    In these Nothing Else Matters guitar lesson videos you will learn to play Metallica's biggest power ballad note for note.
    Appearing on their mega successful Black Album, Nothing Else Matters was a pretty big departure for this legendary metal band.
    The fingerstyle guitar intro is an absolute classic. It has lots of tricky little techniques (hammer-ons, pull-offs, wide stretches and harmonics) within it. After the intro the verse section continues the fingerstyle playing with some really cool open position guitar work.
    Overall, this Nothing Else Matters guitar lesson doesn't really go beyond the intermediate level technique wise, but it does display a large number of techniques.
    Metallica also decided to change things up a bit with this one and have James Hetfield take the main guitar solo. The result is a blues based, highly melodic musical statement that is short but sweet with minimal technical challenges.
    The first Nothing Else Matters guitar lesson video below demonstrates the intro and all of the clean guitar parts along with a few guitar fills.
    Also in the first video lesson below is the instrumental clean guitar solo section of the song. Since this part is made up of quite a few guitar overdubs on the record, I have instead arranged it so it can be played on one guitar. There will be obvious parts that can't be played with just one guitar, but I think the arrangement is a good compromise to what is on the actual recording.
    The second video is dedicated completely to the big guitar solo played by James Hetfield and the chords that are being played underneath it.
    Hope you guys enjoy it! Carl..

      Your problems are probably that you dont play every day, because else your fingers would get stronger, the skin thicker and not hurting anymore. If you want to learn guitar, play every day. At first the things you already know and if you nail that, start practising new stuff.

    My dad died 6 years ago (when I was 7 years old). He loved Queen and he and my mom had their favourite song... this song. I really wanted to learn how to play guitar because when I will learn this song my mum will be proud of me that I learned this hard song. Now I'm here I learned it in 4 months and I'm proud of myself that I can play it. It was my first song on guitar so when you are a beginner and you really want to learn this song then don't give up. I never gave up on that and now I can play this. When you don't have that desire that you want to learn this then you will give up in the beginning. I'm 13 and I'm a girl, only girl in my class that plays guitar.

    Thanks Carl for the effort you put into this channel and the lessons you provide. I have to admit I'm no Hendrix or Page by any means, matter of fact I have trouble telling a G from a C while listening to other people playing. That being said I stated playing back in middle School 7th grade and played for several years until sports and girls took over priorities and I ended up laying it down for good, and now 20years later here I am relieved that I've found this channel, your way of explaining the note and how to set up for the next makes things easier for me to try catching up for the years of experience I unfortunately lost. Thanks to you my 8 year old daughter (that I'm actually starting to teach) thinks I'm a lot better than I actually am lol.
    Keep up the good work and I truly appreciate your time and effort in helping myself and countless others learn this beautiful instrument.

    What a fucking treasure trove I stumbled into!
    Thank you so much for uploading all this quality material, man.
    It truly means a lot to me, you explained the final parts of my favourite song in a way that a beginner like myself could quite easily comprehend and then include with some others tutorial on this particular song i've found so that I can now play the entire thing in a way that I find both true to the original, but also challenging a bit beyond the original so that a freshman can play around with various aspects of the song and learn the basics. : )
    You're fucking amazing!
    I coulden't help but notice that there's however still a bunch of nimrods down here whining & complaining, bitching like a bunch of immature 8 year olds.
    I seriously cannot comprehend how anyone can complain about any of this...
    You took both time & energy to record this, upload it and a bunch of other material for free on UA-cam.
    That to me, is true love!
    Providing for others to receive the tools they need in order to get started with guitar, or improve their existing knowledge of the instrument.
    THAT is mother fucking caring. : )
    Keep doing your thing man, we need more people like you in quote "modern" society.
    Cheers from Scandinavia

    I am a beginner and have always wanted to play this.
    I decided to tackle it as my first full song learned even though I knew it was above my level. I wanted to push myself. And, with your help, I have tackled it!
    Learning this has made the easier things I am learning as a beginner so much easier. Thanks for the great tutorial. I am rocking a favorite by a favorite #Metallica

      The things that make this hard for beginners are barre chords(harder on Acoustic). When you started learning this, are you already good at barre chords?

    • @lonestarpatriot876
      @lonestarpatriot876 Рік тому

      @@ojsojs6004 I was literally still learning Barre Chords when I started to tackle it. I now have zero problems with them. I play at least two hours a day but usually more in the 4-5 hour a day range. I do so every day so like anything else in life, you get back what you put into it.

      Jacob C well, if we learnt how to read music we wouldnt need this turtorial, since i would just read it.

    • @FreeSilio
      @FreeSilio 6 років тому +2

      There's no need to learn to read music if you want to play scales.Just learn where the notes are on your instrument and consider that in E minor you need an F#. You can learn each and every scale if just know where the notes are, and indeed every musician should do that.

      Your neck on your guitar may have to be straightened, it may be warped, it should be a very easy fix, straightening the rod and using a humidifier are the way you should go, a warped neck may cause your guitar to have low contact points.

    I've been playing for coming up to 6 years now and I've always just learned songs and tried to cover them. I rarely practiced any technique over the years and I just stared with the Synyster Gates Guitar School. I've learned a lot of theory in the last two weeks and I just stared learning this song about 30 minutes ago and I already got all the notes down, just need to work on tempo and playing it a bit more clean. Ngl a few weeks ago I never thought I could play this into. Ever.

    • @somescottishguy191
      @somescottishguy191 7 років тому +5

      luckyxever just take it real easy to begin with man. I mostly just cover fingerstyle songs so using a pick is kinda alien to me but I'm getting there and so will you. You'll never really use your pinky. try to use your thumb for the 6th 5th and 4th strings, your index for the 3rd. middle for 2nd and ring finger for the 1st string and it makes things a lot easier. You don't need to stick to it for everything but for most standard patterns it works.

    • @somescottishguy191
      @somescottishguy191 7 років тому

      luckyxever also. Use only down strokes with the thumb and up strokes with the fingers for this song. Best of luck friend. I'm sure you'll nail the technique in no time!

      hey bro, i'ts better if you use you pinky and train it, always the harder way is better for you. also, you can always use your pick using your thumb and index fingers

      BlazerBlaze Arin You probably could just use a pick but give fingerpicking a try. it opens up a world of opportunities. Use your thumb for 6th 5th and 4th strings. index for 3rd. middle for 2nd and ring finger for 1st. Use only down strokes with the thumb and up strokes with the fingers. Give it a try and see how it goes man. You can play some real funky shit when you learn fingerstyle.
