Rory you’ve done it once again. Through your exemplary writing and the crews cinematography, you make me truly imagine what it’d be like for me. Amazing guys, thank you
Rory...to be honest I'm not an SUV guy, but you've shown a side to this 300,000 dollar, 193 mph, 3.2 seconds to 62 mph, luxury hyper-hauler that seems my life would be awesome if only I had this Aston Martin truck. Take My Money Now!! I'm going to the loose change machine!
Yeah I'm not a big fan of them either, they are often too bulky, needlessly large, crammed interiors & never have the engine power proportionate to their weight... But this little SUV is gorgeous, plenty of power, lovely shape & compact design while maintaining interior space! And it looks like it's glued to the road with a well balanced body that is not going to roll over on a Corner lol
While I'm pissed off that Aston has jumped on the SUV bandwagon, I suppose it was inevitable, and this is a very good restyling of what I feel is a fairly dull base model DBX. Nonetheless, I'm happy to keep my 1987 Vantage X-pack and my fully restored 1985 Lagonda
Having bigger tires in general will increase friction yes. On a track however there are a lot of factors at play. If you come out of a corner faster which is possible with bigger tires/more grip, this can make up for the extra friction you have in some cases. Besided if the engineers optimized the car/motor for bigger wheel it can possibly put down more of the power effectively onto the track/asphalt which will increase speed/acceleration instantly.
Fascinated to see Rory proudly showing off his BBT, err, deployable Towbar at 3m20 ! Superb must-have gadget. All it needs now is extending-axle tyre shredders, as seen in Goldfinger ;-) ... Seriously though, that primitive 'infotainment' system could well be the 707's Achilles heel and the sooner Aston sort that out the more customers they might appeal too. Otherwise a superb and very tempting vehicle.
Having larger wheels means that you have a larger torque at the wheel, which is very useful in the track. The downside is that you lose top speed but that is more desirable in the track. Excellent video Rory!
It's a well known fact that bigger sidewall on the tires gives you a better ride, better steering feel, and also up to a point it allows the tire to flex more and give you more grip, the only reason for bigger wheels is bigger brakes
@@AutoTraderTV not 100% about on this car but on most the actual diameter of the wheel + tyre is the same so you get more side wall on the smaller wheels. If they were a different diameter the gearing and suspension would have to changed which would be more effort than it's worth.
Re handling: Bigger wheels mean there is slightly more tyre contact on the road surface. Not width, length, due to the shallower curve of larger wheels. So better handling.
Physics claim otherwise. Bigger wheels come with wider tyres.Wider tyres change the shape of footprint. Same tyre pressure ALWAYS results in the same surface area contacting the ground regardless of the wheel/tyre size.
@@ms-jl6dl As a tyre development engineer of 30 years, you are incorrect. A larger diameter tyre has more tread on the ground. Compare a 13 inch rim to a 23 inch rim.
6:39 I’m a learning engineer, but one of the things they tell you in Forza (which does translate to real life in the upgrades menu for what tuning each component does) is that larger wheels keeps the tire from deforming and maintains a larger contact patch more consistently, resulting in more grip than on a smaller rim
The cinematography has been on point lately, great review 👍 One critism, it feels like I'm watching a slideshow on those panning shots, especially on mobile/PC. Any chance you can upload in more than 24hz?
My favourite channel 4 car reviews! I think you do the best job out of all the different ppl that do reviews on UA-cam, it’s always fun & exciting 2 watch ur videos!!
follows the classical Aston Martin formula: beautiful exterior, wicked performance, fine interior materials…oh and the decade old infotainment technology 💀 seriously kills the vibe, not that I’m a potential customer, but I’d never spent that kind of money on a car that hasn’t the latest and greatest technology all around…
I was lent one for the weekend and absolutely loved it, I’ve had a Db9 a DBS and a Vanquish, and this is the best drive by far, even the new Db1w doesn’t compare.
Hi rory I got notification from so many other channels too but I choose u to watch it bcoz u have ur own class totally unique and different for me u are the stamp if u say it's good that means it would be damn good I trust u eumyes closed love and greetings from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks for another fantastic test drive Rory and team, however it would have been lovely to have taken a wee minute to get a look at the interior at the same time. After all, this is probably the only time I'll get to 'be' inside this car 👍😂 stay well one and all👌
I find it astonishing that there are enough people with a quarter of a million quid (with options) to spend on this and the countless other 6 figure vehicles which seem to appear at the rate of one a week. There’s something wrong about it all.
Great review..dont knock the buttons tho rory...thats what cars need ...buttons n dials....once u get used to all the buttons u can work controls without looking...so much better than all touch screens....also that suggestive bit with the tow bar was funny...but its gonna upset some do gooder...lol
Bigger, heavier wheels can help you get around the track faster IF the circumference of the tire is bigger/longer. One tire rotation with a larger tire moves you a further distance. It's all about the circumference. Of course the motor has to be a little more powerful to deal with those heavier tires. Drag racing uses cars with very large back tires.
I think it's more to do with sidewall flex rather than the up-gearing effect of a bigger wheel (which you could get just by slotting in a longer final drive). Bigger wheels = smaller tyre sidewalls = less sidewall flex on cornering = better handling. Also allows for bigger brake discs as well.
If I'm not mistaken it was involved in a fender bender. because the front bumper lines r little off and saw a Crack on front left bumper below the driver side corner of the grill. 🤔😉👍
Rory is there a soft limiter on this car. How is The sound in comparassion to The older version. Would it be good to modifie it so you have a louder sound.? but sick car
Valid point regarding the old mercedes infotainment system. When you buy the latest vehicle you want the latest parts, not a Frankenstein put together. The car looks awesome, great mechanical improvements but why would you pay for a top of the line release model with an old outdated infotainment system? Two steps forward, one step back. Aston need to get this part of their winning combination sorted.

Do you get a bigger sidewall with the 23s? Or are they the same profile as the 22s?
