Welcome back to the channel ladies and gentleman! Today we talk about everything you should know before buying an F8X generation BMW M4 or M3, used or new (F80, F82, F83). The F82 M4 is the first generation of the BMW M3 to be turbocharged from the factory, with that comes a few things you should learn about the platform before buying, especially if you are looking into modifying or tuning the car. Thhe F80 / F82 BMW M3 / M4 comes with a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder twin turbocharged engine that produces anywhere from 425HP for the base model and 500HP for the M4 GTS. Since I have owned this car for nearly 2 years, I take today as an opportunity to share the things I have learned about the F8X platform. Everything from what options, colors, transmissions and modifications that are available from factory and more. For the CRANK HUB club please read: I have a 16 vert with 80k miles and have always driven the car hard. I have never modified or tuned the car , never had an issue with the hub
I have seen and read over and over that the crank hub issue is ONLY for those with mods. Once you even add a simple tune to boost power, that is where the issue comes in. If you leave the car stock and do simple things such as just intake and exhaust, I have been told that it will not be an issue.
Bro, you’ve single handedly convinced me to get a M4 although I was originally planning on scooping up a M550. I know they’re completely different platforms but I already have a winter car so I’m not worried about it. I finish paying off my grandpa Acura within the next couple of months and I’m looking for an upgrade. Thanks for spreading your knowledge through these videos!

106k miles on my 15’ f82 m4 never had an issue. So much fun with this platform.
Running stage 2 BM3 / MST intakes & charge pipes / MPE full titanium exhaust & all the carbon extras.
Just got crank hub upgrade as was servicing the timing chain anyway so killed two birds with one stone.
Great platform & still have amazing road presence 7 years later
is it reliable? Would it be safe to get a 60k mile one from carman with their warranty?

@@stoopidvideo Maybe you can afford it, but sounds like your friends are poor bastards. I would expect to pay up to a couple thousand dollars a year to service a BMW. Maybe double that for an M car.

Hey awesome video! for the battery part : you can replace the negative cable in the back with a regular F30/32 series and use a regular AGM bat , just code it in . Cheers

I always had trouble with my BMtroubleyous after 6 years : a new sports exhaust for the M4 is not cheap and I also had to replace the inter cooler in its 6th year, yet the mileage was only 44.000 km...

im looking at scooping up an f82 or f80, what year do yu suggest. ive heard the negine is built to last a lifetime so i odnt mind scooping up something with higher miles

I had an M4CS, liked the car but lacked visceral experience, great daily driver. I didn’t have any reliability issues other than some rattles, lacked good sound even with an improved exhaust

People should also know that these cars are extremely badass and are NOT for everyone, the advertised horsepower of 431 is for the rear wheels and not the engine, most dyno at close to 500 engine horsepower!!!

Seems like the first year is the most basic compared to all the changes offered by the time the last year is made. So based on all the different updates the M4 has had over the years, which year and version do you think is the best one to get?

Great overview video few things tho
The adaptive headlights come with the following
Pre lci non adaptive xenon
Pre lci adaptive xenon
Pre lci adaptive led
Lci non adaptive bi-led
Lci adaptive icon led
Other failure points are
The PCV valve, goes out around 55k miles
Charge air cooler, internal baffles crack and leak coolant into the charge pipes
Coolant reservoir, cracks and splits due to heat
Charge pipes, fail due to heat (have not experienced this personally yet)
Spark plugs, coils and injectors all known to fail, especially with tuned cars made worse with ethanol
I’ve had a fair share of issues in my m4 being a early gen 2015 model, everything listed above and more (excluding the charge pipes) has happened to me, my car is around 60k miles, bone stock, only modifications being lci trim upgrades (basically oem+ cosmetics)
Those listed above are issues to lookout for, they don’t happen too often though, I think the previous owner just neglected the car more then you should, but for any car person who knows how to properly care for it, these issues should be more spaced out (they will happen, just depending on the level of care, will happen further down the line)
i'm looking at getting an f80 or f82 at the end of this year, but looking at the pricing it actually looks like m4s are a little cheaper than the m3 is, doesn't seem like a whole lot of difference between the two besides the doors right?

Would you buy a 2015 with 37k miles everything done for 46k private party? Competition package upgrade? Is that a decent deal for everything done through SSR? Same color too and it’s all done crank hub was just done it’s under mileage and I work from home don’t drive much? It’s a coupe and all upgraded carbon inside and out. Can’t believe I am actually shopping around for a low mileage m4 f82 and I’ve been dreaming of owning proper M Powered coupe for the last 15 years but never had the balls to go big. We piss farted around the inevitable and over the last 13 years, we drove a BMW 335i M E92 Sports Coupe (great fun for the price) a F20 125i M Sports, x5 F15 30d M Sports. IMO, Merc c43 AMG is just plain ugly on the inside. audi s5 is too sterile but tech and interior on the Audi is pretty special but performance was what I was after. Wish me luck on my hunt, no many m4s where I live.
I want an M3 BUT most likely keep it stock OEM to use as a daily and keep reliability at a high ! I love the RS but looks to similar to a VW lol.

If you’re still looking F82 M4 is pretty reasonable these days, not a lot to choose from but a 30k mile car can be had for $40k

Purchase from an individual you're familiar with. You don't want a modded or hard tracked "M" car. Resist the temptation.
