Thanks so much for watching! I hope you found this video on the best word count for children's books helpful. If you’re planning to write a children’s book, let me know! I can’t wait to cheer you on!
Thank you so SO much! This was very helpful and informative. It’s sad that our kids are reading less and that books for children have declined in word count, but I’m trying to understand the world they are living in with technology is not what we grew up with also. Very well explained. Great job.
Great point on the decreased attention span (kids and adults!). And I've seen this play out with my own daughter--classics that I loved that just didn't keep her attention because they were way too long/wordy. Thanks for the reminder!
I goofed with a story that was early-reader at the end and too complex at the beginning. My editor caught it, adjusted the words, and the text then read evenly. Your video reminds me to think about details. Appreciate all you do!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, NEW AUTHOR HERE AND JUST LOOKED INTO THIS VIDEO SO GLAD I DID MY WORD COUNT IS ABOUT 200 WORDS OVER FOR THE AGE RANGE, I'M AT THE FORMATTING STAGE, I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE EDITING PROCESS, THANKS AGAIN!!!!
Thank you for the video, even if what you talked about is quite saddening. Before, books were longer, more words were used which surely influenced quality of description and/or amount of action. I don't know any researches but my thought are that children might have been growing up with richer vocabulary and better imagination. Nowadays, we have fast food, fast fashion and fast books 😢
Love your videos. I haven't found self-published children's books of 24 pages, seems like 32 is the standard minimum. Are you aware of 24 page softcover self-published books?
Hi Ophra! 24 pages are the minimum paperbook page count, so as long as you have 24 pages, you are good to go. But if you would like to add more pages, don't forget that we usually add a copyright page, dedication page, title page, about the author page, etc. I so hope this helps, Ophra!
Hi Rich! How are you? Most books for young kids aren't actually read by themselves, but are read to them by their parents/ caregivers, so it wouldn't really change the length. The length isn't based on kids' ability to read, but on their attention span and level of understanding.
@@EeviJones do I have to cut it down ? 😭 I like it the way it is...I feel like it will take away from the story. I know a lot of writers go through this...but it is pretty hard.

for a picture book of 40 paged with large pictures and 3nlines of
suitable for 7+ age

A fantastic tutorial on the decreased attention span of modern kids and its effect on the size of books today. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Jeffrey!

I agree, it is quite sad. That being said, longer books, such as novels, chapter books, and now also graphic novels are very popular with older kids.
Excellent tutorial, Eevi -- thank you! Some very helpful guidance on the recommended word count and number of pages per child age group. 😊👍
Thank you so, so much, Bento! I'm so happy to hear this!
Love the ending LOL

This makes sense as the entire World is moving at a much faster pace compared to even 10 years ago.
Yes! I really feels that way!
What about books that are read by children's parents before children reach a comprehensive reading ability then they could read it themselves

Now I understand why there are so many kids that cannot read. This is pretty sad.
Creating my first early readers book and I am cringing that I am over 34 pages but under 2500 words
I know! Compared to older books, today's books seem so much shorter.
