- I get a lot of questions on why I bought a manual and which option I recommend for the 2019 Mustang GT so I finally decided to make a video and tell you exactly what my thoughts are for those interested in picking up a car!

Percentage of time driving mine that I wish it was a manual.... about 10%. Percentage that I love it being an auto and that it just shifted better than I could have... 90%. Percentage of time that you will love driving a 460HP beast no matter what stirs the pot ..100% If its a daily driver and you live in the city, a manual is a huge pain in the ass. Also, acceleration in the auto is almost like an tesla.. just a constant buildup of speed with no head bouncing off the seat between each shift.. Its like a rocket. Unless you are in Sport or Drag mode and the shifts slam like a hammer, but all forward.. no clutch dip. I had a Challenger RT manual for 2 years and loved it, but the Auto Mustang is much easier and fun to drive around Phoenix. And don't forget, when taking the twisties, you get to steer with 2 hands and never be in the wrong gear, never miss a shift. The fact is there are just different benefits to each. There is no right or wrong choice. Except getting the Camaro. That would be dumb. ;)

@@gabrielbenslay4298 Get it. I've had an 06 and a 19 and both were awesome. The newer ones are better though of course, with 160 extra horses. I haven't even though of modding the 19, whereas my 06 had intake, exhaust, tune, nitrous and still not as fast as the 19 stock.
You made a great point. In a manual, every shift is different. So it's always a different experience. You never get bored.
But what YOU want either way your still going to hear the same shit all the time. "Auto is faster" oh yea well "stick is more fun" the cycle never ends

I went with the manual in my 2019 GT because I wanted to be more connected to the car. Anyone can drive an automatic. If you want to go fast, just mash the gas and go. Where is the fun or the skill in that? I fond that it keeps me more focused on the road too. It's my daily driver too so it is a commitment. Bigger issue for me was what to do when the snow comes. Rear Wheel drive and Michigan winters don't mix. My wife has a truck though, so now we will just take her car when we have snow. Win-Win.
If you were to invest in some Continental Extreme contact tires for your Stang, you wouldn't have to many issues in the snow. Just a tip 👍

I mean with V8 muscle/pony car the point is to be faster in a straight line, and the 10 speed auto is without question true faster transmission, so why even need a manual? The only kind of cars that need a manual are track or rally cars like the type r, Sti, Golf r, etc. V8 are meant for automatics since you're mostly just going to be going in a straight line

I went manual and always will. As long as I can still beat 392s I’m ok with my decision.
Im more of a fan of manual as well, and I will, if I get the chance opt for shifter, but the 8 gear automatic does sound really nice though

@@thighgamingalexo28 the mustang never had a 8speed trans. Its been Only the 6spd manual and 6spd automatic from all the way up to 2018 they replaced the 6spd automatic with the 10spd. They still use the 6spd manual tho. The camaro ss had a 8speed trans before they gave it the 10spd in 2019, you might have gotten confused between the two.

Many people now a days just want automatics cuz its faster and easier to dive but theres nothing like going thro gears and being connected to your car. Its all about your preference in what you like. Good video 🙏

My 19 is a 10r80, slap that sucker in sport mode and it's like no other auto, period.

I prefer a manual transmission. It is just more enjoyable and gives you more control.
That’s what paddles are for on autos now, so you can be in control of it when you want.

I have daily driven three generations of Mustangs since 2000. I would be bored out of my mind with an automatic. There's so much more control and pleasure shifting your own gears.
Really it’s all personal preference. I bought mine because I love the experience of driving the 6 speed. It’s about taking it out and having a good time. Had I bought the car strictly for track times, surely would’ve considered the automatic. Can’t go wrong with either but it’s manual for me for what I bought the car for.
I am 50 years Old and every time I drive my Manual I feel 19 early 20's again.. That's what it does for me... It's spins me back to the best Days of my life! When I was young and everything was everything! Also When I was Younger that was all we drove, were manuals back then.. And we didn't call it Rev matching.. We just did it..
I’ve driven a manual as long as I’ve been able to drive and wanted to go with a manual on my GT. But, since I live in AZ, remote start was a must. So, I went with an auto. I still absolutely love to drive it, but the manual is definitely fun.
Even though I would enjoy the 6sp I went with the 10sp and 😍 love it. It’s all about what the driver wants. As long as it’s a Mustang!!
Driving an auto transmission is very comfy and relaxing.
But if I want that I will take a seat in a train or on my couch 😉
I'm an old guy who grew up during the late 60's when cars like the 440 Charger, 390 Mustang, 396 Chevelle ruled the street and they all had 4 speed transmissions. Automatics of that era sucked but were fine for family cars. Anyway I'm probably driving my last car, a 2023 Mustang GT 5.0 with a 6 speed transmission and it's glorious. No racing or drifting but simple cruising around town and in the mountains around Denver. I'll admit modern automatic transmission equipped cars are amazing and are actually faster but the manual shifting just feels right to me.
I daily drive my 6 speed and I live in the Bay Area but I still love it 😍 it brings me more joy than hate
Sick ride! My first 3 cars were manual Fords. The second and third were Mustangs. (Wish I still had that '66.) I have never been more excited about new Mustangs than now! Ford nailed it this time! If I get another Mustang, it will have to be a manual! For me, an automatic Mustang would just be wrong!
They're both awesome. I went with the 10 speed. Live in the city and this is my daily so made the most sense.
I would love a stick shift but, LA Traffic and track performance is superb in the 10 Speed.

