@Johnon - True. Inventor of Brian's amp that gave Queen their unique sound, financial whiz that saved them from going broke and breaking up, great bassist and songwriter of over 20 Queen songs and amazing bass lines. That's how I was, with the Rolling Stones. Once I started hunting them dow to listen, I realized I knew a whole lot of the words already. "Impossible! How could I NEVER have bought a Stones album, before now!?"
"Bites the dust" is a euphamism for dying. "Take for everything that I had, and kick me out of my home. Are you happy? Are you satisfied? How long can you stand the heat? Outta the doorway the bullets rip....." It's about a guy being pushed beyond a limit break. But a great song.
If memory serves, it was a reference both to the violence of prohibition era mobsters/gangsters and to lovers quarrels when one partner puts other things before their relationship. This song is full acceptance of the violence of life and being a willing participant in it. It's an "if I can't win I'm taking you with me" disregarding what peace there may be. The lyrics tell the story: Steve walks warily down the street With his brim pulled way down low. Ain't no sound but the sound of his feet, Machine guns ready to go. "Are you ready? hey, are you ready for this? Are you hanging on the edge of your seat?" Out of the doorway the bullets rip To the sound of the beat ... (another one bites the dust, counting the dead here, and on the return home a screaming match with their partner and the end of them with seething resentment) A. "How do you think I'm going to get along Without you when you're gone?!" B. "You took me for everything that I had And kicked me out on my own! Are you happy, are you satisfied!?" A. "How long can you stand the heat??" Out of the doorway the bullets rip To the sound of the beat, look out! A. "Oh take it - Bite the dust. bite the dust" Hey, Another one bites the dust. Another one bites the dust, ow. Another one bites the dust he he. Another one bites the dust haaaa .... Ooh... shoot out. (Another relationship gone, dead piling up. Steve fully abandons any hessitation he had. Again, this reflected the bootlegging gangsters of the minigun era, imagine mob movies like the God father) B. "There are plenty of ways that you can hurt a man, And bring him to the ground. You can beat him. You can cheat him. You can treat him bad and leave him When he's down. But I'm ready yes, I'm ready for you I'm standing on my own two feet." Out of the doorway the bullets rip Repeating to the sound of the beat Another one bites the dust ... Hey I'm gonna get you too. Another one bites the dust, Shoot out!
Fun fact: I took a CPR class and the instructor said to sing this song in your head and do chest compressions to the beat. It's the exact timing you need for CPR (just don't sing it out loud...that would be bad 😂).
Freddie was pure sensuality on stage. Sensuality and confidence. I can't think of many artists who could pull off this type of performance without looking stupid. Remarkable man and an incredible band.
I think it helped that it was clear he never took himself *too* seriousl. Similar as being a real nasty comic, if there's a sense of genuine innocence under it all it plays off so well. Freddie so clearly had that in him, from songs like this to cutesty things like Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy he just had expressed the human range of emotion so truly.
1:52 - Go ahead and say it, bro. Freddie had every card and played 'em all, wasn't constrained by race, creed, color, or calorie count. Took one for both teams, and every planet in the solar system. It's all good. You ain't gonna offend him.

This was maybe their biggest commercial success. The first one the USA played across the board in the number one spot all at the same time - country, pop, rock, R&B etc. when they were in New York City for a concert Freddie said everyone kept yelling at them that they were “BAD” and for a long time Queen didn’t understand that was s good thing. The fans who knew the song but didn’t really know them were shocked to find out they weren’t black. The bass guitar player John Deacon wrote this.
When John Lennon was murdered I lived in Dayton, OH. The day after his death, every radio station played a tribute to him by playing two songs dedicated to him. One station played this song twice and promptly went off the air for a few days.
@@michaelmorrow8198 I actually don't recall. But it was a tough couple of years there. It was the same time that there were concert goers killed in the stampede at a The Who concert, too.
Best in music is such an arbitrary term. On some days I agree with that. On others, for me many other choices Vai for attention. I've (mostly) always said there is no "bad" music. Ifn YOU like it, it's good.
I remember hearing this back in the early eighties and thinking Queen was a black band. Since then I've grown to love all things Queen! I loved Freddie...RIP! This is a classic on all levels!
You should check out the Live version of this from Wembley 1986. It has a slightly quicker tempo and the way Freddie add libs and brings the crowd into it raises it to another level imo.
You're going to love the movie when you watch it because you will be so familiar with the songs and with Freddie. You'll love getting to know more about the band and the actors killed it!!
You gotta stop being caught off guard Mr. Video. There is some badass music out there. You now have found the top of the food chain. Everyone else is under Queen lol. They are literally musical geniuses. Looking forward to more of your reaction.
Freddie's poses and gestures definitely served a purpose. As a frontman, he realized that he needs to capture and keep the audience's attention beyond the music. I suspect he was inspired by Elvis' signature poses and created his own. Definitely a Top 10 rock n roll frontman.
