Seriously, this is the most sensible review of the CX-30 I've ever watched. You reviewed it the way Mazda's are designed for. Mazda's are designed to be driver-centric. It's meant to be enjoyed, to be DRIVEN. Mazda's don't go with crazy power, but adequate to get the business done with acceptable consumption. A Mazda of this size is not meant for a growing family; a starting out, may be, so don't expect ample rear seat space. I see a lot of reviewers scream and shout about the rear seat space. Can't they judge it for the purpose it was designed for?
Anyhow, Sarah, thanks for a most sensible review.
Exactly!! It's not meant for a family... just one person who occasionally might have someone in the backseat... or like someone said if you have a dog (which this car is basically me) and do the occasional not so hard-core off roading... if they want a family they should go to the cx5 or cx9
And it does come in turbo
Meh...The Crosstrek has always managed to have decent rear legroom. It just needs to offer the 6spd with the 2.4T...or the Crosstrek with the 2.4T.
Exactly!
Hey Sarah, after watching this video several times and many more of your reviews, I finally made my decision and picked up my cx-30 Carbon Edition, today. I did seriously consider the turbo but decided against it for a few reasons. Bottom line, after the first 100+ miles, I love this car. The red leather interior is gorgeous.
Thanks for all your reviews Sarah. They, and you, are the best.
I bought this car with the 2.5 Turbo trim and its by far one of my favorite cars I've ever owned! So much fun to drive. I look for excuses to take it out!
Mazda is 100 years old today, 30th January 2020. Love Mazda. Long live Mazda!
What an incredible breath of fresh air! Sarah is in a league of her own. So impressed with her sense of humor, her high energy level, and her wealth of knowledge. Subscribed!
"If Mazda put the 2.5 turbo in this car". Yep, they did for 2021!
They did
Yep, just bought one. The sport mode in the turbo is no joke. I'm nervous driving it. Lol
And it has a zero point turn radius.
I plan on getting one on Tuesday! Just the base package though so no turbo but still a great overall car
Only in the US....
It’s almost like Mazda watched your review and changed all the problems.
This is one UPBEAT, positive, fun, funny 😅, and knowledgeable presenter! Very informative and hilarious at the same time. Nice !
Mazda is just killing it with the interiors.
They're killing it with everything. No goofy experimental CVT bullcrap, no turbos where they're not necessary, simple but nice interiors, just simple and practical.
Not surprised about your reactions. Mazda is the only Japanese company I've been paying attention for some time. They've been overlooked for to long.
I Agree, We like our older Mazda3 and will be a great used car for someone. 38,000 miles on the 06 model. We only drove this car in the Summer and undercover during the winter.
Still link to Ford or Mazda went alone
ChristianX Z owner mazda ford split in 2008
3:05 Nice.
Jokes aside, this is the most entertaining car review I've ever watched!
Not sure why I finally just found you. I’m a Mazda owner, for one. This popped up this morning. I watched it. You’re awesome. Subscribed ✅
I love how Mazda was able to cleverly lift an existing platform (which is quite good in it's own right) and get a very, very competitive "CUV". I think this actually makes more sense than most of the CUV's in the market. Great Review!
@Just think The critical reviews are very positive, however sales are indeed poor. Hope Mazda gets back on track quickly. They are a bit of fresh air in this automotive world of sameness.
@Just think What about the CX-5 is terrible? They are very comfortable, they don't feel number, like a lot of other CUV/SUV do, and it actually looks nice. They are a smaller company, that has a smaller market share. While they have had to adapt to a changing U.S. market, they continue to offer innovative engines, and stayed focus on driving engagement.
Pretty sure they were referring to the generation 4 Mazda3. I personally think the gen 4 Mazda 3 made a few mistakes compared the gen 3. They made it lower, going from 6.1 in ground clearance to 5.5. MIght not sound like much, but if you're a car person living in a snowy area, you want that 6-6.75" sweet spot (which is so rare now...). They made the windows even smaller and pillars even bigger, adding to the claustrophobic feeling. And last, I think while some may like the blacked-out look of the wheels and trim, I have a feeling it looks too "try-hard" for many.
@@jeffk412 fast-forward to 2024 and the CX 30 is Mazda’s second best selling CUV just behind the CX5!
