The first 50 second are 100% spot on! 99% of the BJJ videos are completely useless to anyone not already a black belt. They seem to be made for people that don't need them.
I saw a really good way to break guard that actually worked for me it was simple it worked on a blue belt only one I’ve seen that worked... knee under the but two hands breaking guard
Anonymous Girl mmmm... I actually meant u get both knees on ground and push them as far forward as u can...and take both your hands on their gi and shove forward and their guard will break.. I still use it.. I use it on people with higher belts.. I’m a 3 stripe white and I can use it on purple belts now.. I’m really small n it works for me more times than not... a random guy showed it to me at a open mat.. have not seen him since.. he was a brown belt from a city a few hours away.. but it works..oh and push with your back going in direction of their feet.. so two Knees as far under but as u can get... get two hands on their gi and push them forward as much as u can ... lean back towards their feet n u can start feeling their guard break... I mean a guy has to b insanely strong to not break guard or really damn crafty catching u cus u r not really in a bad position to get caught.. it’s on issue is getting swept... but it’s doubtful especially the first few times u try it.. most people don’t know wtf u r doing.. I hope it helps... it’s really really effective for me... I’m a little guy .. not real strong and I break guards with it a lot... I’m really good with it now also... I honestly get my knees under their by starting the roll on my knees and I just really start fucking heavily with their gi around their neck until I get my knees under because they tend to not notice what u r doing they focus on their gi .. because I act like I’m trying to get a gi choke... then get knees n raise up ... I usually do that with my head on their chest or leaned down...then I get my two grips around the top of rib cage.. and push with my knees and hands forward n lean backwards... and snap!!! N u still have the gi control to pin to the mat to begin your pass.. I honestly hope it helps.. it really changed the game for me.. I had trouble getting out of guards with big tall strong guys before n getting tapped if I couldn’t get out in time.. I’m really really good in scrambles so if I can even break it and not control it helps me a lot.. but my guard is really bad and if I get stuck in guard I’m really limited.. short legs... not flexible 😂
I was white belt 2 years blue belt 5 yrs and now a purple belt for 6 months. I'm 46. These beginner videos are great bc no matter how long you've been grappling you will always need these basic rules. Its always good to go back to basic. Thank you for the videos.
I just started BJJ a couple weeks ago and am loving it, however, your few White Belt vids is exactly what I needed to hear. Great tips, and now i feel a little less stupid for not knowing what the hell to do during the few times I rolled with someone. Start was pretty funny too. Well done, would love to see more vids!
I would like to take the time, to thank you. My 8 and 10 year old both, with an Autism diagnosis, have just started learning BJJ and the class is a pretty mixed class and the instructor has his hands full, so it has been a baptism of fire for both of them this video has really helped them understand what they should be doing when sparring starts. Thank you
The first 50 seconds are so painfully accurate. As a white belt I can confirm trying to find any realistic video to watch outside of live class is almost impossible.
I'm a new white belt and this video is absolutely spot on and exactly where I have been confused for about a month now. Thank you Charlie from the Plaza.
Charlie, I'm a white belt and after going to class I sometimes find that I still have questions about a few things (I'm sure it's normal). Your video helps me "fill in the blanks". It reinforces what my instructors are teaching me. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos and keep em' coming!!!
Thank you for this video. No more self-submissions from trying to submit someone else while I'm in their guard. This video really changed my mindset and upped my game. thank you!
Way to be more funny and more informative than 80% of BJJ vids out there, without even any fancy editing or production work. Just good instruction (on the basics for a change) that keeps it applicable, informative, and playful. Thanks.
30 seconds in and I paused it to laugh and comment. You hit the nail on the head about being new and encountering the complexity of the bjj. So nice to watch your vids and really get a chance to focus on the basics. Thanks!
Finally, someone puts it simply. Some things are so basic they almost forget to explain these things to white belts. On my way to class now. Thanks man!
Enjoyed?! This was the best beginner video I’ve seen out of hundreds. Liked and subscribed. Thank you for giving me a real thing to focus on as a beginner white belt!
You are awesome. I'm almost 50, restarting after 20 years...I wish I had been exposed differently. White belt was such a struggle. 'Learning' blue belt techniques too early, not being/having co-operative partners, going full blast, taking whatever works. I'm gonna be more sensible this time. Thank you! :)
Charlie, you the man! I just joined a gym a month ago and nobody really went over any basics with me. Just the bare minimums for line drills and occasional tips during rolling. A lot of that stuff is too complicated or advanced for a fresh white belt beginner but they don't want to start over because they have the regulars to think of and it wouldn't be fair to them. I love your simple takeaways and things to work on plus the sense of humor. Most of these guys on UA-cam take themselves so seriously haha.
