  • In this brief yet crucial episode of Boat Maintenance Matters, our expert marine mechanic, Frank Cutri, sheds light on a small yet mighty component of your Yamaha outboard - the anodes.
This video is applicable to the following engines:
    F200 / F225 / F250 3.3L V6
    F225 / F250 / F300 4.2L V6
⚙️ Anodes are unsung heroes in the world of marine maintenance, working tirelessly to protect your outboard motor from the corrosive forces of the water. Join Frank as he dives into this critical maintenance step, showing where to locate and how to remove the anodes on your Yamaha outboard.
🔩 Anodes, typically made of zinc or aluminum, sacrificially corrode instead of the vital metal components of your outboard motor. These small but powerful devices prevent corrosion and electrolysis, ensuring your engine remains in top-notch condition.
Wondering when it's time to bid farewell to your old anodes? Look for these signs:
    Reduced Size or Mass
    Surface Pitting or Erosion
    Loss of Shape or Form
    Exposed Core or Metal
    Corrosion on Protected Components
    Visual Wear and Tear
    Key Takeaways:
Know where the anodes are located on your Yamaha outboard engine
Know the sign indicating that an anode replacement is necessary
Know how to remove and replace spent anodes

Any tips for changing anode on a motor with 30” shaft?

@surf2dz Shaft length doesn’t change the process for replacing anodes, so the steps should be the same for your 30” shaft motor. This video should still be helpful for you! Let me know if you have any other questions.