Yeah...so cool how it goes up that hill !!! And...black wheels to this white and black color combination would look awesome !!!
Love the looks of the CX 30 but couldn't stop thinking, Sarah looks like Jennifer Carpenter from the old TV show "Dexter".
I really appreciate your humor, and the fact that you push the car, and take it off-road......even though it's light off-roading, thanks!
I like that you leave your little blunders in your videos. That really makes them fun to watch!
Brought the cx-30 the base model AWD in black & I still luv it I can't wait until the snow
Great review. You're the only reviewer that mentions the cylinder deactivation.during the Garage Science segment.
Just bought a white one, take delivery next month - no stock in Australia have to wait for the boat to come in.
3yrs later and Sarah got her wish. 2.5 turbo now availible.
FINALLY!! Someone else who likes the plastic cladding like I do! I’m moving to the mountains where it snows so I’m trading in my soul red ‘18 Mazda 6 GT turbo for this! Great review! Thanks for sharing❣️
2.5 turbo...check! Such a fun vehicle to drive. Love my 2022 CX-30 2.5 Turbo. 250hp. ;)
I wanted to buy this car last year after covid hit and car companies were handing out deals. I ended up with buying another Mazda 3 premium only because the CX-30 was NOT offered with a manual transmission! I test drove it and it was nice but then got back in my 2014 Mazda 3 six speed stick and immediately ruled it out. I just like a manual transmission. You are correct on the Mazda premium adaptive headlights too, those things rule when you live out in the sticks like me.
Thanks for your review! You did a better job than any Mazda sales person could ever do. I think I just found my next car. BTW, I agree with you. I prefer lifted hatchbacks too.
This car is my first car! I got it 4 weeks ago today! In black with select package.
1st car! You're so lucky
I’ve always loved the Mazda taillights 😍
They’re like red robot owl eyes! The headlights are also beautiful!
This CX-30 is absolutely Gorgeous!!! Classy, Preppy, sophisticated, fun and capable. Couldn’t ask for more in a vehicle! Awesome review of this Beauty!
Sarah you have such enjoyable video's thanks for all the good times, and great info that normally doesn't get put into a car review.
Lifted hatchbacks are the best, just got a 2022 version of this vehicle 🔥
Haha, this review put a smile on my face. I have the CX-5 Turbo so I haven't paid much attention to the -30, but glad to see Mazda made a good car.
I am looking to buy the same car, if you don't mind, can I ask you how much you paid for it out the door? I am planning on getting the Signature Turbo one.
@@dhirajjdewan8069 Check out the CX-5 w/ the Skyactiv-D (Diesel)
@@dhirajjdewan8069 I got the GTR in white at $33,400 before tax in CA. This was back in June, so your mileage will vary depending if you go for a 2020 or if they have a 2019 in left over.
@@SarahnTuned good idea! Thanks Sarah. By the way, hope you get well soon. Love watching your videos, you are a very beautiful soul.
Raj Dewan 2019 cwp sig owner here paid 36200 out the door taxes everything included this is back in June.
Over the years I’ve owned three Mazda 3 hatchbacks and two CX-5s, my present one being a 2018 CX-5. And the CX-30 is looking more and more to be my ‘spare/fun’ vehicle. Great vehicles for the price, especially this one.
Yesss!!!! I love this car, I'm so glad someone took it into the dirt finally!!! I sooo wish it were manual though...
Only in Japan :(
@@talpolano4549 Aaaand in Europe too 😜

Thanks soooo much, we're huge Mazda fans!
Just purchased the 2022 CX 30...this lil SUV drive is crazy fun comfortable,stylish...I'm loving it💞👍🏽🥰
Love all your car reviews Sarah. You are the most fun to watch analyst and after watching your video, my jaw hurts a bit cuz I find myself smiling all the time. Love this review on CX 30. One thing is missing though. You often at the beginning of the video, raised the car up high and showing details of the chassis and explaining the components. All in all, 5 cookies, 5 penguins, and 5 beans. All the best Sarah
Got rid of my 3 as it was too low for me, due to spinal injury, looks like the 30 is an option now though. Nice looking car.
