    As a Christian myself, I wish I could be half as eloquent and interesting as Wendigoon talking about the Bible. I could listen to him all day, in part because he's a teacher, not a preacher, and his enthusiasm for the Bible isn't unlike someone's love for the lore of their favorite book, movie, show, or video game.

      @@Popeyedfreeze Yes, I believe the Bible is the holy and inerrant word of God. I regularly read the Bible, and I read and listen to a variety of preachers, scholars, and even occasional skeptics (hard to avoid them entirely). Most importantly I believe Jesus is the Christ, and that He died for our sins so that we could live with Him for eternity.

      ‭I Corinthians‬ ‭1:18‭-‬25‬ ‭NKJV‬
      [18] For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. [19] For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” [20] Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? [21] For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. [22] For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; [23] but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, [24] but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. [25] Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
      You might want to look into it... Bible is funny in a way that someone with IQ 92 can absolutely demolish a IQ 140 in Biblical knowledge and understanding since both start from Zero ( unbelief ) and level 1 is when you believe... then you gain more understanding and knowledge through Holy spirit.
      ‭Philippians‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭KJV‬
      [9] And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

      @nathanaelellender6495 To be fair, the Bible does a pretty good job of being boring on its own. Epic story ideas, sure, and deeply philosophical and in-tune with the Human condition, absolutely. But it still manages to bog all of that down with the "begats" (we literally don't need a rundown of someone's lineage), and weird parts where something insane will happen and then never be addressed again (Elisha gets his feelings hurt, so summons LITERAL BEARS TO ANNIHILATE A BUNCH OF KIDS and then he just strolls on to where he was going like nothing happened). I'm sure a lot of it has to do with how many times it's been revised and rewritten by a multitude of powers over the centuries, but as pretty much all of the versions stand today, it's a boring read.

      @piterpraker3399 9 місяців тому

      @@A_Jet_Mech The Bible is a collection of books which - alongside every single historical work - have needed to be transcribed.
      This is the age before the printer and animal skins (called vellum), papyrus, and later actual paper were used.
      This has led to the collection of biblical manuscripts spanning multiple centuries and languages across the ancient world...and we've also found that they've been miraculously consistent.
      The multiple copies make for easy (though tedious) cross-referencing too, as opposed to going through secondary or tertiary sources - which helps establish which editions are "variants" to sequester them aside.
      This has also made forgeries impossible, since there has never been one single document that could be vulnerable to editing.
      In order to successfully sneak in an edit, you'd have to have access to archeological findings across the ancient world, and work with the materials from that time period...in not just the same language, but the same slang and dialect (as the languages themselves also changed over time), and in some cases with access to similarly preserved remains of scraps of the very same animal's hide - as vellum manuscripts are also organized by the dna of the source animal!
      As for your New and Old Testament gripe...again, it's true that you're not a biblical scholar.
      I'd go a step further and say you don't even have a basic understanding of the Bible. The allusions are astounding in the Old Testament to the conditions of the New, and the New faithfully build with the Old. They aren't just nice stories that someone thought would look cute sharing the same binding.

    If I were there, I would have maybe mentioned the fact that Angel isn't a specific thing. Angel means messenger, and the context tells us about that being whether they are supernatural or human. This also opens the conversation about Theophanies. Jesus participating with humanity prior to the incarnation. To answer the question about Lucifer, actually that's not a name, nor is satan. This is a huge misunderstanding of language, roles, description, and translation. The opposer of the faith wasn't given a name, he's just an opposer so he's described instead of introduced with a name. Fun chat guys, loved it. -Pastor A.

      They said this not because the angels looked scary, but because it was believed that no one could look upon the face of God and live. The people who saw these angels thought that they were going to die.

    If anyone wants to learn more on this topic, a great place to go is the material from Dr Michael Heiser. He's recently passed on last year but he has a podcast with a long back catalogue. It's called Naked Bible Podcast.
    He's also done many lectures in and around this topic. The best place to start is his introductory lecture(s) on the unseen realm:

    As a Christian who's been studying theology for many years now, this is overall a pretty good breakdown of this stuff, really didnt expect this going into it. Quick correction though, while the idea that Christmas, Easter, etc. traditions are originally pagan is pretty popular, especially around those holidays, it has no real basis in reality. There is no evidence that December 25th, Christmas trees, the Easter bunny, etc. come from paganism, in fact its quite the opposite. Almost all of those ideas came around long after Christianity was widespread and many of them were started by Christians in the first place.

    • @captainoofmerica2478
      @captainoofmerica2478 Рік тому +4

      I think people get the ideas of pagan influences and something straight up being pagan confused. For example the Christmas tree is similar to pagan traditions that use evergreen trees as decoration around that time of year, and it’s probable that the same kind of mindset which was inherited from old pagan traditions influenced the origins of Christmas trees. But that doesn’t change the fact that Christmas trees are a post Christianization tradition that was started by Christians for Christians purposes. I think that’s where people get confused.

      Just as the angels presented themselves in different ways for specific receptions, and the Gospels were written to be understood by specific peoples (IE: Luke, written for gentiles)
      The Church too has expanded, preserved, and sanctified cultural elements in it's baptism of all nations.
      Also,
      Great book: "Bearing False Witness"

      @@captainoofmerica2478 Do you have a source on that? The only primary sources I’ve found on Yule describe it as an animal sacrifice people swore oaths to, no mention of evergreens. (Venerable Bede and account of Haakon the good, 9-10th century)

    • @captainoofmerica2478
      @captainoofmerica2478 11 місяців тому

      @@mere7583 I never said that Yule used an evergreen, just that Evergreens have been used for winter traditions by pagan groups. If you want a good video on the subject watch Religion For Breakfast “The Very Recent Origine of the Christmas Tree.” He gives all of the proper citations and sources throughout the video. Also Google’s AI called Bard was useful to me in the research process, it can just outright answer your questions as long as you make sure the he specific, but more importantly if you ask it will give you sources and you can get it to give you primary sources and academic articles
