☠️ Deadly! This "Plant Emergency Food" will kill you in a survival situation! 😲
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2023
- This plant rightly bears the title "The Tree of Death" because only a small amount is deadly poisonous. But there is an edible double, which can lead to dangerous confusion. I'll show you how to clearly identify the edible and poisonous variant.
All the best,
Vanessa

Thank you for not ignoring this tree's long relationship with archery: I first HEARD of yew trees when I read about how the English used to make longbows for their armies out of yew. It's been used for millennia, from the European Stone age through the Middle Ages to the Victorian era, and even in America where the California Indians used "Pacific yew."
The German Yew tree ( Balderschwang ) is a colourful tree 🌳 with 2 hollow tree trunks a if you can extract the seeds the berries are edible to eat and yes you can make a Berry marmalade with them 😀, if a tree is colourful it dose tend to mean it's dangerous and non edible.
❤️Vanessa.
In England we call it the Yew tree (prounounciared closely to you). They are abundant in most cemeteries here. They are known to live for unbelievable amounts of time, as their boughs become so long and get so heavy lower down, that the bough (branch) touches the floor and grow from here. There is a very old one near where I live Downe Village in Kent...around 5 miles from me and Charles Darwin (known for the theory of evolution), used to go to this church and the Yew tree growing there was there back then. They were traditionally used for the manufacture of the English Longbow. Great video on how care must be taken when searching wild edibles
Thanks for sharing the information on the Yew tree. They are not native plants here in the United States but are grown as ornamental plants. It's nice to see how well you look, since your illness. I know you suffered a lot but have recovered so well.
They actually grow wild here in the PNW. Along the coast most of Oregon and a tiny bit in Washington. They aren't plentiful but they are here. I've got a staff curing now that I plan to carve into a bow next year.
I didn't know they were that poisonous though. I knew you don't eat them but not that they'd kill you! I also didn't know the fruit were edible. Learn something new everyday.
@@patrickhenry8425 Thanks for the info!
@patrickhenry8425 Pacific yew actually grows inland as far as NW Montana. We have adjunct temperate rainforest in North Idaho and NW Montana.
@@aaronwilcox6417 Thanks for sharing the info.
You make a very good point that just because animals may eat a certain plant, that is no indication that the plant is safe for human consumption. Lots of edible plants have deadly lookalikes. Positive identification is crucial when foraging for wild edibles. Another great video, Vanessa.
The location where they grow gives a clue; and witch animal is eating it, like wild pigs or horses!
Ahorn nuts are ready when well prepared, raw is not a good idea!
Uncooked potatoes or the leaves make you sick!
Thank you for doing this video Vanessa! You have alluded several times to making tea with the needles, but I cannot find those old videos. They were done in the fall or winter. After seeing that, I did more research online and found that the Pineneedles are very high in vitamin C, and making a tea with them will prevent scurvy. It doesn’t taste very good, but it’s very healthy.
Along the coast here in the United States in Virginia and North Carolina, we have another variety called the Norfolk island pine tree. They only grow to about 4 feet tall, and they grow well in sandy soil along the coast. The important thing to remember about this tree is that it is NOT edible, but it is poisonous. I don’t know what the symptoms are, but I’m certainly not going to try to find out.
And it’s great to see you getting healthy again after your illnesses. And surprise, you are wearing a skirt! Very feminine.
So as not to miss the next video..thanx vanessa..at 78 never too late the learn from a lovely long haired intelligent informed young lady..thanx
It's nice to see you again my beautiful friend. It certainly pays to know your trees and plants out in the wild.Thank you for your time and knowledge. 👍✌️😊♥️🌻
An excellent descriptive video, Vanessa!
Hello wild woman Vanessa👍👍 Sound advice and information. Many plants here as there are in the same category, best left alone. Love these educational episodes, your insight is inspirational. Helping us stay alive shows your love for us, thank you. Waiting for the next one. Enjoy!
Thank you, Vanessa., for this video. It's great to see you again, and having more knowledge to share with us..
I enjoyed the video - It is always good to have the knowledge of what not to eat in a survival situation.
I am SO glad to see you back! Thank you for this knowledge… I’ve always liked pine needle tea, but would only select “white pine” for fear of others that might be toxic.
I love your videos, and can’t wait for the next one!
Please stay well, and smile often.😊♥️
Wonderful video! Informative, helpful and maybe save lives.
