My daughter's garbage disposal stopped working months ago, and the replacement she purchased has been sitting in the garage. Although I have completed many DIY projects, I thought this one was out of my league. Not anymore! Thanks for making what I thought was impossible possible.
A lot of other tutorials have me second guessing if I need other things to install. This video made me realize I have everything I need and don't need to buy more pipe
My old garbage disposal stared leaking and this video saved my Sunday. Quick trip to Home Depot for a new unit, installed it, and now good to go. Thank You
This was super helpful, especially since I didn't have a garbage disposal to start with, and almost all the other tutorials I have found assume you already have piping in place!
Thank you. I started as helping someone drive and I got bored and started getting out the van and now the boss is paying me an extra $7 dollars per hour after 6 months. This a great trade and you learn from many; pros & cons.
Just a trick of the trade I found easy to make cuts for soft plastic pipe like these for the p-traps is using your CPVC ratcheting cutters. It makes clean cuts with no burred ends.
I am a female watching a ton of videos about this and I find it amusing how many men mention to “line up the logo”. They won’t notice your hair color change but they notice the markings on the sink- lol:)
This is my exact setup in a basement kitchen that did not previously have a garbage disposal. I was curious how to handle the P-trap, this was very informative and helpful! I'm going to go for it now instead of hiring someone, will let you know how it goes :)
Awesome work. Thanks for sharing with us. I just have a question. Why, after installing the garbage disposal, the dishwasher doesn't get water. Thank you
Thank you so much! Great added information, especially why the dip in the PVC pipe is needed to catch water to stop sewer gas from coming in! Other videos could have easily left that out but will be super beneficial for my home as I do this project! And even the little note about why there is no slip washer when the two pbcs come together bc it has that built in one! Really appreciate it! I’m subscribing and will be using your videos first any time I’m doing anything!
Nice video man, super informative, thumbs up and subbed, especially hearing that awesome Celtic music at the ending, I’m a fellow Irish American so that was icing on the cake!
Hey guys, so I am living in Spain, but from the US. Here it is VERY seldom they install garbage disposals and don't have much experience in it it seems. We redid our kitchen and had an undermount sink installed. Since it seems our undermount sink is solely installed with a type of adhesive (no additional mounting brackets), we had concerns about the plans we had made for them to install a garbage disposal (due to vibration and such) and ultimately decided not to do it. (as of today) The whole situation seems weird, but how could we have resolved this better? It sort've sucked our plans came through, but at the same time, I don't want to have our sink fall into our cabinet over time. LOL.
If Im replacing my sink but reinstalling the same garbage disposal unit, do I need to find a new flange or drain part? The sink came with a drain but it doesn’t look compatible for a disposal?
Do you only apply the plumbers putty underneath the sink flange? Is that enough to prevent leaks or can I put some around the space between the sink and the lower flange like 3:45? Also, are you suppose to let the putty dry before use?
Should clamp or staple the electrical cord to the wall for the future. If that thing ever starts to leak, which they do quite frequently, your cable is going to be exposed to the water. Yeah it's got an insulator but a small clamp will take 2 extra minutes and cost 37 cents.
I’m actually installing that exact garbage disposal in my basement haha my sink looks similar to that too, it’s an under mount but I too mounted it😏 no one can stop me!
The one thing that you left out is how you connected to the electric. Was the electric socket under the sink already switched? The one thing that you left out is how you connected to the electric. Was the electric socket under the sink already switched?
If you plugged it into an outlet under the sink, and the outlet is working, check to see if the disposal has a reset button. Do a process of elimination investigation and let us know how it turns out.
you should be using a proper tool made by ridgid, sold online or homedepot, is to cut tubular p material like the one being used, is a small light tool, not a power tool, it gives you a clean straight cut, beveled without burs, and risk free. the tool is like 15 bucks but it works on 1.25 or 1.5" tubular p drain, not pvc.
just a question, granted it has a pre installed power cord, was the plug in on a switch or no... because what if you dont have a switch, i take it you just have to install one or ? sorry if it is a dumb question i am just taking this as its a plug in and go thing.

