Ellefson is one of my main influences to play, i met him a couple of times and he was super nice, he even signed 2 of my jackson basses... Great interview, I enjoy it so much
I do love this DAVE..not the other..he's a class act man ..don't care what happened. Not my business. Last I checked I'm not an angel either...best albums are with DAVE ELLEFSON
Mistake letting him go. People make mistakes. Love Dave Mustaine but come on he was the epitome of debauchery and crazy shit in the early years and a raging drug addict for so many years.... and his longtime only constant bandmate/brother makes a human mistake (with a consenting adult btw) and he is kicked out? Give me a fuckin break. Will always love Megadeth and jam them till the day I die and truly feel Dave M is also a great guy but this decision is way off base. Dave E is the other side of the coin. Will miss him for sure. He also happens to be a really awesome and chilled intelligent dude who cares so much about his fans it's clear in every interview I've ever seen of him.
One of the only 2 autographs I got from Megadeth is from Ellefson. Way back in 98 after waiting outside after the concert. Cryptic Writings tour. They played at a little venue called The Rage in Vancouver. Got to watch the iconic lineup with little more than a couple meters between the stage and the general admission floor. The other autograph I got was from Marty Friedman. I even shook his hand. I still remember the face Marty made, like I was gonna tear his hand off or something haha, but he did it and all was good. I chickened out asking Mustaine for an autograph as he walked by. Still regret it, but it is what it is. Would have liked to get Menza's autograph, but he B lined to the bus after the show. Can't believe it's been almost 25 years. Time is wild.
I had a similar experience for Cryptic Writings Tour here in Ventura CA. Whole band came out and shook hands. No autograph, but Dave Mustaine threw me a pick. Almost list my fingers grabbing it.
@@TheTraubenstein Right on. I forgot that Marty Friedman gave me a pick too when I got him to sign my ticket stub. I dont think it was used on stage or anything, but still pretty cool. Just a black pick that says Megadeth on it. I can't imagine having Mustaine throw me a pick though. That would be dope. The little things that guys like us remember forever, but they totally forgot even happened haha.
thanks brother. great interview. thanks for all you do Dave Ellefson. You are amazing Love your UA-cam channel. thanks again Mike. I will check out your other stuff. Cheers.
Yeah, It almost feels like Mustaine's resentment stems from Ellefson's seemingly effortless, caring, and tranquil nature that he envys and sadly in the mind of a narcissist this turns to paranoia, and ultimately his unraveling. A man at war with himself will never find peace. And who knows, maybe it's within this manufactured chaos that Mustaine needs to reside in order to keep things together. Seems weird to me, but then again he is a musical genius. Hate it or love it, much respect to both Dave and David for staying true to form and producing some of the best Metal in history.
Interviewer seemed a bit nervous in the beginning of the video but got a little better towards the end.Yes rude awakening is my fave live megadeth album.I never saw any credits on where the album was recorded though.Does anybody know what venue the album/video was recorded in?
As much as Dave hated being kicked out and was jealous of the success, there was no way he could make it bigger than Metallica due to his voice. For the longest time, he was high-pitched, whiney and his voice is slightly nasally. Jame’s voice sounded better. There are many bands that were hampered by vocalists. Dave is a great guitar player and songwriter. But, singing wasn’t his strong point. I give him credit, because he took lessons and improved, but he wasted so much time before doing that. If he would’ve taken lessons early in his Megadeth career it would’ve helped his challenge of Metallica. But, after hearing Matt Drake of Evile, I’m bored with Hetfield’s vocals. Drake took that Hetfield style and did it better, in my opinion. He is better at using vibrato while “growling” and his voice is a little deeper (but, Evile played a half-step down from what Metallica does, so he sang slightly lower).
Have you listened to Youthanasia through Cryptic Writings including Hidden Treasures? Dave’s voice is very strong with much more range than Hetfield. James has gotten much better as a singer and Dave’s voice has lost all it’s range. Some singers damage their voice or start to degrade while some do not. But songs like 99 Way to Die, Reckoning Day, The Disintegrators show Dave as truly a singer/guitarist rather than a lead guitarist that decided to sing cuz there was nobody else.
I don’t ever compare vocalists. Obviously James and Dave sound a lot different but I can’t imagine Mustaine with any other voice. His voice does sound pretty good these days I think. He doesn’t sound like straight up micky mouse anymore and kind of has that distortion to his voice now which I love!

Filmed with the new Potato phone 14
Does he wash his hands before making and selling his coffee, or is that the secret ingredient?
In the age of no shame, how do you come back and show your face after what this dude did?
The odds of conducting an interview with David Ellefson in which he whips out his junk is slim but never zero.
