      @@burtbiggum499 Start by watching some UA-cam videos on how to sew by hand. Then if you don't want to spend a lot of money, I found a $300 Singer sewing machine with nothing wrong with it at the Goodwill store for $12. I bought a cheap quick adjust sling off of Amazon that has VERY good webbing (the "brand" was "DMAIP"), very soft but strong material, but it has terrible QD's on it, so I had to use a razor blade to cut the stitching out so I could replace the QD on one end of it with some decent BCM one's, and then used my sewing machine to put the same stitch pattern back into it. Works great and I saved a lot of money. The sling I got is made with really good material, but the QD's were unusable. Still worth the buy, if you're able to replace and restitch the QD's.

      My first project was a dopp kit(travel case) from Klum House. I used a very entry level sewing machine and followed the pattern instructions. I made mistakes and learned so much from just an entry level project. Small achievable goals is the key to sewing. I got discouraged with a larger project and had to step back and remember my skill level. Go to a local store and ask simple questions too, crusty old ladies love a man who wants to sew.

    I looked at the custom Blue Force Gear sling and priced it in excess of 100 dollars. After I realized that it was overkill for my amateur needs, I looked at the Mag-Pull MS1 sling and used one of the end points from BFG. I have tighten it very securely for precision shooting and it has never slipped. BTW the material that is used on the Mag-Pul sling is a proprietorial material made in Europe for Mag-Pul. It feels and moves great and is able to support a heavy rifle. I don’t think that there is a bad sling out there, but you can certainly over pay.

      If I get the ms1 I don’t get how it connects to my rifle? Do you have to buy the connectors that go on sling and then where it goes into rifle?

    • @CasualVitality
      @CasualVitality Рік тому +4

      @@Kgoutdoor Depends on what your rifle has attachment point wise. Most stocks have a QD (Quick detatch) socket, basically a hole that a QD sling connector fits into. You can buy the QD sling swivel on their own and add them to a sling, or you can buy slings with the QD sling swivels already attached. The Magpul MS1 sling and Blue force gear vickers have options that already have the QD sling swivels attached. You just have to make sure your rifle already has two QD slots, one on the stock and one on the handguard. If you don't have one on the handguard, you need to buy a QD sling adapter that fits into any MLOK rail. Hope that helps!

    • @jmmartin7766
      @jmmartin7766 11 місяців тому +1

      @@KgoutdoorMy magpul is the MS3 (the MS1 that comes with the lockable "squeeze" clips attached). To use it, I installed the "Paraclip Sling Mount" (on the side of my handguards-- about $20), and the "QD paraclip adapter" (on my stock-- $17). But you can always just clip it to your traditional AR swivels, if you want, until you decide how you want to use it.
      The result is, my sling is quickly & easily adjusted for firing; it's 100% removable in a hurry (a feature I really love at the range or anytime I'm doing AR maintenance); and it's easily convertible to single point, as Hop said, although I have yet to find a real need for that-- But options are always nice.
      Think I bought mine for about $50. And combined with the quality, adaptability, and ease of use makes it an excellent buy, imo-- No I don't work for Magpul lol.
      I do recommend a channel called "Regular Guy Training" where he did a review on this exact sling after years of using it as a soldier, frequently under combat conditions. What really sold me is he still uses this sling to date.
      Good luck-- just don't settle for something you don't want

Not for carry, because it just allows the gun to abuse your jewels when you’re on the move, forcing you to actually carry gun with hands- no good. 3 point is stable, but also in the way, all the time, and was conceived in a time when attachment options (to gun) were poor. 2 point, necessary. Quick adjust, necessary. There is no reason to not go this route today. Paying more than $100, not necessary. Bungee, not necessary.

    Own the slingster, its a solid sling my only issue with it is the massive adjuster on it. It adds bulk if stowing the sling to your gun, its also metal which due to its weight tends to swing where it wants and hit stuff on the gun. It has great adjustability and the pad is perfect. Im actually moving to a trex arms sling because of the metal slider. If your not stowing your sling to your gun then you need not worry.