I admit I was distracted from the point those cute boots came into view. You wear them wonderfully!
Nice to see you again, Vanessa!
You look much better now!
Best wishes fro an old man fro Brazil 🇧🇷
Here in Florida we have a tree, the manchineel tree, that is called the tree of death by some. It's considered one of, if not the most poisonous tree in the world. Unfortunately it has fruit that looks like crabapples or something good. :/
Even standing under one in a rainstorm will blister your skin.
Wow! I’m in North Carolina. I’ve never heard of that tree. Around here we have the Norfolk island pine. That is also poisonous. But handling them is OK and they are commonly used as decorative trees indoors because the only grow about 4 feet tall.
Good to see you again Vanessa enjoy watching your videos ☺️👍
I am so happy! Maybe I worry too much but Vanessa is really important to me. I discovered this channel from watching Survival Lilly at a really lonely time almost three years ago and have been hooked ever since. I used the same technique for putting a chicken on a spit at my camp that summer. As a 54 yr old Canadian man, I didn't know how to identify the different softwood trees...duh!...but now I do. Thank you for teaching me.
I discovered some interesting information about the Yew tree. King Henry the 8th passed a law that still exists today. Yew trees were to be planted in all the cemetaries in the UK to ensure that there would be enough wood to make longbows. Check out the Virtual Tour of Sligo Cemetary on UA-cam. It is really interesting to learn of some of the spooky traditions from the past.
the Fortingall Yew (in Perthshire, uk) is said to be between 2,000 and 3,000 years old,
when you start thinking about a living creature of that age ... its amazing,
Happy Friday vanessa! Always nice to see you back again...
We also know this tree as Taxus and it also has certain medicinal properties.
Well done, as always, Vanessa! It is this type of education that sets your channel apart from the other brushcraft hosts. Thank you so much for being very safety oriented. It is an affirmation of your honest character. I can't wait until the next episode. Prost!
There's another tree called "the tree of death" so I thought I'd mention that the tree you are talking about, yew tree, is pronounced similar to "you" in English.
I have seen trees like this in Tennessee, USA before. But it might be a different kind. Thank you for the education.
In Norway we have a lot. The tree is called Barlind, and people are cutting off branches for use in Christmas decorations. Then the tre start to get a messy and bushy look after some years of growing because of all the human disturbings... 😁
Very interesting, and useful information. I never knew any of these trees were edible. I have heard of people making wine from pine trees. Thank you for this useful piece of knowledge 🙂
Hello Vanessa you are a very great educator and I like the video a great way to learn thank you for the work you do to brings such great videos to us stay happy 🦊🏆🌺👍
Thank- you, Vanessa. You gave me a smile today!
Thank you for the information about the different tree's. Nicely done on video!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
Impressive range of knowledge about nature. I've watched many of your videos the past couple years, you are very good at what you do. Thank You 😀
Thanks for the great educational video Vanessa. Very informative and useful information. I'm going to pay a lot more attention to the trees around me now. Take care and thank you 😊.
Thank you Vanessa for a nice and interesting video! 🌲😄❤🦊
Thank YOU for watching my friend! Wish you a great weekend!
I knew some of that but now I know the rest of the story. Thank you for the information
We have ornamental Yew trees growing on our property here in Wisconsin, USA. The local deer will eat the foliage when food is scarce during our long, cold winters. I can't understand how they can eat this toxic tree and survive, but they do.
Ive been away for a bit; and im glad to see you still doing these videos. Thank You for this particular one. Extremely informative...
Great content. Thank you for sharing this. GOD BLESS YOU!
You're looking very lovely, Vanessa. I'm so glad you seem to be in good health.
That was really good work and interesting. Many thanks
Thanks for the valuable tree knowledge , we all enjoy watching yer videos
Great information. Thank you for sharing this!
😉Enjoyed your video Vanessa. Have a nice weekend 👍👍
Thank you pretty lady, very useful information there.
Great information to have! Many thanks.
Thanks for this informative video, your looking well. the Yew tree in Canada is an ornamental in gardens . I really appreciate you doing this video I love learning from them. Id like to learn more about mushrooms that are edible and non edible
Greetings from Southern Georgian Bay Area. Wild mushrooms would make a great addition to a shore lunch. On the north shores of Franklin Island there is wild rice growing.
I have it! I see, and thank you Vanessa. I see in your video is Eike- my favorite! Bye for now, and always much love for Vanessa from Oregon, Al and Merry Christmas !!!