Hey buddy you should try from freddy & queen these other Great hits : "Somebody to love" ,"Don't stop me now" , "Radio Gaga" , "I want it all" ," Princess of the Universe" & "The show must go on"
Weird Al did a parody of this called Another One Rides the Bus. When I was in junior high, my bus driver would play it every day on the way to school...it was crowded. Kept us laughing instead of clawing for space. #lol One of the few Weird Al songs I can listen to where it doesn't totally ruin the original for me-Queen is just too good for that!
You want to know a fun fact? He liked this song so much, that he sang it so many times, he lost his voice. I love your reaction! Freddie, you are amazing!
I love that as soon as you heard the bass, you knew you'd heard the song at least somewhere in the background at some point lol. I thought for sure you'd say the same thing with Bohemian Rhapsody, but I think pretty much anyone who is around commercial music has heard of at least one Queen song. I love your videos so much, they're hilarious but it's happy seeing you genuinely get amazed by these songs and get super into them. Making my way through your Queen videos!

This is the 2nd time I was sure you'd done a song already. I must be psychic. I was always under the impression that biting the dust meant hitting the ground usually in defeat. So I always felt this was a "I'm gonna kick your ass" type of song. Perfect for you really, since you say that so much. 😄
Yeah, bite the dust comes from losing a old west gunfight and falling face down in the dirt street. I am surprised that more people are not aware of it. Also clues to it meaning that someone was not only defeated, but shot dead are the lyrics "Steve walks slowly down the street, brim pulled way down low, ain't no sound but the sound of his feet, machine gun ready to go" followed by (& repeated later) "outta the doorway the bullets rip to the sound of the beat". And later he says "it's a shootout" While his song is not about a western style gunfight, it is definitely about a shootout with machine guns of some sort. I always pictured "Steve" having a tommygun like in the '30's myself.
@@Saltyzwiggy Grew up rural, so around a LOT of old westerns back in the day... I kind of always got the impression he was influenced into the "Steve" character from Steve McQueen... just a thought. ;o)
My very first Queen song. ^u^ You should've seen my heartbroken face when my mom told me I couldn't go see Freddie, because he already passed away by the time I fell in love with this band.

When John Lennon was murdered I lived in Dayton, OH. The day after his death, every radio station played a tribute to him by playing two songs dedicated to him. One station played this song twice and promptly went off the air for a few days.
How rude of them!
😵 wow
WTUE
or WVUD?
@@michaelmorrow8198 I actually don't recall. But it was a tough couple of years there. It was the same time that there were concert goers killed in the stampede at a The Who concert, too.
I'm from Dayton. I was ten when all that happened. It might have been WEBN in Cincy.
OR WKRP
Can we talk about this sweet baseline? It set the tone. Aside from Freddy’s vocals, it’s the damn baseline for me! It’s so simple but memorable.
I'm the early 90s, I was on a jump rope team. We had a routine to this song lol
Freddie was the most elemental being ever to walk the Earth, he was pure electricity when on stage.
"Somebody to love" live Montreal 1981.
Yeeeesss!!!!
I was going to comment the same thing!
“Freddie chillin on Mercury”!
Dude, you’re freakin hilarious. I can always count on you for a great laugh and a great song!!
Keep it up! ✌️💗😂
Freddie Mercury is the best front man in rock and roll history. Change my mind.
100%. And not the one from Montreal where the crowd sucked so much.
“Dragon Attack” was another good one. I know that I was so fortunate to see them on this album’s tour. Fantastic. 💜💜💜
Mr. Video… I think you’ve reacted to enough Queen now to know that can’t nobody get Freddie! Freddie does what Freddie wants to do! LOL
I LOVE the baseline in this song! It's one of the most recognizable, to me anyway.
The first boy/girl dance I ever went to in junior high, this was the song that was playing when I walked in the gym 😎
🔥🔥🔥👍😎
We old
Freddie's poses and gestures definitely served a purpose. As a frontman, he realized that he needs to capture and keep the audience's attention beyond the music. I suspect he was inspired by Elvis' signature poses and created his own. Definitely a Top 10 rock n roll frontman.
Hey buddy you should try from freddy & queen these other Great hits : "Somebody to love" ,"Don't stop me now" , "Radio Gaga" , "I want it all" ," Princess of the Universe" & "The show must go on"
I want it all would be a great choice.
Totally! Anything from Live Aid 1985.
Brother Jamel aka Jamal just did” Tim man “ by America and had me busting out laughing. You got to do this one😀🤘
You want to know a fun fact? He liked this song so much, that he sang it so many times, he lost his voice. I love your reaction! Freddie, you are amazing!
man, no matter how i'm feeling I can always come on to your vids and it'll immediately perk me up :D
My dad had this on 45. I have it now😉.
I have that silver/black vinil, its the kind of album you listen to both side and its great.
