers aswell!! Hats off to Rob and Chris on the content 👍🏼
Nice one guys you took a calculated risk and it worked out for you both, you complement one another and are a great team. Good old fault finding practices got your there in the end, well done and a Sunday !
Lovely stuff chaps. Team work. Excellent skills, attention to detail, investigating parts availability and ascertaining what the cause could be and using contacts for remedies. Brilliant.
Watched this video late, but if the battery has been disconnected, these do need keys in ignition for 20 minutes to resync the Immobiliser time out before a start. Believe they cut fuel or crank signal and fuel
Well done guys , got to be honest didn't think it was going to fire up ,but rob releasing the air from the system did the job,and a great rebuild by both of you 👍
Good job boys...btw, Rob, Gunk always was a different product to Jizer. I always preferred Jizer as it's water soluble and the surfaces came up clean whereas Gunk left a residue behind
Good job you have Chris wat a top mechanic you lucky to have him making sure everything is done properly you was lucky with that other engine to use the crankshaft out of thats wat you call a good mate that's why people should do help each other out but times change and people just think of them self and money not like the older generation like us 👍
absolutely loved these last couple of mechanical videos, the satisfaction of when those engines fire up here in my home feels great can only mean much more to you guys at the pointy end.
I get alot of people kick off with me because or the price of that oil when i sell a service kit. My response is i can sell you the 5w30 but thats used at your risk. Goes to show that the correct oil is important Class video as per guys. Love a engine rebuild vid haha
If you are using the original rods be very careful that the big ends are not ovaled slightly and you definitely need to remove all of the oil way plugs to clean the oil galleries, that's where all the old bearing swarf will be hiding.....
I have just rebuilt the top end on my transporter t5 2.5axd The camshaft made a hole in the lifters. I replaced the lifters and camshaft not a nice job on it needed a special tool for the 5 clynder engine. I had it where the oil had gone to jelly I think that’s what killed it. New cam new lifters sump removed and oil pickup all cleaned and replaced. New oil just to run it up to temp then drain and refill what a difference it’s made. Good video boys keep up the good work Regards Adam
Fantastic gents. Going thru the same at the moment with a 2019 Citroen relay. Using the same supplier as you have and hoping for the same results. Great Job ❤😊
Nice job chaps, that’s how we use to bleed them years ago. by slackening of the injectors pipes. I think the knocking was diesel knock. Worrying when hear them knock.
Nice work. Well done. A lot of garages would say you cant reuse a crank. Usually the ones that want to make more money. You must have felt nervous while it built oil pressure. Tap tap.
When IO saw the state of the interior of the car to me it showed it had not been looked after, to skimp on servicing is a no-no. My own car that Ive owned for 13 yrs from new gets a main dealer service every 12 months even if the oil still looks clean. Last year it barley did 1.5K. in toal its done 43K and still sweet
Lymm engine components are great company. Had some bearings, piston rings and head bolts from them recently. Really good service and delivered quickly.
That new crank is definitely like new Could you not have also just transferred the bearing chills over as they were matched to the crank Just my thinking Way to go anyway 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Cracking work, I was gonna suggest before it ran. I did a Diesel Filter on a 1.6 TDCi, the earlier DV6 engine and I think there’s no pump in the tank to send the fuel up and you have to flood fuel into the diesel filter and line with a hand pump to get as much air out as possible or they just crank on and on. 👍🏼 also never want to do one again only do enough to get me by, it was a mates car and he suggested changing it
For all those that question Robs contributions compared to Chris, this a prime example where he's proved you wrong by using his contacts and saved £2.5k on a replacement engine.
Quality.
And all donkey work he does isn’t easy going, cleaning and interiors.
They're a team, anyone who doesn't get it isn't worth listening or responding to anyway mate.
Awesome team...🤝🤙👊
Also if Rob wasn't driving around everywhere picking up bearings and sealant and service kits Chris would have to do that himself and would never have any time to work on the damn engine in the first place
I can't believe how Rob keeps them white trainers so clean.
I cant either, Rob you should wear protective boots like Chris mate. It only takes a moment for an accident to happen god forbid!
Clearly has a team of trainer cleaning mechanics hidden in the back room….
Uses the same stuff on his trainers as he does to clean his teeth
Ouch
Chris does the work
Thats what happens when you have a real old school mechanic on board, not taking anything away from Rob who sourced the opportunity and clearly makes it a team event, what a class act, good on you guys from a 70 year old, old school mechanic ex of Harritsham / Charing now retired to Canada, never miss a video.
Chris is first class , I’ve been a mechanic for 40 years and his work is excellent. Top Banana.
as a spanner man for 40 yrs .....tell me, how does Rob keep them shoes white ?
That's going to be a nice family car for somebody. Well done guys doing it the old fashioned way rebuilding the old engine not just throwing it away and sticking a new one in. Proper job.
Good to see fixing rather than replacing the whole engine.
Proof of "The harder I work the luckier I get!" Great result lads
You landed on your feet there. Last video I was despairing as I expected that you would need to buy a used engine for around £2500. What a lucky break with all your trade contacts. Regarding the oil and filter, I agree that it is prudent to warm up the engine and dump the oil and filter, it is badly needing a flush due to previous neglect.

