58:30 I heard a food specialist researcher say that, reason fruit sugar is no issue, regardless of amount, is because of the fibres in the fruit, the fibres creates a gel in your intestine so it blocks a lot of the sugar from going into your body. The result is that it sends the sugar further down the intestine so that your microbiology, the bacteria etc. gets to feed on the sugar instead.
I listened to the podcast on Google Play and came here to comment on how I really enjoyed this interview. I could listen to Mike for another 3 hours. I am thankful to Mike for sharing his story and life experiences. It's evident from the way he speaks that he is a compassionate and kind person. Wishing him lots of love and peace.
What I like about these podcasts they are real conversations- no deadline. So information.
Female hormones are very different. I can testify to that! Would love to know how to understand/ master my own chemicals and am looking at scientific papers and information released on Google.
Can you bring a neuroscientist or other expert on to talk about the hormonal differences and manifestations between women and men please?
:)
Dr Barnard talks a lot about hormones, the talk I heard was reproductive, but really informative! He does have a book though that you could check out
You are a revolutionary in this industry. Your guests are some of the most inspiring
People. Learning how to achieve a life of
harmonic wealth. Spiritually, physically emotionally and relationally. A life devoid of True Love and Friendship is truly poor. Similar to having all the money in the world and a body that's unhealthy, We must attend to all aspects of life with grace. A very exciting concept that is achievable. Your podcast delivers this message in a way that's never been delivered before. Thank you!
Much gratitude
most uplifting part of your podcasts exemplify taking action, showing the result people who have been successful in achieving wealth in all aspects of life is a lifelong journey that one must never become complacent about because change is always happening.
OMG- after hearing bout the human trafficking, I sprinted (literally) the three blocks away to meet my kids after school instead of letting them go home together. A good thing, I got a great workout as well as peace of mind. I will do everyday from now on. Thanks for bringing up these important subjects!
You are 100% right about the baby snatching, I am an example of that, I was taken as a baby and sold for 25K to the highest bidder via a private Dr to a couple in their late 50's, in hindsight I was lucky could of been far worst!! They target innocent women or young couples that are distracted or the dr will pretend she needs to be put to sleep due to urgent birthing, then say the baby died/still birth, then sell the baby. I used to be ashamed about my situation but now I am not anymore, people need to know it's happening, especially parents. Luckily with DNA sites I am getting closer to find my immediate family, already have 2nd cousins helping me :)
@@Vrin137 Wow, great story, I hope you find your family & are happy, meanwhile, enjoy your life, wishing all the best for you
@@Vrin137 even if stillborn, you have to let the mother see the body of the baby.
Great Interview. I've always struggled with my weight sometimes being 50-60lbs overweight. However since doing an intermittent fast on recommendation of a work colleague who suggested i started studying hormones and how they affect the mind and the body it's been a revelation to me.
I've been steadily dropping 1.5lbs per week (sometimes a bit more) for the past 4 months just by missing my breakfast and lunch 2 days per week. I'm hungry at times during the day i'm doing this but i keep telling myself i'm not going to starve and i drink plenty of water (about 2 litres per day or 70 fl oz).
The one thing i have noticed is that when i go to break my fast i don't crave fatty or comfort foods as much as i would eating normally. Instead i find myself eating a bit less and generally wanting greens and fish. I've also noticed when you break your fast even food normally considered bland seems a little bit tastier.
That's my experience FWIW.
Agreed, I used to do a lot of intermitent fasting when in 20's & 30's, reason being, once I start eating in the day, suddenly I get hungry, so to avoid eating too much, I wouldn't eat until dinner time & lost cravings for sweets & kept a healthy weight and also never got sick
If you quit sugar , the taste of vegetables etc. magnifies even more.

Another amazing guest! Thank you 🙏🏼
Wow, that was one of the best podcasts I ever listened! Such a knowledgable guy! As an 8-year WFPB athlete I learned so much!
love this one! what a down to earth, inspirational guy!