Hahaha omg you're HILARIOUS! "You can't sign up for my special email list or mastermind, I don't have one" hahahaha. LOVE IT! Thank you for this awesome video, super helpful!!
Great advices for white belts conveyed with humor. Thanks a lot. Some videos on UA-cam are too complicated for beginners like me. Will try no.3 tonight in sparring.
Great video. We were doing this in our positional sparring this past weekend. I'm a one stripe white belt, 55 years old and training since December 2023. I was also told to develop my core if I wanted to je a gaurd player. I love the gaurd. This video really helped me. Again...Great video.
at first I was hesitant to watch the video because of his intro .. I was thinking this guy seems arrogant , making fun of other black belts videos , but man ! easy and simple tips that I can remember and USE straight away ! Thank you Charliefromtheplaza you have a new subscriber ! :)
Thank you!! So useful as a beginner, especially with all the overwhelming information out there. I wish more people focused more on the basics like this
Awesome vid! You nailed it! Everything you said & taught. I'm a white belt & I was searching for this perfect vid & it was hilarious LOL Please more I am now a subscriber. Thank you for great teaching.
First 50 seconds were hilarious as well! Thank you! It's true, I always feel like I missed the first day of class and I'm trying to understand long division without being able to count!
3 classes in BJJ. Super helpful. Also learned that person on bottom should keep hips up (bridge) to keep opponent further away. Also forces them to keep 1 hand pressing down on your hips. Great video, thanks. I feel more confident now.
I really appreciate your white belt videos. I am a second degree white belt and this helps me greatly. I am in a gym with a wide array of levels so fundamentals seem to take a LOOOONG time to learn. thank you.
Thanks for addressing these issues that plague all white belts. We need more insight into the mindset of more advanced practitioners, as we're usually stuck at "What the heck do I do from here?" The humor is a plus so, thanks for that.
haha, thanks guys, I had a lot of fun watching you vids, and also it was extremly useful for me as a white belt. Looking forward for your mastermind group :D:D
This is a great help. The most basic of basic . What I need as a white belt. People are showing you all sorts of crazy shit that you can’t use because you do t know this basic stuff
Solid! I just got my blue belt and I wish I saw this a couple of years ago when I started. I can’t wait to get back on the mat and try these guard tips!! Thank you!
THanKS! this is amazing, thanks. Just started Jiu Jitsu. No disrespect to my school, but Ive learned more already from your vids! than my first month of classes. Learning a lot in class, but because of time restrictions and different skill levels of students, there´s no time to give a complete overview of the basics exclusively to me. I receive it in parts here and there. This stuff is great, thanks for sharing the info!!
Hey, Charlie. Great video and very entertaining. Nice and straight forward and really helped. Just so happens this is exactly what we worked on today. As a very "green" white belt, I have all these techniques swimming in my head. I was able to remember your three points and it helped out a lot. And it helps to have great instructors as well. Thanks and keep it up.
Thanks for that. I took my first class last week and to say I didn't have an effin clue about what do is the understatement of the year ! I loved it though and the journey is going to be a great one of that I am sure.
as a brand new white belt, i thank you for this video. Most video's are about different submissions, when really i feel like somebody in my position should really be trying to defend.
Thank you so much for these videos, man. After being out of the game for almost three years with not a whole lot of consistent experience under my belt in the first place, I'm finding myself having to start from the bare bones basics again, and these have been perfect for that.
Thanks for the video I just started my BJJ training and the place I go to is mixed belts so as you said teaching different techniques that I really can't fully grasp because I don't have that base knowledge yet. My main goal has been to avoid getting tapped by the higher belts, If I do that, that's a win in my book but this was actually really good for giving me an idea of what do when I have someone in my guard and when I am in guard as far as simple basics.. Looking to progress as fast as possible and learning basics/fundamentals first vs the mixture of 1/3 technical 1/3 super technical and 1/3 basic level stuff.
Yo this is really good stuff for super beginners man. Awesome presentation and content. Brilliance in its simplicity (only what is necessary is included. no complications). Salute.
Thank you... As a white belt, everything goes blank when I'm in guard and I just sit there like a dead fish not knowing what to do. This was so helpful
So awesome. Fat 50 yo, have been to 5 classes and seen hours of video but nothing that was valuable to my skill set and experience. Love the Gracie Breakdown but for me to watch that is worthless from an education standpoint. THANK YOU CHARLIE. I was really starting to get discouraged from feeling overtaught. This is what I will concentrate on from now on.
This is great. After 5 months I came back and watched it again. it makes way more sense after I have been doing this a while. Very Simple, effective instruction. Thank you.
Im a white belt in real life but a 3rd degree black belt on UA-cam
Lol... nice one...
hahahahha indeeeeed
A master in View-Jitsu. Show me the way, Sensei!
lmao sameeee
Only a third? Slacker
The first 50 second are 100% spot on!
99% of the BJJ videos are completely useless to anyone not already a black belt.
They seem to be made for people that don't need them.
cosmosgato even if they are blk belts its low percentage crap

