    Just how I will do it -- cut myself, drop stuff, put it in backwards. But it gets done! Thanks.

    I did my '04 but I bought all new hardware. Much better that way. Also lub the points where the shoes rub on the backer plate.

      I’m doing mine today. It’s a commander so this 30 minute job will turn into 4 hours. 😂

      My emergency brakes don’t work at all. I can have it pulled all the way up and drive down the road with no resistance. Should be interesting to see what’s going on in there.

    Ha, glad you included your screw up moments, if they're going to happen, they're going to happen to me. It is nice to know in advance.

    What’s holding the backing plate on ? Why no grease on the contact pads the shoe rides on? Why put old rusty hardware back in?

    For my 2008 Libby I bought "loaded" backing plates from MOPAR - on sale. I removed the (rear) axle shafts/hubs in order to install the loaded backing plates. Removing and replacing the axles was easy. BTW - if your after-market parking brake shoes do not match the end details of the OEM shoes, you will never be able to get proper parking brake action.

    Good lighting on close ups. That backing plate was nasty. Did this work out OK over time?

    If you put your finger on the back of the slipper spring to hold the pin forward it comes out much easier. Ditto the comments about cleaning it up in there, and those handbrake actuator levers are essential to lube.

    Interesting floating backing plate…How did you fix it again later?

  • @DomVito87
    @DomVito87 Рік тому

    I had to change out my axle seals... So I just went ahead an did parking brake shoes. Much easier without the axle there

    Dust or backing plate is shot. The heads of the bolts on mine were all snapped off, and the plate was rubbing on the rotor making a grinding noise. Had to cut the plate off, which is unfortunate, because some of the e-brake shoe parts connect to it. Would have to drill and tap to get the new plates on.. So whether or not you want a working ebrake comes into question.

      Datzfunk you can fix them on both sides, put a longer screw for velocity sensor and drill the plate on that side, on the other side you can easily drill a 3.2 hole and screw it with a 3.5 screw.

      I could not find backing plates for a decent price for our 2006 Liberty.

    Sorry mate but your backplate is completely shot it shouldn't be moving at all so your shoes are going to squeal and rub.the back plates are held on by rivets. Need to re do this repair when you know what your doing.

    That happened to me too! The shoe material just fell off. The whole reason I'm changing them

    the backing plate is meant to be bolted down, not floating. Yours is so rusted that the mounting points don't exist.

    Dude you need backing plate

  • @MacRaeAuto

    how are you not changing those backing plates? its not a "full floating" system !

    • @thurgogopro5338
      @thurgogopro5338 6 років тому

      Ian Nicoll maybe full floating works better than the original poor design who knows LOL

    How not to do the job!
    Never cleaned the dust off. Never put copper slip in shoes. Didn't know how to simply remove shoe holder clips. Never roughed shoes up to help bed in. Never cleaned inside drum. Didn't check pads. Adjusted shoes whilst drum loose!! Tightened wheel with gun, not torque wrench. Wouldn't work for me or on my vehicles.

    Ever think of cleaning things up with a wire brush while you're in there and greasing the contact surfaces of the backing plate? Might be a great idea! Oh wait... you can't do that because your backing plat's shot and will fall apart.