I’ve got the 3 and as much as I love it it’s a super low ride and like a sports car. Hubby loves it and won’t stop raving about it even though it’s not his car. I’m thinking to get this as my mummy car as it’s higher off the road. Love Mazda!
What you called the hill decent button is actually the Off road traction assist button. Almost like x mode but tuned quite a bit differently and almost smarter in a sense.
Love your reviews!
Nice delivery, well done...I test drove the turbo CX30 the other day, I did womp on it at it just plain got up and boogied! But I ordered the 2023 non turbo and it should be here the end of Sept, I figured if I had the turbo I would go broke putting gas in it because it's hard to not mash the gas pedal, although here in CO it should be fun in the snow with the AWD
Cheers!
This machine has perfectly adequate power for all situations. You may want more but you don't need more.
What machine ?
Who says you don't need more? Next year, add 10 more hp.
I LIKE LOUD SPEAKERS agreed
Agreed, the 2.5 has more than enough power to make CX-30 a blast to drive. But the newly announced turbo version has 36% more HP and a whopping 72% more torque. That’s back to the future time travel ready performance. Just add flux capacitor.
The first reviewer who likes the black cladding. I Iike it too! Love this car.
Ditto. It is an awesome looking. I drive by a Mazda dealership everyday on my way to work and stop in and gaze😁
... Wait till you get wax on them... No bueno.
Oddly enough, the white paint finish seems to make the cladding look better. I’m not generally a big fan of SUVs/CUVs but this one almost convinces me. A turbo 2.5 would definitely convince me.
@@Crosshead1 why do you need a turbo? This isn't a super heavy car that would need a turbo.
Why do you need coffee? There’s plenty of energy to be had throughout the day, what a waste !
6:06 Yasss ‼️ great words ‼️ please manual transmission ‼️
Once you drive a Mazda you're an enthusiast for life!
I have a 22 Carbon Edition, I love it.
We'll... maybe "soft-road" normally off-road. But hey, it's a better buy than its competition. And with a turbo model in 2022 approaching the subcompact Audi A3 crossover. But that CX-30 will need better handling to match the Audi.
But I'm still lovin' my 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve in Soul Crystal Red.
I like u! Your the best car review I’ve watched. Entertaining and smart!
Crosstrek STi. I thought I was the only one who wanted to see that. I've seen a few lifted Crosstreks and they look really nice.
I truly LOVE my limited special turbo edition cx-30!!!! Feeling enjoyment each new drive!!THANKS MAZDA!!
You're the only person I've seen really punch it in some corners. Love it! Great review as well!
Just bought a CX-30 this week. Was wanting a CX-3, but no manual transmission available so went for the more refined drive of the CX-30.
Based on your review, that little sucker sounds pretty impressive. AWD plus the turbo, that sounds awesome. 250 HP and over 300 ft/lb of torque. That would be a monster.
AND A REAL TRANSMISSION not the CVT
Subaru lost me there
Except CVTs on Subarus are actually good.
@@DJG333 I would say OK. The 4E-AT was bulletproof
@@DJG333 yeah...you hope...ill stick with the torque converted automatic for now
yeah subaru has never really done "well" with automatic transmissions. The 6 speed manual is pretty bulletproof though
@@DJG333 lol. Yeah sure they are
Great video Sarah, we need more manual cars. Its saddens me that majority of people don't want them. Was great to see you enjoying yourself on this one and also the time you spend on filming and editing doesn't go unnoticed.
Manuals are great but in a big city the constant stop n go traffic is really not manual friendly. I always had manuals until I bought my 2014 Mazda 3 with an automatic and love it in manual sport mode and using the paddle shifters
Just found your channel. You had me at "Group B era rally racing". I am looking at the CX30 for my next vehicle and in all the reviews I've seen, yours is the only one that has really tested this off road. Throw on some Motegi 141 16" rims and a 70 series tire and this thing would be great for cottage runs and fire road hooning. Bring on more "lifted" reviews.
LOL THAT BRAKING TEST WAS THE BEST ONE YET! Lol the way your face changed mid-braking. Hilarious
I went from a 2013 cosstrek to this aw cx30. I love it. much more fun to drive. I just wish it had a bigger gas tank
Gonzalo Luna I’ve had my GT 2 months and love it.. I agree on the gas tank.
