- No sooner did I release my last video wherein I talked about wanting for this Snap On Flank Drive Plus wrench set, did I come across an ad on Facebook marketplace offering it! I drove an hour in each direction to pick up the last wrench set ill ever need!
Am I crazy, or did I get an incredible deal?

They are nice wrenches. But in various testing, Wright Grip and Mac RBRT outperform Snap on flank drive plus. I do like those wrenches though. Just remember that Snap on is not the end all be all. And good lord I hope you have a well paying job.
The RBRT is a great design
Wrightgrip literally invented the flank drive plus design. Patent expired, now snap-on uses
@thebackwoodsmechanic5029 rbrt open ends wear pretty fast and don't grip aswell after prolonged use just putting that out their
@@seans9165snapon flankdrive plus open ends were around before wright grip open enda
Wright grips are awesome! Almost 1/3 of the S-O price.
It’s a great set of wrenches don’t get me wrong. But man if you’re just diyer, you’re going down the rabbit hole incredibly fast. If you’ve got the money go for it but don’t get yourself into debt. I’m a tractor tech and only have a handful of snap on tools. Not that I can’t buy them but don’t see the point in spending the money for yes a good tool and a good warranty when you can get the same tool with the same warranty at a fraction of the price.
No offense to this guy but he clearly has plenty of money not turning wrenches for a living. He wants what you guys have. I have all Icon wrenches as a diyer. And also a ton of older style craftsman, Bonnie, Proto , Pittsburgh and whatever else is in there. This isn’t a rabbit hole, it is an addiction. Addictions make you feel good until it don’t then you have to keep feeding the addiction.
He has a 10k plus watch on I'm sure he's ok
I noticed it too
lol I’m a DIYer and I’m ordering an Epiq. I’m way to far down this hole
Ha DIYER here. With a 152” epiq 😂 and I have this master set too
I'm glad to know I'm not the only homeowner with the bug. Keep up the good work. I'm tired of tools I'm not proud of. That wrench set is sweet. Ive got the metric half in foam, but went XL for my SAE side. Wish trucks were more accessible to the common man, until then I buy eBay and off the website. No free stuff yet. I will find a truck when I got $1500 in my pocket, and see what I can do on a ratcheting master set. Never thought I'd buy a box either, but got a sweet deal on a like new roll cart off marketplace.
The bug is real 😅 nothing wrong with eBay and marketplace, lots of good deals to be had
My dad has been buying snap on since the 70’s. He’s said to me, don’t ever buy one, you’ll have them soon enough. When they are mine it will be a sad day, but the snap on warrantee is amazing.
I feel that, have a similar situation with my grandfather 🙏
I personally have the metric set from 7-36mm and I use them all
I am happy that you found this set
It will serve you well
I myself am a professional mechanic so yes I know what you have
You definitely could have gotten a better deal if you went with Wright grip 2.0's both SAE and metric sets. I paid just under $600 after tax and shipping. For both 15 piece sets. I paid $215 for the metric, a little over $310 for the SAE set that was five years ago. You'll probably pay a little more in today's money. Still way less than Snap-On. The Wright grip 2.0's have a thicker beam, to me they feel more comfortable in the hand. Where as a Snap-On has a thin beam they are discomforting, have the tendency to bite into your hands when you put any significant amount of torque on them. Strength wise the Wright grip 2.0's are a little better. The advantage Snap-On has is, they are available in a long pattern, where Wright grip 2.0's come in a shorter length. Wright does make fine tools overall. Where Snap-On edges out Wright as far as main drive tools are concerned are ratchets. Wright does not offer an enclosed pear head fine tooth ratchet. Wright still offers the old school SK style round head ratchet. Which are not necessarily bad, but myself and most people prefer the enclosed pearhead ratchets. In my opinion the Snap-On dual 80 is the cats ass.
Lotta folks suggesting Wright, will have to look into them. Agreed re; 80 tooth ratchets 👌
Love the Wright grips!! 1/3 the cost of S-O and well worth it!
