I love my Speidel fermenter. I recently bought a couple of SS BrewTech BrewBuckets just because I've been slowly converting all my equipment over to stainless, but this fermenter is definitely top end as far as I'm concerned and I will be keeping it around and using still. Cheers!
I have two of those, love them for when brewing with large dry hop additions. Regarding the tap beeing low - turn it 180 degrees (since the outlet beeing uncentered) and it will give you some more space for trub. When racking, just losen the tap ba bit and turn it right. I use mine with an extra tap on top with a blow off tube ist.of airlock. That makes it easier to do a close transfer and I do not risk the airlock running dry during heavy fermentation.
Just doing my 1st batch of home brew in this fermenter. Mine came with the extras. The volume markings would have been nice but I got mine from other youtube videos. Other than that easy to handle and a nice unit.
I have one very similar but no tap at the bottom. I like it for beers with no dry hopping because of the restricted diameter lid. If I am dry hopping I use the stainless steel conical or a basic fermenting bucket. Great review Dude👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just bought one of these. Mine came with bits included, so maybe they've copped on. Totally agree about the lack of volume level markings on the fermenter. But I think it can't be coincidence that the 23lt mark is exactly at the bottom of the top band. So that's handy to know.
Thanks for the honest review of pros and cons. The hoop ribs on the outside look a good strengthening feature, But does the rib moulding extend to the inside, because I would prefer a completely smooth inner wall without any moulding, to avoid trapping some yeast during settling?
Iv got the 60 & 120 liter versions, only thing I don’t like is on the 120 liter one it has a hard to clean part “on very bottom” due to the blow mold process and I also have the dip tube accessories. Losses are 4 liters with the dip tube I also modded mine with chiller coils thou the top lid
120! Wow you must be doing some big batches, I was tempted by the 60 but I'd have needed to upgrade all my other kit to be able to fill it properly lol
Dudes Brews I brew for a restaurant/brewery “contract brewer” 2 bbls a week usually! Use “4” 1bbl Stainless tanks and have a couple of the speidel FV’s Brew Kit is a Stout brand 1bbl 3 vessel setup All electric total 16,500 watts in elements
What size tubing fits the spigot? Everything I’ve tried is either too small and can’t get it on (even when heated) or way too loose and I’m afraid it will leak. I’m considering getting clamps to get them tight
I have 5 of these over the 3 sizes, I agree that the lack of calibrated markings is irritating. About the tap being too low, yes it is but did you know you can pull the orange tap and lever out and put it in the other side and this gives you a better height. The most irritating thing for me though is that when trying to decant to the FV I find the tap next to useless as the hole in it just sucks air bubbles in. Also difficult to attach a pipe to it. What do you think have you found this a problem? I am looking to find another tap to use with it. Otherwise great FV's
not quite as easy as a normal bucket but you can get your whole arm through the gap at the top so took about 5 mins with a sponge to get rid of krausen ring last time, no big deal
Luv your channel but I can not see the point in spending double the amount on the such like as a ritchies fermenter which is very similar but not as thick plastic @ £14.50 from the same supplier. Plastic eventually does stain and harbour scratches over time so they need to be cheap enough to dispose of them also the extra cost of the tap and airlock is a P155 take. If you are so minded in spending money on a better fermenter the extra would be better put to a Stainless steel one IMO having said that a great revue
Beer Baron it’s a legit argument on the price and I was borderline on whether it’s worth it tbh but I do think it will last significantly longer than other plastic FVs and will be easier to clean and maintain, that said I can’t argue that it will eventually degrade whereas an SS FV could be used indefinitely with the right care and maintenance so yes SS would be my preference too long term but I guess it’s more a question of budget on that front and at this time I couldn’t justify another stainless one (yet!) 😉

Great review Dude👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have a smaller one, which has lasted many brews without problem and fits in my temperature controlled fridge. Great quality.
What temp do you keep your Mead at?

smooth on the inside all the yeast settles straight to base for me, cheers
Nice honest review mate. Cheers

@@kennygraley824 cool! thats some serious kit, i'm jealous now lol
Nice big opening for cleaning. If you could fit a float take off, it would overcome the low tap position.

Any updates on fixes?
Thought you had the s/s fermentor? or is this to have to brew with it?
yeah I do, this is the backup lol
I'd be interested to know what cleaning it is like after fermentation has finished. Guessing not as easy as a fermenter with a larger opening.

is 30 liters to the top?

can you still disassemble the spigot to clean?
Dude! What happened to your storage containers??? lol. Nice vid.
Dazza upgrades! 😆
is it suitable for wine making?
Yes I have just recently used it for wine worked great
