Mat’s in the new M4 ‘Lite’, the M440i, and he’s going up against both the new & old BMW M4! The question is, does the all-new wide-grilled M4 have what it takes to snatch the win over the competition?
Well when you look at the stats on paper you’d think it’ll be in for an easy win! With a 3-litre straight-six twin-turbo under the bonnet, it can put down a mighty 510hp & 650Nm of torque. As for the old M4, you’ll find the same size engine up front, although it can 'only' produce 450hp & 550Nm.
Then we have the M440i, which may also being powered by a 3-litre straight-six, although it only has a single turbo. As a result, it can produce 374hp & 500Nm of torque. Its weight is almost identical to that of the new M4, although the older model comes in about 150kg less than them both.
However, the M440i has one key advantage compared to the M4s - it’s AWD! Will it make the difference? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

I thought I was getting used to the new look of the M4, but seeing it next to the gorgeous last generation, yikes never mind
At 7:30 for example, everywhere I look, the angles, lines and proportions are just spot on with the previous gen.... where it’s the exact opposite for the new one... for every line and every angle it looks like they had their eyes closed while designing. Nothing seems to mesh.
@@MKu64 New from side looks like mustang wannabe, front grill looks like an ass. Only rear is pretty nice, overall it's total design failure. Every angle is out of propotions. But doesn't matter - fanboys will buy it anyway.

Was lucky to be able to grab the M4 Competition just before the 2020 WTLO requirements for CO2 fleets came in, TRL was doing deals just shy of 53k

As a daily driver I would pick the 440i, I mean with speed limits everywhere (unless you live in Germany), blowing the doors off many fast cars from traffic light to the next seems more realistic

Disagree u just need to lower the new m4 and add an adro,Vorstiener, or csl grille. And a carbon front splitter. For instance look up "adro g82 m4 competition blue" thats the best looking m4 ever made
I think that in addition to the added burbles on the old m4, they tweaked the transmission tune. Why would anyone simply tune in additional burbles and not use the tune features to improve transmission and power? I think the BM3 tune allows for all of these parameters to be tweaked.

@@twoms159 sadly in this economy. I was about to pull the trigger on a comp back in 2020. 36K miles, asking $39,000 for a 2016. Now they sell for roughly 50K + for that mileage 😭😭😭

@Do One this M4 was designed way back in 2014 , that's why I wanted to mention that it's been a long time since they updated it.....
Looking at this video, I think the previous gen will absolutely demolish the new one around a twisty track. It's almost as fast as the new one in a straight line and that weight difference will definitely help in the corners.

Yep I agree. I have a 440i F32 and its beautiful to look at on the outside but the interior is a bit of a let down. It's well screwed together but just not very inspiring. I get in my mate's RS3 and that's the polar opposite, boring on the outside and stunning on the inside. I keep toying with the idea of trading mine in for an M4 before the demise of petrol cars but every time I almost pull the trigger I look at the interior again and I lose a little bit of interest.

actually there is nothing you can do wrong when launching. the only thing you can do is decreasing or increasing a little bit the rpms
No way it’s stock guys, trust me I’ve got a F80 with a simple BM3 tune which ads at least 50 HP for stage 1 only. Sure maybe no bolt ons but running 12 flat on a damp surface and beating the G80 in a roll race??? Nope...

I’ll agree that the old M4 has the best body lines, of the group, but in all fairness it is lowered and sounds like it’s got spacers etc, all which helps with the aggressive stance. I like the new modern grill design, but the side view belongs to the old M4 for sure!
6:00 the bump in the bonnet just looks so nice and aggressive. I can't understand how BMW could remove this distinguishing feature on the new one.

The reality is the new M4 is a vast improvement and in 4x4 it will dynamically perfect for everyday use, I speak as a current M4 comp and previous non comp owner, my M4s have both tried to kill me on undulating B road non comp, and in the wet acceleration is on the limit, my wife has just replaced her Audi A4 with new 330e due to company car benefits, and the interior is so much nicer than my M4, and new M3 is better looking than M4, all the fuss over grill is nonsense compared to Audi grill

@@alanwayte432 Dont disagree with you mate but its what I like about mine. I have a feeling the new M4 is a bit too 'safe' and a bit too sanitised and clinical. No doubt it is dynamically superior (you'd like to f***ing hope it is!) but its getting more towards being a two door M5. Its a heavy beast and closer in weight to an F10 M5 than the F82. Plus its uglier than Vanessa Feltz licking piss off a thistle....

The old m4 definitely had a tune, it’s called bootmod3 I own one, the only way to make the burbles. So the stock g80 m4 beat the old tuned m4

That Java green is absolutely beautiful
I really like the new grill. But it’s interesting that the look changes with a change in color. The darker the color the better the grill looks. By the time you get to navy and black, the front begins to take on a almost Alfa Romeo look and adds some spicy sexiness that is out of the box for BMW. I think it’s jazzy as hell!!
Also there’s a tremendous difference between the regular 4 and either the M4 or the Competition. Once you turn the inserts horizontal the perspective changes immediately. .