You mention a new Snap On toolbox a lot. I’d give it a week before that used 84” Epiq with a stainless top is rolling off a truck into your shop. Ok, maybe two weeks tops. Actually never mind. And could you share with me the phone number of the guy who has it? I’m asking for a friend.
Lol. He's trying to talk himself into it
You dog, that’s just NOT right Doc!!!
You can hear the temptation… lol
It's like we all know how this story ends!
@@nednedly3962 lol right?!?! Like me over here thinking near the end of the year I may be on the hunt for a preowned 68-84” Epiq in Sapphire blue with a locker. Lol
Crazy watching this guys addiction develop lol, went from first time on the truck 4 months ago to now buying snap-on pretty much every week
Life sure does come at ya fast
Three of my coworkers bought that same set and they each gave 1400 bucks. Everyone of them had to trade in a wrench set though, didn't matter the quality, could have been a 3 piece set of whatever. I think 1400 is the going price everywhere if you haggle.
Love the wrenches, not the cost. You really gotta know the definition of the words NEED, and BUDGET to make this investment. For a guy making $$ off his talent with these tools, the ROI is there. There really is no ROI to the DIYer on these prices. Are they nice, yes, do I really want a set, yes, is it worth the hit to my bank account? No.
My dealer had that on sale for 1700, and although I was very tempted, I just could not get myself to get it since I have most of the smaller sizes in flank drive plus in both metric and SAE and I also rarely use those larger sizes in the set. It just didn't make sense for me to get it even with the credit he was giving me for the ones I had. It sure is nice though! You're right, you'll never need to buy another wrench! You scored! And it doubles as a cool xylophone as well! Thanks for sharing!
Can you trade in? I've never been on a truck.
@@jefferywalton8176 Dealers typically do allow trades, but how good of a deal depends on your relationship with your dealer.
1300 is cash price on my guys truck
I buy new snapon tools from a guy who isn’t a dealer but has awesome deals. I go to him directly and pay cash . I paid 1300 each for 2 sets . I figure I saved 50% off retail. I have a hobby auto shop I keep a set there and a set at home
Sounds like you got an amazing deal, twice!
1300 is cash price on my guys truck. And I'm sure he's still making money
I've got the opposite. Flank drive, master set 7-32mm . Flank drive plus for reversible ratcheting 10-19mm . I agree with you. I think the "plus" set is a last resort. the flank drive plus is a wider jaw to accommodate rounding off/already messed up bolts. i was kinda surprised about this. but i understand if you're reaching for the flank drive plus its meant to actually twist into those groves.
That’s honestly probably the way to go given the rate at which you’ll reach for the flank drive. Still, I already had the flank drive in the ratcheting so I was okay with this set. Sounds like you have a great setup!
Some foam sets make sense from the space standpoint and other don't, I agree with you that this wrench set is one of the ones that doesn't waste too much space. That being said, the OCD in me says give me some toolbox widgets and I can make that fit in a way smaller footprint hahaha. Put that set in widgets and you can fit all 3 sets of wrenches in that drawer, being limited to a specific layout is the biggest killer of usable space. There is also a fine line between functionality of a layout and orginaztion that crams things together so tightly you can't use them effectively though.
I’m hoping to do a video at some point to quantify the foam volume vs no foam. Definitely a trade off
@@HeyDerFolks that would be a good one. I was at the point my old box was out of room and I didn’t want to pull the trigger on a bigger one right away so I started playing with different organization products. I ended up selling on a combination of heavy toolbox widgets, some toolganizer stuff and some Olsa tools items. I spent a good chunk of change but it was significantly less than a new box and bought me about 3 years before I decided to bite the bullet. Funny thing is it actually helped me in the process of buying a new box because once everything was in a highly organized state that wasted a minimal amount of space, everything then had a very discernible footprint. That made box shopping a lot of leg work but minimized the potential for buyers remorse, I could look at the dimensions of a drawer and say my current wrenches won’t fit, or this drawer allows me room to grow.
