I like what Lars said about challenging the fans.
Until it backfires so badly that a band can just produce real shit. Like Muse - Simulation Theory
I think he knew the true fans would still love them regardless, and that's how it should be
They always have done that. Otherwise they would have sound like the million metal bands that exist out there.
CJ Carpenter I agree to an extent. This song "Nothing Else Matters" still feels like a Metallica song to me. Now when it comes to Silverchair they write nor sound NOTHING like they used to IMO. They let the format of Silverchair die but kept the name. This has nothing to do with comparing Metallica to Silverchair but rather the concept of challenging the fans.

That riff is just a fckn masterpiece
I envision James writing the intro riff, noodling on his guitar while holding a phone with his left hand.
@@billtruttschel then how does he play with no hand on his guitar?
@@wandajames143 the first couple bars are just open strings.
@@billtruttschel Oh so such that is the riff?
@@billtruttschel that's how he wrote the intro
For many guitarists, this is the first song they learn to play.
Smoke on the water left the chat
This is one of my first fingerpicking songs I learned
For some of them, it is also their last song they learn to play
I beg to differ this song has some complicated finger picking stuff that most beginners cant do yet.
Wonderwall: Hold my beer
Love how Howard always tells people what their songs mean
Would prefer these clips to just start when the song does
@@JJB18 nah
@@JJB18 then just listen to the studio version LMAO it’s called a talk show for a reason😧
🤣🤣🤣 Howard was a rock star in another life.
I️ think it’s kinda funny but it’s also a good way to get the real story straight out of the gate
Thanks to the girl who dumped james so he can create this amazing song
Yeah lol
Metallica MIGTOW
It was Lars
@@ashtonr7879 no, it was james
Exactly!
25 years later...Still gives me chills.

It Was So hot I think It Was Lars. Got Faint From Heat.
I love the way the kirk is quiet in his and says only what is necessary
8:24
He's definitely the George Harrison of the band.
As all us introverts are.
kirk is a let down these days, they totally removed him from writing for the new albums as well as rob, thats why hardwired sounds soo tasteless and white
@@MrBrewman95 yes i love it about him
James' solo in this song is waaaaaay underrated. Short but powerful.
One of the greatest guitar solos in Metallica's catalog and it was by Hetfield.
@@57Joe I actually think it may be one of the best guitar solos ever and im not even sure why
@@halla359 Because it was written by a good singer with a ton of passion. The best guitar solos have a sense of melody that goes beyond the guitar.
I mean it's one of the most iconic solos of all time
Correct!
i am glad that they do whatever they feel like and not afraid of fan reactions . Cause their ballads are bangers
What Lars said at the beginning is spot on. Challenge the fans. Metallica has many creative ideas that are not exclusively limited to thrash.
Always challenge the fans….maybe sue Napster a little bit too.
@@Ahbenmautadine maybe copyright claim James Biggums’s excellent videos
@@k0slizard389 Lol
Saaaaaint ANGER round my neeeeck!
Sometimes I forget what an absolute monster James is on guitar. He's really f'n good.
effortless.
He’s better than Kirk
@@kermitthefrog9719 Not really though, maybe his solo's and riffs are, but when it comes to technical playing, Kirk is better
His speed when it comes to downpicking was absolutely terrifying back in the 80's. Man's a legend.
That James outro was AMAZING!!!! Thanks Metallica for this incredible power ballad.
Amazing...
This is why I think Howard is the best at how he combines live music with actual stories from the musicians...
As a 30+ year Stern supporter the reason he gets this is because a band like Metallica actually respects & feels good doing this with Howard...
👍
He treated them with a ton of repsect and asked insightful questions every fan wanted to hear the answers to.
Howard has the ability to ask good questions and pull musicians out of their comfort zone, while still being very respectful.
I see what you did there my friend
Damn that ending was fucking insane... they have never ended the song like that!!! Juicy
What do u mean
Thought that ending was great too! James changed to a different armony on the guitar everytime the main riff was repeated.
And Lars looking so serious, stressed and concentrated not to mess up everything... :D The ending was great indeed, thank you for the hint! Otherwise I wouldn't have watched the whole video.
