Vanessa, your home is amazing! Even the cellar is fascinating...that's a dehumidifier that you're using. I would say it would be better to open the windows to let the air flow through. Also, your aquarium is gorgeous. I've never seen one more beautiful. Your home is your haven. It's beautiful, unique, and cozy. And you are right. We have so much to be grateful for if there's a roof over our heads, warmth in our home, food in our bellies, and love in our hearts. I'm so delighted to see you looking healthy again. Thank you for returning to us with such an interesting video.

I always love your perspective on living simply. I too share the belief that the blessings of simplicity far outweigh the worldly perceptions of being “rich.” Your success and richness in spirit, knowledge and wisdom are far more valuable than than any paper degree or position achieved solely on the idea of having “more” instead of being more. Thank you for sharing your journey. I glean much joy sharing with you.

Hi Vanessa, It's so lovely to see you looking so fit and healthy after your reported illness, and I absolutely love this video. Your beautiful home seems to be like a 'Tardis'! I love the character of older houses. Your roof space office is so impressive and essential for your work. Great classic guitars and amps and all things music. Every room has your character written all over it with beautiful plants and aquariums. It's been a real joy and a privilege to have seen inside your home, and thank you for being the perfect host!💕💑💑💕

    Regarding your cellar:
the moisture reading given by your dehumidifier is probably relative humidity, which means that if you increase the temperature in the room, the humidity will be lower. This is simply because warmer air can hold more humidity. However, this obviously comes at a cost: one more room to keep warm, and potentially you might not be able to use the cellar to store food.
Thus the only reasonable solution I can see is to stop the moisture form entering the cellar in the first place. Ideally you would do this by eg putting a drainage ditch around the house, but this would be expensive. There might already be some form of drainage around the house, but this is something you would have to look into. One way of doing this is to dig a trench, starting at a house wall and going out into the garden a meter or three. If there is something buried in he ground, it will show up in the trench.
Regarding the covered-up door: you don't have to open all of it. Get yourself an inspection camera and then drill a small hole in the wall. If when drilling the hole you suddenly find yourself drilling into "thin air" you can feed the inspection camera into the hole, and see what shows up on its screen. You then have more information with which to decide on whether or not to tear down the doorway.

It just needs a simple vent pipe to the outside. I helped dig one when I was a kid. It would be +40F inside and -20F outside. One would think that cold air would flood in down there but it didn't because heat rises. Summer It would run about 60F and up to 90F or more outside.

Dehumidifier, the word your looking for !
For the closed off door, get a USB inspection Camara, at least 5 foot in length, then just drill a small hole near the top just so Camara will fit and go from there. Make sure the Camara comes with its own light .
Have a great day,. Also when saying progress, the gr sounds just like in great. :)

A good dehumidifier should help - a good one is expensive tho - if you have any way to run a fan to the outside would help a lot - some way to keep the air flowing - good luck. AC/DC is my favorite band - love your collection - it’s way bigger than mine!

Wonderful video Vanessa. Thank you for allowing all of us to see your private living space. And what a wonderful home it is.
I was really impressed with all the greenery, the plants, the aquariums. You have a very comfortable and friendly home.
Lots of people here in NW Montana have wood "stoves" and burn wood. Many burn wood "pellets" which a local timber mill produces as a by-product of lumber production. Anyone can get a permit from the Forest Service to cut "standing dead" trees on US Forest Service land(government land). Last year the permit was $US12.00. one person can cut up to 8 "cords" of wood for free.(1 cord = 3.6 cubic meters) As I write this we are getting ready for the snow storm that will arrive tomorrow morning. People were out splitting wood today. 👍👍 because Monday morning the temperature is forecast to be -22C 😉
Heating your house with wood takes time and effort but...the "politics" of energy in Germany being what it is😎...As long as you have a supply of wood, you will never be cold. The cost of natural gas and electricity is about to go up pretty dramatically all over Europe. So maybe you are lucky to be able to heat with wood )))

HI Vanessa, you have cozy and friendly home. Nice, nice, flowers, lights, quitars, colours.
"Cellar." You can make a small hole in the wall, approx. 20x20cm. The wall can be a load-bearing element. If you make a big hole for a window or door, the ceiling must be supported by a professional.