4:52 - Those back of the seat pockets are handy for the windshield sun-shade, (besides other things). 😊
I like Mazda CX30 because it great looking crossover and it safe crossover, I can't wait until get one real soon.
Just purchased the Premium with white leather seats, gun metal gray exterior.......Nimble, smooth, responsive, much more quiet than the Cx-5 along with better transmission shifting than the Cx-5. A kick to drive. First mod will be removing 215-55-18 and adding 245-50-18 on black rims..............
I agree, I think it drives better than the CX 5 and the CX 50!
They did it Sarah! They put 2.5T in the CX-30 with up to 250 Hp and 310 lbs ft of torque for 2021!! That would make this a Rocket!
Sounds better than most pseudo-sports 4 cyl cars
Best. Car. Review. Ever. You need your own TV show - it would be much better than Gran Turismo.
Great informative review of the CX30...Nice car...
Luv your style/humour Sarah...😍
I love anything AWD and Rally inspired. Also Sarah's ❤️
Love mine, wish i got the turbo but i got the ‘23 carbon edition with 265x55x17s and crushes AZ trails
My wife has a CX-3 with a Skyactiv 2.0 litre engine and 2WD, and it lacks power. This shows a little more room and the 2.5 litre engine with the AWD looks aggressive. Even better, a 2.5 litre turbo would be great, but that car seems to handle those corners better than some of the other cars you have driven. Nice review, it looks like you had fun!
Well done, as reviews go. Your style of evaluation, reveals the best of what this vehicle can do. Good job.
To state the obvious, you are a hoot. It's great when you make fun of yourself, and I bet you piss off the "boys" when they face 😂 the fact that you know tons more than they do r/e working on cars, you drive much better than they do, etc. Not that we set the bar toooo high! I bet you would be lots of fun on a road trip! AND, despite your statements to the contrary, you are a beautiful young Lady 👩. So, there. Nuff said. All the best to you!
I wish I found your Channel sooner. Where were you all my life lol. Love your reviews! and your humor is Truly the best!
Just bought a 2021 turbo. It shits & gets. Like your back end too! Lol!
:Enter 2023 and you must have caught the ears of mazda.... they put that 250hp320trq skyactic turbo 2.5 in it !!!! YAY
I even take my 2007 Mazda 3 off-road driving and it's awesome😀 Mazdas are really a treat to drive!
I loved watching this video, and seeing how much fun you were having with the on-road and off-road capabilities of the CX-30. It's always great to see you get excited about a car. Which is why I won't be buying one of these since you already convinced me to buy a Veloster N!!
lol marcus it’s your $ a Veloster…really
I actually got a CX-30 turbo and considered your review since I like to goto the mountaisn but also love sportier vehicles. The vehicle is a perfect balance and I came from a 2020 Stinger GT AWD 3.3 TT that was great but being so low limited where I could go and sitting low to the ground worrying about damaging my rims or scraping the fron end was getting old.Such a relief to know the vehicle is capable f some offroading.
nice to see the white for a change. Also listening to you is fun. I love the facts and everything, but this vid was a refreshing change too....
I Considered it and the CX=5. But the Mazda resale values suck and I was looking into the proven
Highlander. After 6 months of research we found a 2016 Toyota Highlander XLE lease return. We do not pile on the miles so we bought a better car @ 48,000 miles. Certified used. At the Toyota dealer.
My wife saw a good picture and decided it looked good.
Amazing the Highlander weighs more than my 96 f-150 4x4 EC.
Aunt Sarah and Daddy Doug DeMuro drop their review of the same car on the same day? MIND BLOWN🤯
That looked like a lot of fun, and the turn signal "clack, clack" sounds like a 60s or 70s Citroen! I once took the flasher unit from a 1960s 2CV apart just to see what it was like and the relay arm had a little plastic hammer that struck against the inside of the plastic housing. That was all. Simple but effective, and gave a very characteristic sound.
I just stumbled on your reviews. Great job. I love the attention details and your funny and adorably cute. You clearly know your stuff
You are funny, and that adds value... Loved the review.
Great video as always - I usually don’t like hatchbacks but I like this car.
So far I AGREE with you on your choice of looks on these... an most other stuff too. I love your reviews too-- you I TRUST... you don't "baby" the cars-- like most do..and I LIKE the info- plus your quirky style makes it fun.. THANKS.