Manual muscle car FTW!! The thing is manuals may be a thing of the past some day. Many performance cars today don't even have a manual option.
Looking to get a 2020 Mustang GT and thought I wanted a manual, but you’re making me rethink that.
I saw that the AT gets 0-60 in 3.9, but the manual is 4.3, so there’s a clear winner. I won’t really be tracking it (but who knows), just prefer the faster one if I had to choose.

My friend owns a charger hellcat (auto of course) and he also owns a 2016 challenger hellcat with the 6sp...His track car is the auto,his manual car is everything else.Hr loves his manual,theres nothing like them for people who can drive and appreciate the fun u get from it.

A lot of y’all Manual owners probably watch Fast and Furious too much. All you can say is “Manual is more fun” but the Automatics are faster!

I love my 2000 Mustang Coupe 3.8 with a manual 5. Gravel roads are where it shines the most
Test drove the 10 speed, it shifts very nice and quick, smooth, but it almost felt like I was cheating, it left too "easy" to drive.

This was/is my question. At first I am thinking auto, and a friend agrees "you'll hate a manual in traffic". But then I thought, "I'm retired, I really don't sit in traffic". I never had a problem with a stick, from a 70 GTO 4-speed to a Ford Escort 5 speed so that's not an issue. And yes, an ICE w/a clutch should be fun.
Most importantly I love to lazy granny shift and listen to that exhaust note! Then come to some good rev matchin downshifts at a light! If I’m being honest I’m no certified racer and I’d enjoy manual a lot more no matter where I’m living.
So torn on what decision to make.
I have the mindset of "its a Mustang, it should be manual" but at the same time, the car will be winter driven, daily driven, and I drive in quite a bit of traffic on a daily basis.. daily driving manual wouldn't be an issue. I dont think winter would be either. Biggest thing is sitting in traffic.
I do about 20 minutes of traffic in the morning, and another 20-30 on the way home. Every Friday I cross a bridge with about an hour of traffic both ways.
I love the sound of manual downshifts & it’s more fun but I live in a city with traffic everyday . Only planning on owning one car .

Manual all the way. I bought my 2017 Challenger SRT in manual ...no hesitation. Waaaay more fun. Out of every 10x I take the car out... I might race someone once maaaybe twice. Also... I beat automatics all the time. Most people out there do NOT know how to drive a car aggressively. Even if it’s automatic.
No offense. I drive the 6 speed manual on a decently modded 2017 coyote. I get smoked by anyone in a manual. No way you're beating Mustang 10 speed with your 6 speed.

17 Manual here as well. I really considered going with an 18 auto but love my supercharged 17 Manual. If I had a drag purpose car definitely would go auto but for the street and roll racing I love the Manual.

10 speed auto ONLY on these 2018+ GT’s. The manual transmission are super weak. I would get a 2013 get with the mt82 over the new one
Why not get a 2018 manual and put a 2013 6-Speed in it? The older 6-Speed will make the 2018 faster anyway due to the better gear ratios
331Grabber it’s a good idea but I don’t think many people think about that. I think the auto here is just the better transmission. I have a 2011 GT500 now and that TR6060 is amazing
Not true!! I hammer my 16 GT PP all the time. No trans issues! Only thing I did was swap out the shifter for a Barton. Autos are faster but completely boring!!

