Aston Martin DBX full review. Why this SUV will be a game-changer for Aston.

- The Aston Martin DBX is a key car for Aston Martin, hugely anticipated, this is the car everyone involved with the company is hoping is going to prove to be a game-changer for Aston Martin. Here, I review the car after two days of test on and off road.

Nothing makes my day more than video from Harry. My day just went from a zero to a 10/10. Thankyou sir.
Haha. I saw the notification and was like “Oh yeah!”.
Since I ever watched first Harry's vlog (I mean - my first Harry's) I was so impressed on how relaxing it was to watch... Some journalists have that MTV style, AK47 speed of talk... No, I don't need it. And I don't want it. I will wacht Harry's Garage and just relax. Thanks Harry!
Agree 100%..
That colour is stunning. Hope this car does well for aston.
Me too, it is a great car and looks great too, not like most expensive SUVs.
As far as cars in this segment go. This and the Macan are by far the best looking, utterly pointless but at least they look good.
Yeah, I hope it will bring a lot of money so that AM can finish the development of the Valkyrie ;-)
chappy2121 not pointless. These cars are bestsellers and keeping these companies alive. They also are engineered so well that they dont really have a handling “penalty” for an suv.
chappy2121 these will never outsell the range rover nice as they are
“The chassis breathes with the road”. You definitely have a way with words. Great review 👍
If you read old quality car magazines (like Harry's then), it was a term used quite often. Unfortunately most modern cars don't have that feeling (Volvo V60 is suprisingly good though), if you're lucky you're floating on a cloud but no feel whatsoever...

So all the other channels have just posted their reviews of the DBX, but I’m watching this one first. Harry is a true gent.
Thing about what you are saying. This is an advert.
Same
I'll click on Harry before anyone short of Harris.
...exactly...to me Harry is number 1 for a well rounded honest review.
It was embargoed until Monday so all the UA-camrs scheduled them to drop at midnight
Never seen Harry smile so much while reviewing a car!! This DBX must be awesome!
Chose your video over JWW and also carfection. Yours are always the best, and thanks for introducing us to Mr Iain
You talk to us like a grandad that we all miss! Thank you
I live in Asia and it's early in the morning, I just brewed a nice coffee made an omelette and checked my phone and this popped up..... heavenly.

