I loved the video Vanessa. The forest is beautiful, the decorations were beautiful and I loved the story of how you decorate your Christmas tree and that the Christ child comes at night for the children. What a wonderful way to teach children the true meaning of Christmas.
They are called gaiters. They are great to keep your legs dry against rain, snow and critters. Here, in North America, we have gaiters against snake bites.
In your dear cabin, I don't see the difference between day and night, it's bright all the time 🕯☺

You have done a wonderful job on that little cabin. Merry Christmas.
In your privy, you should install a 1" thick blue foam insulation on the seat. Cut an opening for the hole. They use nothing but this in Alaska where it gets down to 40 below 0 and the instant you sit down on the blue foam, you feel warm. It's an Alaskan secret. Those are called Gaiters. They cover your shoe and go up your leg. Guten Abend John

for the toilet room, i highly recommend a homemade oil lamp, for both light and heat. the kind with a metal can over the top to catch and radiate heat.
you can make it with the cheapest cooking oil and larger size so it burns for days and days. with this you'll never have to worry about frozen water in there when staying for a weekend or longer.
i have used one that holds 1 gallon (3.78L) i put an old style coffee can with a few horizontal slits on the sides over it but not fully covering it. with the wick low it lasts for a week! and since oil can sit for very long periods of time, it's always ready for a light.
mine sat on the floor near a corner, so i put some heat shielding on the walls there. i kept it there because i had a small pipe from something else and used it as a 'cold air intake.'

Such a beautiful forest with your cabin sitting in it, I would love that . What a cute little tree i love that the kids and you decorate the tree for the animals so they can eat how kind of you. I do not like black trees , like you old fashion decorations, i like blue and silver or red and white with the star . your was very pretty. very interesting explaining Botany to us. I feel we all would be much healthier if we used natural plants to heal us. we call those things on your calves Gators in Ontario , Canada. used mainly thru the winter closed with snaps and Velcro. I am watching this Jan 2, but it is putting me finally in an Xmas mood. I was too sick to travel to see my sons and grandson then. Your cozy cabin Christmas is wonderful, all of it. And there is nothing like sausage! But I wish you had snow fox Xmas. We did on Vancouver Island this year. Beware that True-Crime stories are addicting. And can affect your outlook on people!

I remember in a cold-weather camping trip that you did a couple of years ago you showed how to make tea with Jay think it was juniper needles maybe? Or spruce? When you put them into your water bottle, then heated it up to make a tea. I have been looking for that, but I’ve not been able to find that video, so thank you for showing that again.

Wow, I love these straw stars. I used to make such decorations myself, but now I just don't know where to get such a straw. We used to go to the field after harvest and pick up nice straws. now everything is done by machines and straws are not suitable for handicrafts. I also like Christmas trees in two colors. Although I change them from time to time. This year I have a very small Christmas tree, it only has candle-shaped lights, pine cones and dried citrus slices. When I was a child, there was a tradition in Poland to prepare a Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. When the house was cleaned and most of the dishes were almost ready. Decorating much earlier now. I enjoy it because I like to keep them longer. And by the way, I envy the beautiful forest, I live in England now and I miss the Polish forests, as beautiful as the German ones.
Oh yeah! Our tree is put up a few weeks before Christmas! We use many old decorations handed down through the generations, and multicolored lights!

I was very impressed with your knowledge of the medicinal properties of moss which were discovered by the medieval people, and passed down through generations. The food you made looked delicious! I wished that I liked eggs. I was most moved by the way you make the December celebration magical for your children. It is an affirmation of a wonderful mother. This time of year should be full of wonderment for kids. I am not a religious person at all, so I celebrate Secular Gift Giving Day. No tree or nativity, but always gifts of course. You can heat and maintain heat faster Venus using a clay pot heater. Basically speaking clay flower pot six or eight inch. Take a plate and suspend tea light candles above the plate using a little metal mesh, like a Bird Suet holder mesh works good. Then light the candles suspend the clay pot just above all of it. The clay will take in the heat and radiate it. Just be careful as the clay pot will get quite hot to the touch, it will work far better than the small candelabra your using.