I wish that I could have afforded this set when I was your age. I built my large Snap-On collection slowly and piecemeal. There is no question in my mind that Snap-On is the best designed and performing wrench available. I don't even know how many complete Snap-On wrench sets that I own now. I have two shops, and both are pretty well tooled up. In spite of my Snappy addiction, I have invested in other premium brands as well, so my chests are peppered with alternative options. I have a source for seriously discounted MATCO new product, and this has tempted me to fill out some lacking of specific socket sets. I have old MAC sockets that are certainly acceptable and I like the alternative shape. I have PROTO and MAC wrenches that I use mostly as back up sets. I think that owning two "master" combination sets for each tool chest is the best option over investing in box and open end wrenches. I find that one short or stubby set for each chest is really helpful, but I haven't doubled up on the shorter wrench sets. I own the Flank Drive Plus, but more versions of conventional Flank Drive. I like the Snap-On reversing box ratchets over every other brand, but I only have the metric set.
My co-workers most commonly didn't invest in premium tools, but they are still a joy to use even in my hobby retirement life. I purchase more tools in my retirement than when I was employed. I long ago accepted that premium tools enabled my best performance, improved my efficiency, suffered less personal injury, and avoided product and tool damage.
I am a retired hobbyist now, but I still justify owning premium tools. Part of my willingness to "step down" to MATCO is my intermittent hobby use and my advancing age doesn't always warrant in Snap-On premium price.
I have never purchased a tool on a payment plan. I shop the secondary market for most of my purchases. This has stretched my buying power, allowed my wife to stay home, retire early and still enjoy the many advantages of premium tools.
My really to large wrenches are mostly PROTO and Williams. The Snappy large wrenches are hard for me to find in the used market and under 32mm and 1.5" covers what I do most. Those brands do fine, but they still just don't feel as right in my hand!
Sounds like you invested in top of the line stuff over a lifetime, and have no regrets. Thats all you can ask for! I'm very fortunate to have been able to acquire this set when I did, something I will take care of and cherish for the rest of my lifetime and hope my children (and their children) do as well.
@@HeyDerFolks I am similarly motivated. I am blessed with 36 grands and another one pending! I am still tool collecting and using, but I am also actively giving it away to the boys. They are mostly already collecting and developing their shops. In spite of their collections I expect that they will dilute my hoard pretty easily. I have been unwilling to spring for any of the really large Snap-On Master tool chests, but I am some where around 30 smaller chests now. After I retired my wife encouraged me to build a bigger hobby shop. I am still outfitting this 4600SF building. This allowed me to split disciplines, woodworking in the house shop, machine shop, fabrication and mechanic in the new building. The shop capacity brings lots of joy, especially when I share it with youngsters.
Great purchase Peter 👌🏻
Thank you!
Be aware if you purchase a Snap-on tool box from an individual, you have zero lifetime warranty.
They can even not warranty any Snap-on tools not purchased from a dealer. This is getting more common and it's up to the dealer and Snap-on if they warranty it.
Basically from what they told me, the lifetime warranty is for the original purchaser only. So even if you mail in tools for warranty, they can ask where did you buy the tool.
The tool boxes have hidden serial numbers and can be traced. Snap-on credit is not unsecured debt.
All that policy does is devalues the tools to the owner. No other company has such a restricted policy.
@@jefferywalton8176 It’s actually common to have that in many warranty descriptions, how often they enforce it is a different issue. I’ve never had a problem with warranty through my dealer, he just gets me what I need.
Definitely something to consider! I'm most likely buying the box new (someday), because I have particular requests in terms of color and setup, but boy is that price going higher and higher!
@@HeyDerFolks good choice. I also bought my toolboxes & roll carts New from Snap-on & MAC, because I wanted certain specifications & I wanted Orange w/ Chrome trim, so I waited until they ran special sales and I negotiated even further with my dealer for a 66” toolbox and a big Roll Cart for a deep discounted deal. They offered me some free tools with the deal. I’m very proud of my Masters Series tool box & roll cart and my Macsimizer toolbox & roll cart. Get what you want
@HeyDerFolks they aren't going to get any cheaper, that's for sure. Ask your dealer to look for the box you want at the tool show next month. Note that as a DIYer, and not a tech on his official route, Snap-on credit won't approve you. You'll want Snap-on credit to take advantage of the rebates. I had to get a business license and was then approved. $15 saved $12k. I added tools that I wanted to get to the next rebate tier and split into 2 orders to maximize the rebate. $9k rebate on $45k purchase was the max.