Lol my dad hated this song! My sister and I loved it!
My favorite by Queen...fire 🔥 ass baseline with Freddie's vocals was explosive.
You are such a pleasure to watch brother! Your honest reactions, and great sense of humor is a blessing.
Loved your reaction. Queen lead vocalist Freddie Mercury. Dr. Brian may The guitar on the red special. On the drums Roger Taylor. And on the base John Deacon he wrote this song. They are all goats definitely the greatest of all time. Good luck on your musical journey. Love and peace baby❤️😀👍✌️🌼
Yep bro this queen they did this hit just another one of there many great songs and another fire reaction from you
Queen's foray into Disco at the time, they didn't want to be left behind or forgotten in the midst of the "craze" ~ Brilliant!!!
My baby John Deacon’s big **huge** hit ! ... who would have thought the shy bassist would come up with this ?
Now do the version from the Wembley 1986 concert... the crowd and the band are on FIRE 🔥
@I'm Weak For Deaky
I see we're both still roaming around UA-cam, always on the lookout for Queen reactions. Just wanted to say Hi, Honey!👋
Oh, & of course I second your comment.💙🌿💚
Deborah Cornell Hi Deborah !
Deaky!
Donnalea Spencer Donnalea !!!
Yessss!
Freddie one of gods greatest entertainers. Of course you need to do the live version of WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS
Live in Montreal... Somebody to Love
I love watching your reactions to old classic rock music, I can tell you really do enjoy the music and feel it like they do performing!! Keep up the awesome reactions!
Ready for another Queen surprise? Watch “We will rock you” followed by “We are the Champions”
Their live versions are killer. When you have a choice, best bets are usually live performances. They mix it up and the energy is awesome.
And later he says "it's a shootout"
While his song is not about a western style gunfight, it is definitely about a shootout with machine guns of some sort. I always pictured "Steve" having a tommygun like in the '30's myself.
@@Saltyzwiggy Grew up rural, so around a LOT of old westerns back in the day... I kind of always got the impression he was influenced into the "Steve" character from Steve McQueen... just a thought. ;o)
Usually, other people’s reaction videos are boring, not his. These videos are so fun to watch!
My very first Queen song. ^u^
You should've seen my heartbroken face when my mom told me I couldn't go see Freddie, because he already passed away by the time I fell in love with this band.
Here's an odd fact coming from a former longtime ff/emt, this song is a 100 beats per minute; the same amount of speed of CPR chest compressions. Another one bites the dust has absolutely, many many times, played in our thoughts while performing cpr
Amazing reaction. How about ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ another massive hit for Queen.
I hope you realize that John Deacon the base player wrote this!!! That was the essence of queen they all wrote the greatest songs and all members of the group had a No1 and shared in their glory equally!! what a family xxxx
This was played at my bachelorette party from my first marriage several times that night. I also got 3 marriage proposals from 3 strangers!! That’s sailors and marines for ya! I was quite pretty back then, I was only 19. That marriage lasted 1 year and 4 months. I refuse to be anyone’s punching bag!!
Much ♥️
Granny Winters 😊
So glad I grew up to the best music
I was waiting for this. Love from Italy 🇮🇹
Freddie WAS a runner !!! And also one of my saviours growing up. Loved seeing Freddie command a crowd, and punch the air !!! Queen is in my top two bands. They're BRILLIANT ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
Check out One Vision by Queen. And for the love of God, hit that joint man.
Big Meaney Freddie makes him forget about smoking - noticed that in the last Queen reaction 😂🤣😂
😂😂😂I respect him on a whole new level! To be real, this is my favorite Queen song. Crazy Little Thing Called Love is fun too, kind of an Elvis feel.
Check out "We Will Rock You / We Are the Champions". And "Stone Cold Crazy".
"Somebody come get Freddie. He up there doing stuff." That pretty much sums Freddie Mercury in a nutshell.
And to think Freddie didn't want to put this song out 🤷. This was such a awesome song at skating rink.....one of the more popular songs 😁. The only complaint I have is you can't do this song without doing We are the champions 😓
Grandmaster Flash ----- white lines... awesome jam skate song ... awesome channel
I have been waiting for this!! Dude!
💁🏾♀️ I’m waiting for Mr.Video to do the live version from Montreal ‘81😂✌🏾
I remember this playing over and over again on the radio and that was fine with me. Awesome memories. 💜
Queen at Live Aid. You WILL LOSE YOUR MIND!
This song was the top of the charts 40 years ago. The bass was so cool! all us kids loved this!
Used to love hearing this one at the roller rink and trying not to get slammed into the walls or each other (giving away my age) but it was good clean fun 🤘 🤘
Freddie/Queen definitely have a lot of bangers...#FACTS. People are frequently surprised at how many hits they have put out over the years. There will never be another Freddie Mercury or Queen. Still miss him and them. ❤️ 👑
