Elms are exceptionally rare where I live - English elms are all sterile vegetative clones, making them particularly vulnerable to Dutch elm disease, so only a handful survive - I know of only one within twenty-five miles of my home. Seeing someone working with elm wood has been a treat.
I love how the gunmetal grey resin allows the colours of the spalted wood come to the fore.
Lots of our tree's here are under attack in one form or another, thanks for watching!
The natural wood grain and resin color, really make this piece pop.
Agreed, thanks!
Hi Jim, another beautiful pot. Have a good weekend.
Thanks 😊
Ha! Yes, even without any other identifying clues, the whole “oot and aboot” thing immediately gives you away as a Canadian. Thanks neighbor. Great work.
Lol, thanks!
That is completely and utterly stunning. Whoever bought it ended up with a work of art that will become an heirloom. Pieces like this never go out of fashion.
Agreed, thanks for watching!
I go down any number of a wide variety of UA-cam rabbit 🐰 holes. I’m glad I ventured to wood turning. I find it satisfying, and I’m amazed about the beautiful items made.
Awesome! Thank you!
Every one of your videos makes me say, "This is my favorite piece." This video is no exception. Now I have a new favorite piece of your work, until the next one, I guess! Keep up the great work!
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
Perfect Canadian accent and a Tim's cap on...
Thanks eh! 🇨🇦🇨🇦
Elm trees and Dutch Elm disease: You are fortunate in that New York State lost just about all of its Elms starting heavily in the 1950's and carried on throughout the 1960's into the early 70's when all the known elms were dead and gone. By-the-way, elm boards were used extensively for flooring in horse stalls as it resisted horse urine.
That makes sense, they smell the same, lol. Don’t see any large Elms in this area anymore. Thanks!
For some reason, that piece really wanted the gun metal. I think it was the antique look of the wood that made gun metal such a great choice. I wish I had the space for that hollowing rig - sure looks slick! Thanks Jim!
Thanks for watching!
Very nice. Like the one way hollower, makes it look so much easier. The Gunmetal gray was a perfect choice.
😎👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Mike!
The crotch pattern grain turned out looking incredible with the resin. Beautiful piece.
Thanks for watching!
One of my favorites. I particularly like how the gray resin stained the wood. Almost gave it a barn wood look. Fantastic job as always!
Thank you very much!
Dang it Jim you've done it again. Again again? I've lost track of how many times you've absolutely knocked it out of the park.
Thanks 😊
I'm going to repeat my self. Absolutely gorgeous hollow form. Love the pattern in the grain and resin. The resin looks like granite with it's sparkling.♥️♥️
That’s what I said to my wife last night. It totally looks like black granite, thanks!
the last shot showing the form up close.... I bet it is breathtaking in person because it's incredible on the video. I can't wait to see what you do next!!
Thanks!
I love the gunmetal color with this wood! The contrast of the colors really grabs your attention on this one. Amazing job, Jim! 💜
Thanks 😊
A sunrise bowl. It is Beautiful!!!!
Thanks 😊
Absolutely gorgeous. I love how the resin and wood work together so organically.
Thanks 😊
How did I miss this one when I was going through prior (to my subscription) vids?!? I love this! The crotch grain, the epoxy, the epoxy staining, everything works together so well!
Thank you very much!
That is one of the prettiest pieces you’ve made!! I love the way the resin soaked into the wood. Absolutely stunning,as always. Thank you so much for the video. Have a blessed week.
Thanks for watching!
Nice work, Jim. If you hadn't watched the video, you may not even realize that it started as two separate pieces of wood. The finish looks great! The shape is simple but elegant. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching!
Только очень талантливый человек может сделать из деревяшки произведение искусства. Здоровья вам и долгих лет жизни. Москва.
Thanks!
Mazel Tov, 55k subscribers! Woo!
The gunmetal color with this wood, hubbahubba. Really goes together. Envious of whoever got to adopt this beauty.
Thank you for the hint about the glide spray. Got a table saw and jointer that could use some love in a can. Have a good Canada Day Friday. I’m getting seriously mugged by the dentist Thursday, so looking forward to learning and being entertained by you Friday while I hide under the air conditioner…
Thanks for watching!
What a beauty, the shine is phenomenal. You do some great work buddy. Can't wait to see what you make next.
Thanks!
Every time I watch I want whatever you've you made. I love watching you do your work.
Thanks 😊
Most excellent piece my friend! This one really is a beauty. Never disappointed that's for sure. I loved the woodwork but since you've started working with resin it has really added a kick to it. They are equally beautiful.
Keep killin' it! Take care & God Bless!!!
Thank you very much!
Love the shape of this hollow form and the way the charcoal grey epoxy enhances the natural grain of the wood.
Thanks 😊
I found this channel yesterday and I've been kind of binging the vids since then. Your work is so amazing.