2:00... ALOT of wrenches have that feature (in one way or another)... you bought them because the say "Snap-on " on them...let's call it what it is...one day you'll get more money for them than I will with my Milwaukee with "flank drive plus"...☝️
Idk if it’s worth the amount snap on is asking for. It was worth trading a few of my Milwaukee power tools for this master set, I think the guy only used five wrenches out of it.
I also have Mac knuckle savers and they are equally as good.
I bought the Mac 33 piece wrench set with the foam insert that hold all the wrenches and I only paid $900 for all the wrenches and foam!!
Nice, sounds like you got a great deal!
Congratulations that’s a bad ass set one day. I’ll buy one!!!!
Thanks, Justin!
For the price we pay you damn right you better take best care of what u can
I’m a market place pirate! Get ALOT of my tools off there.!
Congrats on the wrench set! It's even green foam 😀
Thanks!
Once you have the shindig it's easy to buy the cheap stuff to place around it,
Hell of a nice set. In my opinion the metrics should go up to 32 mm though.
So Proud for you
Thanks, Scott!
I was proud of my new flank drive plus wrenches the day I carried them in to aviation maintenance school. The instructor laughed and said good luck using those on someones multi million dollar plane. You're going to mar up all the hardware! That guy was a mechanical genius, but he had zero business teaching. I think he lost all his patience for teaching a long time ago. He fathered 15 of his own children so I guess I'm not surprised.
Proto for aviaition 🎉 best ever since you won't mar
15???! That might explain a whole host of possible issues that could lower ones patience. Here I am struggling with 1 lol.
Ya that’s tough. Regular flank drive probably best for these situations. What did you end up doing?
The master set is the best way to go . I worked in the shop and in the industrial industry for 20 years. Just recently switched up trades.
Small steps are the way to go.
These are the best wrenches ever made but Wright is 2nd and Mac Precision Torque is 3rd in my opinion
Good stuff. Showing some support
Except that I think a number of those have been tested and actually worked reasonably well, not as well as the aggressive ones though obviously.
That lower color in the foam just needs to contrast. The idea is that you see any missing ones at a glance, as you picked up on.
I’d probably have picked them up too. 😂
Great video 👍
Thanks, Tony!
9k for an epiq is crazy. Even with stainless top. I see mint condition epiqs with top for 5-6k on marketplace all the time.
When you find an 84” epiq with a stainless top for 6k or less, please notify me immediately 🙏🙏🙏
@HeyDerFolks will definitely do that. I'll direct msg you the link. I see some often. 68 is more common I've seen but have seen a couple 84
Yep, I see a lot of 68s in that price range. I’ve never seen an 84 for that price. HeyDerFolks (at) gmail (dot) com
Got it from my dealer for 1500 with a bunch of free stuff too
Wow, you got robbed. I got a set of Tektons for $300.
Sounds like a great deal!
I have most those wrenches they started coming out after I bought all the individual sets they not do picks and mini screw drivers all the hammers all sorts of ratchets sae mm socket sets.. never had any of that
Enjoy your new toys 😂 you deserve them
I sure will 😅
Some things can be just too damn expensive😂
My $280 tool bag might have about $1500 inside at any time… with my tool chest has a few $1k… I think all my wrenches are about $1000 but we’re talking 2 times more wrenches… no lol😂
i had a milwaukee set 8-22 and my snap on guy gave me 500 for trade in toward a flank drive plus 7-25. normally 1200$ sold it to me 700$
Nice!
I cannot believe what guys are paying for empty FOAM on eBay.
Pretty wild. Few sets on there for 500 currently.
Can you give us the business name of the guy who’s opening a used Snap On store?