Hey man, great video. When you're in the road and you go like 80 MPH, how about the revs in 6th gear, because the automatic has 10 gears! so I guess the motor its very cool at that speed

It really depends on the driver and transmission you get with the car. I have a 2022 Mach 1 and went with the 6 speed because it has the Tremec. If I were to have bought the GT I would have opted for the auto since the 6 speed is an MT82. Had one in my 2013 Boss 302 and absolutely hated it, just my opinion.
10 Speed Auto for me, because I live near a city with a TON of traffic... plus the 10 speed is quicker. People say manuals are more fun, but to me, what's more fun is being able to beat the guy in the other lane. 10 speed makes that a bit easier.

automatics are more chill to drive. You don't have to worry about anything. you want to go you release the brake pedal, press the gas and you go. You want to stop, you brake. I'd get an automatic but only with shift pedals (i love those things)
I live in SF so I had to buy a auto - hills ain’t the business. If you live on a flat plane - manual is the way to go.
I am automatic type of guy cuz I just like paddle shifters but if I wear to take a manual I would take a shelby gt350r, I hate manual just because of driving in traffic
This is what I try to tell my customers. If you’re going to the drag strip a lot and are just chasing times, get the auto. If you want the extra engagement, get the manual. We sell a lot of 401a 10 speeds.
Now that the 19s have auto rev matching. I wouldn’t mind trading my 17 for one. I can rev match on my own. But sometimes I’m lazy 😂 but I’d likely buy another manual. Even though the MT-82 is a terrible transmission.
Everyone has that mindset and i see why but id like to set up an 18+ manual for drag racing just to be different because NOBODY does it because everyone on the internet says youre not supposed to. Drag suspension weight reduction fbo ported cj manifold, short shifter, 456 gears and get that bad boy tuned on e85 with over 500 whp on tap damn that would be so fun and could still lay down some pretty fast times not that much behind a similar modded 10 speed if you can drive...and youd be different from everyone else all while still being able to have way more fun in normal cruising situations
is the MT-82 really that bad?
I bought a 2013 mustang 5.0 with a 6 speed manual transmission. Now I’ve got a 2018 5.0 6 speed manual. I drive a manual transmission car because it’s more fun and I’m in more control of the car. If I just want a fast car I’d just get one with an electric motor.
If you modify to any extent get the transmission you want. The manual gets more power to the ground but has waaaay worse gear spacing. So toss the 2018-19 MT82 and get the better older MT82 with 5th gear 1:1 for more under-driven gears and get a little shorter rear gears like 3.91s or 4.10s. Unfortunately that's the only way to make up for the superior number of under-driven gears in the 10-Speed auto until they make an 8-Speed manual or something.
I agree that would be ideal but tossing 456 gears in the back of the new one would get a similar result for alot less money. I see what youre saying though and i agree
People dont seem to understand that the gearing is the main advantage the new 10 speed has. Everyone thinks its faster because it "shifts fast" that plays a very small part in the overall grand scheme...gearing is 85% of it and that can be somewhat made up for by changing gears out in the rear end...this is all assuming you can actually drive which half the 10 speed owners prob cant lol

Yeah. I really want to see a roll race between a stock A10 Mustang GT vs a stock 6M GT both with 3.55 gears and both locked into their respective 1:1 ratios. 4th for the 6M and 7th for the A10.
If the A10 still pulls on the manual there's some factory tuning shenanigans going on.

Tbh it’s a tough decision because autos have become so great now and you can shift it when you want but more expensive to repair not as fun but it I had to chose I’d pick the manual
The 10 speed auto no doubt. Get gapped at the strip all day by 10r80's if you have a manual. If you are using it for road course fun then get a manual but if you intend to use it at the drag strip then 10r80 no doubt.
If you have the stock shit ass gearing maybe. With some good gearing that actually compliments the coyotes powerband (kind of like the 10 speed does from the factory) the race then becomes much closer. If being a tenth or two faster means enough to you to sacrifice alot of fun from the car...get the auto
all the people nowadays want the auto but there's a certain purity of a manual transmission car. It really does depend on the purpose of the car. I own mine to simply enjoy the car.

I'm a Mopar man, and I'm really digging the mustang. Maybe next year, I'll ditch the 392, and go for a GT. Manual cars keep you engaged, and more alert imo.
I chose the auto for my 18 mustang because I heard the MT-82 is shitty in the mustang so I didn’t want to deal with it. Plus I just use the paddles if I wanna control my car myself 🤷🏾♂️. The auto is fun

I prefer my auto -14 gt after owning the manual for a couple years was great on the highway but I stay in a city area just was lil more displeasing , but with my auto I can do both with my current set up I easily beat manual and before say user error even pros mess up. So personally I prefer auto
i’m still conflicted. on one end, i want a 10 speed automatic. fastest stock car out there, with upgrades i’d never lose a race. but i love driving manual cars. i love the connection. i don’t race that often either, but even if i did surely the manual version isn’t THAT much slower than a 10-speed, right? it would be a say driven car to work, the gym, the store etc. idk what to do
Be honest please. You have both the Ford Mustang GT and the Dodge Challenger SRT. Which one of these drives better, handles better, gives you utter joy and excitement? Which one would you rather keep or never think of parting with?
The 10speed automatic is awesome and crazy fast guys but as a manual guy it’s more fun to get a stick bc you can always modify it to make it faster than a 10speed just saying
How do you get a smooth shift at high rpm. Do you release the clutch slowly? I find myself waiting a long time for the rpm to drop in order to get a smooth shift.