What belt are you now bro?

that first part was really funny, but so true. I was literally LOLing
Haha so was I 😂
“Grab my arm...the other arm!...watch closely, I’m going to break the wrist and walk away...break the wrist and walk away”.
Not that one, i mean the other arm (7u7)
Do you want a roundhouse to the face wearing these bad boys?!?!
BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!!
"AND THEN.... .... ...OPLATA"
😂🤣🤣
Dude I love the way you explained this!! I'm getting destroyed in my class because of my lack of knowledge.
Travis Brown still at it?
Do you still do BJJ ? what’s your belt ?
Wow... back here after 3 years, now blue belt 2nd grade, and i can say that this videos became te base of my learning. Oss.
I would like to take the time, to thank you. The first 50 seconds are so painfully accurate. As a white belt I can confirm trying to find any realistic video to watch outside of live class is almost impossible.
Love this. He's pretty straightforward and if you're at a low level that's what you need. No fancy stuff, just important tactics. Thanks
I'm a new white belt and this video is absolutely spot on and exactly where I have been confused for about a month now. Thank you Charlie from the Plaza.
This is fantastic for a 4-week newbie white belt. I appreciate the three take-aways at the end. Much appreciated.
Charlie, I'm a white belt and after going to class I sometimes find that I still have questions about a few things (I'm sure it's normal). Your video helps me "fill in the blanks". Exactly what I was looking for man. Nice job. The added humor made it even better.
Thank you for this video. No more self-submissions from trying to submit someone else while I'm in their guard. This video really changed my mindset and upped my game. thank you!

Exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. And that first example of what other BJJ videos look like to a beginner was hilarious! It was spot on.
Started BJJ yesterday, with almost no prior knowledge. Videos like this are perfect for me!
On the journey with you. Good luck.
I really like that you keep it simply and not too flashy. I'm going to keep watching in try to implement it. Thanks!
very rarely write comments. respect for this video.
The editing in the first minute is a masterpiece
30 seconds in and I paused it to laugh and comment. You hit the nail on the head about being new and encountering the complexity of the bjj. So nice to watch your vids and really get a chance to focus on the basics. Thanks!
I'm 6 years late, but this video helped me a lot. Helped me build fundamentals in guard tremendously.
Great Lesson! I really like how you taught it in terms of the underlying principles and key take aways. Thank you!
Finally, someone puts it simply. Some things are so basic they almost forget to explain these things to white belts. On my way to class now. Thanks man!
This guy's a great instructor. This should be required viewing for all white belts.
Enjoyed?! This was the best beginner video I’ve seen out of hundreds. Liked and subscribed. Thank you for giving me a real thing to focus on as a beginner white belt!
Hey Charlie. Just got on your channel after you mentioned it at Krav Con 2022. Love the content and will be going through the videos.

Lmao. I love the beginning of this video. You captured the feeling of being overwhelmed by the zillions of videos on the internet perfectly.
when he said “usually white belts will squeeze their legs are tight as possible to get him to tap, never really works” I felt that 😭🤣

Great tips! I just started practicing and I found myself many times without knowing what to do when I have them on my guard.

First week of BJJ in the bag, wish I'd have found this earlier. Good stuff, thank you brother.
This was the best white belt video I've ever seen. Thanks!
Hey, Charlie. Great video and very entertaining. Nice and straight forward and really helped. Just so happens this is exactly what we worked on today. Thanks for posting! Really helpful and also super entertaining. Please make more White Belt Basics videos!
Thanks man much appreciated, from a white belt.
Glad you like it.
Great tutorial. As a white Belt i needed this info. Thanks
This is so useful. Just did my first class and I didn’t even realize that the guy in guard was the one in an offensive position.
Those first 50 sec were awesome!!
The beginning was so accurate 😂
Thank you so much for these videos, man. After being out of the game for almost three years with not a whole lot of consistent experience under my belt in the first place, I'm finding myself having to start from the bare bones basics again, and these have been perfect for that.
I m soooo lucky that I have found you . i 've had my first session and i got completely destroyed .. but now i can't wait for my second session .
Thanks for the video I just started my BJJ training and the place I go to is mixed belts so as you said teaching different techniques that I really can't fully grasp because I don't have that base knowledge yet. This is gold.. this is what i need to know as a white belt. Most the videos on you tutube are for blue belt and up
Yo this is really good stuff for super beginners man. Awesome presentation and content. Brilliance in its simplicity (only what is necessary is included. no complications). Salute.
That intro was hilarious! Ahaha, great video, you've definitely helped me grasp some basic concepts...As a two week beginner I humbly thank you.
Thank you... As a white belt, everything goes blank when I'm in guard and I just sit there like a dead fish not knowing what to do. This was so helpful
Charlie if your school was closer I would be there! Awesome video I start my first class tomorrow...
Great video for a complete novice like myself. Love your sense of humour too!
Thank you.
First part had me cracking up so much 😂
I've been training BJJ a couple of weeks. This video has been super useful! I'm training Gi tomorrow so will put these tips into action.
Haha I’m a fresh white belt and I gotta say your videos are both informative and funny as shit, subscribed.