wow.what a meaningless uninteresting comment.you won.
I really hope this does for Aston what the Cayenne has done for Porsche.
Selling vast numbers of a well-built SUV and allow the company to continue building proper sports cars.
@@McFly50 I thought of Porsche first, with the Macan and the Cayenne being the company's main sellers. Relatively speaking, I think the numbers of DBX sold will be much higher than other Aston models.
Especially if they do a hybrid v6 version. (New Mercedes engines) They’ll sell loads.
Me too. Top comment.
@@nl3712 Top comment? the cayenne came out nearly two decades before this, talk about being way, WAY late to the game. They will never sell in the numbers the cayenne has.
It wont, too little too late
That’s a long stretch to press the D button. Doesn’t seem right.
What a strange choice, centre console would've been better
I thought it was in a strange place
The car has obviously been designed to be driven from the right-hand seat.
PhotoIsca Yes I considered that, but two things firstly they are switches, all they have to do is move them. Secondly which one would you choose to put so far away?
That’s an Aston Martin feature.
Though I have to admit, the start button was where I went “that’s a stretch”.
Officially the most underrated UA-cam channel
I got to see it at the Dallas debut, and what an amazing vehicle. Aston Martin nailed it with this one!
Watching this a year later is very interesting. It’s always struck me that the DBX is a real sweet spot in the range of all these super SUVs - one of the best looking, well thought out and great to drive.
Yet looking at the stats, Aston sold just over 300 in 2020, while both the Urus and Bentayga each sold more than 3x as many.
I think that nowadays this is an enormously under appreciated car. On the used market, they’re a solid £65k less than a comparable Urus. I do hope sales pick up, it would be a shame for this car to go out of production.
ugly, old tech, doesn't do anything exceptional. I've driven both the bentayga (v8) and the urus, not the aston martin but I don't see how it would be better. I don't even know who buys an Aston Martin, not just this, but any of their models.
I think what you're considering a 'sweet spot' is actually a car that fails to find its identity, much like the rest of Aston Martins' range right now.
It's too big to be a sporty SUV like the Urus, too dated to be a truly luxurious car like the Bentley not to mention the obvious Mercedes switchgear inside and frankly I think it's one of the ugliest SUVs on sale at the moment. The fact that Aston can't make an SUV sell well shows that no matter what the enthusiasts think about AMs' design language at the moment, the people who actually buy these cars hate it.
I mean for christs' sake, we've gone from Ian Callum and Henrik Fiskers' DB9, Vantage and Vanquish which oozed elegance and are still some of the most beautiful cars ever, to Marek Reichmann's portfolio of godawful designs.
Wow, What an Excellent Aston Martin this is. Great design and Bodywork.....
Totally agree Harry. All the best cars I’ve ever owned had a good feeling within the first 2 minutes of driving.
Yup, same here. You just immediately know if the car is the right one
Until you get a repair bill...
I've read once about what the Jaguar had called "The first 50 metres rule" that the first impression-like thing is also present between the man and the machine after these several metres of driving :)
@@ATX_Engineer People who buy new Astons don't even look at the repair bill and know the maintenance manager and salesman at their dealer by first name basis.
@@Trussme96 that's really great and all, but most first owners don't own astons after 30-40k miles.
Has to be the best application of the panoramic sunroof I've seen to date.
exactly 1 person is gonna take this offroad further than a gravel road.
if you subtract 1 you would be correct
that would be farmer Harry - he was trundling around his farm in it before the embargo ended
ayy lmao ayy lmao If you ignore the Middle East of course where most of their customers are.
By accident!
@@stephenvincent4706 dude. they have paved roads in the middle east. no one goes offroading in serious terrain with an aston martin. if they wanna do serious offroading theyve got more capable cars for that in the middle east.
Harry is so Knowledgeable. Knows all there is know about this level of Motor.. World apart review from all the others. Harry another one you smashed out the park. 10/10.
The vat/sales tax on it will be more money than I’ve ever paid for a vehicle
It is and all of these types of cars, are a vulgar statement on how loaded you presently are.
That’s not that case with me as I bought an expensive car once and I can say I have learnt my lesson and will never do it again. A three year old car is the way forward for me from now on as in all honesty buying a new expensive car was a bloody stupid thing to do. It massaged the Ego for all of ten minutes until I realised what I bloody fool I was.
They are really VW Touaregs, technically not a bad thing and these things did save Porsche from bankruptcy. They sold loads of them with big margins toi. This has allowed Porsche to continue to be viable making 'real' Porsches. Every other manufacturer has now jumped on the same rather tasless bandwagon.
DBX receives the coveted ‘chuffed’ rating
1 minute past midnight, something tells me the NDA has been lifted. 😂😂😂 Nice one Harry.
Was thinking the same😂, just had 5 notifications from different channels at the same time
Same thing with mrjww uploaded 3 min after Harry
Happened the other day with the T50. A shame as I’m not going to watch all the reviews of the same car. It gets boring. For this one I shall be watching Harry and Carfection. Try to watch anyway, I despise SUVs.
Sparky Harry and Chris Harris, anyone else🥱😴
@@firstnamesecondname5341I like Harris too. He said that he'd have preferred Aston to have made a panamera instead of a cayenne
I've never been so excited for a new SUV except for maybe the new G Wagen. I'm an estate guy but man I really like this. Please save Aston, you're the right car to do it DBX
I love how you discuss the water fording and roof rack. You would not be afraid to use it!
A person who admires the craftsmanship in a car door hinge is a true car enthusiast, I salute you Sir great review.
Another brilliant review by Harry, that evil bump test wasn't boring at all, it demonstrated the real life living with a car, that is very much appreciated.
1:47 - off-road ability?
The man who shows up at the easter jeep safari in moab in a yellow dbx will be truly heroic
A real beauty and hope it's a success for AM. Thankyou for such a nice review.👍🏽🇬🇧
The only other person I watch on the internet for car reviews is Matt Farah only because he does have some ace cars on his show. Harry’s Garage has become the pinnacle of automotive analysis. Harry’s vast, endless knowledge and excellent delivery makes this the top show on the net.
You are a Gent Sir. I love how your voice is calm and relaxed in the video about this car. I can watch you on so many review's. Everyone is to hype or yelling through the videos lol. Specially I like to watch car reviews in the middle of the night 🌃 or day 🌄 when iam relaxing and chilling. This is an great video. And the camera man or lady, thank you for your work as well. Great job 👍🏾👍🏾
Great video as always Harry, hoping the DBX does well for Aston
Thoroughly enjoyed your review of the DBX Harry. My favourite brand look like they've got it right straight away with the first SUV. Love your reviews as always entertaining, well worded and delivered.
I wonder how people will see these cars in 20-30 years, when they're "classics". Not just this one, but all of these SUVs from exotic manufacturers.
It’s hard to believe that anything made in the past 10 years will ever be a classic. haha
They'll be museum pieces in 30 years as there will be no combustion engined cars on the road any more.
@@blairdrummond5043 The Aventador will go down as an icon of the 2010s. Hell, people are still buying it
@@ASLUHLUHC3 The Aventador still looks as futuristic to me as it did when I discovered it as a young teenager like WOW
I reckon they'll be worthless. Remember everyone will be driving electrics and ICE cars will be banned from most cities, so classic ICE cars will be mostly about the driving experience and ICE SUVs will be a non-starter.
One of my favourite interiors in any car. What a thing.
I'd pick this over the Bentayga every day of the week.
I pick everything with 4 wheels over a bentayga.. I’ve driven it for a long weekend and not once did I park and gave it a second glance..
No contest - is there an uglier suv than Bentayga? Maybe the RR tank but otherwise I think not! AM looks pure class
Well if you like to be seen in a fiesta that would be a good idea
That's not really saying much 😂
@@richardadams3142 thinking about it, the churchill tank has more elegance than the rolls
In love with the Urus but im obsessed with the Aston😍😍

