Alright, I have a question. I grabbed a Tupperware bowl thing to catch the water, but according to my wife, that was her "good Tupperware", what do I do next?
I don't do this often. But you did a fantastic job. Extremely articulate, you didn't repeat yourself a thousand times; very clear and concise. You pointed out all the important stuff. Thank you.
I echo the sentiments of the folks below: Clear instruction, Not a lot of "When I work on garbage disposals, It reminds me of my childhood winters in Maine" talk. Clear instructions. Clear video. I went and replaced my dads disposal and have never done one before, and it went perfectly thanks to this vid. THANK YOU.
Thank you. I’m a single mom, and I followed your great instructions and did it quickly and without any issues. You saved me a service call and $.
Plumber? Scheduling? Labor fee? Nothing doing! You saved me! Everything about this video gave me the confidence to install my own. I had the old one out and the new one in within just a few minutes thanks to this. Thank you for every bit of detail you provided!
You should make videos on everything. Near perfection on everything from camera angles, to pace, to details. Very helpful stuff my guy
Dude, you have no idea how helpful your video is. Fast-rewind to right before Halloween. I bought a dish rack for over the sink, and I started to do dishes with a passion. Ten minutes later I see a yellow stream of water running out from under the sink. It wasn't a pipe or two. The whole connect into the disposal had rotted out.
Fast forward to me finding your video, and I didn't call the plumber .. instead I went to Lowe's and bought at Garbage Disposal (With a power cord!) a bunch of p-traps and gaskets ... and I had the thing fixed!
I didn't even know how to take out a garbage disposal before looking at your video. Keep making good videos man.
I'm the least handy man on the planet. Thanks to your video I had my new garbage disposal installed in under an hour. Thank you.
Your crystal clear instructions, the way you speak and the 11-min time it takes to replace the disposal are terrific. Watching your video is like an easy stroll in the park - Thank you kindly
Super helpful! I watched before I even went to pick up a new disposal, and was able to make sense of what the options were in store. The printed instructions were intimidating, but the video explained things so well I was able to replace it all on my own.
Finally built up the courage to replace my garbage disposal. This video helped me and my son get it done. Thank you very much!!
God bless you! This gave me the confidence to do it myself, instead of needing to wait 5-6 days to pay a plumber $500 (some wanted $900 just for labor)
Wow! $500-900? Just for labor? 😮 that's so greedy. I think I'll be able to do this, I need to replace mine. The video is very clear
I cannot thank you enough for this video. This morning I swapped my 12 year old Insinkerator that stopped working with a new model. Your advice on not forgetting to pop out the dishwasher tab saved my butt, as well as the tip to use stacking Tupperware (I used two empty shoe boxes). Excellent video!
I currently have a jammed 1/2 HP Waste King garbage disposal that hums for 5 seconds or so and trips the red reset button. I know most disposals have the opening underneath to “unclog” disposals but this brand does not have that. Any other suggestions before I buy a new one? Thanks
@@champ6295"Clog" generally means something in a drain that won't let water through. What you're dealing with is a jam. The Waste King website's support page has FAQs on diagnosing and dealing with disposal jams, or you could locate the model number on your disposal and do something like one of the following web searches:
jammed waste king disposal __
clear jam waste king ____
troubleshoot disposal waste king ____
where the blank is filled with your unit's model number. Including the model number on a search like this is always a good idea: fifty years ago, one standard tool for dislodging a disposal jam was a two-foot length of wooden broom handle, applied with some force to make the stuck flywheel turn, but newer models may demand a less unsubtle approach.
Excellent video - i even used my exact same yellow 1970's Tupperware bowl to support the disposal when I removed and installed -- perfect! All your instructions were spot on -- thank you!
Even though this is a 2 year old video it was very help to watch prior to replacing our 25 years old in sink erator with a new one. Very useful video that is to the point, without unnecessary fluff. 👍🏻
This was so helpful. Didn't have to pay someone to install for me. You got to the point & didn't chat just to add time to the video...perfect! Thank you.
Thank you for explaining that rubber seal to connect the king. I spent near 1hr trying to figure what I did wrong.
Wish I saw this video before. The unit fell right on top of skittles, my child’s cat. Luckily I upgraded to the 1HP motor and was able to grind up her remains before the children found out. We just told them the cat ran away. Fantastic disposal, cut through bones like butter. Ty
Thanks Nils! I've never done this before, but your video made it easy for me to understand. The whole project took less than an hour! No leaks!
You’re going to save me a stack of cash!! Thank you for the amazing info! This is so DOABLE 🙌
Thanks! I was able to replace my garbage disposal after watching this video. Great job!
