  • Review of the Yamaha MT 07 which was kindly lent to me by the guys at Laguna Motorcycles - www.laguna.co.uk/
    Having ridden the MT 09 and the MT 10 I thought it was time to give the Yamaha MT 07 a test to complete Yamaha’s MT line up. A great bike suitable for a beginner while also delivering the thrills that an experienced rider is after.
    What stands out first about the Yamaha MT 07 is the handling. The bike feels solid, well put together and confidence inspiring. I actually preferred the feel of the MT 07 over the MT 09. It’s hard to put my finger on precisely why, the bike just felt more complete. I understand this is probably a pretty rare view though so please try them and let me know what you think!
    The MT 07 has decent toque from it’s 689CC engine. Gears were engaging and the throttle response felt natural to me. Top end speed didn’t feel like it would be particularly high though with the wind it’s not a bike you’re going to want to spend much time in the 80mph+ range.
    The MT 07 Shines in the twisties. Easy to ride, goes where you want it with good acceleration delivering a smile to your face as you exit the bends.
    Seating position is comfy though seat a little hard so worth upgrading. Being upright gives you a great view and no pains from my 2 hoursish. Other points to upgrade would be the exhaust. I found it too quiet.
    The test ride was on the Ice Fluo colour scheme though also comes in black or blue.

    I've included a couple of sections in the twisties where I talk less to give viewers the chance to 'experience the ride' a bit. Would be great to hear if you guys like this or not as not sure if can get boring?

      I think if the bike sounds good then yes. But the MT07 is super quiet, so a bit of dialogue may have been needed. With your CBR650R vid the other week the bike sounded quite nice going through the twisties so it was good to hear the engine note. I really liked your enthusiasm in the CBR video too. I take delivery of mine next week - Proper excited!! I also tried out the MT07 but it didn't grab me like the Honda did.
      My next bike will be a Triumph Tiger 800 would love to see you test one of those.

      @@RedlineRossi thanks for feedback. Yeah I think the CBR650R sounded a lot better and personally enjoyed that more, despite the pains at the end of the ride 😂 found this better than the cb650r though which is a closer comparison I guess. Great choice in the getting the CBR650R, did you go for the black or the red?
      Also I've done the tiger 800. Popped a review up around a month back I think. I took the 800xrt out which I thought was excellent. Preferred it over the 1200 too. If I was going to be changing my daily I would be getting one. Though next year tiger 900 is due to launch I think...

      @@TommyBarnezTV Went for the black one after a lot of thought. I really like the red one, which most people seem to be getting. But I think the black looks a bit meaner and has a stealth bomber kind of look to it.
      Got the sports pack too which comprises of a quick shifter, seat cowl, dark tinted screen, tank pad and rim tape. Also got a tail tidy as the standard tail is among the worst I've ever seen.
      I will check out the TT800 review.
      Thanks 👍

    Got mine in the spring, got the fender eliminator and integrated tail light. Two brothers exhaust and flashed the ecu. LED flush turn signals and took off rear rider pegs.
    I disagree with the wind screen...it’s a naked bike keep it a naked bike. The wind isn’t that bad and I’m not going 70mph+ all the time, I really doubt the wind being deflected at your head will make it all that more enjoyable.
    Definitely need an exhaust as it makes it sound like a bike and not a glorified moped.
    Love my bike though.

    Nice review :) I've owned an MT07 for the last 14 months or so and pretty much agree with everything you say. Cracking bike for the money, the engine is the star of the show .. a tasty little mill with great character, it shoves out plenty of torque giving lots of low and mid range grunt .. runs out of puff a bit easy at the top end but keep it to more or less legal speeds and it's a good, fun bike to play about on. Negatives are the finish - yamarust is definitely an issue ..... and the suspension is not great which can result in some pretty sketchy moments if you're on the boil down a bumpy road. Other than that it's a peach of a bike, nice machine for sure :)

      Nice! How you finding riding in the US compared to UK?