Anyone else loving the highly exited Harry😂, love it, keep the vids coming, can i make suggestion? Lotus Carlton👍
I've often thought it's surprising he doesn't have one of those in his collection.
@@ianbrade7754 to be honest, id forgotten about it but my timeline has been showing vids of them the past week, what a car!
Information, insight and inspiration. I’ve been comparing reviews of recently-released cars such as the Aston Martin DBX and Gordon Murray’s astonishing T.50. My conclusion? Watching other channels is just a waste of time. Mr Metcalf imparts more information, insight and inspiration than all the others by a country mile. Well done, sir. We’re all very grateful to you. Now when are we going to see you back in your Espada?!
"That's it. Well that was exciting, wasn't it? [...] I'll do that again [...] And here it is -- and there it goes. That was the most boring bit of video I'll probably do..." Hah! Great stuff and thanks Harry and team.
Honestly the best car reviews around at the moment, good job as always harry. Keep up the good work.
Just what we need.
Another 2 and a half ton, massive, 200 grand off roader that will never see off road.
Put a different grille on it and it could be any other SUV (actually, with Ford nicking Aston's grille it looks like a Ford as it is).
I wouldn't watch anybody else reviewing yet another blobby SUV that is considerably worse than a similar regular-shaped car would be. A 'status symbol' and nothing else. If you were interested in driving you'd by a car not an SUV, and if you actually needed an SUV (and had this kind of money) you'd buy a much cheaper SUV and a better car.
I don't like those things, either. Alas, they're quite successful - the Cayenne became the best selling Porsche.
With this thing from Aston Martin, Ferrari/Maserati appear to be the last ones resisting the temptation (or am I overlooking something?).
@Andrew Frost Dang.... I did. Thanks all the same!
I'd love to see all the Cullinans, Bentaygas, Urus and Levantes on the Rubicon Trail...
Yea, but at least I will look good going to the gun range.
@D B Brand mystique is bs anyway. At least the curtain has been pulled now.
The rear door hinge is designed to -tilt the doors up, like on the sports coupes and GT cars. On the sports cars they are designed to help you clear curbs when you open them. On the SUV its just an Aston design language thing. Aston calls them butterfly doors. I sat in this a few weeks back and it is a winner. Aston nailed it with this one!
Ackschually, series 2 Lagonda was 5.28 metres long! But definitely wasn't as tall :)
and covered several postcodes. I saw one once in the '80s with a blown tire on a motorway - and three 'Arabian' types in full garb looking a bit perplexed. I stopped and helped fix the spare on - after an hour and covered in grime I thought 'payday' but they all just climbed back inside and 'effed off.

