I have a 2019 GT PP1 with the 10R80 and it's a damn good trans. When using the paddles, it's only lazy when you're slow driving but it's that way for comfort and that's what the driving modes are for. When you're getting on it you'll see much faster shifts in both manual with the paddle shifters and in Automatic. When it's in Sport and Track, the shifts are so much more crisp and clean and so much fun to drive. The only issue I've ever had was when the trans temp is cold (A10 trans takes a while to warm up) and in Sport mode the 4-5 shift even at regular throttle sometimes get's confused and it shifts funny. This doesn't happen once it's warm or in normal mode. Because of that I now drive in Normal mode until the temps come up and then switch to Sport or track which you should be doing anyways. All in all the car is a blast to drive and the 10R80 has kept it fun even though I've always had manual Mustangs.
I agree with everything you've said and I think you've summed it off well. They really killed it with the 10R80, and people don't realize how good it is until they actually experience and live with it!
@@LuWeiHuang I've always owned manual Mustangs and was that guy who thought autos were for people who can't drive but I went into buying my new one with an open mind after hearing about the A10. Test drove one with it and knew right away I had to have it and it absolutely wouldn't get boring. Best of both worlds, much faster than the MT-82 car and still extremely enjoyable to drive. 15k hard and abusive miles in 8 months along with many 12.0 second 1/4 mile runs stock and I have loved every second of it!
Just picked up my 18 gt premium and from 4-5 gear I get a jerk or clunk. Seems to happen to a lot of other people as well. Any fix or ideas what I should do? Is it a serious problem
So you are saying that is is mushy and slow, but in sport/sport+/track modes it is responsive. Hmmmm, sounds like it is doing what it is supposed to do giving the driver options depending on the desire of the driver.
jpat99 You’re right and it does do a good job. But the ZF 8 speed don’t feel lazy even in comfort and the shifts are very consistent, very similar to a dual clutch. The 10 speed just doesn’t feel like that in comfort/driving slowly. Again doesn’t mean it’s a bad transmission, just a little comparison to other trans out there.
@@LuWeiHuang the ZF is amazing. In track mode it shifts firm and insanely fast. By the time you pull the paddle you are in the next gear commanded and it goes. How the hell did ZF do it? Probably one of the best torque converted transmissions ever hands down.
@@LuWeiHuang trust me i know exactly what ur saying i owned a 2020 scat pack 392 hemi those literally feel super fast and fun to drive...for some reason my 2021 gt 5.0 10speed huge delay im not use to that at all

I'm absolutely in love with my 2020 GT Mustang 10spd. It's even better than the manual. Let me explain. People liked the old manuals because... it's so hard to learn right!?! I mean do you feel accomplished??? I mean My ex wife never drove stick before. I asked her if she wants to learn. So ya I tell her how to drive a manual in 60 seconds. She never even killed the truck. Not that day anyways. It's not hard people. If you feel like a bad ass because somehow YOU and 90%+ OF anyone that has ever actually tried. ANYONE... But keep on feeling like your the captain to a kickass ship exploring the world ONE shift and clutch disengagement... Congratulations u did it. U can drive a manual... If automatics stop working for some reason or maybe they design a better Manual transmission someday that's better than the 10speed is. Than maybe you need to keep driving a manual because your cool or a bad ass cause your toughing it out now in a manual or someone will heroically build a better more reliable faster manual? THAT hope is slowly fading away. If anything. More And more complex transmissions will be coming. Even for electric cars. They could operate with a mulit geared 10spd trannys for EVs too. To some people driving a manual changing gears and working the clutch, and being good at it used to be how u were able to drive a slower car better than someone that can't shift gears in a car that should beat yours hands down. But Now automatics have NOW become hands down the best choice to make you happier due to it being the faster, more versatile transmission type that is more efficient than a human could ever be. It also Lets you drive it just like a manual with no clutch. So literally the only thing most of us would miss, is being able to pop the clutch. But the new coyote engine and transmission is so much better, faster and much more Versatile than any every day manual transmission or any other automatic transmission I know as of today. We love to shift gears now still. But it's going forward going to be considered mainly just a NOVELTY. It's no longer quicker. It's just cheaper to buy and repair. But u get what u pay for. The ten speed has now made other lesser transmissions basically obsolete, or at least OUTDATED. YOUR Welcome.
Johnny Jayy Don’t worry too much about the issues. Its been a few years I’m sure they’ve worked out a lot of the kinks. And like I say to others, the positive experiences far outweigh the negative experiences, I just wanted to bring to light everything that I have seen about this transmission. Heck I bought one knowing that there were complaints and I’ve had a great experience so far! At the end of the day I love the 10R80 and would strongly recommend it to anyone considering it.

You were kinda bumming me out saying the paddle shifters take a full second to shift when driving regular, but then in sport sport + and track then they are way more responsive
HNTR _34 Don’t be! I just wanted to be straight forward with my experience. The 10 speed does not respond consistently in regular mode and is slow to shift sometimes ONLY when you’re driving slowly. As soon as you start driving a little more spirited, the transmission starts to shine. I vouch for this transmission and am very happy with it! And everyone should be considering how freaking fast it shifts when WOT.
Subbed. Informative video. Quick question. I have the 5.0 10r80 as well. My car tends to jerk quite aggressively when I put the vehicle in D (drive). It jerks every single time I put it in D, from P. Is this a known issue? Has any one else experienced this?
There is a software update the dealership can do to stop the lurch forward that happens when you put it in drive. It will also fix the aggressive down shifts.
The Cons Are The Pedal Shifters, They Suck Cause When You’re On Sport And Want To Manually Shift, It Takes A Second More Than Any Other Car With Sport Mode

Hows the Mpg situation? Cause I heard Ford main concern to add 10 speed was trying to do better mpg on a GT mustang.
In the city I used to get around 16-18 mpg. Highway at 75mph I averaged 25-28mpg. So not bad for a 5 liter V8 that drinks gas.
