      It would be nice to have an idea about how big an area is big enough to invade, and with what goals.
      I find that even a two-point living group inside an area that has earlier been almost entirely opposing territory will often fill a TON of previously enemy points. Add in the dame and the stones used to minimize my attack, and I can easily see him losing 30 or more points of territory, even on 13x13.
      The problem is, this is a high-risk undertaking. If he defends well enough, he'll keep the great majority of that area untouched, PLUS gaining all my dead stones.
      When is it wise to probe his walls, when is it safe to invade for territory, when is it safe to invade for minimizing the opposition, and when is it best to let sleeping dogs lie?
      I know that's a big question, but even just addressing HOW best to invade to deny the opponent territory would help a ton.

    I first started playing Go without knowing anything on a 19x19 board, and was completely clueless and lost every single game. Found your channel and saw your introductory 9x9 videos from like 4 years ago, completely loved them. I started playing on 9x9, got the hang of it, and now I kinda win most of my games on it, so... let's see how was I supposed to play on a 19x19!
    Thanks for all the content, you're a great teacher!

    I just moved to 19x19 from 9x9 few days ago, after just started Go for around 2 months. This is extremely helpful especially about the contact vs distance fighting! Please I am requesting you to make contents about invasion, using influence to get advantages, some common Josekis, attacking or defending strategy, or should I basically say everything xD
    Your contents are great, as always!

    I've been into Go for a while now, but trying to break through being a beginner when I don't play very often is difficult. Resources I've found online are great but I feel they are either lower or way above my level. This video was a very nice, comfortable advice for my level and I already feel it has impacted the way I think about the game.

    Thanks so much!! This is exactly what I need. I’m about 13-16Ku in 9x9 but am frequently beaten by 25Ku in 19x19 and I really needed this help to move to a bigger board. I've decided to watch this video once a day for a week, so that the message sinks in.

    Watched a whole bunch of your videos from start to finish and I'm so hyped about Go I might make my own board instead of playing online. Sit Down & Shut Up mentioned your channel in a video and I'm glad because this series of videos has made me a better Go player.

    Found this video today and it's VERY HELPFUL. As a beginner, 19X19 always makes me say, "Uh, I don't wanna try this one." Now I wanna give it a try and hopefully, learn more. Thanks!!!

    I have a go game running in another tab, and when I heard the 'capture' sound effect from the video I freaked out and went to see what terrible oversight I had made, only to see to my relief that it was still my oponents turn. I had no idea what was going on.

    My favorite size is 11 by 11. I like a smaller "bite size chunk" but its more elegant than the 9 by 9 which is just TOO SMALL, basically just 4 corner areas pressed together. 11 by 11 is enough bigger than 9,9 to be MORE ELEGANT but sill a nice "bite sized chunk". One of the go clubs I visited in San Francisco had a board that size but "standard" usually jumps from 9,9 to 13,13
    11, by 11 is my favorite AND its a great size for GONNECT which is a much better game than regular go.
    By all rights GONNECT should be the world's most popular game.

    Thanks In Sente this came just at the right time I've been transitioning to 19x19 😊
    What's your opinion on 13x13? Is it necessary to go through that stage at all?

    • @InSente
      @InSente  3 роки тому +5

      Hello! To be honest, I never did 13x13. I just made the complete jump to the full board :)

  • @pleasetellmeitworks

    Great video! What are your thoughts on moving to a 13x13 board before going to 19x19? Are they similar enough that you would recommend just going right to 19?

    • @InSente
      @InSente  3 роки тому +4

      Good question, glad you liked it! So, on average 13x13 is a lot less popular than 19x19, though with AI you can always get a game at that level. Honestly, my personality type is I'd just jump right into 19x19, there's more players and more games, plus you don't have to go through a second adjustment period by switching again haha

    Okay, here's a fun noob question.
    In one of your teaching games you mentioned that you're big on reading and fundamentals. You said that those serve you better than memorization. As someone who doesn't like using mathematical proofs that I haven't worked through myself, I like this sentiment.
    I'm 19k right now. I think I could get much higher without ever looking at joseki. I just got the hang of ladders and am getting better at fighting on the edge of the board. I'm still struggling to read out pincers and 9x9 openers. Would you begin to learn joseki before fully understanding the fundamentals of fighting? Or would you just jump right into it and trust the joseki to better illustrate how pincers etc work?

    • @InSente
      @InSente  3 роки тому +2

      Thats a great question! I would say, both! Looking at joseki can be a great learning tool, but it should be approached as exactly that - a learning tool. So no memorizing a bazillion sequences. Take one single set of joseki, and try to figure out WHY it is the way it is. Why did black defend? What if white cuts? That will help your game in the long run, especially as a beginning player

    For how long do you think one should stay on 9x9 boards? I'm very much afraid to dive in the deep end

    • @InSente
      @InSente  3 роки тому +1

      Its really whenever you feel comfortable, but I would stay on 9 by 9 untill you have a solid understanding of whats going on (i.e. when you can confidently hypothesize WHY you won or almost a given game)

  • @ScottVargovich
