@@mohammedattal8887 Because most of the people who buy them are never going to use them in any way that makes them better than a sedan. A person who buys a DBX isn't going to take it off road. They're going to be driving up and down the smooth pavement of Beverly Hills on their way to buy some more jewelry. SUV's are just uglier than sedans and shooting brakes. Now, if you're the sort of person (like a farmer) who lives up a bumpy dirt road but would still like the performance and luxury of a DB11 or DBS Superleggera, then the DBX makes sense. But for the rest of us petrolheads, they're almost always pointless.
Performance SUVs allow people in cities with bad roads the chance to enjoy fast cars. For that reason alone, I think it's important that you review them. To use the restaurant analogy, it's like reviewing a gluten-free or vegan restaurant. Yeah it sucks for a beefeater but think of all the people it helps.
Buying an SUV to drive fast in a city? Did I read that right?! Maybe you aren't UK, but our cities are congested to the point you can't a bike down most roads, and even if you could you be caught on speed camera about 30 seconds later.
😂😂 You don’t need an SUV to deal with bad roads - that’s a ridiculous thing to say. Our road has grass growing on it, huge pot holes and is often covered in mud, but we own normal cars.
@@RobManser77 Not an SUV fan but a car that rides higher and has bigger wheels will deal better with holes and high curbs. A friend of mine has a cayenne turbo with an offroad pack and it deals with shitty Polish roads really well, while still being quite fun to drive.
it’s quite simple- when you need an Suv but you also want it to be quicker than most cars, I mean quicker than 99%+ of the what is around you even through corners, plus a nice sound as a bonus. I also have one as a family car, it’s a bit sporty but nowhere near this, and it’s still faster through corners than a normal fwd saloon.
We would love a comparison between the 707 and what it is essentially based on, The GLE 63S! Thank you Chris Harris! I am also totally with you on wishing there was a new Rapide instead of a SUV from Aston!

Stammering out, “…. in terms of…. in terms of…. The LAWS OF PHYSICS!!”. LMAO!!! 🤣🤣🤣 That was great. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
This is the exception, not the rule. The rule is a boring Audi Q7, high heels, 3.0 diesel is slow, unresponsive, heavy and simply unnecessary. Not to mention all the others being similar or even worse. Yes, there is Stelvio that drives well and few others, but still a boring majority. And all that to drive children to school and go to shopping. Simply asinine...
Disgusting waste of resources to build something expensive and cumbersome to give a false sense of security to rich people who don’t actually like cars. I hate SUVs.
I abhor the industries shoving the market into SUV's. I have and will do my best to remain in the sports sedan field, as long as I can. With that said, I live in Miami and flooding is a very real and regular issue. I might be forced into an SUV simply as a matter of "survival" This machine is well out of my price range and, despite it's impressive power and driving dynamics, I would find it hard to part with as much as these are commanding when it is carrying last gen Merc cabin ware/tech etc. Partnering with Merc might provide credibility but whether it's Merc or BMW, they are always going to be hyper tight fisted about keeping the current gen tech to themselves. With all of the options out there, in this class, I am not sure if the Aston badge is enough for anyone to overlook what is considered vintage in the lighting fast tech evolution. Tech might drive many crazy but old tech is even worse. As always, hats off Chris.
Good? In comparison to what, exactly? Have you ever driven a race car? Have you ever driven a luxury car? The cayenne is neither luxurious nor competitive, it is a bland everyday bus to ferry your kids to school.
@@nickcook7408 haha. It laps the Nurburgring in the same time as a Ferrari 458. Would personally say that’s pretty impressive for a ‘bland every day bus’
Dont mind them. Just need suspension dropped to mpv height to make any sense or normal car ride height. Lowering centre of gravity . Otherwise stick a nice full floor diffuser underneath to keep it stuck
Hate suvs as well but I compromised with my wife and got an Alfa Romeo Stelvio quadrifoglio and it does feel like a car in most of its dynamics. Very happy