A good genuine review by someone who knows and understands vehicles of all types.
Another nicely delivered and objectively balanced criticism from Harry
Ferrari is the last one holding out. I think they're profitable enough to just say "no". Don't do it Ferrari.
Er they’ve got one coming out in two years time.
why don't do a SUV? In fact many rich people still want to drive a SUV marqued supercar brand. They want a SUV which is damn powerful. Why not?
@@quocanh95nguyen its just not sporty , it has a very high CoG. SUV's are just not sports cars. they are for older rich show offs.
I agree. Just because everyones an SUV I don;'t think it suits all brands. IT's really bland to have everyone doing the same thing. A luxury box on wheels.
D B Gent Harry wouldn’t reply that way, would he?
The presentation a car like this deserves. I could never afford a car like this but if I could, I would!! So nice to see preformance without trying to break the land speed record, and design for a family, individual man and individual woman, and so many sensible innovations included.
Thanks Harry......as always the top man of car review!!
Cheers, Bob
I guess this is what survival looks like for Aston Martin in 2020.
Ironic that the least Aston Martin car they've ever made may save the company. The next step is adding Kwh into the mix or like it or not, this model just slows the demise.
Evolution or extinction
Regulations may favour EVs, but people's buying habits certainly don't.....
I don't think lithium ion cells are what's gonna do for keeping Aston from going under but nice try.
@@mattevans4377 They're coming, the momentum is shifting. Model 3 was the top selling car in April. Lifetime ownership costs are already cheaper for a new EV and they're still getting cheaper/ better charge times and range. Slow charge times are outweighed by hone charging for regular short commutes (doesn't help everyone yet admitedly but solutions for flats/ terraces will come )
Scale manafacturers like VAG and Ford joining the party will keep pushing prices down and choice up.
In ten years, I doubt many purely ICE cars will even be on sale as they just won't make sense.
You also have to consider re-sale. You don't want to worry about whether your 3-5 year old car will be effectively obselete/ not allowed to enter cities etc or cost of ownership suddenly looks ridiculous.
I'm not saying we're quite there yet, heading that way though and development of a whole new powertrain technology and the software to make it work competitively takes a lot of time and money. So AM and every other manafacturer need to get cracking or be left behind.
You must have forgotten about the Cygnet
@@tomraymond9795 You're high if you're comparing a Model 3 to a super luxury SUV. No one in the market for one cares that it doesn't have a battery for a the next decade. The volume for cars like this is less than 10K models over the course of it's life span. I think they'll be fine without all your futuristic claptrap tbh. xD

Sorry, I love HM but are we kidding?
An Aston SUV (it makes little sense) with a Mercedes engine (it makes no sense at all)
Cannot believe it came from the same person who enjoyed a Miura or a Testarossa.
This is only good for rich people that do not have any passion in cars.
It would be like a Patek Philippe chrono perpetual with a movement from Rolex
I would have chosen light brown for the leather , however I love the paint.
It seems the least vulgar and ostentatious of the exotic SUVs, and in this market, sales will probably suffer as a result.
Least ugly by far.
I agree. The Bentley front end is ugly, the Rolls front end is absolutely hideous, and the Urus front end looks awkward with the sports car look not translating well to the thicker SUV nose. The Cayenne is more tolerable, but the iconic Porsche front-end just didn't translate well to an SUV in my opinion, but they still stuck to it.
IMO Bentley has done good job, as it's well aligned with other Bentleys(for how it looks). Urus, while technically impressive, just looks like an Audi with an ugly bodykit, much more so than R8/Huracan. Rolls is just unnecessary, as it basically serves the same purpose as the other big cars in their line up, while being less attractive. Yeah, least vulgar of them all, good looks, practicality and performance
Not designed with Premiership footballers in mind..
Probably not.. Sales drop when they are purchased and driven by the wrong people... Remember Burberry and football fans the brand suffered.. So AM aren't going worried if the wrong people don't buy it. May they'll pay them not to buy similar to Levi asking Jeremy Clarkson not to wear their product if they paid him
I could not stop thinking about my old citreon ds 21 when he mentioned the suspension, great car this one but omg 200 grand .thanks for this one.