Really like this dude. Great interview and insight on a lot of fronts. Thanks Rich✌👊
Sooo recognizable all the stuff Mike's talking about;) Great info (as ALWAYS:)) & got some new nuggets from this. Thanks for sharing; I looooove all your podcasts Rich; you are always the best at asking in depth specific questions:)!!!!
Powerful. I've been a huge fan and customer of Mike for years. Thank you for the video
I listen to this once a month. One of my favorite videos period 🙏🌱
Well done, both of you...!
Great episode! Mike is the man
Thank you, Mike for sharing your story about abuse & acknowledging others struggles with this - I can relate. You are a beautiful soul & great example. Love you my friend. Keep that bright spirit & loving heart. ❤️
Mike is a great role model! Hard worker and lives a life of service 🙏🏼
Really enjoyed this podcast, @richroll. Mike's works is one I'm going to delve into.
You guys, this is such an important and really necessary conversation especially around mental health and suicide. I also think we need to bring more women into the conversation. I’m 41 years old and spent most of my adolescent and adult depressed and suicidal. Turns out I’ve had a hormone imbalance my whole life as well an iron deficiency. At times I’ve been suicidal myself. I think educating people, especially the younger generation on this subject as well as the importance of things like Iron, could literally save lives!
Very very good information. Thank you both so much, its really appreciated.
This one made me a huge fan again RR. Good work man!!!
Super cool exchange, Rich. Hormones were the make-or-break factor for a good number of close friends involved in marathon training. Those who continually neglected their internal balances in favor of "peak performance" via dieting were left with a number of chronic health issues.
Another great dive. Thanks a lot guys
Great podcast! Two awesome people. Thx for creating & sharing! :D
This is probably my favourite RR podcast. I learned a lot. Mike seems like an awesome guy. Thank you.
Great conversation, I learned a lot! Thanks Rich & Mike.
When are you gonna be on the podcast?
i wonder if these guys are still vegan

amazing interview, very raw and real
This is a very dynamic conversation and Mike is very dynamic and balanced. Rare quality ! Mike discussed and answered questions based on the specific context and situations. Way to go.
I really like this guest I love learning from this podcast!!! Orchestra like hormonal health system so cool I did not know this.
Great episode!!
New viewer and will continue to watch...you both are great people....thanks for the podcast!!
Easily one of my favourite podcasts ever!!! Learnt so much great info 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thanks a lot!
Super interesting discussion! Mike's approach to fitness & nutrition seems incredibly sensible & balanced without sounding preachy or pushing any kind of agenda. I love the honesty & recognition that there's not a 'one size fits all' solution. Thanks guys!
Mike is an invaluable source of information and his products are top notch. He's a true warrior with a big heart. Great podcast, enjoyed this episode.
Great conversation Rich.
What an excellent podcast - Mike Mahler was very informative and compelling.
So so good!!

What a smart, interesting and so multi-facetted person!
Great podcast!
My understanding of the smoothie issue is that you're skipping the first stop in your biome. "Chew each mouthful 40 times" is great because that is mixing your saliva in with your food. Saliva is part of your microbiome and carries with it essential bacteria. That's the argument, as I understand it, with smoothies. Mastication is the preferred method of ingestion for our microbiome.
Think about the experiment in science class where we dissolved rock salt versus a large rock of salt. The broken salt dissolved faster because of increase surface area. This relate to smoothies because the surface area is nearly infinite on the food. The body is seeing this Infinite surface area and contact with stomach acid, leading to the near instant release of glucose and insulin in the body
Very intelligent and incredibly informative conversation. I learned so much from you both. Thank you both for this!!!! Btw I think the skin burn gives Mike a ton of character on top of what he's like as a person!!!👌
Excellent interview. Great to hear from Mike Mahler - he was the first one to get me into kettlebells years ago. So much good information. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed this conversation very much.
I first became familiar with Mike Mahler many years ago after reading an interview he did with Ori Hofmekler, who he spoke about in this video.

Good interview ...great guest..
What a fantastic discussion that covered so much. So much of this I could relate to.
Thanks Mike and Rich I liked a lot this chat
Thank you .
I really like Mike Mahler. I don't lift weights or do body building but I love his morality and character and also his sense of humor.