While in the Islands, we enjoyed the use of the Steel Drums as instruments at Calypso parties which sound a lot like the Handpan. Tube technology too has features that are hard to replace! With nothing but glass separating the room from radiating current, the ambiance enjoys natural feedback to it's source.

Cold air does not generally hold a lot of moisture. Its possible with all the people living in the house cooking and showering that it some how gets down there. The floor looked damp. You may need a sump pump and or perimeter drainage around out side the building to carry water away from the building. An exhaust fan connected to a humidly sensor would turn on when the humidly gets high. Get a cheap humidity sensor to see what your humidity is. Compare it to the main house and the outside humidly and tempeture. It should give you an idea of where its coming from.

You have a really awesome house! I laughed when you discussed windows. Everyone has something we don't like to do! 😃 I loved the various aquariums and the plants everywhere. You really have done a great job with your house. The cellar was cool to see as well. I hope you are able to get the humidity down in the room so your fruit won't rot. When it comes to the sealed up door in the cellar, I think it'd be a good idea to drill out a hole large enough for you to see what's on the other side. If the next house to yours sealed theirs up too, there's the possibility that there's some empty space on the other side not being used by anyone. You might as well use it! Drilling it out will show you if they filled the entire tunnel or not. Thanks for showing us around your house! Glad to see you up and feeling better. Keep Smiling!

As for your cellar! You need to seal every part of it where cold air can enter. Then you need to get yourself a proper dehumidifier that works. The one you have should be removing water from the air. It probably has reached its high limit for holding water and now simply is just running the fan. The compressor has probably shut off. A proper dehumidifier has a compresser that is filled with Freon of some sort and a fan that blows air from the room over the coils of the compressor. The compresser coils will sweat out the water from the fan air over the coils and drip them into some sort of a holding tank that you have to empty on a regular basis until the humidity in the air drops to about 40% or lower. Then it will need to be emptied less often. Some water holding tanks have a drain in them that you can direct into the floor drain if the cellar room has a drain. If not then you will have to bring the water upstairs to dispose of it. Read up on how a proper dehumidifier is supposed to work and you should see that any good machine removes moisture from the air that has to be disposed of. Older bigger dehumidifiers usually have the coils exposed at the back of the machine that you can see and observe that they are sweating out the water from the air. That way you can also keep an eye on the coils because sometimes they will freeze or ice up. This usually indicates that the coils are dirty and need to be cleaned or that the fan is not blowing properly as it should over the coils by possibly being blocked off somehow or running on too slow of a speed. I would say you need a proper working machine that produces water from the air. Usually bigger is better and usually more simple to work on. Good Luck As for your hidden door, behind it has probably been filled in with dirt before the door was sealed up so I would only ever drill a small hole large enough to stick in a lighted camera, but I would bet you will only see that it has been filled in. Good luck again

In the cellar, the machine is a dehumidifier. If possible, put a small wood stove in the cellar and run the pipe out thru the window. Then in the fall burn wood for a couple days which will take the dampness out of the walls and really dry it. Possibly when dry you could then watch for where the dampness starts first
If it were mine I could not resist poking a small hole in the sealed door and sending a light and camera in. Best wishes

Hello Vanessa you have a very nice home with some lovely things, the seller is in a not so good state your looking at a lot of money to put right , only looking at the drainage of water thats around the seller will fix the damp problem in the walls and in the air , the air humidifier you have will work for the short term but the long term some home drainage needs to be done to rectify and dry the seller out of the wet damp that in the seller .
Vanessa people with money problems need to look at their selves and say what can I do for myself and what help can I get from other people to get me out of my problems .

Maybe the warm air upstairs has high humidity and as the air sinks into the basement it condenses that moisture down stairs. Maybe. If the humidity is low upstairs and high down in the basement then its ground water seeping through the floor and walls. Since its cooler in the basement cold air holds less moisture. So cooling air raises the humidity and raising the temperature lowers the humidify because warm air holds more more moisture.

Store water bottles in your cellar. Water from the air should condense on the bottles. I'm glad you are feeling better WWB 👍

I know what you have in the safe. My heart ♥️😁👍. I am so happy you're up and around. What a beautiful house. Cellar problem get a water meter and find where the humidity is coming from.