Finger Lakes Tool Co. - facebook.com/profile.php?id=100070116552172
Thats a very nice set and with that foam if you wanted to get creative you could use that wasted space on the foam to hold sockets. Just have to make the cutouts or even a wrench extender tool
Great idea!
Should have just got the Wright Tool Wright Grip 2.0 set. 1/3 the price, and equal, or dare I said barely better, than Snap-On Flank Drive +.
I love my Wright grip 2.0 Wrenches! Best investment I ever made! For both metric and SAE wrench sets, I paid just under $600 for both sets. I had them for over five years, never broke one, never warrantied one. They are my daily drivers.
No doubt snap-on is the cadilac of tools. I am not a mechanic but I have thousands of dollars worth of tools. Even though I had good gearwrench 120 xp ratches. I decided before I die I wanted to own snap-on ratches with the red handles. You have to spend your money on something. Buy within your means and be happy.
Perfectly said!
What do you do for work profession?
Wondering the same. Is someone Gunna tell him the open end of a spanner (wrench if you're not an Australian lol) isn't for breaking a bolt loose Definitely not a rusted or stuck one that's for sure 😂
I have the metric set from Wright, similar sizing with a 27 i needed, local authorized dealer for $325 precovid. For myself i think i got a banging deal. Dont really need SAE. I waa thinking i was done buying wrenches too but every now and then you need a specialty one.
That does in fact sound like a bangin deal!
My buddy bought my flex heads at a good price so i myself could upgrade and I took advantage of the latest 25% off Icon deL But your pawn shop deal has me wondering that I need to do the same kind of shopping.
Pretty hit or miss in terms of Snap On at the pawn shop, but they seem to have a lot of other stuff when I go in. Picked up a set of blue point feeler gauges for $15 most recently
You can get some great tools for half the price if you are Diy guy I would not spend $2400 on a single set of wrenches I was a mechanic for more than 30 years and that master socket set I would get the impact instead of buying the chrome socket . As far as the epic box I would look into other options or keep the Husky maybe get a top cabinet. Metric tools are more used today then SAE
I ordered from Japan and the price is 2800 including tax and delivery 😂
I like snap on but not the price, since I just tinker around in the garage I don’t need them, hats off to the guys and gals that can afford them
Whatever works!
Seen them on the truck for 1700
Nice!
Are u interested in researching ko-ken sockets, knipex push button style, Milwaukee 12v
I've heard only good things about ko-ken but haven't tried them myself. I've got 3 pairs of the Knipex Cobras in varying lengths, and have a handfull of M12 tools (several videos on the channel). Will consider a future ko-ken video for sure.
@@HeyDerFolks nice. Loving the content. Thx! Snap on is good and. They’ve marketed themselves as such
Plus proven it with many tools. Id love to see
More brands and love towards other top end brands. Love your passion and enthusiasm however.
Hello when you buy second hand tools are they still covered by life time warranty
Those wrenches don’t need warranty
Technically no
@@HeyDerFolks snap-on wrenches are of such quality, that you don’t need warranty
Good buy at $1400.00 be careful it's a good investment if you buy rite my first purchase was a set of flank STD wrenches 48 years ago $95.00 when my Dad found out I thought he was going to blow a gasket there worth a tad more now lol the snap on dealer show is coming that is usually the best time to buy a tool box if you have the rite dealer I need to get my laptop fixed I am on a phone I can't PM I would like to be able to give you some pointers I have had three SO dealers and all have been good the one I have now has always got his own deal baby steps Peter lol 👍😎👍
You can email me at heyderfolks (at) gmail (dot) com if you’d like. I’ve heard about the dealer show but didn’t know it was coming up. Exciting!
You should bought soxrr 5/16 thur 9/16 and the set of soxrrm. Bigger wrenches the size you need. Just saying
Wright Grip 2.0 are better, made in USA and much cheaper.
Yep I agree with u, I have complete sets of 2.0
Cash price on my guys truck is 1300 for wrenches
watch some of the wrench shootout videos -- better wrenches for way less out there mac pt and rbrt beat s/o everytime as do several other brands
I think you should do some snap on tool giveaways. Just sayin'!