@@toolrev Ok, thanks. I need to watch it again, got a bit confused when you had a second one, not sure what happened there. Thanks for making this video.
If you're talking about an air gap to prevent backflow some places require it, others do not. You at least want to loop up your dishwasher hose as high as possible.
Great video, glad to know the p-trap pipes can be configured at an angle like that. Going to replace a dual bowl with a nicer single sink. What is your opinion on reusing a existing disposal? Current one is a 3 year old Badger 900-2.
Not necessarily. If the drain is too long between the sink and the P-trap it won't trap water and you'll smell sewer gas. There's a code for how long it can be. If you don't smell sewer you're probably good.
I winced watching you hold that length of pipe while you cut it. You got mighty close to the fingers on your left hand. Lol Anyway thanks for sharing your no how with us

Great video, easy to understand and camerawork shows what is needed. Especially helpful was the tip about the snap ring tool.
Thanks man! I’ve never replaced a garbage disposal before. You made it easy and as a result of saving money on labor I got a better model

Hi
i think the time 2:53 a little snap ring tool is verry good tool
where is to buy it?
It comes with certain Moen disposals.
What if I also have a dishwasher that I need to plumb to it? How should I do that thanks.
Search easy dishwasher install on my channel page.
where would the plastic tube for the reverse osmosis go ?
The pipe.coming off my garbage disposal is strait and I also have a picket that comes off for the dish washer. But still helpful. Thankyou
You say more with your hands than most with their mouth. Great instructions, thanks!
I just realized that pipe come with trap are smaller than normal PVC pipe. Is it ok to use in kitchen plumbing?
You gotta check your local code.

you do also need to install an outlet under the sink and add a switch above the sink and connect it to the outlet under the sink.

Helps with the fear of the unknown. What is the tool called to cut the pvc tubing?
oscillating multi tool or just grab a 2" ratcheting PVC cutter from Home Depot for $30
What plumber putty should i use if my kitchen sink is made of silgranit ? Thanks
Never installed one but my guess would be silicone as putty can stain granite. I always call the manufacturer if I'm unsure.

No, you can just leave the old drain and basket strainer, no need to touch it.
Great video! You are spot on with explanations and made install from two drains to one drain a piece of cake! Thanks!
Do you only apply the plumbers putty underneath the sink flange? Is that enough to prevent leaks or can I put some around the space between the sink and the lower flange like 3:45? Also, are you suppose to let the putty dry before use?
Just under the upper flange and you don’t want to let it dry out.
I bought a house that's new, my disposal started to lease after 1 year.
I think application is important.
Great video short and sweetened to the point great job
Nice work quick and straight to the point!!! And easy to follow!!! Thank you sir! You answered my question perfectly!!!!
Would it be better to use silicone instead of plumbers putty?
Some prefer it. I've used both with no issue. It's up to you to use what the manufacturer calls out, or what you prefer.
Nice video! Thanks! I found some divergence on the sink drain diameter. Should it be 3.5", 4.5" or insinkerator will fit both?
yes it will fit
How do you hold the garbage disposal up when you are attaching it?
I lift it up by the lower ring mount, twist it on a little and it holds itself up until you twist it all the way.
1 question why use plumers putty and not silicone?
Here putty was called by the manufacturer.
Can you use clear caulking opposed to plumbers putty ?
Yes, use 100% silicone.
Thanks!
How long should you let the putty set before putting on the part under the sink that will hold the disposal?
No need to wait, put it together asap.
Nice if you have a big wide open cabinet with no obstacles.
What’s that ring tool called ? That saves time there
It comes with some disposals. You can buy snap ring pliers but I haven't seen a tool like this for sale.
Best instructional video. Thank you.
What is the sink flange that goes inside the sink comes with a rubber gasket do I still have to use putty ?
Not sure, I’d have to refer to the instructions.
How do you un jam this model ?
Maybe tap it loose with a hammer and screwdriver.
Where did you get that snap tool ring please? I can't seem to find it anywhere!
Comes with Moen disposals.

Pull up the excess around top of drain with your fingers and wipe with a rag or paper towel.

Would this Garbage disposal installation work the same on a ceramic farmhouse sink?
Should be the same but haven’t installed one of those sinks yet myself.
I did that and my disposal won't turn on. IDK if its connecting electrically.
If you plugged it into an outlet under the sink, and the outlet is working, check to see if the disposal has a reset button. Do a process of elimination investigation and let us know how it turns out.
Very helpful! What's the power tool you used at 4:32 to cut/trim the pipe? I installed mine today and ended up using a mini hacksaw.
The Makita XMT04 multi-tool.
