Fun fact: In the comics, Swamp Thing's wife, Abby, *was* put on trial for crimes against nature . . . in Gotham City. Swamp Thing responded by covering the city in plant life. Batman spent quite a bit of time wondering what Poison Ivy had done this time before running into Swamp Thing and learning the truth. Abby wasn't in jail much longer after that.
And then Swamp Thing died...or at least found his life essence shot out into space, unable to reform on Earth. Unfortunately, Jim Wynorski didn't bother to adapt anything from Moore's run other than the love scene with Abby, so we never got to see Swamp Thing form into a giant monster made up of horrified sentient plant people.
My favorite was The War in Hell with the Black thing that ask the question of what was Evil. Some how I done think that any Movie would ever do that story with the ending. (the End of God?)
yeah the American Gothic arc with the first appearance of John Constantine. He gets Swamp Thing to go around and encounter various horrors like underwater vampires who live beneath the swamp and turn children into more of their ilk, a female werewolf curse that happens due to both the property she and her husband live on and when she gets her period, a movie set near his swamp that uses a haunted plantation and the actors become the slaves, master and mistress also ZOMBIES!
Fun fact: the Swamp Thing comic introduced John Constantine. For those of you who don't know, Constantine is an English occult detective and sorcerer who acted as a supernatural advisor to Swamp Thing. He eventually got his own comic series called Hellblazer. It ran for 300 issues from 1988 to 2013.
Dick Durock actually played the Hulk in the 70's Incredible Hulk TV series in only one episode while Lou Ferrigno was playing a human character in the episode. (I can't remember the episode name unfortunately)
Close. Not the *actual* Hulk, but he played a sort of proto-Hulk that was the alter ego of a character called Dell Frye, who'd been exposed to gamma radiation in the '50s. The episode was called The First.
Truly amazing how much plastic surgery women put themselves thru to try to look that good. & Adrienne Barbeau was ALL natural. Same can b said about Marilyn Monroe. She was beautiful. Nowadays she'd b called "fat", "bbw", & "full figured". & except for her hair she was all natural, too.
You know, I never understood that until just watching this. My dad REALLY liked her and I could never figure out why; even growing up pretending that girls sucked, I didn't think she was attractive. My dad apparently called her "Adrienne Boobdeau" away from us kids. Now I can see it.
13:23 fun fact: the uncut "extra nudity" version is only available in Europe, as Adrienne Barbeau refused to have it released in the US. Lol at the "Darkman" reference. Not only did the bad guys set Holland on fire like Westlake in Darkman, but that bald guy is a henchman in both movies.
Swamp Thing was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I didn't realize it before but I think watching this movie 50+ times might have lead to my love of huge, huge hair.
Louis Jourdan, an actor who appeared in classic Hollywood and European movies, played D'Artagnan, Dracula, Count of Monte Cristo and a Bond villain, still manages to be classy despite the quality of the movie.
Funny that you keep making all the Hulk references here. Dunno if you missed it in your research, or if you're saving it for the next SwampThing movie review, but Dick Durock actually has a connection to the Hulk. I recall the old 70's Incredible Hulk TV show had an episode titled: "The First". (I think that it might have been 2 parter episode) Wherein, it was about how Bruce Banner (Bill Bixby) discovers that someone else besides him, had become a "Hulk" years earlier before he himself did, but had also been cured of it. That other "Hulk" in this episode.........was also played by Dick Durock too.
My parents were a big fan of The Hulk tv series and I do remember an episode where the normal Hulk is battling another Hulk that is an older man. So it was "Young Hulk" versus "OId man Hulk."
When I first saw this movie many years ago I enjoyed it. And now that I know more about Swamp Thing I can still go back to this movie and Sequel and enjoy it just as much as I used to.
It's interesting he can regrow his arm from the little beam of light in the dungeon pretty quickly, while standing outside for hours did jack all for him.