Proper mechanic that actually wants to repair things, every garage needs a Chris.
Been following you guys for a while. This was the first time I was genuinely chuffed for you. Instead of a simple fix (time) with chucking in a new engine, you went with a simple fix (parts)! Really happy for you both!
Great teamwork. We'll done guys.
Rob, Chris, what a gift from your pal saved yourselves a few bob. She sounds sweet.
Brilliant video. Chris is an absolute genius with engines.
Yep. The guy can take apart and put back together any engine. Seriously talented.
Cor, that was lucky with getting the crank but you've done a great great job fitting it. Nice video.
Hi Rob & Chris, nice job guys.. great video, shows that prep, prep and more prep saves fortunes. That crank was like new..👍👍 Alex.
Hi guys you certainly have shown the benefits of knowing each other’s work ethics when rebuilding an engine, your being friends certainly helps as well, great work as usual lads
Was never in doubt it would start. Shows you can't always rely on tech as sometimes old school experience wins the day.
Chris is a very clever person with great skills. He can turn his hand to anything. He makes most things look easy.
Great save, the free bottom end was a real gift....Thanks to the goons who drive thru flood water.....🤔😳😏😏🇬🇧
Heartwarming teamwork. Always a real pleasure to see!
That was honestly a huge amount of work you both did there, but, what a superb result 😊 total respect and credit to you.
Deb’s Jizer is actually a little bit older than Gunk. Deb being best known of course for swarfega is British, Gunk being an American in origin. Great engine save from your mate. Shame the man with the hammer has been sacked.
You know what Rob, after all these years of watching it's nice to see Chris so happy and open if that makes sense. From when he wouldn't be on camera to not talking to now. I'm so glad he's finally getting the chances of doing the things hes been wanting to do and more.

Fantastic to see some good 'old fashioned' spannering from a proper mechanic!....Well done lads!
What dedication and you must have very patient partners to let you work on Sunday! As soon as you mentioned Gunk I could smell it, part of my teenage years cleaning and working on engines. Great video looking forward to the numbers. 👍👍👍
Boys, you are such a good team, don't ever fall out because you work so well together, love watching your content.
Well said
The new ant and dec 😂
So entertaining. You guys are a great team
Fantastic result on the crankshaft. I've heard of oil turning to jelly, but never seen it till now. Really enjoyed seeing the engine rebuild. Top work. 👍
I wonder what condition that turbo, and top end bearings are like, if the engine was starved of oil.
Team work make the dream work lads , you too are absolutely brilliant deserve all of your success ,transparency, trustworthy, professional.keep it up , love the videos 👍👍👍
I love the way Chris says 'right let's get started' then walks out the door to get supplies!
This video displays the level of knowledge you guys have . Top work 👏
Great result for all the hard work, and the fact you got the engine bits you needed off a mate free then at that point I knew it was meant to be, you guys work so hard & always go by the book. This truly is the best UA-cam channel ever!!
Well done guys, always nerve wracking starting up after a full rebuild, total result! 👏
Recycling at its best. And a brilliant video on a Engine rebuild. Outstanding again Guy's. Big Thumb's up.
Top job lads, its those little things that dont show up and cause a lot of fault finding.
I do like the in-depth engine build videos guys 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
This is propa old school wheeler dealers stuff and actually makes far better tv then old school wheeler dealers aswell!! Hats off to Rob and Chris on the content 👍🏼
Psa need locked up for 10mins after battery disconnection will have the spanner light on -immob self learn 👍🏻
Brilliant.
You really do work well together don’t you, I love watching you both because you both know what each other is going to do, love this channel guys 👍
It’s a pain when the air gets in the fuel system nice job both of you
Watched this video late, but if the battery has been disconnected, these do need keys in ignition for 20 minutes to resync the Immobiliser time out before a start. Believe they cut fuel or crank signal and fuel
Well done guys,, another one saved and back on the road😊
Brilliant result the gamble paid off in the end well done Chris and Rob
Brilliant .... there's something special about hearing it start up after all that hard work..... triumphantly rewarding
I always use white spirit, very cheap and just as good.
Chris's Skill is Off the Scale and Rob's Skill Also Blows me Away !!!!!!
When you tried to start it, it sounded like mine when I changed the fuel filter.
Well done guys , got to be honest didn't think it was going to fire up ,but rob releasing the air from the system did the job,and a great rebuild by both of you 👍
PHEW!!!! .... What a Relief! ... Poor old Chris looked quite 'crest-fallen' there for a bit ....
always a pleasure to watch you guys work. No drama, no stress just grading together. as they say tea work makes the dream work. Kudos to you both 👏🤜🤛
Well done Chris and Rob. Another one saved 👍
Good job boys...btw, Rob, Gunk always was a different product to Jizer. I always preferred Jizer as it's water soluble and the surfaces came up clean whereas Gunk left a residue behind

