This is another New York classic, often sold wrapped in pieces at delis. Ingredient amounts (also in grams) are right in the description and the print recipe is linked there as well. Hope you enjoy it!

I have been chasing the perfect homemade fudgy browny for 25 YEARS. You're both 100% right: It just doesn't compare to a high quality boxed mix. I've made GOOD brownies by hand, but not as good as the boxed. There's some alchemy going on there between fats and flour proteins that resists replication in the home kitchen. Same deal with cake.

Hi Jim, it's Mike Florence and I trust you and your good lady are well. OK, this is a delicious looking recipe but bakery has never been my thaaaang. However, thanks to your thorough Mise en Place, excellent photography and a great demo, well I'll do it !!! By the way, I served up your Colorado Chili to some discerning friends who go for hot Madras and Vindaloo Curries. It was a knockout and you've got three more subscribers. Many thanks Jim and cheers for now, Mike.

My Dad, Mom, me and my four siblings would stop at the Syosset Bakery almost every Sunday after mass at St Edwards and we'd get crumb buns, kaiser rolls and jelly donuts. Such a magical memory. the taste of the crumb buns was beyond and I will never forget it. PS I ended up working at the Syosset bakery as a teen! Cannot wait to try this recipe.!!!

I live near a famous bakery in NJ that makes crumb cake with the biggest ratio of crumbs to cake. It's the way!! We are spoiled over here in the tristate. Thankful for it. Also gotta lose weight from it but sometimes it's worth it. lol. This looks amazing -- and love, love the Taste Tester always. He is adorable and I trust anything he says.

Growing up in Connecticut it was always such a treat after church at St. Vincent DePaul's to stop at Wolf's Bakery in East Haven and get some baked goods. Crumb Cake was always one of them. I was fascinated when someone would purchase a loaf of fresh bread and they would slice it in the bread slicing machine. Ah, the simple treats of live. Thanks for all of your great videos. They bring back lot's of good memories from New England. (Don't get me started on the Italian Bakeries.)

Now, those are delicious - my mom and I are notorious for eating one crumb cake donut with tea, and then saying "that tasted like more" and helping ourselves to *at least* another half donut.
But a crumb cake like this, it's amazing. The texture in the crumble is fantastic.

Some of my fondest childhood memories are those times spent with my Grandmother, Aunt and family in Peekskill. Aunt K would go into town early in the morning and come home with little bits of heaven from the bakeries in white paper bags. My favorite was the crumb cake, followed by the sugar crusted jelly donuts. I am going to try your recipe, as I have searched for over 45 years trying to find "that one perfect" recipe that could trigger those memories once more. Thank you for sharing your videos and your time.

I appreciate the imperial and metric measurements, but this is a great example of why I really don't bake. I tend to use recipes as a guide which works when I am making lasagna or chili. However, baking requires more precision to get the expected outcome.
Fortunately I have an excellent old school Italian bakery around the corner from me on the Jersey shore.

To duplicate cake flour for every cup of all purpose flour remove 2 tablespoons and replace it with 2 tablespoons cornstarch, whisk together well before adding. I make my crumb the same way, it’s the best. I wouldn’t do the flip, just make the parchment hang over the edges and lift it out.

There is a very similar recipe from polish cuisine - yeast cake (drożdżówka/drożdżak/ciasto drożdżowe) and I guess you know the origin of the name. Anyways, what I want to point out that in order to have more crunchy crumb, you can replace the flour with Semolina or (if you have access to Polish products) Krupczatka flour. The end result is really subtle but worth giving a try!

Love your channel! I hope I can help with the metric conversion. Liquids, such as buttermilk, is measured in litres or millilitres ( L/ML ) and dry, such as flour, is in weight (grams) which you have a handle on already. Measuring spoons - a teaspoon is 5 ml; a tablespoon is 15 ml. One pound of butter is 454 grams.

A tip for the baking paper: if it's too big for your tray, get scissors and cut at each corner diagonally towards the center 1-2 inches. Then just drop the paper onto your tray and the corners get "wrapped" without having to fold the paper. Try it and you'll see what I mean- it's hard to explain.
Also thanks for the gram weight measurements. ❤❤❤❤❤ 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