Thank you for such an informative video .
I have learned to not a lot watching you post your shows still gotta say from day one you are still the most beautiful host ever
I am forester waiting retirement.
I recognise tree, Latin name Taxus Bacata, have poison Taxin.
Poison is in nedles, branch, root, only fruit soft part isnt poison but seed is also poison. I tell from school for sure. Have a nice day.
❤. I must have missed this one. Thank you.
Awesome
Good info video Vanessa as you can never have enough knowledge about what to eat or make drinks from in the wild. Get it wrong and it could well be the last time you do.
Great learning video, Thank you
In my country this tree is called "Cis pospolity". Apparently the fruit of this tree is edible, but I have never tried it. It's not worth the risk. 😊
Thank you 💓
Good info Vanessa
The video is very interesting, very beautiful, you done a perfect explanation 👏. Hello happy weekend 🍀👋

Thank Venus Blank,our🇩🇪😇from🇮🇹🇺🇲. Holliday.
you are so wonderful like nature
I love all the information you give on your channel! I've always loved the forest but never paid attention to every detail on plants and trees until I started watching your channel so thank you for explaining what is editable and what is poisonous
Your looking healthy very lovely
Before end of vid I had to look up Yew tree thanks to bonsaimaster205 below.
I only knew them as hedge row bushes as a lad in the 60s, squarely trimmed.
~ As a lad I had odd habits, one being to check the texture of leaves 'n seeds/pods, and scent of all I passed.
Those red berries were slimy and I messed with them on pals. But I couldn't pass a Yew and not tug off a few leaves, loving the way they snapped in my fingers when bent. ~ My tactile sense has been developing of odd since I was 7 or so years old.
~~ Thanks for the video Vanessa. Although I don't think I'd be using pine(s) and the like unless very bad and trying to avoid scurvy...tea 'n such.
~ Ahem. Cute skirt 'n knee socks li'l lady. (even though dark/drab colours)
you really are a good teacher. you have a lot of knowledge.. good work < J
For mice, that's why you should only eat fresh hikers and forest walkers, (Europe) those that move are still fresh, rarely poisonous, less dangerous than bears, or wolves, or puma, they also grow in the forest just like mushrooms. ;-))🐁🐁🐁🐁
❤
👍
holy shit the HAIR...good god the Hair, wonderful
Mostly find yew trees in church graveyards in England , guess to ward of evil spirits i so I was told one 👍🙂
I'm alone: no whiskey, cognac, vodka, tea, coffee, cacao,sugar...🤭 All is very, very ... cheap...🤣🤣🤣... Thanks for Democracy ❣️
I remember years ago that used to be a cereal commercial I think it was Grape-Nuts the guy would come on there and say that pine cones were edible I can't think of the guys name
Euelle(Yule) Gibbons

Hi Vanessa! I am Antonio from Uruguay. May I make you a question? Where have you learned English. Best regards.
In America it's called in different directions. Your doing find Trees grow ing in different directions. .its called present tense, not past tense. You're awesome we love you✌️😁🇺🇲🇮🇹😇🇩🇪. Your doing find. English is a bitch to learn, but you'll get it, I understand you fine. My wife is , 100 percent hungry. I understand accents. I had to learn it. 🇩🇪🇮🇹🇺🇲😇😁✌️.
Taxis Baccata.
🥰😍🤩💋
so beautiful and sexy lady 💋
Is the "tree of death" the yew tree? I ask because when you pronounce it, it sounds like chew so I want to make sure.....thank you and please make more videos like this.
Yes :)
@@WildWomanBushcraft Thank you so much for writing!
There was an earthquake in turkey, 35,000 people died, we are not camping, I'm watching you vanesa, our pain is so great, pray for us, thank you
Vanessa, splendid job, I enjoyed learning about the Yew tree. Since you are an excellent instructor please create more of these videos. Your English is very good!
"if" in french....
Only eat what you know 😇
True!
I need my Vanessa fix.😉I hope you are ok BEAUTIFUL girl.
What is the Latin name, please? This looks like a Taxus to me, perhaps Taxus baccata? So how do you spell the German name that you mentioned? "Tsjuw"?
Yes, Taxus :)
The second part of this name (baccata) is the variety. There are quite a few varieties - but all with the poison trait.
What year you born?
really did you smoke