    You have no idea how happy I was to hear you talk about how big and bulky the BFG sling pad is. As soon as I got one I had no idea why no one else was talking about how chonky it is. Coming from a cheap nylon web sling that was fairly thin it felt like I had a throw pillow around my neck. At this point I've gotten used to it. I also have two BFG Ak slings that have like triple thick webbing. What is with BFG? Put your product line on a diet. I dunno, maybe their weight rated for rappelling from an apache to slay a Balrog or some shit.

    I went the Ferro Slingster on the advice of an LE friend. Because I use a (right-handed shooter) over-and-under support arm, "twist," to lock in the strap Using this hold I was hitting, and occasionally activating, the slide mechanism. I then went with a GBRS sling. It has basically the same function but the adjustment is done via a pliable strap that does not cause the same problems. Magpul strap is very strong and sewn well, as noted here however the adjustment slide (plastic) piece does not stay in position. Good for belaying though...

    I do like the magpul and vickers slings but i havent tried any of the newer ones like trex. I do have a viking tactics which i dont really like for a few reasons. While the buckle adjust system works fairly well i do not like a loose tag end that is sooooo long i could hang myself with it. The other part about the viking i dont like is that the metal buckles are so heavy they TWIST the sling around alot AND they can mark up your rifle. I like the magoul and vickers because they are easy to use and leave NO TAG end to strangle yourself with and the sliders are light. Warrior Poet has a sling available that i would like to try... money is ALWAYS a issue for me though so i am limited. ALWAYS LOVE your content HOP keep it ROLLIN SIR! LETS ROLL!!!!

    I'm a big fan of the vtac padded sling, I've found them to be better at locking than the ferro slingster and I prefer how you pull on the webbing to adjust it than pull on the cam itself like with the slingster. Do you have any experience with vtac slings?

    The adjustable Latigo from Brownells is on almost every rifle I own, and even a shotgun, and I've been quite pleased with them. Not tacticool, but servicable and simple...and yes, they're leather.

    I know that this is a quick video about using a sling to carry your rifle. However, the right sling can be a great shooting aid. A hasty sling stabilizes offhand shooting significantly. Sitting or kneeling, a sling can turn your position from OK to rock solid.

    Edgar Sherman hands down makes the best sling. Ferro’s metal buckle constantly scratches your rifle. When you attempt to adjust the length, it never stop where I want. It has to slide to engage the cam, so it ends up losing tension every time I tighten it. Sold it it just a few months after buying it.

    I just bought an Ed Sherman sling because I got a meme gun I think it's perfect for: the M&P FPC. It's the lightest and least bulky rifle sling I've ever found with proper modern features like quick adjustment, plus it has the built in elastic keeper so I can fold the gun up and stow the sling on itself, then it'll just pop out and be ready when the gun deploys. I figure this is a backpack rifle and not something I'm likely to hang around my neck and hike with for hours, so minimalist is the order of the day.

    I use a repro garand sling as a shooting accessory, winding around my arm for support on what I shoot. That said, I don't any 22 calibres with little sling holes either, so nothing presenting will work for me.

    The best sling is the one that works for the one behind the gun, the gun, and the gear they're using. My preferences have changed over the years. From only using GI slings rigged in a multitude of fasions, to modernised GI style 3 position slings, and now after entering the modern era of gear have started using slings that give me the option of running 1 point or 2. Over the years I've changed( gotten older and more worn out), my gear has changed( from Alice belt and suspenders to molle plate carrier), my gun stayed the same but i needed a different sling to fit throughout the changes. The only consistency has been I prefer 1¼" nylon slings over thinner ones.

    Of all the ones I own, I like the ones I made myself from 3/4 inch webbing and little buckles I grabbed off old backpacks and old Walmart buggy seatbelts lol. Costed zero dollars zero cents. Not metal buckles that ding up the finish. Best part also is they gather up into a tiny bag with the MPX and others alot easier than let's say my Magpul one on the Rattler that is alot bulkier. I had to create my own quick adjust tho. And I like it better so far than others I've tried. Plus slings are expensive considering what they cost to make. Not bad if you own one or two rifles. But they add up fast when you have let's say 10 or so
