    Despite the differences between the riddler here and his comic book counterpart, it’s not really him unless he’s shown to have a fragile ego while being prone to emotional breakdowns anytime he’s proven wrong. Paul dano nailed this perfectly in this scene.

      So true
      I, like many people, was so used to how the villain with the plan had a calm personality and even if he fails he's not breaking down.. this reminded me that he's eventually a sick person first and foremost. So he would most likely react that way if proven wrong or failed

      Sure this portrayal in particular is a bit different than what we're used to but I think the spirit/core of the Riddler's character is still very much intact. A man who may come off at first like a calculating, intelligent menace who's two steps ahead, but is revealed to be a pathetic, demented loser behind all the puzzles and theatrics once you peel back the question mark-christened curtain.

    Anyone who thinks that Riddler is overacting here has never read a comic featuring The Riddler. Majority of Batman stories involving Riddler have Riddler thinking he's smarter than Batman only to always be thwarted, the idea that he isn't the smartest man in the room compared to Batman eats him up from the inside and that's exactly what this scene demonstrates.

    • @tonts5329
      @tonts5329 Рік тому +108

      Yeah that was also how the Riddler was portrayed in the Arkham Games, he's always trying to be the intellectual superior to both Batman and the other criminals. You get to see some of that in Arkham City with his interview logs with Hugo Strange.

    For those who believe that Riddler knows Batman's Identity. You have to take in both Bruce Wayne and his background. Bruce being batman would mean that Riddler was beaten by a "Rich Jackass" who had life handed to him on a golden platter. He "Can't" believe that Bruce Wayne is Batman. "He's the only one we didnt get" + "we've been doing this together" = he believes they are partners working together on these murders. The subtleties of that are SO good!

Everything isn’t “perfected” but it has a distinct style that leaves the door open for endless stories in this Batman world. Matt Reeves’s wisely started the story in the early days but imagine his Batman(Robert Pattinson) in his later years with the mobsters & lunatics fully realized… The Batman skyrocketed into being one of the best Batman content.

    The finally of this clip, when The Riddlers final note in the tune falls into place (unisone with the drone in the backgrund)... the best part of the whole movie, musically!

    Paul Dano was able to hit those vocal notes after taking voice and piano lessons to play the great Brian Wilson in ''Love & Mercy'' an excellent film.
