Fun fact. This is actually part of a soundtrack to a video game called Last Day of June. The entire game is based around this song and Steven wrote the entire soundtrack for it
One of the most profound revelations I've had about Steven Wilson's music is how it serves as a bridge between the deeply personal and the universally human. Wilson's lyrics often delve into themes of loss, introspection, and the passage of time, resonating with listeners on a deeply intimate level. Yet, his intricate compositions and progressive rock influences elevate these personal stories into broader existential reflections. Listening to his albums, particularly "Hand. Cannot. Erase." and "The Raven That Refused to Sing," I find myself not just hearing but experiencing a journey through soundscapes that are both haunting and beautiful. His ability to blend melancholy with moments of sublime beauty creates a cathartic experience, allowing me to confront my own emotions and thoughts within the safe confines of his music. Wilson's meticulous production and multi-layered arrangements reveal new details with each listen, making his music a constant source of discovery and inspiration. It's this intricate craftsmanship combined with raw emotional honesty that makes Steven Wilson's music a timeless companion, offering solace, reflection, and an ever-evolving connection with the listener.
That Guthrie Govan solo was done in just ONE take in the studio. He sat down in the control room, plugged in and just played it while the others watched amazed. It couldn't get any more perfect than that. Lightning in a bottle there.
agreed... this is up there. Regret #9 is pretty staggering too. first take. but if we're talking guitar solos, I think my ATF is the solo right at the end of Lizard, by King Crimson. Fripp's solo chills my bones every time.
"This is like a soundtrack." Funny you should mention that. There was a small game released a few years back called Last Day of June which is based specifically on the story in this video, but is also scored generally by Steven Wilson's music. You can probably find it for cheap on Steam or GOG at this point, and won't take more than a couple of days to play through.
The problem with this awesome video was that a lot of people missed the opportunity to pay attention to one of the best guitar solos when watching the story.
Probably my favorite song discovery of the last several years. The video is amazing. But, I'm really glad I first heard the track without the video. Hard to concentrate on both at the same time. That guitar solo at the end is just sooooooo buttery. Mm Mm Mm!
Steven Wilson and Guthrie Govan...an absolute perfekt Duo for emotional Prog Rock Ballads. The content of the Videos Story Made me cry ,cause ITS so true ..everyday can be the Last day you See your Loving Friends and Family members ,.
Steven Wilson said that his first love was music but that if he couldn't be a musician he would be a film maker. In fact, Steven composed most of the Porcupine Tree album "Deadwing" as the soundtrack for a ghost story screen play he was working on, but the film was never made (but what an incredible album, it is my favorite from Porcupine Tree)
This song is based in a comic by Hajo Müller (no... it's not a true story) . He concieved the story behind this.. and then Jess Cope directed the music video (both art styles - in fact she's also responsible for the music videos for Routine, People Who Eat Darkness, The Raven That Refused To Sing and King Ghost - all by Steven Wilson - and also a video for Metallica) It's just a beautiful song.. The instrumental section is amazing... the softness of the arrangement is so captivating!! BTW - There's a new Porcupine Tree (steven wilson's band) out!! You should really check it out!!
Hey!! Love you guys!! Hope this message gets to you!!! HUGE, HUGE PORCUPINE TREE NEWS DROPPED YESTERDAY. BAND IS BACK! BRAND NEW ALBUM BEING FORMALLY RELEASED NEXT YEAR WITH A TOUR!!! BUT THE BRAND NEW SONG "HARRIDAN" DROPPED YESTERDAY. BLEW EVERYBODY AWAY! I LITERALLY CRIED. PHENEOMENAL!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO A REACTION TO THIS SONG. IT WILL GRAB YOU BY THE THROAT!! IT IS ABSOLUTELY KILLER. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY ARE BACK BUT THEY ARE!!!!!!!
By now this has become a real soundtrack. From the music piece a computer game, called "Last day of June" was made, which got it's own soundtrack album by Steven.
I think that he has some sort of resolution at the end. I certainly hope so. Great advice about complimenting people- I try to do that every day. I am trying to think nice things about myself, but depression and grief make that difficult. Keep well and keep those reactions coming - I really look forward to them.
Instant like ....The raven that refused to sing is the third one of this set of songs that deal with grief, loss, depression etc... Also animated. Beautifully tragic.
I feel like he’s mostly lost in the Music, and she’s mostly lost in the emotion of the story. Correct me if I Am wrong. Either way, a beautiful song and great reaction to it.
The entire album The Raven That Refused To Sing is an absolute masterpiece.
Every song of PT is a masterpiece.
@@VAGABOND070 Yeah but this isn't PT 😁👍
😭yes

This solo is right up there with any of the iconic Pink Floyd solos. I can't even believe this beauty exists!
High praise, indeed.
Agreed. And the end solo in Home Invasion Regret #9, is right up there with Gilmour's Comfortably Numb solo, in my opinion.

In my 61 years on this planet, I’ve not heard a better guitar solo.
Well I’ll hit 62 next month, and I agree.
Yeah this one gets me every time. He managed to pack a lot of feeling into this song.

Video Killed The Radio Star.....
Steven's work is pure gold. All of it.
Home Invasion / Regret #9 is another good SW one if you haven't already heard it.
So happy to witness your explanation of SW...as a decades long fan I am convinced he truly is a gift. Like living in an age with Mozart. Keep going!
Think Guthrie uses a fretless for the "synth"effect and lead break. Another stunning audio/visual journey.
In the conversation for one of the best solos of all time. IMHO
Guthrie Govan the most revered guitarist around today, masterful solo!!
@@HammerHed13 you know the best thing about it? He improvised it, it wasn't prepared, rather it was played on the spot!
Probably my favorite song discovery of the last several years. The video is amazing. But, I'm really glad I first heard the track without the video. Hard to concentrate on both at the same time. That guitar solo at the end is just sooooooo buttery. Mm Mm Mm!
Buttery is a great adjective!

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but the bassist is Nick Beggs who played bass in 80s glam band Kajagoogoo. He’s rather good.
Yeah and if you want to hear him shine, check out his chapman stick solo on a song called Staircase from Steven's recent album The Harmony Codex.
Instant like ....The raven that refused to sing is the third one of this set of songs that deal with grief, loss, depression etc... Also animated. Beautifully tragic.
Guthrie Govan is the greatest improviser alive.
These are done by Jess Cope - she is brilliant
