    The biggest issue I have is looking at everything. I think the problem stems from the fact that I only started playing 2 years ago. I know the value of mostly everything. But I get stuck on lots of items and read a lot of stuff, because I don’t know if I’ve missed something from all the previous iterations of the game, that could be potentially valuable. And I feel like a lot of guides currently are made with assumed knowledge of a lot of the previous stuff that happened in the game. Im trying really hard to break that habit. I also come from a casual console background until I could afford a PC, so I think it’s partly in my blood lol. Loved this video though sub, definitely is going to help me a lot. Thanks :)

    thanks, this is definitely useful. Before every league start, I re-do my filterblade from scratch using the very strict template as a starting point. But I end up showing poor stuff that's useful the first few days, and then just forget to re-tweak my filter throughout the league. I made about 10 divines yesterday, and if I'd watched this and pruned my filter before the session, it probably could have been double haha!

      It’s not for sure. However that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun. I’ve never had a ton of currency, a 60+divine build, or even killed Ubers, but I’ve done searching exarch, eater of worlds, too lazy for Maven, shaper and elder before. It just takes us a lot longer than those with more free time than they know what to do with. I would say you’re right, most gamers are casuals who have lives outside of the game. I don’t know many that can take a week off to play a game. They’d rather save it for family time. GGG has created a culture of no-lifing and unfortunately that’s their choice. If their content creators pushed more towards the average casual, aka play at a slower pace that a casual would likely play, the creator would likely lose subs and GGG may pay more attention.
      Long ass paragraph but In short I agree.

      Most of what [the person who isn't here anymore] said is just untrue and the opinion of uninformed negative sentiment without data. Skill and game knowledge are incredibly important to success in this game.

    Hey Subtractem. I am loving all of your recent videos! This one is going into my favorite videos.
    I still consider myself a beginner. Hopefully you can answer a few questions for me:
    - I'm fully specced into expedition and forcing it through cheap scarabs. Is it perfectly natural to spend much more time per map than the 2.5 minutes conservative baseline you showed?
    - For those who are still quite lagging in terms of progression this league (me!), would you recommend dropping down below T14s if it makes mapping much faster?

    • @subtractem
      @subtractem  Рік тому +5

      - Expedition definitely will add quite a bit. It is worth to reflect a bit on your approach to it though. For all of them quickly look for Logbooks. If not, for Rog/Gwennen I just spam V in a circle, double check that there's no mods you can't run, and kill them quickly. For Tujen/Dannig I put in a bit more more effort for quantity drops.
      - The tier of map is always a personal feeling based on your build. There's actually almost no difference between a T14 and T16 for just regular farming besides the ilvl of the items that drop, xp that you get, and some small other progression concerns. If you're just overall faster in T14's and just need loot/map progression there's really no downside besides not being able to use 4 voidstones.

    I'm happy that I figured out my leybinds fairly early on in playing PoE. Primary skill on R, secondary on E, primary/spammable movement skill on Q, secondary/blink movement skill on a mouse button. If I need more active skills/buffs they go on W, T, and right click. I personally have always hated the thought of having right click be my primary skill, it never felt natural or comfortable.

      I was going to edit this but I got a heart so now it's a reply!
      100% on only doing content you're specced for. Just today I decided to pull the trigger and unspec out of everything that isn't Alva, expeditions, altars, and the one lab node. Best decision I've made. I don't interact with rippy essences, no random oneshots from harby packs, no rituals to keep me in place for minutes for mediocre rewards. I'm bulk buying Alva sextants and spamming temples. I've only made one temple that doesn't have an equipment and/or gem double corrupt, and those that don't I just run myself and book it to the apex. Got a 1.3 div rarity string of servitude off that temple lol. But temples are consistent money every 4 maps, expeditions will give logbooks fairly often that are worth a bit, and you can skip the lab trials that don't award an improved offering. For those that do, they're maybe 2 minutes long that can get you an offering worth 40c to a divine. And of course constantly getting eldritch currency and working towards a nice 130-140c invitation

    Heylo! Imma follow up on the comment from the last video because.... reason? Idk, commenting is fun yo.
    I keep my lootfilter updated and customized, but I'm prlly gonna give it another look now (didn't know you could click on the generated sample loot in filterblade, that's kinda cool!). That said, I think my personal real issue is how much time it takes to pick up eldritch embers, which honestly are too valuable to leave on the ground. Kinda wish you could set up filters to take into account nearby items, definitely would like to see all essences when I kill an essence monster, it's just click spamming after all.
    I think it's important to mention that playing supper efficiently and stressfully going fast, is only annoying at first, after like 10 maps, it's gonna stop being stressful, and it's gonna become second nature. You may loose like 5-10% efficiency, but that's still an improvement over not doing things fast because it's annoying/scary/mentally blocking.
    As an update to the 5 minute comment from last time, I am rerolling to a stronger faster character, last one was meant to be a pseudo league start open palm IB anyways.
    Thanks for the video!