The swamp scenes were filmed at Cypress Gardens in Berkeley County, SC. Parts of The Patriot, The Notebook, An Occasional Hell, Peter Fonda's and Katherine Heigl's The Tempest and others were filmed there. A friend provided reptiles for The Tempest and kept alligators away from the actors.
My favorite slice of dialog from this film: Adrienne Barbeau and the kid are walking through the woods and pass the crashed jeep. Kid: "What happened to the car?" AB: "Oh....I ran into a tree." Kid: "Must've been one of those hit-and-run kind of trees."
The Dr. Arcane transformation scene terrified me as a kid- even though I laugh hysterically at it nowadays. Apparently, the Arcane-Monster was supposed to be a baboon-reptile monster but the lack of budget forced the special effects guy to improvise a "pig crossed with the creature from the black lagoon." I do love Blockbuster Buster's name for it, @Brandon Tenold, "Piggy-Bacca."
Same here, I saw the movie for the first time as a young kid. The villain transformation did scare me enough to scream or anything or have nightmares, but I certainly didn't like it.
Agreed! Did you know that Prophecy is one of Stephen King's favorite bad movies? Although... your comment now makes me want a horror movie about a giant mutated bear played by Christopher Walken.
Andrew Parsons i remember watching it when I was about 6-7 years old. Absolutely terrified me as a kid. I watch it now and laugh lol especially when the kid in the sleeping bag gets killed.
Haha, now you're getting into films I actually saw as a kid! I remember seeing this movie on HBO after it came out in rather '82 or '83. The scene where he gets set on fire and has to jump into the swamp and then transformed into the Swamp Thing shortly after was burned into my young impressionable mind.
Fun fact: they made a crappy Swamp Thing cartoon that had a horrendous version of “Wild Thing” as it’s theme song. That’s right, they rewrote a song about a sexy girl to be about a huge green monster in a swamp... hold on, is Swamp Thing the inspiration for Shrek?!
The action figures that came out for that toon were pretty cool IMO. But gawd yeah that theme song was the definition of cringe, listening to it again today! The live action TV show is pretty goofy too.
I actually remember watching that along with Toxic Crusader and few others that had animated series. That was a weird time, even weird anime is more normal compared to them.
I disagree.... Nothing "out Weirds" Japan when it comes to animation. *ahem* please take of the following series: Bobobo bo bo bobo , Hare+Guu. , Nichijou. , Uzumaki , JoJo's Bizarre adventure , FLCL , . Cromartie highSchool , Shimoneta , Gyo: Tokyo Fish attack , and for the mind scarring one.. . Aiken , Midori: Shoujo Tsubaki , elfin laid , apocalypse Zero and of course violence Jack..... nothing gets weirder more disturbing or more insane then anime ....
Adrienne Barbeau's breasts! And Swamp Thing was in the film too. Arcane's masks would have certainly helped Darkman! The same 'new age BS' was used in Captain America as well, the serum amplified Steve's positive attributes and made the Red Skull evil. I actually just watched this last night on the DVD with the international cut, I thought it was fun although I agree it didn't play top Wes Craven's strengths and had trouble finding the right tone. AUSSIE TRANSFORMERS yes I like the opening of that second movie too which shows the history of small things through images of DC Comics and the song Born on the Bayou
Considering how Dr. Holland was trying to combine animals with plants, he's lucky he didn't get turned into Plantimal, another (albeit obscure) comic book monster.

Alea Anderson yeah it introduced the world to Kari Wuhrer so that's a huge plus. She was one of the hottest babes around in the mid 90s to early 2000s.
I always loved this movie as a kid. It was silly and cheesy but the I was a sucker for the "love" story and the fact that she liked him even as a mutant swamp monster. I had no idea there was a sequel... I only had an old vhs... now I need to hunt down both a tv show and another cheesy swamp thing movie!