Great interview!
So interesting, great interview thank you guys!
Thank you so much!
Great information here. I don't fully agree with everything here but I agree that "compassion is a form of strength". When you can put aside your agenda for a while and focus on the needs of others it shows strength in that you are able to do this without worrying about losing ground.
Brilliant podcast ...
Very accurate description of nutrition and the endocrine system and the effects of trauma and stress and impact it has on the central nervous system and how it impacts on your life Also shows how reticent kids can shine and their vulnerability makes you more empathetic to the plight of others .. 💕🙏💕...My daughter developed a red patch which wasn’t a port wine stain but she has never wanted to change it as she is beautiful anyway ... ...You are unique and why be so self conscious beautiful inside and out ...
what a great and smart guy
A nice guy bravo Rich
Great Interview - went to Mike's charity of choice - I've got to say AMAZING! They have rescued over 500 children from slavery and horrific short lives. All the time the family cannot get through a day without wondering whether their child is alive, dead or the worst and most likely : the subject of extreme child slavery/molestation ( where you may think a death would have been far more merciful) An organisation of warriors that genuinely are worth donating/supporting.
Rich Roll is incredible
Mike is so right about fasting. I don’t feel hungry unless I start eating - totally counterintuitive
I wish that the case with me 😟
Another positive influence! 💚
Thank you!
This podcast can be listened and relistened several times for sure!
This one made me a huge fan again RR. Good work man!!!
I've been getting great info from Mike for over a decade.
Oh , Wow! Going to try taking the licorice supplement! Thanks, for such great info & conversation ❤️
This is my favorite intro music of any channel
Awesome interview I was captivated the entire time. This guy...MM is charismatic and delivered his views in an unassuming way.
He just seemed like a genuinely nice guy. Too often, you see someone this big and muscular, they come across as arrogant.
Wow...first time i see this show I've seen rich before but not mike...if i had alot of money i would try to be this dudes homeboy...👍👍very interesting subjects he touched....and i can relate to alot of it....
It was very interesting but I’m a female so I don’t know what to do about all the men advice. The takeaway for me was that we’re all to some degree adrenal fatigue and if that could be addressed in a female’s body I’d be interested in that.
check out Menopause Taylor. She is a gynecologist that specializes in hormones. Amazing!
Dr Barnard has some great insights for men and women
Well, some educated individuals who work in line with functional medicine say that there is no scientific proof of adrenal fatigue. That the hormonal imbalance depends often on other things. Suffice to say it is a complex issue, not well understood in general medicine and it needs systemic approach (IMHO).
@Bobbie Tuggboat Tru Dat! Lol
@Bobbie Tuggboat Well said, Bobbie. There is no shortage of different situations that might wipe out our energy nowadays.
I'm a neuro, and he's 100% correct that brainwave entrainment can occur by listening to music and clearing one's mind. There is some research into this occurring at different frequencies of sound, but I don't think the frequency matters as much as rhythmic breathing, clearing one's mind, and listening to slow sounds/ music. It's been done for thousands of years with Asian flute music, and I suspect with other music in African and Middle eastern cultures. If you want to try this, I recommend some of the channels here on UA-cam such as "Meditation & Healing" (I think that's the name) which overlays higher tones on top of slower base tones and uses binaural recording. Sit there with headphones, listen to the sound and clear your mind, breathing slowly, and within about 10 min you will feel other stimuli drop away, as if you're "tethered" by the top note. It's a unique experience and lowers blood pressure, relieves anxiety, raises testosterone, etc.
Thank you 🙏
Hey Guys that was great hearing you mention the DC scene - the 9:30 club - I also spent MANY a night there! DC was a fun scene way back when
Jennifer Meyer shout out to the dc scene and the guest went to my high school Langley too! Amazing
Yeah I think he misspoke about 40 Liters. That’s roughly 10 Gallons and a gallon weighs 8 lbs. but I’m still going to watch/listen to this.