They keep getting one shotted and they can't facetank anything at all. This slows down the mapping a lot having to use multiple portals and moving slow+shooting ahead and off screen so the stuff does not instantly kill the character.
    It seems like a habit with builds people suggest that are focused on farming fast that they have no tank

Yet this Beginner's Guide has stuff in it that I'm not ready yet. I've still never done a T16 map. For me, since my goals are to learn more about the game I do things a bit differently than the advice in this vid would recommend: I play every mechanic to learn what it does, I identify stuff low-value items just to test my appraisal abilities. The lootfilter optimization 'workflow' is something I'm going to start doing right away though; even just reading 'sulphur flask' and pausing to reject it is a waste of time.

    I only started playing Poe recently and this kind of stuff is so overwhelming, it makes me question all my decisions haha, I literally do all these einhar missions randomely when I feel like them because they are good for crafting right? (Not that I know how to craft but maybe later I will?) I do my maps in like 5-10 minutes because my build right now can't really tank too hard so if I just flamedash into a pack of monsters and I get ccd I will just die. Honestly so far I'm just picking up all the stuff that looks cool, like unique items and orbs. To be able to run maps this fast you need a good build with good items which I don't yet so I just run the maps as fast as I can right now. The big issue for me is, I have no idea what to focus on... Mining? wtf is that syndicate board anyway? crafting? maps? heists? Honestly no idea...It's too overwhelming, I don't know what will earn me the most, because some content is also just very difficult if you got a shitty build that you're still optimizing

      Subtractem is usually very good at mentioning this - just do what you enjoy and progress at your own pace. Play the game the way that it is fun to you. The first few hundred hours you are gonna do a lot of "mistakes" or inefficiencies. But don't worry you'll learn things at your own pace and you will try out new content and craft new gear every now and then when a video inspires you to dive deeper. I still identify a lot of rares and like picking up all the stuff that looks cool.

    • @redfish337
      @redfish337 Рік тому +2

      Generally speaking, you want to pick 1-3 types of content you enjoy and turn most of the other stuff off.
      This is pretty much for everyone, including you.
      If you don't know what all the content even is, this will cause the content you allow to spawn to spawn very often, so you can see if you like it in the first place. If not, then you block it and try something else. Some stuff like heist will run more or less okay without putting points into on the atlas tree. Einhar will very much appreciate if you go get "Great Migration" in the upper left corner. Probably the biggest problem with Einhar (for you) is the most important results are essentially advanced crafting methods, which makes it not a very beginner friendly thing to focus on, even if you can itemize and sell them.
      If you want to run the syndicate board, then you generally want "Test of Loyalty" on the right side at the very least, and probably Effective Leadership (lower right) as well.
      The people basically 24/7 running a single type of content will have most if not all of the nodes for that content, but you still tend to want to have at least the more important ones when you start running it somewhat casually.
      Still, my main suggestion is again to just shut off most content with those 10 nodes near the start of the tree. Try 2 at a time until you get used to them.

    good points, except you didnt calculate how much time takes you to trade some currency. Like chromatics - if you want to roll some item earlier in league, you dont gonna buy 3000 to have it solved for rest of league (simply bcz at that point you would spend most of your currency for it)... so you buy 500.. and later on you buy another lets say 1500. but this trading alone can take like 5 minutes - open website, looking for seller (i personally think its very rude to whisper 20 people and wait who invite first), moving those c in stash, waiting till they move their chromes, then trade.... the trade time is kinda hidden value. Its not worth to pickup some currency you will never use, but if you know you will buy it later on, gotta cound with trading time too.
    Also one point with not killing all monsters - this pretty much applies ONLY if you got build that oneshot anything. Otherwise you can easily run into issue you get 15 monsters left, but only bcz they took two hits, not one, because they were rare monsters. And this way you can miss potentially god-touched, so those 15 may worth more than rest of 500 in like 10 maps.
