Thank you for a good video on replacing a garbage disposal unit. One thing to note in this video. When wiring the cord to the disposal unit it does matter which disposal wire connects to which cord wire. On the cord wire "jacket" one side has a rib or a stripe. The corresponding wire is to be connected to the white wire in the disposal. This assures the neutral and hot wires are wired correctly internally to the motor. Although the unit will operate, either way, this has to do with internal electrical insulation for personal safety. Thanks again from a retired union electrician.

Just completed an install thanks to you! You are awesome. For anyone else watching, this is the best tutorial for installing a garbage disposal. Also, the screws/nuts into the drain pipe are 10mm. I had to use a 1/4 socket and ratchet to break them loose.
@@ThatFixItGuy my garbage disposal was under the sink for quite a while. We have only been in the house for 5 years but it was rusted solid. That was the only way I could disconnect the pipe.

Hello, great easy to follow, informative garbage disposal replacement tutorial. At 9:45 in the video you say it doesn't matter which way you wire. The cord you are using has 2 black wires, one had ridges, the other is smooth. The wire with ridges is the "hot" and should be connected to the colored or striped wire in the disposal. The smooth is the "neutral" and is connected to the white wire. Incorrect wiring may cause an unsafe condition.

I have an 8 month old badger 5 XL garbage disposal. It started leaking from the top, so I started watching videos to figure out how to fix it. I bought a new flange kit and will I’m use my garbage disposal I currently have. All the videos that I watched showed me how to replace keeping the same flange, but never showed me how to remove the flange. I was very frustrated until I found your video. Your video was short, to the point and left nothing out. I learned how to not only remove the flange, but how to install it and use some tools that no one else showed me. I am 61 year old female with some hand injuries, so I don’t have a lot of strength. But your video I didn’t even need a lot of strength as nothing was difficult. I did what it said, and I’m going to finish the installation now. Thank you for providing such a good instructional video

Before you begin to remove old unit it is a good idea to FIRST PRESS THE RED CIRCUIT BREAKER on the bottom of the garbage disposal. Don't ask me how I know.

Hey brother, thanks for the channel locks locking tip. The other video I watched to install my disposal didn't mention that. So your video just popped up after my install and I was gonna click it off since I'd completed the job but thought, what the hell, I'll watch another video and I'm glad I did! I used my channel locks and got that puppy locked in!

Thank you. I've never changed a garbage disposal until today. I'm fairly handy but your video probably saved me hours of aggravating trial and error. Quite honestly I only needed to watch up to the point where you showed how to disconnect the quick connect. Had the job done in less than an hour and most of that was getting things to line up.

I did have to get an electrician to come install an outlet before hand because I wasn’t super comfortable trying to hardwire something myself. I got the disposal on sale so I still saved money doing it myself even with cost of electrician. I watched your video several times and then I followed along with your video while I was installing. Excellent video. Very easy to understand. My case was a replacement of an existing disposal. Thanks to gravity the old one came out quite quickly. Working on my back in 100 year old home, cramped quarters, I called in my neighbor for another set of hands to hold the drain with plumbers putty to not move. Got what we thought was all tightened up and connected. Ran the unit and some water. Rewarded my neighbor and sent him home. About an hour letter I ran some water and there is a pretty healthy leak right under the drain piece mentioned about. I did a double take and made sure the ring was closed as far as I could make it as well as the three screws. No luck. Called the Plumber. He will be here between noon and 5PM Monday the 15th. Again, great video. I will update as to what I did wrong. I look forward to your future videos. The Plumber just left. I mentioned this video after he tried several things to stop the flow. I told him I spread the ring. He pulled it apart to find that I was the cause of the leak. Too much spread so he compressed it. I swear I only spread it enough to open up and touch the other end. That's my story and I am sticking to it. Again Excellent video!!!!
Thank you Mr plumber I learned a lot from your video right now. I am learning how to do this for the first time because I'm on my own. I am doing all my own house maintenance. I am remodeling the bathroom, changing out the toilet, fixing the shower wall and installing a sink. I got a lot of projects going on. I'm also laying down wooden flooring in my dining room and some in my bedrooms. I am redoing the kitchen sink installing garbage disposal and putting in a dishwasher as I was removing the sink I came across a little bit of water damage where the sink was placed due to a leak. So I got a few projects going on and I am learning a lot by watching these UA-cam videos and reading home building books by the Home Depot and so on. I also like to talk to people who have experience in these fields it's very helpful.

First time doing this, bought the Insinkerator Badger 900 at Home Depot, along with cord----and watch his video a couple times.....an hour and a half tops and it was switched out----had the tools, just needed a small can of plumber's putty. FYI---Home Depot install vendor wanted...wait for it---$469.00 to install!!!! This is a definite DIY!

