The brilliance of the individual members aside, the sound is incredible. I have the nagging feeling that in spite of all the advances in technology, modern live sound is really missing something. For a start, it's almost a non-existent occurrence these days to find a singer who doesn't have the mic halfway down their throat. Even a 'how-to-use-a-mic' video I saw recently has the tutor kissing the damn thing...
The sound question pt 2: I realize that misplaced rock 'n' roll (Spinal Tap) bravado of amps-up-to-11 silliness is partially responsible (for comparatively lousy modern sound) but surely there's more to it? Then again, if you're as good as this, there's no need to bludgeon with decibels and effects. You just pick up the instrument and play it.
Possibly my favourite You Tube video, certainly my most viewed! This is my favourite version of this Pentangle track, the musicianship is just insane. Please, someone release this on a crisp new 45.