@@danielvelikov4029 my interpretation was that James spontaneously improvised that all and Lars was very unsure where exactly he was going, so trying to stay laser focused to catch any signals so he could keep it together. I could be totally wrong. But I got the sense it was a rare chance to witness a little of the music-making magic actually happening ☺️
@@Syclone0044 So, would you say that James turned around then so that Lars could watch what he was doing and would have some clue as to where to go with his drums?
Gives me goosebumps every time.
Still a stonker of a song after all these years. 👏
Señor Trujillo was an exceptional addition to the band. 👍
Fuckin hard to believe he’s been in the band....EIGHTEEN YEARS now!!!🤯😳
@@Syclone0044 😳 no chit? Time flys
His bass playing is beyond excellent, but Jason had much better backing vocal skills.
I love how James is in the power stance 24/7
When music goes straight to the heart ….. for years and years and years and years …. till the end of life
"A love song from his brother Lars"
Lars received with joy... Hahahaha
7:49 the outro where they switched up the main riff was clean and nice as hell.
My favorite Metallica song. Just so powerful and honest.
James's voice... Legend.
So is Kurt cobain😢:( 1967-1994
As you get older and life beats the hell out of you ,this song will mean more to you than you will ever know...
This is one of my favorite Metallica Songs.
I think this 8 dislikes are some kids playing with his mothers phone. 🤣😃
Ahahahhaah 😂🤣, most likely
Or megadeth fans😀
Probably mothers playing with kids phone.
*coughs* boomer
HAHAHAHAH
I will continue to love this band until i take my last breath!
Now I am not a Metal guy, never have been, but I love these guys. Hetfield is the goat, without saying !
There's a sincerity to the way they all play it in unison and the way James feels every word he sounds that is quite frankly astonishingly beautiful
Will always be my favorite Metallica song
Howard just gets all the artists on his show. What an absolute legend.
This song saved my life ❤
I think it has elevated to be a song about the fans, without their fans they're nothing, and nothing else matters but the fans
lmao good one
Not sure if sarcasm or not.
@@_ProTrax 😂
'86 Master of Puppets Tour was a "mindblowing" experience.. So much energy put into their craft.... Seeing them now, I don't see how they have kept it up all these years...
In the late 1991, back in Bosnia (Yugoslavia @ the time) when the civil war was in full there at the time, my friend played a guitar and he would always do the cords while I would just strum on the intro bit of the song .... So many crazy memories................
I *cannot* listen to this song without shedding a tear
"sometimes its good to challenge fans": wise words from Lars
This song has both composure (restraint) and power. A winner.
Being born in 1988 I have to say that Metallica probly has had more influence over my life than any other rock band.
Ur old
I was in 1981 and im more expose on grunge rock. But i love metallica not the rockstar who has weird long hair like GnR or aerosmith😂
Red hot chilli peppers??
Me too
Having being born in 1964 AC/DC is the band that influenced me! The ‘70’s rocked!!!
I’ve likely listened to this song over 5000 times in my life and I still cracked goose bumps
Song still leaves goosebumps. Truly a classic. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
This songs always brings me chills
One of my favorite songs!! ❤️❤️
James Hetfield is one of my favorite people.. the whole band is great.
Amazing song!! One of my favorites!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Such a great song still gives me chills after all these years
Masterpiece; timeless.
These guys are all so talented individually and just amazing collectively
Love Howard and Mettalica, Lars has a huge heart.. Thanks for sharing this moment in time. As much as I love that window in time, I love hearing the feelings and stories behind it all. God bless.
Such a great song! I love this version.
Beautiful! I love this song ❤️ Ever more! Love it..the intro is just beautiful! Very nice performance!! James voice so beautiful here!! Thank you🎸🤘💕🙏
Wow..those ending notes gave me goosebumps.
Hearing the back story behind the song, now I love it even more!
Even after 30+ yrs , so frickin incredible 🔥⭐👌
Knowing how far James and the band have come emotionally and spiritually...Makes this song resonate even more.