@@ThatFixItGuy Done, and Done! It worked out perfectly. It was a bit tricky to get the actual disposal twisted and affixed to the drain mount or whatever... but, once I got it, it was a piece of cake.
This is a very good detailed install video. I watched this just because and never knew about that tab needing to touch to be properly tightened. Learned something there.
Very helpful video. The toughest part for me was lifting the new disposal with one hand, keeping it flush, while turning the bracket with my other hand. It took a few attempts to have all 3 guides catch the notches.
I totally get that. Can be a difficult process. So glad you were able to get it and do this yourself. I was thinking of maybe doing a video with use one a car Jack to help with that part of the process.
This video demonstrates what is best about UA-cam. I’m a pretty handy person but did not know how to do this. I watched the video drove to the hardware store got what I needed and got it done. You’re a rockstar. Please keep making videos👍

I have an 8 month old badger 5 XL garbage disposal. It started leaking from the top, so I started watching videos to figure out how to fix it. I bought a new flange kit and will I’m use my garbage disposal I currently have. All the videos that I watched showed me how to replace keeping the same flange, but never showed me how to remove the flange. I was very frustrated until I found your video. Your video was short, to the point and left nothing out. I learned how to not only remove the flange, but how to install it and use some tools that no one else showed me. I am 61 year old female with some hand injuries, so I don’t have a lot of strength. But your video I didn’t even need a lot of strength as nothing was difficult. I did what it said, and I’m going to finish the installation now. Thank you for providing such a good instructional video

I'm a female, from the New York City. My sink was clogged and I fix it. Once I connected the pipes. My garbage disposal was leaking in the bottom. I watch about 5 video on you tube. If you are not hooking up a dishwasher you do not need to remove the knockout plug.

Before you begin to remove old unit it is a good idea to FIRST PRESS THE RED CIRCUIT BREAKER on the bottom of the garbage disposal. Don't ask me how I know.
Did a jammed disposal end up being your problem? And hitting the red reset started it again.

Hey brother, thanks for the channel locks locking tip. The other video I watched to install my disposal didn't mention that. So your video just popped up after my install and I was gonna click it off since I'd completed the job but thought, what the hell, I'll watch another video and I'm glad I did! I used my channel locks and got that puppy locked in!
I have seen many not locked in place and cause damage and early replacement. Glad this helped.

Thank you. I've never changed a garbage disposal until today. I'm fairly handy but your video probably saved me hours of aggravating trial and error. Quite honestly I only needed to watch up to the point where you showed how to disconnect the quick connect. Had the job done in less than an hour and most of that was getting things to line up.

@@ThatFixItGuy it went well. It only took about ten minutes to do. I did have to get an electrician to come install an outlet before hand because I wasn’t super comfortable trying to hardwire something myself. I got the disposal on sale so I still saved money doing it myself even with cost of electrician.

Excellent video. Very easy to understand. My case was a replacement of an existing disposal. Thanks to gravity the old one came out quite quickly. Working on my back in 100 year old home, cramped quarters, I called in my neighbor for another set of hands to hold the drain with plumbers putty to not move. Got what we thought was all tightened up and connected. Ran the unit and some water. Rewarded my neighbor and sent him home. About an hour letter I ran some water and there is a pretty healthy leak right under the drain piece mentioned about. I did a double take and made sure the ring was closed as far as I could make it as well as the three screws. No luck. Called the Plumber. He will be here between noon and 5PM Monday the 15th. Again, great video. I will update as to what I did wrong. I look forward to your future videos. The Plumber just left. I mentioned this video after he tried several things to stop the flow. I told him I spread the ring. He pulled it apart to find that I was the cause of the leak. Too much spread so he compressed it. I swear I only spread it enough to open up and touch the other end. That's my story and I am sticking to it. Again Excellent video!!!!

Thank you Mr plumber I learned a lot from your video right now. I am learning how to do this for the first time because I'm on my own. I am doing all my own house maintenance. I am remodeling the bathroom, changing out the toilet, fixing the shower wall and installing a sink. I got a lot of projects going on. I'm also laying down wooden flooring in my dining room and some in my bedrooms. I am redoing the kitchen sink installing garbage disposal and putting in a dishwasher as I was removing the sink I came across a little bit of water damage where the sink was placed due to a leak. So I got a few projects going on and I am learning a lot by watching these UA-cam videos and reading home building books by the Home Depot and so on. I also like to talk to people who have experience in these fields it's very helpful.

First time doing this, bought the Insinkerator Badger 900 at Home Depot, along with cord----and watch his video a couple times.....an hour and a half tops and it was switched out----had the tools, just needed a small can of plumber's putty. FYI---Home Depot install vendor wanted...wait for it---$469.00 to install!!!! This is a definite DIY!

This is a very good detailed install video. I watched this just because and never knew about that tab needing to touch to be properly tightened. Learned something there.
Very helpful video. The toughest part for me was lifting the new disposal with one hand, keeping it flush, while turning the bracket with my other hand. It took a few attempts to have all 3 guides catch the notches.
I totally get that. Can be a difficult process. So glad you were able to get it and do this yourself.
I was thinking of maybe doing a video with use one a car Jack to help with that part of the process.
