Glad you touched on the "non-chaos as extra chaos" stuff as it's probably one of the least well-known ways to scale damage in the game. I wanted to try out a Trickster or Assassin EK build with Gloomfang this league with Harness the Void kinda like the popular ignite version but as a hit build instead. But I never even made it to maps lol.
Very good explaination. Was looking into this aswell yesterday because i needed a refresher before making some new build ideas. This is by far one of the most intresting mechanics in PoE! Love this kind of videos, learning the mechanics behind the game is very important to get better.
There are a few exceptions to Damage Taken As. There is "Damage Taken from hits" in most cases, but a couple of uniques just say X% of damage taken as; not specifying hits, and those work on DoT's.
I had been wondering what was the point of various 'you take #% of y damage as x damage' on things for a bit now and this video helped me finally understand. So, much appreciated for expanding my knowledge regarding that and more.
Great video as always, I Didn't know non-chaos as chaos mod is that strong. Can we have some MF and loot conversion mechanics next? Seems to be an interesting topic if all the god-touched mechanics survive from next league.
with archmage having such a huge lightning damage stat, wouldnt converting lightning into cold then into fire be much more powerful than converting physical damage? lightning is the damage source with the highest base damage after all :o
I found this out when I corrupted a poets pen with unholy might as the implicit on my kb corrupting fever champion. The 30% phys as extra chaos really pushed the build a lot since everything that build does is phys/bleed.
@@LostRocks it's phys dot but the bleed is a secondary damage, and a nice one at that. That's why most kb fever builds take the single bleed node on the left for the extra 15% bleed proc but the unholy might only effects the phys dot.
@@stevencrisp1373 enlighten me, how does extra chaos dmg increase your phys dot? Unholy might makes a difference because poets has decent physdmg and your kb itself dealt more hitdmg. So the physdot from cf had to "remove" less life before the pops happen.
Just watched palsterons review on it. Glad they backed off of the predatory monetization, looks super fun. I'm mostly playing brotato and overwatch 2 though at the moment, need some non arpg time.
A few Questions for you. If I have a mahuxotl's machination shield (which has divine flesh) and a lethal Pride jewel that gives me (Tempered by War ) I would take no Lighting or Cold damage of any type and just 50% of fire damage correct? If so do you know of any other ways to address the 50% of fire damage ? Ruby Flask 20% less damage etc....
With the Mahuxolt Shield + Tempered by War combo. You can only take 3 types of dmg: fire, chaos and phys. 50% of 'all elemental' dmg will be convert to fire and chaos. Both of which you can achieve 90% res. But your phys dmg taken is still being calculated nornally with armour, supression, block and evasion. Now there are ways to 100% convert phys dmg 'taken from HITS' to fire. But not 'all' phys dmg taken into fire. So you will still take phys DOT such as bleed & corrupted blood notmally.
@@calebnguyen4536 Thanks for the reply, I Understand about the chaos and phys damage still needing to be addressed. was just wondering if there was a way to address the 50% of fire damage like the cold and lightning. so all Element damages is avoided? meaning is there a way to take all remaining fire damage as chaos? I have not been able to find a way to do this.
@@THPoppy At the current state, no. Its really hard to come around elemental dmg converted to something else, on top of it being all sources not hits exclusive. The mahuxotl's + tempered by war combo combined with doryani's proto is one of the most busted mechanic atm imo.
does original sin convert your damage into chaos after all the increases and conversions are done or does it only look at what you got before conversions and then turn it into chaos?
Where/when do you get bled when you're fully converting phys? Typically bleed is based on the hit, if the hit is fully converted bleed never gets inflicted (as evidenced by vulnerability maps never inflict bleed when you're 100% converted to elemental)
is divine flesh still good? Im using a +2% max ele res +3 max chaos res shield and 2 small cluster setup to get to 90% chaos res, but it is too much investment.
Could you make an episode about All dmg can ignite/poison Scaling? It’s hella confusing for me. For example, Ek Ignite benefits from ‘Gain phy as Extra ele Dmg’ and ‘More Cold Dmg’ (as an Ignite build), meanwhile ‘More Spell Dmg’ does nothing on it. I guess it is what it is. I still don’t get the pattern. If spell Dmg does nothing on ignite cuz spell hits (ignite doesn’t), then why the hell ‘More Cold Dmg’ affects Ignite (Ignite is fire Dmg). I don’t understand the ‘order’ of those scaling factors.
@@subtractem Thanks for the help. One more question. Does the physical damage obtained from passive tree nodes and berserker ascendancy (for example 16% increased physical damage) also get converted?
It's great! Doesn't work with divine flesh because damage bypasses but generically it's incredible. I used it last league with a corrupted phys as chaos shield.

I'd love a guide on marks and curses, with additional curse options and what the hell doom is.

you actually need 101% because of some rounding issues

Do the cold conversion applies after "Lightning damage with non-critical strikes are lucky" calculations or before?

So if you go phys to lightning and Lightning to cold, elemental damage nodes give more benefit than only converting one type?
What's the maximum possible "damage taken as chaos"? If it exists, must be broken with CI no?

I did :) watch the damage over time video in the path of learning playlist
Why is damage conversion only in one direction?
It's to prevent infinite loops.
What will be the damage conversion if I use Hrimsorrow with 100% conversion to cold while using goddess scorned with 100% conversion to fire?
50% of each. It's normalized.
@@subtractem Thanks for the help. One more question. Does the physical damage obtained from passive tree nodes and berserker ascendancy (for example 16% increased physical damage) also get converted?
Would you be able to exploit a damage taken as chaos in a CI build or are there special caveats?
It's great! Doesn't work with divine flesh because damage bypasses but generically it's incredible. I used it last league with a corrupted phys as chaos shield.
It works, people used to use incandescent heart on ci builds.
Why can't convert non-phys to phys?! Not fair! :(
Ahh, good to know that a gem's conversion is locked in and only gained conversions are normalized.