One of the biggest ironies is that the costume for the USA Network TV series was far, far superior to the outfit seen in this movie. Much more massive and intricately more detailed with all sorts of vines threading across its surface, quite comparable to the comics concept. Sincerely, Bill
Fun Fact: The original full sized maquette had some extra... roots, removed after the producer decided there would be "no son of Swamp Thing." Also, the body mold used was from a stunt man cast prior to Dick Durock. I don't recall his name, but he was shorter than Dick and more muscular, which is why the suit doesn't seem to fit Dick all that well in the movie.
Speaking of made for TV movies: Craven once directed a made for TV movie called "Invitation to hell". Check that one out of if you haven't seen it yet. It's a bit like a long episode of the Twilight Zone.
Fun fact: In the comics, Swamp Thing's wife, Abby, *was* put on trial for crimes against nature . . . in Gotham City. Swamp Thing responded by covering the city in plant life. Jude was one of the best child characters in any movie. That kid wasn't shaken by anything.
To quote James Rolfe, "this film is the missing link between Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Toxic Avenger."

For those of you who don't know, Constantine is an English occult detective and sorcerer who acted as a supernatural advisor to Swamp Thing. He eventually got his own comic series called Hellblazer. Yeah there is a Sci-Fi channel version and an R-rated DVD version... Both sucked.
To Brandon: Have you done a review on the film, Gymkata? Yeah, martial arts with a pommel horse....
Man, I got a little nostalgic listening to the song you put in from the original Hulk show when Swamp thing was walking away
Lucio Fulci, hah, you should eventually do Conquest at some point.
I was a huge fan of the remake that had the tv series on USA Network.
Don't forget RETURN OF THE SWAMP THING featuring 80s babe Heather Locklear.
Love the Swamp Thing TV series!
Alea Anderson yeah it introduced the world to Kari Wuhrer so that's a huge plus. She was one of the hottest babes around in the mid 90s to early 2000s.
I've recently stumbled upon your channel, and I'm glad I have. Keep up the good work, sir!
You are great at making these! Keep it up!
He mentions Boggy Creek at the beginning....wonder when he'll get to that one?
1:53 giant sized man thing joke, yes, liked and subscribed (though i already sub but whatever) thank you so much dude
Andrew Viewtieful Tachibana "Ladies..."
no its lllllladies
I remember watching the cartoon of Swamp Thing when I was a kid.
Are we just going to ignore the roof of the Jeep flying away in fear?
OH! OH! PLEASE DO THE 90'S CAPTAIN AMERCIA MOVIE!!!!!
Yes this would e a good one too.
Nice! Huge Swampy fan, loving the new series. This is mos def my new favorite channel🤘
Also, Matt Cable and Ferret are from the comics.
To bad it getting cancelled thanks WB and DC
I always loved this movie as a kid. It was silly and cheesy but the I was a sucker for the "love" story and the fact that she liked him even as a mutant swamp monster. I had no idea there was a sequel... I only had an old vhs... now I need to hunt down both a tv show and another cheesy swamp thing movie!
I saw it in the Theater. It was the 80's. This was as good as we got for Superheroes.
Predator vs. Swamp Thing........and Go!!!
9:43 we just gonna ignore the levitating car roof?
Wasn't Swamp Thing in Darkest Night?
Where are the Lantern Corps fighting the Black Lanterns?
One of the biggest ironies is that the costume for the USA Network TV series was far, far superior to the outfit seen in this movie. Much more massive and intricately more detailed with all sorts of vines threading across its surface, quite comparable to the comics concept. Sincerely, Bill
Whelp, I have been watching through all your videos and so far this marks the halfway point. Keep up the good work, Brandon!
Swamp Thing was an awesome 80's movie for kids.
Swamp Thing is an awesome film and he's one of the coolest characters in comics
Speaking of made for TV movies: Craven once directed a made for TV movie called "Invitation to hell". Check that one out of if you haven't seen it yet. It's a bit like a long episode of the Twilight Zone.
"I don’t give a wooden nickel about your genius! You call them off! Arcane? You call them off!" -President Swamp Thing
Brandon you need to review "Zardoz!".