Someday!
Congratulations, those wrenches will forever be the Centerpiece & your “Pride & Joy” in your toolbox. Now, don’t pass up an Epiq deal on that Epiq toolbox. Next, you will need double box end 60 degree offset wrenches and 4 way angle wrenches, along with a mini-set of 4 way ignition wrenches.
I found the same deal on those wrenches in green foam & orange foam, so I bought both sets for $1,400 each and I wouldn’t part with them for Love nor Money.
That foam actually saves space in your box. I understand some foam waste space, but not in that set.
Congratulations
You I would say don’t need them. You should have gotten flank drive (not plus) as these are more of a specialty application tool not every day. I have flank drive plus and they have no place in my daily cart or service truck. They sit in my big box waiting to be used. I am a heavy equipment and ag mechanical and think you got bit by the SO bug and really need to think about purchases more before you pull the trigger.
That's the difference between someone who understands the use of a tool and someone that has absolutely no need for them apart from feeding into his addiction for views on UA-cam. I wonder if he UA-cam didn't exist would he be mak8ng the same purchases
Let the man make his own decisions and spend his money how he wishes!!!
So how much did he pay for these?
30% off 2300????
Yep!
I paid 1200 on sale from my truck lol
Sounds like you got a great deal!
Dude you have more money than than common sense!
I knew I was missing something!
Where I work I bang whit 4 lbs hammer on it so I use cheap one
Makes sense!
Only way $2300 wrench set is a good deal is if you have more money than brains. So many other brands you can buy for way less and they will last you a life time, if one happens to fail, they come with easy to use limited lifetime warranty.
Good thing I didn't pay $2,300 😅
Lmao $$$$2800 for a wrench set....no f-ing way bro
wow
$2200 for some wrenches? They are wrenches that have already been copied by other companies for much cheaper. You must have money to literally burn.
You have got to be out of your mind to spend 2k on a set of wrenches. But hey I guess I’m just poor lol
😅
Over priced !
These Days !
If you've got a stubborn fastener that u dont care whether or not it gets damaged, your still better off using a regular box end over a FD+ open end.
Go get your toolbox
Someday 😅
Mac precision torques. You can get both sae and mm set for what you paid. As a heavy equipment tech never had a issue with them and they help with the hands, they’re fatter so it doesn’t hurt when you have to use the force of your hands. Also, your eyes don’t lie, stay off the truck for awhile, you’re going balls deep in a very dangerous area. You got more tool truck brand stuff as a diyer then most professional techs. If you have the funds to do so, but once that new purchase high wears off and you’re not making money off those tools it’ll lead to buyer’s remorse and depression. Take care of yourself.
Should never use the open end to break loose a stuck fastener always use the boxend
A “set”, of snap on tools typically cost the same (more or less) as purchasing each tool individually. That being said, even though you got the set for half price, if you’re most likely never going to be using “more than” half of those wrenches as a DIYer, you kind of over paid.
Eh, I've got 30-40 years of DIY ahead of me. I'm not too worried about getting my moneys worth out of these things, plus they'll outlive me and who knows what my sons, daughters, grandkids etc. will do with them. Hopefully, they'll take as good care of them as I do and keep them in the family.
Boy your extremely sensitive .. delete comments like crazy 😅
Huh?
I love having a tool enthusiast setting up a camera, and explaining wrenches to me. I bet he doesn’t even know what SAE stands for. These guys make these channels to strong arm local tool dealer into discounts.
Hi Sydney - it seems as if we got off on the wrong foot. I am not interesting in explaining anything to anyone, in this space. I am mostly talking to myself and the camera happens to be there. If someone learns something, great, but more likely than not someone is going to let me know when i've said something wrong and *teach me*. I greatly appreciate constructive feedback, though your comment is more negative than anything. As for "strong arming local dealers", I do not know what you mean and can assure you that i've never bought a tool for any reason other than...I wanted the tool.
Steal deal
I thought so as well!