One of the best pieces of popular music ever made. Soon to be 40, this give med chills. So much memories.
Defo one of the best songs ever composed and written...melody is just way past amazing!!!...loved this when i got the album in my 20's....classic and always will be!!
Could be one of the best songs ever written
@James Bond estamos hablando del rock NO de musica clasica
@James Bond as will this piece..
It is my friend, it is indeed
Truly.
Possibly my favorite song from the band!!🥰
best ending to that song I have ever heard or seen---thank you Het
As a long time Metallica fan, all I can say is, that was friggin" LEGIT!!!!! Needs to be released for download!
This is one band no matter what mood I'm in, their music always hypes me
Awesome,it brings back the time, memories..space everything..
This band is just incredible their songs are so meaningful and you hthe best guitarist musicians possible along with James incredible voi think they are just awesome thank you for making us all feel good with are songs
man james absolutely killed that end solo, some new touches on it that sounded great
My favorite Metallica song. I saw them do this last February and it was one of the best times of my life.
All the sounds are there... wonderful
The emotion in their facial expressions. That's the essence of this phenomenal band
This song for me from the way I heard it in the 90s till today presents me like some kind of a courage or bravery
Dam this tune never get old ! :)
Just 1 of many incredible songs this band has blessed us with.
One of their best, amongst many
Good call on releasing this song! It’s amazing! Cannot even imagine Metallica without ‘nothing else matters!’
I actually learned how to play this song watching this, still one of my absolute favorites to play. 🖤
Thank God for such generosity. Talent Overload.
I don't have SIrius and I am sorry. But I SOOOO freakin' appreciate these bands playing in Howard's studio. It sounds great, it has an intimacy I do not see anywhere else but the NPR "Tiny Concerts" and it is.... just awesome. Thank Howard and Howard's staff. You will almost make me a Sirius subscriber.
2021 and this is still a hit. Should still be getting radio time
One of the best song! And Band!✌💯🏴☠️
Goosebumps!
The song that got me through my teenage years!
Legends talking about creating a masterpiece that will never die
After all those years since they changed it up a little, I still miss the last verse. The way the Solo sustains through the last verse until the end of the song is one of my favourite pieces of music, ever!
What a master piece!!!
Just outstanding. More so when you learn the stories behind the songs...
Uno de los mejores solos de guitarra de Metallica lo hace James Hetfield en esa canción... ¡Simplemente impresionante! 🔥💙🤟
This song came out at the same time as Extreme's More Than Words and Mr Big's To Be With You.
What a magical time x
I don't know what James has put in this song but no matter how much times I listen this song - I get goosebumps and my hart starts pumping twice as faster. Metallica for ever 🤘
One of my favorite songs
I LOVE THIS SONG, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS AND I LOVE JAMES AND METALLICA.
Love the interaction between Lars and James. Beautiful!
Loved this song for 30 years now and now we know even Disney love this as they gave us Metallica in Jungle Cruise and I love that version too 🤘🏻😍
That ending was really just everything, unexpected and perfect.
I've been lucky to have been able to see them 4 times and I hope more and more. This song is one the most beautiful powerful positive songs ever. It has become a life Montra . Metallica one of the best !
I have seen Metallica, Disturbed and Linkin Park 7 times in concert. Love this song and Metallica's music, Linkin Park crossed so many genres and told life lessons plus Chester"s voice and Mike's rapping was amazing to Disturbs lead singer's voice and singing about life issues as well. I have a little bit of favorites for a couple of the bands but thank you for addressing serious real issues in your songs and proving that rock bands only scream and say nothing isn't true!
After 15 years of listening to this song I just found out it's a love song. 😱😱😱
love your music Thanks
Howard and his staff have been audience to the most amazing performances. Unbelievable.
Nothing else matters such a beautiful song the guitar work awesome James is amazing
Hey🌹all love and how are you doing today?
I always sing this song as a lullaby for my baby son. This song is that beautiful of a love song.
Ok I got a little emotional reading this. Amazing.
My favorite Rock Anthem...I have taught it to most every guitar student of mine.
THIS SONG WILL ALWAYS HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEAT ❤
