You Sir, are a Giga Chad. A national hero. A veritable Galactic Paladin. An unmatched mechanical engineer worthy of unlimited praise! I've had my 2005 LJ in 3 different shops to fix/adjust my parking brake. All 3 returned it to me saying they fixed it, but did not. I finally figured if you want something done right, do it yourself. Using your video, I successfully replaced my brake pads, brake shoes and rotor, and adjusted the parking brake. Thankyou for your effort in making such a detailed video.

Old one but a good one. I've spent far to much time searching for disc brake info on the TJ. Thanks for putting this together.

Hey buddy, the part you are moving at 8:52 is actually two parts that should pivot on each other and like mine were, yours are seized. The nobble at the front there is the back stop point for the top arm lever that is actuated by the cable at the rear. The two pieces of the actuator sit on top of each other with a pivot pin that is part of the bottom section locating into the top. It's a terrible design ready to rust solid. Hope this info helps anyone else watching :) 👍

I thought mine were 1 part. I had to hammer on them to get them to come apart. This is why my parking break was dragging in the first place

Awesome video, great detail. Helped me learn the process and get the parking brake lever back together once it fell apart. New shoes on, cable adjusted, brake works as good as new. Thanks again!

I am about as accomplished as a home mechanic can be, but it is always helpful to see a process done by others. Thank you for taking the time to film and for the inclusion of so much detail. I intend to incorporate many of your suggestions. Good call on the rust converter. Mine is already jacked and disassembled in the shop, so I’ll have to just wire brush it.

Waow ! What a good tutorial. I was anxious to put it back all together but, thank to your video it was a piece of cake. Just a challenge I had, my rear driveshafts are chromoly G2 and the hub is bigger than on the stock ones. That leaves approx 1/4 inch of clearance to put the springs in place. A bent nail as a tool, a lot of patience and swearing but it works ! Thanks man !

Great video. Thank you for sharing! I tried the method in a shop manual I have to reassemble the shoes and springs before putting them on, and then I tried the approach you followed. I found your approach to be the easier of the two. One more tip I picked up from South Main Auto channel (which is excellent) is to spray some fluid film on the backing plate once the shoes and springs are in place to help prevent rust. Make sure you cover the shoes and hub area first with paper towels, though. Cheers!

The TJ is a lot easier than the JK, hang on to your hat when you tackle that one. FYI the antisieze would have been the better choice on those adjusters. Great presentation as usual Chief.

Thank you for this helpful video. I have a question please. After replacing the handbrake shoes (left side) and doing this process, I drove my car with no problems for a long day. The second day, after releasing the handbrake , my jeep started shaking and vibrating for around 150 meters and then worked normally. It seems like the handbrake was still on. This problem appeared twice. What can I do to avoid this ?? Thank you so much.

I had the same issue last year with the e-brake pad falling off and making an odd noise. Also the ebrake stopped working properly. I actually didn't know that my Rubi with the rear discs had inside shoes for ebrake. So tore into it, unfortunately/fortunately the previous owner went to chromoly axle shafts which is nice but the outer diameter where the lugs go is larger blocking all of the easy access to the parking brake parts, made it a bit of a nightmare trying to get it apart and back together. Did both sides, however i've never been able to get the parking brake to work properly since. I adjust the star until it just causes the e-brakes to drag, but pulling the parking handle it doesn't hold my Jeep in place. If I go a couple more clicks tighter with the start it will hold the Jeep but is rubbing the whole time driving and will actually stop the Jeep if I let it coast on a flat road. It also gets really hot and smells bad, makes sense since it is basically on all the time, so I can't run it that way and just deal with weak ebrake.
I haven't done this part yet since watching your video, but I'm thinking the mechanism that you talk about at the 9 minute mark may actually be my problem. I live in the Pacific Northwest so I don't have to deal with any rust which is nice, but something may have jammed up the mechanism. I've adjusted and readjusted and moved the cable adjustment in and out and just can't get the e-brakes to work properly, I'm hoping that part is just jammed or blocked by something. Thanks for the video, it is so informative.

A good video, just a little remark important dog, under the bolts that mount the Calibers is pieces off pipe, they must be moving free and well oiled with silicongress. The brakes will not work if they are stuck, they will overheat fade, and the pads ware down fast.

You cut out the part where you had trouble and went to string. Makes you look good getting it the first time - but you left out the trouble - and why you went to string. Thumbs down