    • @UK2PAUSA
      @UK2PAUSA 5 років тому

      A lot different riding here. I live in Pennsylvania and it’s illegal to lane split (what they call filtering here) which is of course one of the huge advantages to riding in the UK. You have to use your 6th sense here more though... drivers are nearly always not paying attention/on their phones much more so here then in the UK. Because bikes are generally a seasonal thing on the east coast they aren’t catered for well with parking and drivers aren’t used to you as much. The roads though here are great! Of course everything is newer and bigger, roads are wider and there are so many great rides. You can see why Harley’s are so popular here, not just because they are American but because typically people will go on vacation on their bikes/ride for days. Love my MT though. Was a bit nervous when I first got it having last ridden a nc30 vfr400 in the UK back in 98.

    • @TommyBarnezTV
      @TommyBarnezTV  5 років тому +1

      @@UK2PAUSA sounds ok on balance. I guess it's just getting acclimatised to the roads and traffic. I find the junctions look a bit dangerous to me compared to roundabouts but I'm too tuned in to uk roads now. Might ride there one day, shame about filtering!
      Welcome back to riding!

    I've had mine for 13 weeks and love it. Normally used to riding two strokes of years ago but getting used to the four stroke now. I'm no speed freak or street racer so the suspension (as has been mentioned by some) being a little soft on braking isn't an issue. Brakes are ok too. I noticed you didn't get into 5th or top...not judging your riding ability...but I think this is where it performs....being able to stretch its legs. Getting 4.3 - 4.5 litres / 100 k. average. Totally happy with my MT-07.

    • @TommyBarnezTV
      @TommyBarnezTV  5 років тому

      Thanks for feedback. Yeah I tend to stay in lower gears and higher revs on most bikes as engine breaking force is then greater along with responsiveness. I think I popped it in 5th or 6th on the dual carriageway when up to speed though I wasnt really assessing the fuel economy. Find it a little difficult to get reliable figures on that during my shortish tests of bikes. Pretty sure its going to have good fuel economy with the size of the bike though.
      Noticing much difference between 2 and 4 stroke getting back into it?

    • @alangriff1
      @alangriff1 5 років тому +1

      Yes sure do...the torque is amazing. Takes a bit of getting used to brakes with ABS. It's a keeper for me . I did consider the MT-09 and would have loved the triple but a little too heavy...I'm only a liteweight and shorty...lol

    In a parallel twin where the the pistons move up and down simultaneously the crankshaft angle is 360 degrees, whereas the inline twin with alternately moving pistons the angle of crankshaft is 180 degrees. The main advantage of a 360° crankshaft (parallel twin) is ,single carburetor can be used for both the cylinders, there is no need of separate ignition system for different cylinders. However one major disadvantage is the heavy Vibrations. The inline twins with 180 degrees crankshaft tends to cancel the vibrations by moving pistons in opposite directions but due to irregular igniting timings the firing pulses create additional vibrations. There must be two different fueling system for both the cylinders and separate ignition system must be used.

  • @peterdove4198
    @peterdove4198 4 роки тому +1

    To my knowledge, in-line twin means the pistons run next to each other but are offset on the crank so reach tdc at different times, parallel twin mean they run next to each other but run together on the crank so they reach tdc at the same time

    I was putting my *09 Yamaha FZ6 in the back garden.And I dropped it on top of me.And it bent the Clutch lever. Kind of like your brake lever.I put a new aftermarket clutch lever on,and it was a shorter lever.Worked fine.My brother had to pick up the bike off of me.Now I know what not to do.I was happy the exhaust pipe didn't burn me.I test rode a Harley and the pipe was near my leg.I burnt the inside of my leg.Left a scar.I'll pass on Harley Davidsons.Except I do like 1200cc Sportsters like the Sportster 1200CC Custom.The 883 is too small.I like bikes with torque off the line.Such as the Yamaha MT09 or Kawasaki Z900 ABS.The MT07 I tested was alright.THe MT09 in A mode with the traction control turned off.Is a torque monster and Wheelie machine.You can be a Hooligan on the MT09.Just put a aftermarket exhaust system on or just a slip on and Flash the ECU.Now you got more torque and Horse power.And people if they can't see you.They will hear you!

