Thanks so much for watching! I hope you found this video on writing rhyming childrens books helpful. Be sure to find me over on Instagram & TikTok, so we can connect there as well!
Eevi, I am in the process of writing my children's picture book. I am using a rhyming format and this video provides a lot of valuable advice and tips! Thank you for taking the time to create and share it!
Thanks for this video Eevi. I have been writing nonsense verse for decades and only recently realised that some of them would make wonderful children's books. I have three poems which are slowly being bludgeoned into appropriate shape, and making illustrations at the same time, too. Your rhyming and rhythm points are absolutely on-point, neatly reflecting my own experiences. I firmly advise: never accept an inferior rhyme, word, or phrase when a little rearrangement or rethinking might metamorphose a light rhyme into a masterpiece. Sorry, I went into lecture mode again.
Thank you for encouraging me to rhyme one day. No-for-now-but-not-no-forever. I read every book into a hand-held recorder then, play it back, and go to editing with a vengeance! :) As I move onto this new career, your reminders of line-breaks and synonyms were particularly valuable. Appreciate all you do!
Loved your tips. I run an animal hospital and recently wrote a children’s book about dogs and cats in rhyme. I have no idea if the lines are in meter, I just based it off of how the lines sound when read aloud and your video gave me confidence to move ahead with the project.
Hi Eevi. This is the BEST Rhyme tutorial! I love writing in rhyme. I'd love for you to read my stories for critique and review. Do you offer this service?
Wonderful, thank you!! Can you speak to punctuation in a children's picture book? Must there be a comma at the end of every line that doesn't already have another type of punctuation?
You're so welcome! Unless that line calls for a comma, we would not put one at the end of every line. We will still use regular punctuation rules, regardless of how the lines are displayed/ broken up on our page. I'll have some tips about punctuation in tomorrow's video as well. I so hope this helps!
I'm so happy to hear this! I so hope you will be able to see this comment right here. I went head and made quick video to show you how to get to the links I'm mentioning in my videos. www.loom.com/share/c90cc7e04c7b49f1bd9d0dca391b3349?sid=1bb69641-6efc-4fa2-99ac-c77fbca83d58