You’ve done such a good job with this video. No excess yammering, no loud music, right to the point, organized, with good visuals.
You’ve accompanied a lot of viewers while they’ve changed out their disposals; You were under the sink with me on my iPad. 😄
Thank you very much for your awesome explanation! Helped me a great deal to remove my disposal after a glass shattered in mine. Pulled apart and put back together due to your video!
very helpful. I just replaced my disposal and this definitely helped me move through it easily. The points about wiring it up and attaching the outlet pipe before installing, and remembering to knock out the dishwasher plug were all the kinds of tips that make life easier.
Excellent video. 10/10. Changed mine in 20min. 0 problems.
Just replaced my disposal with the exact same model I removed, an Badger 5, corded. I was able to follow the tutorial here and had new disposal installed in about an hour. My struggle was just with the angle of my pipe work. The tutorial was a great help and easy to follow start to finish.
First time swaping a disposal and this video was a huge help, thank you.
One of the best DIY videos I have ever watched!
10 out of 10 stars. I chose the 1/2 hp Waste King...followed your instructions step by step, perfect, thank you, took me about an hour. I had to cut a bit (1.5") off of the new drain pipe coming out of the new disposal so it would fit in the sink drain pipe, but beyond that, no issues, thanks again🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Super helpful video! The step by step instructions made this process easy to understand and it was actually less complicated than I thought. Appreciated all the extra tips as well. Thank you Nils!
Thank you so much for being so "to the point". Job done first time, pretty quickly. Other videos take over an hour and they spend more time talking and creating hot air so they can get adverts on their videos. You rock. This was awesome and saved me so so much time.
So happy to hear you successfully switched yours out! Thanks for the kinds words as well. My hats off to ya!
Thank you! As a single mom this helped us switch ours. It was the same brand so it was a lot faster. Thanks and God bless.
This was a helpful video. Having never replaced one before, we were able to replace our garage disposal late in the night and were confident we did it right. We followed along
I had so much fun watching your video that I decided to replace my working unit with a new one! Thanks for the tutorial.
You are the man! I appreciate this video so much. I had to replace my gasket also. Sink runs so smooth now.
Great video! Thank you for the step by step process! Truly appreciate
Thank you for doing this video. I need to replace mine, and I’m so glad I watched this before doing it.
Awesome, helpful demonstration with no annoying distractions, straight to the point, thank you!!
This was a good refresher, as it's a task I am familiar with but your video pointed out some good tips before replacing my son's garbage disposer in his condo.
Thank you!! Watching this step by step instructions helped me tremendously to remove and install my garage disposal. Appreciate the walkthrough.
My old Insinkerator was stuck on so hard from the builders from 13 years ago...took nearly 10 minutes of prying to finally get it loose. Thanks for this very informative video. My new Waste King went on super easy.
This was SO helpful. I was able to go to the hard where store and get what i needed and change it out with out calling a plumber. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Very clear, thorough and simple! Thank you!
Thanks so much for this. It gave me the confidence to replace my disposal today and it was done with ease.
Very helpful! Saved me a good $200-$300 easy!!!
Exactly what I was looking for. My new Waste King 1/2 hp was compatible with the old Whirlaway 191 I had so I didn't have to replace the main connector. Thank you!
Great video! I didn’t have any Tupperware, so I used a 2x4 and my car jack.
You saved me a ton of time and effort. Thank you.
Just had to change mine this weekend and this video was extremely helpful. Thank you so much!
Installed mine. Thanks chief 💵
Thanks for making it so easy to understand! Awesome video!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you sir!!!
Thank you for the plumbers putty tip, super helpful...
Awesome video! I was putting off doing this, but your video made it so simple. Thank You! 😁
Wonderful presentation; thank you for taking the time to share you knowledge.
Well done and learned quite a bit. Good camera work too.
This was awesome. Great work man!! Thank you
Thanks for the video, I followed your instructions, and it was a breeze, thank you!
Thanks for the video.. it was really helpful… I did have to do some different adjustments because the garbage disposal was different than the one shown in the video… over all really good thanks
Thanks!! You are amazing! This was the best tutorial I’ve seen!!
Just replaced my dripping disposal thanks to this video! Thanks!
Hey Nils! Thanks for the great video. I was able to replace my current garbage disposal without swearing very much thanks to you. 😀
excellent tutorial, every DIY should be like this one!
Really helpful. Was able to replace my Garbage disposal without having to call/pay a plumber. 😊
Thanks for the great video!! Was able to replace my old disposer no problem!