You crack me up! 😂❤️
I've never heard the term "lifted hatchback". Most reviews call it a crossover, one or two call it a hatchback and a few say SUV or small SUV.
No USB ports but there are two in the centre - sorry, center - console box. There is on the UK model I saw anyways.
I bought the premium Bose headphones a while ago, sounded just like you describe. I sold them on pretty quickly.
I really like that you didn't criticize the info screen for not being a touchscreen, like every other dork who doesn't understand that it was deliberately designed that way because it's safer.
Just gutted that we don't get the 2.5L in the UK, so no turbo (which I think you do get now), and I think we only get front wheel drive, and we also have to have white daytime lights so ours are built into the headlight area, not the indicators so no amber lights. But I love this car and I think I'm going to buy one. Great video, love it. Can't argue with 3 penguins!
Mazda's ergonomics have always been on point. I miss my 2018 Mazda 3 GT hatch :( but I might get the new CX-30 AWD with the turbo soon! That would be pretty awesome :D
Funny you mention the turbo cause 2021 there is a turbo that's available now. Mazda has been listening to Subaru's customer base. Starting to notice a pattern now.
Lifted hatch for sure. SUV’s are restyled family minivans, fun is not in their inventory.
Mazda makes some compelling cars. I don’t know why, but it reminds me of an AMC Eagle Hatchback, a car ahead of its time.
It does!! I had not thought of that until I read your comment.
I have an eagle its awesome!
Very cool!
You are the best reviewer out there. Other ones bore me too much and I find I'm fast forwarding to try and find info or things I want to know about
Love your review style Sarah. Yes I hit subscribe. We LOVE our 2021 CX-30 GT ( Canadian top trim equivalent to premium). We traded in our 2018 CX-5 GT. It felt too big for the old urban streets here in central Toronto. The CX-30 is so much more fun to drive. My wife loves it too. As a smart husband, especially since she is the main breadwinner .... I let her drive when we go out together. To scratch my itch, I take the car for drives, even when Ii don’t have to go anywhere. Took our 7 year old daughter Emily out to some twisty roads tonight for some pedal to the metal, sport mode fun. Every time I floored it Emily raised her hands and shouted “woo hoo!”. I think we’re raising a future “Sarah”. Yes, that transmission lever is perfectly placed for a manual... in Europe the car comes with a manual.... but only a less powerful 2.0 engine. Big news here in North America is Mazda has now announced the 250HP 320 Ft lb torque (on 93 octane) turbo version. Yeah it won’t have even square HP and torque numbers, but don’t think we’ll care when that 320 ft lb of torque is pushing us back in the seat. I’ll probably get one of the first CX-30 turbos to arrive at my dealership. It will be a hoot to hear what Emily says when i floor the turbo version.
When the Turbo comes out soon it would be much fun to drive in the dirt Rally Style. Your reaction while driving in the dirt made my day., Mazda fan here.👌
Your mr2 is fantastic toyotas are the best 👍
Mazda in my option is a very underrated manufacturer. They produce really nice cars. Great review Sarah AND TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF WOMAN..... Your fan's want ye healthy
I LOVE the cup holders under the hood.
I'm like you, it looks good in white. Mazda has a beautiful red metallic would look good w/ the black around the wheels too. Great video, as always Sarah. Love your videos. Your the best! I love your facial expressions when driving. It's nice to see you have fun & enjoy driving.
Those are close to the highest overall ratings you've given out. You were certainly impressed with this car.
Good to see you looking and sounding well & happy. Hope your health keeps on improving. Great review too. I like a bit of body roll when you’re pushing on, makes for a smoother more comfy ride too. It is a good looking car. You are a fine woman. All in all good to watch
why this car so beautifull!!
I"m thinking of getting a naturally aspirated engine 2.5 skyactive and adding a SUPERCHARGER... much BETTER than turbo- because NO excessive heat- no oil burning, and a gentle boost across the full spectrum... and i've seen several with these that are STILL getting great mileage with the supercharger-- becaues they don't have to floor it so much to get power..
I think this explains why the hood of the Mazda3 has grown to have so much space underneath it -- for AWD. To my eye this is the best looking Mazda3 variant since the original.