yea im gonna do what you said ngl. test drive both the manual and a automatic and see which one i would want. Not gonna lie i would prob drive it a few times a week. mainly because I already have a car rn and could use it as my daily driver. the mustang gt is one of my dream cars and i cant wait till i get one but this decision between the manual and the automatic is hard for me. im only 17 at the moment and i hope at least i can get this car before the age of 21-24.
I know this is an old video but if anyone today is looking in the comments.. I myself own a 2012 5.0 manual. But living in Texas there is a lot of competition and fast cars! So me personally I’ll be getting a 2020 a10 5.0 and hope to TT it in the future 💪🏼.

Performance 1 auto black hands down... If I could lease it. But Ford doesn't do lease programs/incentives on the 5.0.
Manufacturers are making it harder and harder to decide. Manuels helps you feel more connected and the car more predictable, but the autos are faster, with better gas mileage, and nicer for 98% of your daily driving. Can't fault a person for picking either one.
It takes skill to drive a manual and it’s sad that it’s becoming a lost art. Yes, technology has given way to automatics that are great at straight line performance. Yes there are advantages to an automatic but I agree the manual has a certain connection with the car that you don’t get in the 10R80 automatic. I recently got a 2019 PP1 with the manual and I absolutely love it. The new transmission seems to work fine for me, although the different gearing lacks a bit of the snap of the S197 with the manual and 3.73 rear. I get Mopars and auto Mustangs constantly doing the flyby bs....you’re faster, good for you. I enjoy the car purely for me and not to prove to everyone else that it’s fast....kind of funny too when going in for service and the advisor has to call a tech to move the car.....can’t drive stick....LOL.
I got one thing to say....install 456 rear end gears and thank me later...
P.s. might wanna throw some sticky rubber on the back because youre gonnna have plenty of "snap" after the install

Not like you cant win races with a manual lol. I hate when people say that yea the auto is quicker stock by a few tenths...much of that is the gearing its perfect for the coyote...however the new manuals have shit gearing and it gives it a big disadvantage performance wise stock for stock. If youre staying na i recommend 456 gears in the rear of this new mt82d4 its so long geared...especially if youre going to be raising the limiter even more than stock to 8k+. Shifting at 8 with stock tire size and 456 gears would still have you reaching 130ish at the top of 4th gear so you would not need to shift to 5th before the quarter mile ends assuming youre na. I think that would close alot of the gap in performance between the two assuming the manual has a good driver. Idk why more people dont do it on these new mt82 i guess people are stuck in the old way of thinking (11-17 mt82) and think 456 is insanely low and too low for the application and that isnt the case on these new ones.
Michael Harris I’m manual all the way but yes stock for stock bolt on for Bolton autos will always win I own both manual and autos I don’t mind I live banging gears but also the fastest cars out there breaking records r mostly all autos

I own a Mustang GT PP2 and I wish I got the automatic. I'm in 5mph bumper to bumper traffic 90% of the time. It's so bad I may eat a loss just to trade into an automatic.

I actually prefer a fast shifting auto over manual found of European cars. But when it comes to mustangs and camaros I prefer the manual. The shift delay when you hit the paddles is unacceptable on a performance car.
For me I like auto. 2 reasons, 1: Adaptive cruise control is miles better with an auto. and 2: With a 700 horsepower car, you kinda wish you got it.
I personally have an auto for a couple of reasons. Where I bought my mustang the automatic had the V8 and the manual was a four cylinder. Also they're are too many hills here.

I own a 2015 manual and I have more fun with it I feel connected to my car I would definitely get another manual which I'am looking into for the 2020 GT
It all depends, do you want to have fun or do you want to win? If you can actually shift then you can do both.
all depends on the uses really! got the manual ss 1le camaro for fun and track/mountain roads and the automatic silverado for everything else and in between haha
I own a 2023 Chevy 2500 turbo diesel and I just bought a 2020 used ford mustang GT automatic with 50k miles on the dot so my wife can drive it. I love her so I let her play with my toys since she’s used 😅 when I get the 2026 mustang new after I learn about this one then it will be manual just for shits and giggles. I can say that shit automatic can keep up with manual cars any day. They made this one good

Have you had any issues with the manual? I've read and seen videos that the manual is weak in the 18/19. I would never 've racing in any form, just a fun weekend toy for years and years to come so it's not like I'm gonna beat on it