Yeah not even 4 liters makes sense
Hey Rich, great video, keep your smoothies, just chew them as you drink them.It will take a bit longer, but the chewing action releases the digestive enzyme amylase so you will absorb all the nutrients of the smoothie and it will digest better, so no bloating or gas that some people experience with smoothies. Derek Simnett from Simnett nutrition touches on this topic, please interview him on your youtube videos. I think that will make for a very interesting and informative show. Thanks for all you do.
Great post, thanks for sharing!
Steel Kettlebell Club How do you chew a liquid?
Here’s a little trick caught up some celery and add it to your smoothie after you’ve already blended up the smoothie and that will give you something to chill it’s got a lot of fiber in it it’ll allow you to masticate the smoothie better and it kind of goes pretty much with anything it’s kind a has a neutral taste
Frank Critelli dear I despise the taste of celery worse than anything. It’s like number two on my top 10.
very great talk - fantastic :-)
Nice t-shirt, great album. ;)
Amazing knowledge.... Does he work with hormone optimization in women boosting estrogen! Rich, I must say this is my 2nd time watching your show. You get such intelligent, interesting and gorgeous men on your show. My 1st show was with Dr Huberman, wow! Anyway, thanks amazing shows. Looking forward to your next guest..
Thank you! 🖐🏻🤠🥕
interesting stuff 👌💪
Great podcast!
Concerning smoothies, I have bypassed the problem of too much processing of the ingredients by making Roughies, instead. If you must feel the need to chew your roughie then I believe you will have blended the correct texture.
I like it thanks for sharing!
if you need a coffee .... if you enjoy the coffee - that was a very good point !!!
2 x 40 litres is an obvious mistake, that's about 80 kg! And 3 months to recover from such a severe case of pneumonia is unbelievably fast, 6 months is more realistic. But these points aside, a super podcast to listen to. And yes indeed, joining forces, uniting against factory farming as it is now is common ground.
I'm pretty sure he meant to say 40mL thinking back on it. 40L doesn't make any sense at all.
@@airwilliam24 I’d say 4l is feasible
So im drinking a smoothie as they get into the smoothing conversation and now im like hold up lol but luckily i had all the ingredients in mines that mike uses
beet/banana/kale/berry/ginger/hemp seed/ chlorella or spirulina smoothy, last 6 years in the morning/lunch. feel good, mid 40s no gey hair, hair loss, my eyes went from brown to green to blue and sure takes a lot to run out of energy on bike rides or ski tour days. WFPB thats the way for sure
Cypriano Hi, I’m not here to hate. I am genuinely wondering what you did so that your eye colour changed. So how did you do it?
@@carbonosilicio1741 my only guess is the smoothies. Ive been doing them religiously foe 6years. Breakfast and lunch. Like 1.5 littres a day, 1500cals. People think in weird but feel god damn good . just fruit and vegetable smoothies, no peanut butter or protien powder or any of that processed stuff. When you look at chronometer, its just full of vitamins and nutriens.
I’m interested, could you list the amounts you use?
tanya marshall 1.5 litres of fruit and veg smoothie a day. 1500cals

Super interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I was wondering if you've spoken to anyone about the new nutritional - inflammation bubble product: CBD? I'd love to hear a professional's or scientists' opinion on the future of CBD as a health optimization product. Is it all fluff? Or is embracing hemp and CBD going to rock the planet? Thanks!
No CBD. Is safe and athletics can use it ..check Smith.bros ...World Champion boxer ..Callum Smith.....who has the Mohammed Ali Cup ....it has similar ingredients plus hemp ... /. To Siddhalepa..Ayurvedic balm I picked up in 🇱🇰 Sri Lanka....all natural..mixture/. and more.. you can make your own tincture up and it helps more , than NHS....prescription ....drugs.... and much cheaper.....
And effective.....
Good guy
45:30 conversion from ALA to EPA is that inefficient (less than 3% of it goes converted). Hence the need for « vegan » DHA, which actually means that fish oil is useful, as well as fatty fish consumption.
As usual, great stuff Rich!
It would be neat to see a session with Matthew Walker ("a scientist and professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on the impact of sleep on human health and disease. Previously, he was a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.") I have seen a few talks of his and found them to be interesting.