Doesn’t look special enough, either inside or out to be an Aston. I’m not an suv fan either, all look the same and tend to be for people who don’t like cars or driving
Aston is really struggling in their design department lately. Not one drop-dead gorgeous car in their new line-up. Ferrari are going to be eating whatever little lunch they had because of this.
Well, G-Wagen was intended to be an offroader, not an SUV. The fact that most of them are sold to glamorous Russian gangsta wannabees to be cruised around the city is a side effect.
Speaking for car enthusiasts everywhere with - Do I Want One, ABSOLUTELY Not. You just know if instead it was a longer lower Aston Estate Car instead of an SUV, Aston would sell only half as much. Which is sad as an Estate Car is better and more practical in every conceivable way, with the exception of ground clearance, but no Premium SUV is ever off-roaded with gnarly purpose.
I absolutely @#$%in DETEST SUVs! Whenever I see these cars reviewed I just always think how much better the car would be as a normal saloon/coupe/estate. They often have really impressive, powerful, torquey engines completely wasted in a big, fat, lardy boxy body with the aerodynamics of a brick wall. I understand the way it used to be. Back then Range Rovers were the only decent choice and they were used by well off farmers that truly needed its off road capabilities yet also needed it to be a semi luxury car for their trips into town/the city or to look acceptable when turning up to a business meeting or chat with your bank manager. Then it changed into a Chelsea tractor for spoilt, pampered wives to drop off spoilt, pampered children to their hugely expensive private schools. I think it became so beloved by women as it finally gave them the chance to physically look down upon male drivers. I think SUV drivers also believe that their cars are invulnerable to crash damage (in certain cases true) yet conversely they are also far, far more likely to roll. Nowadays it seems that literally every one has one! They are such a waste of materials in construction, fuel in running and money in parts and labour to fix. They NEVER even get even the faintest whiff of offroad action. The government should just increase the tax on all of these bloody awful SUVs to £50,000 a year and kill then all off once and for all!
The gap between the front bumper and wings is huge! - to the point where the look misaligned. I can't see anything else when I look at the front. Are you happy with this, Aston?
good ol bit of harris... dont stop until you cant do it anymore - please. these small vids are far better than anything topgear or grandtour can give us...
Driving a car is about joy and what it does when you drive it, that Aston delivers power precision and beauty. I am not sure what the fuss is about? It is obviously different than driving a low to the ground pure sport car, but both are enjoyable in different ways. Believe me, it is a pleasure to drive the Aston 707 both experiences are fun and pure, just different in some ways.
One antidote for you Chris - Porsche Macan, S/GTS. Feels like a straight up sports car with little roll around corners, not too heavy and actual grunt from the exhausts. The only SUV that strikes that sweet spot…
I also don't like SUVs for basically the same reason, but moving out into the woods and getting stuck in the snow has changed my priorities 😂😂this one would be a dream