    The 4K video is excellent, new camera ? :)
    "In line" and "parallel" twin.
    There seems to be a lot of confusion around these terms.
    Maybe just say "2 cylinders , side by side" , but that's a mouthful !
    It certainly is a lot of bike for the money.
    If only I wasn't as obsessed with modern retro Triumph twins, I could've save a fortune !
    I did consider the XSR700 , the MT-07 has a bit of a "Transformer" look to me. Yes this is a personal preference.
    Yamaha might sell me an XSR700 one day, or will bike 2 be a Street Triple ? Dunno ! (This Triumph obsession is expensive)
    182 Kg fully wet sounds good, that'd be easish to push around.
    LCD looks easy to read. Honda CB650R etc , please take note !
    Stock exhaust sound, blame Euro 4 . Sigh :(
    I did see some set of expensive "Jekyl and Hyde" after market pipes on an expensive Indian bike with an electric control on the baffles.
    Now that would be nice, a switch to go LOUD ! Then when you get near home late at night, go quiet and keep the neighbours happy :)
    See Motobob's video ua-cam.com/video/qHyQmDyjuDo/v-deo.html ("4:18") .
    14 litre tank is brilliant on a 125. Over a 300 mile range.
    This bike according to Yamaha does 4.3litres/100KM or 65MPG so a theoretical range of 200 ish miles (325Km)
    That sounds pretty good to me. (140 mile range on my Triumph. Sigh !)
    Roadster position. Yeah, works for me. I don't want to have to see a chiropractor everytime I get off a bike.
    Doubt if I'll ever buy a full on sports bike. I'm too old !
    London bikes and keys. Almost makes a point of keyless ignition (assuming there's still a steering lock). I hadn't thought of that before.
    re 13:28 . Pedal cyclist wishing they had internal combustion :) I don't miss being over taken by cars, vans and especially lorries and buses when on 2 wheels.
    About it's competitors, yeah the Honda CB650R, I'd add the Suzuki SV650 and Kawasaki ER-6n and if you want retro twin looks the RE Interceptor is in a similar price bracket, but doesn't go as fast.
    Before anyone says, I shouldn't have got the Triumph, no I don't regret it. I am a middle aged British bloke who heard too many Triumph stories from his Dad :)
    One question, what was the suspension like ? Some have complained earlier MT-07s were a bit soft . (I don't have a clue, never ridden one)

    Parallel twin describes a 360° crank, typical of old British bikes. The pistons move together or parallel. Since it was the oldest style of inline twin it got incorrectly carried over to future bikes, like Japanese ones which all had a 180° crank angle. 270° firing order inline twins were pretty much non existent until modern times because of the required counterbalance shaft. 90° L-twins and other narrower V-twins existed instead.

      Maybe some LEDs but I'd be very surprised if it gets a QS or any rider modes ... those would push the price up too much. The current re-development of the bike is for new upcoming euro emissions regs ... thats forced development, they have to do it in order to keep selling the model - can't see them also throwing money at much more for what is essentially a cheap bike. The MT07 is built to a low budget in order to retain it's price point in the marketplace and also within the MT range. But - if they did an SP version like with the 09 then that would be a different kettle of fish ... charge more for it, put more gadgets on it ...

    I have a doubt. I just bought the MT-07 and the first few days I could not distinguish engine noise or anything, I got on and now. I'm a noob. The thing is that I have noticed that in neutral, while standing, an almost imperceptible sound is heard (you have to notice to notice) as if the clutch discs rub against each other when turning. When the clutch lever is pressed, the noise disappears and is heard again when released. I wanted to know if it is normal, as I said it is an almost minimal noise and the bike is going well, it has two weeks.
