Pentangle's never been replaced, let alone matched. Five marvelously talented musicians, masters of their instruments, always inspired. How lucky we were to have them.
It’s funny Pryor to reading your comment I was thinking exactly the same thing what came into my head was “is it me or is this group totally unique because I’ve never heard any group like them”
It's disgraceful to think that, without recordings from Euro tv stations, we'd be left with little or nothing of this wonderful band in its prime. Such neglect from their own tv.
Pure talent, beautifuly performed. Each member of this brilliant group in perfect unison. Thank you to those who has the foresight and wisdom to preserve this remarkable footage. Credit to the songwriter, Anne Briggs, too for this wonderful song.
Bert and John in their prime but let’s not overlook the great Danny Thompson. Just watch his fingers play that bass. They all look so fresh. A very inventive group. Lovely to see this. Thank you for posting this and thank you Norwegian TV. Over here the BBC junked so many precious programmes. Shame on them.
Danny is a damn bass player, with an instrument that pushes a sound... I'm jealous of his bass, it hums, it squeaks, it's round and expressive at the same time, a joy!
I saw the two original members of pentangle play singularly here in Portland in the last 20 years before they had passed away, as it was amazing to watch John Renbourn perform at a small campus venue at Lewis & Clarke College in Portland Oregon. Then later Bert Jansch perform in a major recording studio, Mississippi Studios here in Portland. I went up to the stage after the concert to talk to a lady that was rounding up all the equipment, as I thought she was just a roadie, as I asked her if Bert would come back out to autograph my vinyl album cover of the Sweet Child album. She assured me that he would come back out. the girlfriend that I took to the concert with me and other friends just said no he's not going to come back out we should leave now I said no, this lady said that he would come back out- it's his wife- I asked if she was sure he'd come back out, she said of course I'm sure he's my husband, so I met Bert's wife before I met him. He was slightly limping when he walked back out and he was very quiet spoken, as it was a very humbling experience to talk to him, because I told him that his music had changed my life since the time I was young person and first bought this album. I don't think it was a year later or so that I was driving one night in my car and pulled over to look at comments in a Pentangle UA-cam site with all of the peoples comments lamenting about his passing away. I was shocked to hear that he was gone, as I suddenly recalled talking to him that night and shaking his hand.
A genius musician and lovely humble bloke. Had the pleasure of just the two of us chatting in the toilets at a country gig. I bought everything he officially released plus lots else.
Pentangle is one of the most famous bands of Prog Folk style. If you will, you may read more about this kind of music at www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=6
Lucky enough to have seen them live ,along with ISB,Fairport Convention,TRex,Principle Edwards Magic Theatre,Pink Floyd{ barrett era} etc Fond Memories Still loving the music now
THis performance is about the time I first discovered the band. An incredible collection of musical talent. I loved how they took tradition songs and updated the instrumentation. The beauty and feeling of the old with a touch of the new that made them unique.

Thank you for posting this wonderful song!🙏I am very grateful to find such beautiful quality music from talented musicians in these days of uninspiring "algorhythm songs"...
Bert's guitar part is slightly different tham (but very close to) the live version on the TRA ' History Book' LP comp or on ' Bert and John', but it's so great to see and hear this fantastic rendition. Just sublime!
@@simonjones7727 I can believe that. I worked on a Norwegian Oil Platform many years ago, and the highlight of their Saturday night entertainment was watching a TV programme about milking goats. There wasn't a spare seat in the TV room.
the singer is the cutest thing i have ever seen and her voice is that of an angel
I don't know angel's voice, but I'm sure that Jaquie's is better.😇
No autotune and very live
my favorite group. Have seen all of them live at various times but never all 5 together. McShee has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard live.
This band was so under-rated that it is almost a crime.
The most beautiful woman ever to grace music

Yes. Germany is another good source for archive performances of this era. BBC wiped so many performances from tape..
Michael Igoe so vert but thank god they did preserve these.

@@Diomede-Lefort So great.
Great music. 1st heard them on NPR here n the states, in the 90s. Audio only! To see them online watch them is fantastic!!!!
Danny Thompson is so mesmerizing. Absolutely heavenly.
Love Pentangle, thanks!
Everything turns in circles. Each time I return to Pentangle my spine shivers my soul quivers.
One of my favorites. I still recall them playing the Fillmore West in San Francisco and doing this. It still sends chills down my spine.

Saw Pentangle at Troubadour Santa Monica in 60's then many years later saw Bert play there. Very special evenings
@@donnlarossa9173 I can't even imagine...
Yes saw Pentangle at the Troubadour in Holly wood late 60's then Bert again many years later what a treat.

When I was young I see them in Leeds and I was blow away, great musicians, Danny Thomson the best English upright bass player..
Where has this group been hiding? I'm shocked that I've never heard of them until today. Timeless music.
I have to laugh. Been listening to them for 50 years. Welcome to Pentangle.
check out cruel sister by them my personal favorite
Hiding? I've been a fan since the late 60's.
They are not hiding they have been hidden. We are force fed 5th rate crap instead.

😊 lovely live version of the song, would love a live version of lord franklin too, both songs ive liked for many years xx❤
Jacqui alway looked quite tense and self-conscious to me. But it never affected her impeccable vocals. Thanks for posting this. Fab u Lous.
I would like to thank my friend John who played me Pentangle, Bert and John and the Incredible String Band in 1967. It changed my life
Lucky enough to have seen them live ,along with ISB,Fairport Convention,TRex,Principle Edwards Magic Theatre,Pink Floyd{ barrett era} etc Fond Memories Still loving the music now
The original is by the immortal Anne Briggs. The greatest folk singer ever.

Lovely ♥️♥️
Just so great
As close to perfection as a five piece band is ever likely to get.
Nothing is ever new in this world. One has to look back a few decades and find some marvelous like this band.
fallen inlove 30 years late

i rarely use the word best, but jacqui... good god. and the band.. the talent and chemistry is among the best there ever was or will be.
Such talent and so young and hip!
FAV BAND of ALL TIME...
Just rekindled a distant memory
My Fav band period! Such a great influence on my playing back in the 60's till now.

thanks a felt 'n meltin' million ;)
very well recorded too!
Oh, man- I can feel LZ's That's the Way all the way through. Gorgeous tune!!!!
Why are all the great musicians on UA-cam, but so rarely on TV or mainstream radio?
I hit like before I even heard the song.

Jacqui was *SO* adorably hot and talented🔥
Wow!!
The girl has so pretty light eyes. Great singer too ^^
Jacqui is a unique person
Very talented and her new pentangle really shows it too
Just unique, never to be impersonated
Bass playing is wild
Jacqui was 25 here (she looks about 13!) What a voice!
She made 2 appearances last month, in Kent and Tamsworth.
Wow
Sampler is Betts best album by far genius guitar playing
Happy 80th birthday Jacqui McShee.
🎉🎉🎉,👌💃💯🎸
Could someone post the lyrics please?
The Orange Show, Houston....Bert Jansch
I wish John's guitar would have better recorded, otherwise awesome
Thank God for foreign tv channels… foreign to UK
God I love her...but every dude loved her ...step in line
I think I saw them on HEE HAW once?
ya saw a dumpster mimicking a rumor about sixteen empty haw hee ?
Reminds me Mary Hopkins.
At the beginning, the band look as though they are searching the floor for Jacqui's lost chin.
After the broadcast the switchboard was jammed by Norwegians protesting that the performance was "insufficiently depressing"