But if your not a farmer, why do you need such a ugly heavy tank to drive. Mainly the women who think it is a status symbol when really lots of people just laugh at all the sheep that by the range rovers.
@@mohammedattal8887 because they are utterly pointless cars that don’t do anything better than any other type of car.
@@sx200n1 because they are spacious but still sporty and you are high up which means better suspension on bumpy roads
Chris Harris is the greatest motor journalist of all time!!!
@@RobManser77 I invite you to come visit the third world someday. Our potholes are roomier than our accomodations sometimes.
@@meady200 Yeah I guess fast SUVs don't make sense in the UK. Your streets look scarily narrow even in the countryside.
Putting the sport in SUV. Impressive but I’d still rather have a car or an estate with similar HP
We would love a comparison between the 707 and what it is essentially based on, The GLE 63S! Thank you Chris Harris! I am also totally with you on wishing there was a new Rapide instead of a SUV from Aston!
He used to sound happy 10 years ago.
I’d be grumpy if you asked me to spend the day driving this monstrosity. 😃
Funnily enough, when I buy a car it’s because I like it. Couldn’t give a toss about what other ppl think.
it's all about the image. None of these cars will see the track, but people will be bragging to their neighbours about their expensive leased car
You don't understand the point. They are comfortable and practical vehicles for daily driving and are also fast. It is far more poser to get a traditional supercar.
Chris, you just made me laugh my friggin’ ass off, lol. Seriously. 🤣🤣🤣 The genuine look of bewilderment on your face when you did the transition and then drifted back out was absolutely priceless. Stammering out, “…. in terms of…. in terms of…. The LAWS OF PHYSICS!!”. LMAO!!! 🤣🤣🤣 That was great. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
He might not like SUV's but the market sure does.
As in most things, the Americans needed to share their excess weight and size.
And has a g wagon
That’s cause he loves driving and he loves cars, but the market doesn’t.
@@thedownshiftchannel he hates SUVs that are pretending to be sports cars. Although a G Wagon is terrible to drive it's a proper off-roader.
@@2moke2creen which is used as a road car by 99% of owners. It’s still an SUV
He’s the best journalist out there!
@@darkchild130 Wow, what an answer. 👍 I agree, you described it magnificently.
imo, the only performance suv at this price point worth getting. Looks, style, performance... freakring amazing.
Amazing stability through the twisties
Now drive a Cayenne Turbo GT "silly thing" as you call it Chris. You'll be stunned how good it is.
I think he'd reply 'who bother'.
@@nickcook7408 That bus is a Porsche and does not feel like a bus and pretty much has set a nurbugring record time ;)
Dont mind them. Just need suspension dropped to mpv height to make any sense or normal car ride height. Lowering centre of gravity . Otherwise stick a nice full floor diffuser underneath to keep it stuck
Prefer this to the BBC top gear crap.
Hate suvs as well but I compromised with my wife and got an Alfa Romeo Stelvio quadrifoglio and it does feel like a car in most of its dynamics. Very happy
I'm surprised Chris Harris hasn't driven an actual silly truck like one of the Hellcats from America
What a brilliant review. Got to give credit where its due, Chris Harris has become the master.
When clarkson dies, he'll be
What can’t he drift😮💨
Snow.
His Citreon 2cv
I've just got an x3 m40i , hate suvs, but wow! Feels like a sports car. Planted, rapid and excellent visibility.... all because = bad back
You coud have get m340 with xdrive. All the same, even lighter, more aerodynamic, more planted on the road.
When you are old or disabled ♿ as I am, we cannot climb down into the seat, why we choose suv's so think about people like us when you rant, whinge on about suv's. We have to choose them.
There's literally no other option besides piloting a hunk of metal that weighs more than 2x my economy car?
Aston 'panamera' shooting break sounds lovely.
The Zagato Shooting Brake was something else!
I think Chris is just upset as he can’t clean the roof (without a jet pack).
You can’t have the ad play at the very moment I’m winding my watches 🤣. Freaked me out a little.
Imagine the cars we wud have even if 10% of people had same view of crossovers like Chris.
Everyone would be driving something 2mm off the ground and was drifting round every corner and only useful on a track if we all drove what car journalists liked
to all SUV haters including myself....
we have to be thankful for all SUVs because it creates revenue for manufacturers to come up with extreme limited performance cars......
Lamborghini 60% total sales is Urus....enough said.....
Doesn’t look special enough, either inside or out to be an Aston.
I’m not an suv fan either, all look the same and tend to be for people who don’t like cars or driving
Neither am I but have to admit it looks better in the flesh
Aston is really struggling in their design department lately. Not one drop-dead gorgeous car in their new line-up. Ferrari are going to be eating whatever little lunch they had because of this.

I'll take this over Cayenne GT, Urus Performante and Bentley B...
And it'll definitely walk away from them ☺️
from cayenne gt, I doubt it...
Awesome. That's what it looks like awesome.
Doesn’t Chris have a G Wagon 🤔☺️
Way to review a vehicle that only a handful of people will be able to buy.
More more more of this please. Amazing
good ol bit of harris... dont stop until you cant do it anymore - please. these small vids are far better than anything topgear or grandtour can give us...
Bet you have adenoids or drive a marina 🤣
Driving a car is about joy and what it does when you drive it, that Aston delivers power precision and beauty. I am not sure what the fuss is about? It is obviously different than driving a low to the ground pure sport car, but both are enjoyable in different ways. Believe me, it is a pleasure to drive the Aston 707 both experiences are fun and pure, just different in some ways.
One antidote for you Chris - Porsche Macan, S/GTS. Feels like a straight up sports car with little roll around corners, not too heavy and actual grunt from the exhausts. The only SUV that strikes that sweet spot…
I guess a Stelvio Quadrifoglio with 150kg less than a Macan will also do ;)
I live in Cheshire and very soon, everyone around here will be driving one!
Am I right by saying if you move a couple of those bushes and trees in the background, you can almost see where that was made from llandow circuit.
Good to see you Chris !
I also don't like SUVs for basically the same reason, but moving out into the woods and getting stuck in the snow has changed my priorities 😂😂this one would be a dream
Bloody hell, the way it gets up on three legs at 5:49
Just gonna say that in the double diffuser comment, should’ve been JB, SV was blown diffuser :)

Is it just me or did it look like the wipers weren't fully settling? You could still see the wiper blade in most of the on boards but from outside and a couple on onboards it looked lower down the windscreen and out of view from inside