And wow, this piece is absolutely stunning! These resin stains really add a lot to it!
Welcome aboard! Thanks!
Designer epoxy.
Another beautiful piece...thank you. Glad to see that you are up and moving with your knee issue.
Thank you very much!
That is a beautiful hollow form! The wood is gorgeous and the grey compliments wood exceptionally well!
Totally bummed that you did not fight the mold 😒; oh well, maybe next time 😉🤪
Totally, lol. Thanks
the gunmetal grey looks great with the wood. Beautiful piece once again.
Thanks 😊
Stunning piece Jim. Love how the resin mixes with the wood and almost looks green in spots. Nice video my friend.
Thanks 😊
That is Elegant, and the mystery of the swirling grain draws one in. Wow.
Thanks!
Another inspiring video as it gives me hope that I can come close to your quality of piece and it gives me ideas of things to try in my own shop. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Wonderful! Thanks!
This turned out so gorgeous. Between the wood figuring, and the wood taking up the resin color. Its a truly fantabulous piece of art. Thank you for sharing with us.😊
My pleasure! Thanks
Love the result of inverting the two halves. I was at the dentist the other day and enquired about their old scalers, after some assurance from me that I wouldn't attempt home dentistry and a short wood turning explanation I came away with a bag of around 20 of them so thanks for that suggestion.
I noted that it appears you have a go jig and a separate no go jig. Why didn't you just cut the two notches from one piece of board and simply invert to check the second option?
It is on the same board, I just flip it around. Good luck cleaning teeth, lol. Thanks
Very nice shape and color. The pearl/metallic gray contrasts nicely with the natural wood.
Agreed, thanks 😊
Absolutely gorgeous. I love the wood grain patterns and how the resin swirls around them. As a very definite non-home-decorator, I wonder... how do people use these pieces in their homes? Simply as a stand-alone piece, or to hold things?
Works of art, thanks!
Really a beautiful piece, the dark resin soaked into the wood brought out the grain.
Agreed, thanks 😊
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Stay safe yourself Jim 🌞
Thanks!
What a tease. No mold release and you still didn't struggle getting it out of the bucket.
One's gotta go my way sometimes, lol. Thanks
Beautiful piece. Love the wood grain. One never really knows how it’s going to work out, and it takes an artist to find the beauty then make it shine 😊
Thank you very much!
Absolutely gorgeous. Anyone would be glad to own this. Your work is inspirational.
Thanks!
Wow, I think this is one of your most beautiful creations but then they are all beautiful.
Thanks!
Small but mighty...I am in love with this piece.
Thanks 😊
Awesome, wood grain and the combination of the gunmetal resin. Thank you for sharing your work with the world!
Thanks for watching!
Great videos. Proud to see Canada on the woodturning content map doing such a good job.
Thank you very much!
The epoxy complicated the wood beautifully. Great job.
Thanks 😊
Jim, you may be left handed, but your ambidextrous ability shows.
Love Your technique!❤
Thank you very much!
This is a cute vase. I would look great on my shelf! LOL
Thank you very much!
I love the undulating lines of this piece, Jim. I even like the staining.
Thanks!
Hi Jim glad to see the first use of the refrigerator was a success.
Worked great! Thanks!
This is one of my favourites.....just wow.....the tiger eye look to it is beautiful
Thank you very much!
Love watching you work. Like how you talk through what you are doing, even if I'm not a turner. I hope letting the ads play out helps your channel.
It certainly does! Thanks
Absolutely a nice piece. I can't wait for the Canada Day piece.
Thanks!
What a great way to start my Friday. Thanks Jim
Thanks for watching!
I grew up in Detroit and in the 1980s we lost every elm. It was so sad.
Yes, there beautiful trees. Thanks
Just love the colors of both the woodland resin.
Thanks 😊
Another beautiful piece. I didn't think I would like that gray pigment, but I really love it.
I was undecided too in the beginning! Thanks!
Dear Jim,

I hope the happy owner enjoys it for a long time!
Thanks 😊
Was able to see what a great piece you created Jim show in your final footage!!!
Thanks!
I would have thought that ring in the inside bottom of the vase was an intentional design choice before finding this channel. Never underestimate how clueless people can be as soon as they step out of their areas of interest 😂
Lol, thanks 😊
Absolutely gorgeous Jim.
Thanks!
Friday morning, coffee, Jim wailing on the bucket..perfect. All set for the day. That is a really nice piece today Jim. The epoxy colour mix works well with the Elm. Old wood gets a new look. The circle cutter is something that I will have to build for my band saw. The cutting jig is massive for the lathe. As always: stay safe and take care.
Thanks buddy, I really appreciate it!
Soothing and memorizing. Love your videos.
Thanks 😊
Now that’s awesome. Love the colors in the way they look
Thanks so much!
