This series is excellent! I'm a retired US Army National Guard officer. I planned a battlefield study we call " staff ride", for the Revolutionary War battle at Charleston, SC in 1779. I was a 2nd Lieutenant, then.

Great video, my uncle was wounded at Monte Casino he was with the Inniskilin Fusiliers, his wound was surprisingly dressed by a German soldier before he disappeared back to his own lines, 5 minutes later he was picked up by men from his regiment. He stayed in the army until 1954 and served in the Korean war.

Hi there, he’d have known my Uncle, Harry Mann from Glengormley, Belfast.
He was also in the Skins in North Africa and then at Monte Cassino, stayed in after the war and went to Korea too.
I played the Last Post and Réveillé there too.
      We will remember them,
      Ian

Korea was no picnic. The other half of my family were Royal Ulster Rifles and were at Happy Valley and the Imjin River battles.

Great review and I’m glad you mentioned the Polish.
Been there several times and sounded the Last Post and Reveille and the Polish equivalent.
    Such an honour.
My Great Uncle served with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 38 (Irish) Bde.
All the best in your Army Career.

Very informative thankyou. I've always believed you have to study and understand the Past ,as Churchill said ( not verbatum) to stop the same mistakes happening again. And Looking at all the Gravestones, I really hope you Learned because ( God forbid ) it will be your Generation fighting this Time .

Thank you, Chelsie. Excellent video. Did you know that most of the Poles you commemorated had to undergo a tremendous odyssey before they reached Italy, where they fought so bravely? Many of them were captured by the Soviets in Poland early in WW2, were imprisoned in Sibera, but were released by the Sovs when Hitler invaded the USSR in June 1941 and Russia changed sides. Most were simply turned loose, without any aid or leadership. Then they had to make their way south, often on foot, all the way from Siberia to Persia (Iran). There they formed the Free Polish army under General Anders and trained in the deserts of Iran and Iraq for deployment in 1944 to the Mediterranean theatre. So sorry for the lecture, but I'm an intelligence historian, so that's what you get! Good luck with your Sandhurst plans. 👍👍