Great video! I was able to remove our broken one and replace with a new one in less than an hour!
simple and easy, thank you very much!
Thank you for this video! Excellent tips!!
Good information. When I am putting rubber to metal or rubber to rubber, I spray a bit of silicone spray to make everything slide together without the problem of bunching of the pieces.
Thank you so much! I just watched this and was able to properly change my disposal 🙏🏻
Thank you, this was very helpful to know what to expect. I would have added that many garbage disposals come without a power cord which I discovered the hard way after I installed it. Yes, of course, it was stupid of me not to catch that but I had a lot on my mind at the time like a husband with early signs of dementia trying to help :(. Since it took me about 45 min. to install, I decided to install the power cord without removing and having to reinstall. NOT something I would recommend! But, I did it after much frustration.
Very good instructions. Gives me the confidence to do this myself. Didn't seem like it would be too hard, but still good to know.
Also, did you notice the broken ring while editing the video?
Fantastic video! Thank you for making this more accessible!!!!
Very helpful and clear instructions.
Very good video, very helpful! Thank you very much!
Thank you! Turned four hours into one!
Thanks for the help! I just installed mine as well with you every step of the way!
My disposals been out for MONTHS, I decided to see if it was something I could do myself. Someone said said push the reset button on bottom and take Allen wrench to turn it. I'll be damned, it worked!! I was ready to replace it, so happy I looked you up
Well I think is the most clear instruction and could see all the steps, thank you! HOWEVER, when using '70’s Tupperware was mentioned, well (arms crossed, tapping toe)I'm going to have to think about this...😂
Excellent video, thanks for your help
Easy to follow video! Thank you!
Very simple instructions.
Awesome
Nice tutorial, this helped me to learn how to do this without having to spend a lot 11:52 of money on a plumber (who may not do a good job anyway and overcharge me too). Thank u!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. This was clear and incredibly helpful. I’m off to the store to replace my own. I’m glad I can be confident going into it thanks for this video.
Follow up - Finished the project with ease, felt informed about quality when buying. Thanks again.
Great video! I replaced mine a few years ago and I'm going to do my mom's tomorrow. I saw the plumbers putty under my sink and forgot what it was for 😂
Thank you very much. Extremely helpful and I never thought something like this was so simple. Took me a matter of 30 minutes and some awkward positions. But I got it done and saved $200 a plumber was telling me he’d charge to install a personally bought disposal.
Thanks! Just make sure you put in the big rubber washer when reattaching the drain pipe to the garbage disposal.
Plan on changing my disposal this weekend 😬😬👍
Excellent...the rubber gasket at the disposal connection was a surprise...cant seat it if it's positioned to high
Great video, just as a word to keep in mind, based on electrical code that receptacle under the sink needs to be GFCI protected either by being a GFCI receptacle (which that one in the video isn’t) or the circuit breaker feeding the disposal needs to be a GFCI breaker to protect the regular receptacle. Cheers
I realize your comment is from two years ago, however it is wrong, if you put a garbage disposal on a GFI most likely it will trip just about everything you turn it on. It just needs to be on a separate circuit with the proper amperage rating.
Most garbage disposals are on the same GFCI breaker as the one next to the sink depending on the year the home was built and municipality. Newer GFCIs are less prone to trip from high amp spikes when starting electric motors. Prior home inspector.
Thanks for the cool vid! All I needed to know about the disposal was using that plumbers putty in which I had no idea. The steps for removal were very helpful too as I now know that I took it off right....lol. 👍😎A+
I'm at wits end. I can't get a plumber to come out as far as I live. I am 68, and my adult niece lives with me. I feel I can probably do this after watching your excellent instructions! Thanks!
Thank you for the excellent video. This certainly beats the video made by Home Depot. I am surprised that it has only 8.5K views. I will subscribe to your channel.
Like your channel n showed specific areas that I couldn't see on other videos
Very good presentation sir, bravo!!
Thank you for the helpful video.
Thanks. Excellent video 👏
Thank you for the great lessons :)
Very helpful. Thank you.
First time replacing a disposal. Made it about 5 mins into the video, and was able to complete installation within 15 mins, thanks to your clear instructions and perfect visuals. Thanks for this video my good man.
Frankie- I'm a girl- ok, old lady--
Do you think i can do this???
@@lindagayler6787Absolutely, make aure u have a big enough bowl to catch the water and make sure u detach the water connections and power
@@damien5613 Thank you. Any advice on disposals? There are so many to choose from. I'm thinking to stay with the same brand- which is an Insinkerator, but with a long warranty, maybe 3/4 hp for medium jobs? ( i don't put bones or potatoe peels in disposal)
