“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
I'm old enough to remember "air-raid drills" but they had toned them down a little when I was in grade school. No going under desks, but we had to put our heads on desk with hands covering our heads. (Late 60s/early 70s).
The other day I was trying to research some intelligent criticism of postmodernism and Google just kept popping up anti-feminist searches without even postmodern in the search results. I had never seen an completely misdirected search in my life like this. However, now more and more of this is happening.
Yeah, Josh; your friend was in agony; you didn't know if he would die or not; neither did the nurse. You helped your friend. That's REAL compassion. Sometimes people have a miraculous healing, too; it's rare, but it has happened. It's up to God, who is real, to decide when our time is up. You did the right thing.
1:00 Josh what you are talking about in most of this conversation is how in the U.S. we have not cultivate a tragic view of life. What I mean by tragedy is not a choice between good and evil but between two good choices. Where choosing either one of those goods will have a downside.
I live in a rural area and someone broke down and knocked on our door at 6am a couple of months ago. Growing up I would totally have let them in. This time I felt super strange about it. We helped her with her car and sent her on her way but it was such an unsettling experience I'm still thinking about it.
The discussion about the sameness of places reminds me of a book I read years ago called The Geography of Nowhere. I may have to dig it out for a re-reading.
Catholic here. As has been described to me, the solution for an ectopic pregnancy is generally removal of the affected fallopian tube. This is life-saving for the mother even if the baby dies as an unavoidable consequence. But fallopian tube removal is not an abortion, and abortion is neither the intention of the surgery nor the reason for it. This is one explanation for why it is not immoral, though it is tragic.
I have a bachelors of arts in psychology. My school was a Left wing institution, however, I didn't walk out "institutionalized." And I don't understand what it is that separates my from those who were institutionalized. The Liberal arts is an institution unto itself I suppose. But the whole point of it is to enlighten you to not become a bot. And most humans just aren't capable of that. 🐿
46:00 Josh what you are describing is sociological credibility but on an institutional level. Individuals can lose credibility but so can entire institutions. You might check out the book "The Death of Expertise".
Is anyone subject to an addiction a competent person? Can they be trusted adequately? Is it analogous to a mental illness like scitzophrenia in terms of how we react to the person's behaviour? Are they to be punished or pitied?
Very interesting in that language ( words , context, meaning , information ) itself has manipulated such that individualism over-reach has subverted the collective experience perception. As you guys show this quickly becomes behavior... Culture has been changed not for the best
I really hate how we have all been forced to rent software now. I can't use my computer anymore without entering into and paying a rental agreement for all the useful software on it.
Even my hb and I will not get the same result when we do a google search independently with exactly the same words in the search engine. And we have pretty similar beliefs, education, age etc. Married 50 yrs we're kinda alike, 😂
You can't hold a cell phone on your shoulder. Even those handsets for a landline were hard to hold. And talking on a headset isn't always ideal and tech problems etc.
Regarding the question of 'how did we get from gay marriage to bestiality'- I don't think it's a natural progression. I think, like many things, it's a lack of discernment. Just as how giving people a 'second chance' can be appropriate with a functional person, but will never work with a Cluster B. Is the problem the 'second chance'? Or lack of awareness where to properly apply it? I think the latter. And why was 'the religious right' seemingly correct about foreseeing the issue? I think because they lacked discernment in the other direction. Assuming there was no proper context for it. And, many Others have lacked discernment, because too many in our time lack character development, which helps perceive these things. I don't think homosexuality naturally leads to 'immorality' nor is it immoral. But those who haven't yet grasped the concepts and context and definitions, the working knowledge; the maturity- like many teens and young adults, struggle to differentiate. And then you get things like LGB lumped with the betabits.
I love Josh's humility and willingness to admit he was wrong.
The matching outfits is a nice touch.
I noticed that too! Love Leslie’s sweater!
I miss that telephones worked during power outages.
That's why we kept our landline.
Hell yeah, we had an old rotary dial phone that we'd bust out when the power was out!

Almost two hours of Josh and Leslie!! 🙌🏽

What a great, heartfelt conversation.

This was such an interesting conversation, thank you Lesley and Josh!
two of my fav online commentators. Great screen chemistry between you guys, I hope one day you will consider doing a regular show together.

Don’t use Google.
What an amazing guy! Insightful, honest and sincere. I shall have to follow his work going forward. Thx L.

I love this conversation with Josh and Leslie. One of my favourite conversations yet and love Josh's good sense of humour and honesty

The idea of a moral pendulum really irks me because it absolves us all of our moral failures.
Interesting talk! Enjoyed it
Love you both!
This was FRIKKIN AMAZING!!!! Both of you were in my head!
Thanks! ☺️
I love you guys and your talks- each of you- so much~
This was so honest, so rational, so courageous. Thank you.
Josh looks so much better here without the TV makeup 😍
He's a handsome man.

Great example of something that would've seemed normal once, but now is really off-putting.
I can totally relate. We are no longer a high trust society. Stay safe.
YUSSSSS!! Can't wait for this one :D

I love Leslie's jumper
Great stream, guys. ❤❤😎😎
Thanks! 🙏

This is hilarious listening to Millenials bitching about the good old days. I'm a boomer, I wouldn't dare to admit to what I think most of the time!
Josh is actually with me in gen x, but I get what you’re saying.
I think one of his show titles was “Old man yells at clouds” 😂
Millennials? I''m 50. Leslie is almost my age.
Yeah, we're both gen x, but thank you for thinking we're younger! 😅
Generations is another divisive and nonsensical term as it is often used. In my opinion
When push comes to shove, it's time for the state to get out of Marriage. 🐿
You can't hold a cell phone on your shoulder. Even those handsets for a landline were hard to hold. And talking on a headset isn't always ideal and tech problems etc.
People still use the Google search engine!? Really?
I used duck duck go for a while but my laziness brought me back to google

The ONLY objective reality is science. I think pining for a curated information source is a bit naive.
