I just made this. I laughed when you said it was clouds that became a cake, but once my knife cut through the top crust it felt like I was cutting through a cloud. As good as advertised!
LOVELY RECIPE!! The cake is so moist and light, while the crumble (with chopped toasted walnuts) is so crunchy I had difficulty cutting the cake! The crumbs were falling apart. I would probably do this as a streusel muffin instead! I used 0.75x of all the sugar stated in the recipe and it was sweet enough. I followed the written recipe using 150g flour for the crumb - it resulted in wetter blobs. Maybe I'll add more flour the next time. There were too many crumbs on the came so I'll probably reduce the crumb recipe (0.75x). Used 100g yoghurt in place of sour cream. Baked 45mins 160deg celsius in 7x7inch pan.

I baked this today and it came out well,I used a 8 inch spring form to get a round and taller cake so baking time i accordingly increased. I also made my usual slight high altitude adjustments necc at 5000 in SW Montana

Omg I made this yesterday right after you posted lol it was amazing! It’s gone 😭. I went to your written recipe to prep the ingredients and then back to your video to follow along and noticed the flour ingredients for the crumbs is wrong it says 1 1/4 cups instead of 1 1/2 cups. Luckily I followed with the video lol. I will definitely be making this again it was the best crumb cake I ever had. My husband loved it and he only ever likes the frosting on cakes so I was very surprised when this cake doesn’t even have frosting lol. He basically ate the whole cake. So sad it’s gone 😔

Reminds me of a boxed Aunt Jemima cake mix I used to make when I was younger. It actually came with a disposable pan and you would mix the batter in the plastic bag that the cake mix came in. I will be making this homemade version soon!

My husband and I made 'coffee cake' often. We added cinnamon to the cake batter after we put it in the pan and I would 'swirl' it about. It looked nice plus who could say no too more cinnamon? Not me!

I love crumb cake or streusel cake! It's feels so comforting minus all the dainty frosting! For the crumbs though, what difference does it make if I use cold butter instead of melted butter? Would it distribute the butter more evenly if I use melted butter?
I melted the butter but did not wait for it to cool down before adding it to the crumble, so I turned it a wet dark brown mixture. I let the crumble cool in the fridge before adding it to the cake, this fixed the texture however it’s still dark brown, lesson learned.
My Mom's crumb cake recipe didn't use butter or sour cream (I might try adding that next time though). The crumb mixture was shortening, sugar, and flour. Some was reserved for the topping and the rest was mixed with milk and a few other things to make the batter. She sometimes added fruit cocktail to it.

I tried this recipe and it was pretty good. However, I'd recommend mixing the milk; sour cream; and vanilla in a separate container as opposed to adding them separately. It should resemble buttermilk and will help avoid making the batter look curdled. I also added the wet and dry ingredients in thirds, slowing incorporating them without overmixing and resulting in a dense cake.
Absolutely the fluffiest and moistest crumb cake I’ve ever had! Thank you! You may want to adjust the recipe online for the crumb topping. The ingredient list calls for 1 1/4 cups of flour divided for the topping, but in the instructions, the amount stated adds to 1 1/2 cups.

Personally, I think cold butter would be harder to mix into the ingredients. If you can I'd use melted

You may want to adjust the recipe online for the crumb topping. The ingredient list calls for 1 1/4 cups of flour divided for the topping, but in the instructions, the amount stated adds to 1 1/2 cups.
Which one is correct?

Happy New Year John and family. I made this recipe and oh my goodness, it's amazingly delicious, especially if you warm it up in the microwave for 30 seconds. Have to eat it with a spoon...I want all that sweet, delicious crumbly flavor. You're the best.