I have a DBX and love it. The gas mileage is a sin but it's so much fun to drive AND so roomy. It's a real SUV.
It's lovely but if I was buying a prestige 4X4, I'd still go for the Bentley. But horses for courses, I can absolutely see the DBX being very successful. Thanks for a great Video, Harry.

I can't say i'm happy to see Aston making this. I find these expensive SUVs a stupid contradiction.
filo4590 if that’s what people want then why not?
The chassis is so good Aston should put the V12 engine into it.
Been waiting for you to put up the review of this car Harry after seeing it briefly on your farming channel. But you were under secrecy then. I was smiling so much along with you on this ride.
If this was important to Aston Martin, they would’ve created a basic/entry level at about 50k. 150k for an SUV will sell a tiny amount. They should be trying to take on Porsche Cayenne and the Tesla X, not the Lambo or Bentley. Crazy business plan from Aston Martin.. again...
50k?! You’re deluded. Aston is a prestige brand, not a mainstream manufacturer. You ruin the cache of the brand by moving downmarket. Plus profit margins become non-existent at that price point.
Well Aston Martin has the issue that if they sell too many cars, they are subject to fleet wide CO2 emission regulations. Boutique manufacturers don't have to adhere to the EU regulations, as long as they produce in low numbers. So a very well selling SUV means that suddenly their average CO2 goes through the roof and they get massive fines. This is the reason Ferrari is waiting with their SUV and why there is no 'cheap' Dino replacement. Ferrari is at the limit with their production numbers. For other manufacturers like Lamborghini, they can rely on the CO2 emissions for the VAG group.
That car is actually-surprisingly- good looking! What a shocker!
What a stunning vehicle, I was doubtful whether AML could pull it off, however it’s beautiful, especially inside. Respect and hope it sells well and AML come through the turmoil they currently face. Harry as ever quality
Looks a lot like a Porsche Cayenne/Macan. Same headlights, really only the rear is different. My 2 generations old GTI has a pop-out reversing camera, not sure that's so original.
Guess what has the same headlights... Other Astons.
The DBX may be the best looking current production model....great to hear Harry's take on it.

Awesome video!! When Aston do it right - that is the most perfect feeling - you can’t describe it - it’s something you have to feel and experience yourself
Aston with towing capacity, wonder how many will be seen towing horses around to events?
most of them?
It's a bit borderline at 2.7tonnes, a decent two horse trailer plus a 16'2 horse will be close to that, you won't be able to take two big horses or a big horse plus living (e.g. IW Eventa L). I guess they are hoping it'll be OK for the first foray into ponies and then replaced by a horsebox if things get serious :)
More likely going to Waitrose in Surrey or parked up in Knightsbridge.
Lots of people who don't buy these things say that, but a significant minority will be used to do light offroading and/or towing. It's the versatility of these things that appeals, Aston needed to include it. Sounds like they did.

Well well well, this car test was worth waiting for! Harry what a great video treat from you,to show us around a suburb motor car,I can can only dream about, well done Harry & thank you👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
There is a sport exhaust button, also, the truck comes a lot of standard equipment , more so than the Urus or Bentayga which puts a loaded US spec car around 210 unless you get crazy with paint or carbon fiber trim, plus it has more room than Urus or Bentayga. I have a Urus now and one of these on order but not as a replacement, for the wife who drives a Bentayga Design series which is nice, but big body and heavy. Very excited about this car.
The side door handles are perfect, every car company should copy them, the rear tail light is nice looking, but the rear diffuser is garish, looks cobbled together, and is way over styled. Who needs all that crap hanging off the back of the bumper? Clean up the design dummies.
