There seems to be a perception among some metal fans that Ellefson is the sort of bassist that has only remained in the band for so long because he keeps his nose clean and just does what needs to be done. But that perception doesn't do him justice at all. The truth is that he is a very, very tight metal bassist who, in addition to locking in exceptionally well with Mustaine's lightning-fast riffs, has great tone, great phrasing, and also plays some very cool, very tasteful licks. No. The reason he stayed in Megadeth for so long was because he was a stupid kid that had never been in a serious band before and he didn't have the experience and confidence to stand up for himself. I don't know what your threshold for "jazz background is," But I will assume it means everyone that went to a music conservatory or ever played professionally in a Jazz Band.
That's almost every famous living drummer, but examples of some of the few that aren't played polyrythms and odd time signatures very well are Ringo Starr, and John Bonham. Nick Mason was all over the odd time signatures too. Honestly I think rock drummers play odd time signature pieces much better. When Nick Mason or Lars Ulrich plays 7/4 you know damn well where the downbeat is. When jazz and prog drummers do that shit it's like they are reveling in the opportunity to obscure the downbeat. Then they condescending look at the poor sax player like it makes them a good musician that the soloist got confused by their math drumming.
Dawn patrol is one of my favorite . loved the bass ,drums and Dave's vocals!
I always felt the Peace sells riff more snappy and poppy.
These ellefson videos are truly heartbreaking. Such an incredible bassist, such a shame the way things went
It's a shame Mustaine was such a coward about something quite harmless.
@@idrathergetaidsthangetwoke9145 “what? No second chance?’
@@harryforster602 as I understand it he's back in?
@@idrathergetaidsthangetwoke9145 funny how Mustaine talks proudly about fighting, fucking and drug taking but couldn't give his bassist who made a mistake
What happened?
David is one of the best bassist of all time
poison was the cure should've been on here lol
And My Last Words.
+Denver Dubtle I never hear anyone mention that song and It's my all time favourite Megadeth song. I'm glad I get to see someone mention it here.
+ArdipithecusR. Oh...all Megadeth fans love it. It's the greatest under 3 minute song ever.
+Denver Dubtle But you have to remember it's not Denver Dubtle's top 5 Megadeth bass riffs.
The video's intro reminds of Poison was the cure
"So far, So good, So rock"- David Ellefson
my personal favourite is Hanger 18, first Megadeth bass line i ever learnt
+Not a Droogie so it is
+Not a Droogie Im a droogie
When I was growing up and heard these songs, I never really gave much thought to what he was doing since I’m not a bass player. But as an adult watching these (now a drummer, still not a bass player) I’m thoroughly impressed at just how good he is. Nice and tight playing, clean sounding riffs.
I'm listening this video with headphones and damn, sounds as good as the track in the studio. No errors and clean sound
He's such a chill dude. I'd love to have a beer with him.
you sure?
@@sofberet8888 he may have cranked his driveshift to a 19yr but he still seems like a great guy. I'd probably wait for the drama to cool down and THEN have a beer

Good lord, it's almost as bad as a lyric suggestion made by Kirk for St. Anger
@@lemon_curry_ yeah dave couldnt really write lyrics in the early days
i hate to have to hate this guy. his playing is so iconic and seems like a cool guy
you dont need to hate him
He's a great teacher, but the biggest lesson I've learned is 'don't trust other people with nude videos of yourself'.

Not at all defending what he did (no nearly 60 year old married man should be sexually engaging someone who's barely legal and the age of their own children) but to be fair...he did not know it was being filmed.
I saw that tour (2:56) with Dio and Savatage in Kalamazoo MI!!! That was one hell of a show and the last time I got to smoke Opium!! I was 15 then, I haven't seen any Opium since and I will be 50 next year! Miss that flowery scent and that body buzz!!!
The precision of his playing is amazing.
He's so professional at EVERYTHING he does, I love David Ellefson!
All these badass lines will be remembered forever, and... fuck! It's like having a nice dream and getting a punch in the face! Good luck for Mustaine on finding anyone else to "replace" Mr.Ellefson.
you cant replace jr. he ws perfect for megadeth. he and mustaine were the spirit of the band.
@@the4given196 James LoMenzo is back in Megadeth, but we're not sure if he's staying for the foreseeable future.
@@Morphoidism Thats both good and bad news.
Good: he prooved with the 2004 remake that he can perform ellefsons lines really well.
Bad: everything after that was pretty meh.

Seeing David going against everything he stands for publicly to satisfy his perv needs just shows he doesn't care about right or wrong if it pleases him, he's just a hyprocrite with fame and money.

I love the fact that most of his favs are our (the long time fans) favs. And that he doesn't shy away from saying, "This is actually hard" even though is may not seem that way. Too many musician's give this false sense of "This is easy just go do it" when it's not. He let's you know, "Have some patience, and practice."
I've always loved his tone. It's so dang crispy and metallic sounding. I've never once heard him play with strings that sound old.
Seriously, one of my favorite bassists. Very tasteful, and can balance expression, foundation and overall musicality.
Supremely talented but really never overbearing. Sad we wont get to listen to his work on the new Megadeth album, but hopefully Metal Alliance and other platforms will allow us some more ear bliss from the man :)
I was so sure that the last one would be poison was the cure

As of today May 24, 2021, Megadeth Bassist David Ellefson, is no longer in the band, it was inevitable. 💀🎸💀
There's so many more, I personally love the bass intro on "The Poison Was the Cure"
Oh yes, good call! I love that one too!
Happy he mentioned that part about picking up an instrument for the first time and suddenly writing a new song. I've had that happen a few times with a few different guitars, it is crazy how a song can just happen the second you hit a note without a thought, you have gold.
No Rust in Peace...Polaris?
+Chase Broughton Maybe in his top 10?
Chase Broughton you could argue almost every song off rust in peace!