I had the same problem when I stripped a peugeot partner engine.
You was lucky it took me 15 min to get that air out the diesel pipes.
But good job.
@14.40 it looks like Chris is the surgeon "operating" with his assistant passing the instruments to fix the heart of the beast.
I get alot of people kick off with me because or the price of that oil when i sell a service kit. My response is i can sell you the 5w30 but thats used at your risk.
Goes to show that the correct oil is important
Class video as per guys.
Love a engine rebuild vid haha
Old school Rob, we always had to crack off the unions on the pipes to bleed.
Great Stuff Guys!! What Dedication! a well deserved outcome. "Thanks for Sharing" 👍
Guys I can't believe how clever you to are everything meticulous you go through things you are very professional honest.
Watching Rob work in the workshop in pearly white trainers makes my teeth itch lol. Tell him Chris 😊😊😊
Another great result from amazing team work. Well done guys
Rob it’s very difficult to prime them engines good thinking with the spanner 👍
In Mexico on holiday and Chris and Rob are still the best on UA-cam ❤
great content thatreplacment crank was a turn up and looked mint luv it when an engine gets fixed not scrapped
Very well done, sounds lovely now.
Loved the longer video today.
I'm a retired mechanic so really enjoyed the engine work

Go again, and again, and again.... that is what's called patience and confidence in your work.
Great content lads, well done!
Well done guys absolutely brilliant I love what are you guys you actually seem to know what you’re doing take it easy
Yesssss always great to hear the sound of a sweet runner after all that hard work, well done teamwork at its best 👏👏👏
Worrying when hear them knock.
..."14:58" did I hear correctly from Chris "plastic engine mounts" 😮
Love that engine rotisserie, looks like Clarke's does well out of SRUK ❤
Well done Rob and Chris ! Fascinating to watch modern cars are complex beasts !
thanks guys for doing great videos. love watching them. shame chris's mic volume was a bit low compared to rob's but hey it is what it is...
Nice work. Well done. A lot of garages would say you cant reuse a crank. Usually the ones that want to make more money. You must have felt nervous while it built oil pressure. Tap tap.

Lymm engine components are great company. Had some bearings, piston rings and head bolts from them recently. Really good service and delivered quickly.
Top class work yet again, this channel just gets better and better, I never miss a video, well done Chris and Rob
You two really are the must nuts, one of the best videos you ever done
A different but certainly interesting project indeed.
You two deserve a tv show..great team work and very adept skill sets.
Very talented cris not just a body repair boy old school mechanic
Really authentic channel - always worth a watch.
That new crank is definitely like new
Could you not have also just transferred the bearing chills over as they were matched to the crank
Just my thinking
Way to go anyway 👍👍👍🇦🇺
Rob, dont forget to use your launch code reader to bleed the cooling system when you run it up, otherwise it will air lock.
Cracking work, I was gonna suggest before it ran.
